Save parameters in a file with a predefined extension

Hello everyone!
I've create a VI which is saving parameters listed in a table. The saved file has *.zpw extension.
It's working perfectly (please see attached VI) but I want it to be more "professional".
I mean, I'd like to present to the user a friendlier interface ( "Tab Control" ) so that he shouldn't scroll down the table to enter the values of the parameters.
I've been thinking and trying many ideas but unsuccessfully.
I'd be grateful if somebody could give me some ideas
Best regards
Kabanga

• How to save as XML with some predefined extensions

hi All,
In my application a template has to be created which should contain field headers and their respective field types - example field header LEVEL and field type COMBO BOX. Purpose is - a table will be created based on the fields in the template. Now I want to save this template as XML file with some predefined extension (like .templ). Later in my application i will retreive the saved template and use it to create table.
How can i save the file as XML with some predefined extension. We are using Swing to create template. Please help me with sample programs to solve this problem.
awaiting for your mail
Thank you

In an other post I found my solution thanks to "Peggy" :
Save As… has returned with Mountain Lion. Hold down the Option/alt key while clicking on the File menu & there it is! It also has a default keyboard shortcut.
Thank you Peggy

I started to learn HTML, and I'm using text edit and everything is going fine, when I save the file with a .html extension and open it with safari I only view the code and not the webpage that was supposed to be created.

That is because you don't have a web server configured and running to serve the html page. In order to see the page in a browser you need to access it using a url similar to http://localhost/~yourUserName if you are serving the page from your user account.
Prior to Mountain Lion you could go into web sharing and turn on the web server. With Mountain Lion there is no option, other than using terminal, to turn on the web server. The web sharing menu item has been removed in Mountain Lion. Apache is still on your computer but it will take a little searching these forums or the Internet to find how to turn it on.
If you want a graphic user interface to turn on/off the Apache server you could download and install a server application like xampp, http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html. I use this and it works well.

• How do I import old FCP projects that have mysteriously changed to Linux Executable files? Is it as simple as renaming the files with the.fcp extension?

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish. I was able to grab everything, media, etc. to my macbook pro but all of the Final Cut Pro actual movies/projects have turned into "linux executable files" that FCP X won't import.
I tried googling this issue but didn't really see any good answers. Would it be as simple as renaming the files with the .fcp extension? I can't recall if my old version (really old) of FCP saves projects as .mov or .fcp files, but I'm assuming I'm not the only person this has happened to.
Thanks for your help!

I had some FCP projects on an old G3 tower that I finally want to finish.
What version of FCP was this? The project files can probably no longer be opened in the newer version of the OS. You could try adding the .fcp suffix, but I don't think it will help for this. Projects files are .fcp.
Regardless of the version, no legacy FCP projects will import into FCPX.
Media is a different matter. These are probably QuickTime .mov files. If these are appearing as Unix ececutables, they're probably not recoverable either.

• I want Firefox to give me the option to download a file with a .mm extension rather than opening it as if it were an xml file

I have created a web page that provides links to files with the .mm extension. These files are created by the Freemind application (http://freemind.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page). When I click one of these links, Firefox opens the file as if it were a text (xml) file. I have looked at the Applications page in Preferences, but there is no obvious way to add a new application and then specify that Firefox should "Always ask" what I want to do. Essentailly, how do I do that?

Hi jhayles,
Have you looked checked in ''Tools > Options > Applications'' to see if you have told Firefox to always save the file? You should take a look at the [[Options window - Applications panel]] Knowledge Base article for details.
If you set Firefox to always ask and it doesn't, you may want to check out the [[Preferences are not saved]] article.
Hopefully this helps!

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

• Is there any way to open a file with a .msi extension on my new mac?

I have Camtasia from the pc I was using. It has a .msi file extension for the installation file. Is there any way to open the Camtasia installation file with the .msi extension on my new Mac?
Thanks,

That's a Microsoft program which requires Windows. You could run on your Mac if you install Windows on it.
Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software. Purchase Windows 7 or Windows 8. Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows. Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusion and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7. VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows. The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris. It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc. There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization. The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. A more recent comparison of Parallels, VM Fusion, and Virtual Box is found at Virtualization Benchmarks- Parallels 10 vs. Fusion 7 vs. VirtualBox. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard and later. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

• Trying to get the Filetype of a file with a random extension. i.e., image.1

Hello all,
I am dealing with images with the .1 -.6 standard which is used by companies like Gladson imagery. I am given these files and I need to find out there FileTypes, which I also have heard can be called "MIME" types? If that is different I let me know please.
I tried to use the Files API Files (Java Platform SE 7 )
Specifically probeContentType, but I get "null" for the .1 images, while the .bmp image does give me "image/bmp" as the result.
I am thinking of reading the file into the program, then just outputting it into a file with a readable extension.
Or is there a better way to do this?
Thanks,
~KZ

.1-.6 means nothing, it's a file extension given by Gladson. Gladson > Our Services > Product Image Database but you seem to ignore this.
You say it means 'nothing' but your original question says it is a standard:
I am dealing with images with the .1 -.6 standard which is used by companies like Gladson imagery
I've never heard of any such '.1 -.6 standard' and can't find ANY reference on the web to any such standard.
So it is only appropriate to ask you what you are talking about. You didn't explain WHAT standard you are referring to, provide ANY information about that 'standard' or provide any link to documentation about that 'standard' so we can figure out what you are talking about.
I don't know why a lot of the people on this forum feel the need to tell people their questions aren't good enough, when the question is pretty simple.
They do that to let you know that you need to provide MORE information or a better explanation of what you are asking.
Just because you don't know part of the question, doesn't mean the question is invalid.
Reread my reply and you will see that it doesn't say the question is 'invalid'. It said
If you want help it is YOUR responsibility to provide the information anyone would need to help you. No one is going to go searching the web to try to find out what a '.1 -.6 standard' might be, assuming there even is such a thing.
You began your thread by referring to a 'standard' and I can find NO such standard anywhere. So there is no context for your question since it relates to a standard that doesn't appear to exist.
Especially when the part of the question, in this case the .1 fileExtention doesn't really have much to do with the question, which is why it was an example.
You are the one that first mentioned a 'standard'. If it doesn't 'have much to do with the question' then you are just confusing the issue by including it as a key part of your thread. If there IS such a standard then, being a standard, it would be documented and that documentation would likely explain the actual binary format of files that are created using that standard. That binary format would have information that could be used to identify the file type.
For example a PDF file uses a 'standard' file format. The format is documented by Adobe and if you examine a file you might find the first line looks like this:
%PDF-1.4
That 'signature' helps to identify the file as using the PDF file format.
But now you seem to be asking this totally different question:
Given graphic files with meaningless names and extensions (and thus of unknown type) how does one determine the actual FileTypes (BMP, GIF, etc), which I also have heard can be called "MIME" types?
Is that the question you are really asking?
If it is then there IS NO generic way to identify an arbitrary file format since each 'standard' format is different and will have different possible 'signature' characteristics. You would have to have code to test for EVERY possible 'signature'.
That is why if the standard you referenced actually existed it would help determine what the list of POSSIBLE file types might be. If you know that each file MUST BE a Gladson file type then the first step is to create a list of ALL possible file types that Gladson uses.
Then you can locate the documentation for each of those file types (e.g. BMP, GIF, etc) to determine how to create a 'parser' to check for those 'signatures'.

• Captivate 8 : the PDF export created a file with a PDF extension.. but it's actually a video. Shouldn't it export the slides as a proper PDF document ?

In Adobe Captivate, there is a "PDF export" checkbox available when you publish your project.
It checked the box, and the project pulication created a file with a PDF extension.. but it's actually a video. Shouldn't it export the slides as a proper PDF document ?

Thanks for the quick answer. I did not know about interactive PDFs..
I just found how to export as a Word document. I would have expected to find that option in "Publish" or "Export", not "Print".. Anyway, I now have what I needed

I also don't understand, but if you mean how to display only files with a certain extension in your JFileChooser then you should have a look at the JFileChooser API:

The introduction shows an example of how to do that.

Hi,
I need to save the pdf file with default name which generated by

this is the code i am trying to save by default

both the actions uses the file name "RWReportServlet" as default instead of using docName
Can any one help me please
Regards
Sakthivel.

That said, your code is not very efficient. You're storing the complete PDF file in memory. What if the PDF file is fairly large? And what if multiple users download multiple large PDF files simultaneously? Your server would run out of memory. Rather use InputStream instead of a raw byte[]. And preferably buffer it.
You should also be setting the content-length header by the way.

• Save listbox items to file with date in filename

Im trying to setup a small program to where when you save listbox items, it saves to a file with a specific name. All works fine, no problems. What I need to do is hen you click save, it saves the file with the specific name BUT with the date &
time added to the filename.
Example: filename-date-time.txt
Currently, Im only able to save as filename.txt
So when you save the list again, it just overwrites the file already there.
Here is what I have:
IO.Directory.CreateDirectory("C:\foldername")
Dim w As New IO.StreamWriter("C:\foldername\filename.txt")
Dim i As Integer
For i = 0 To ListBox1.Items.Count - 1
w.WriteLine(ListBox1.Items.Item(i))
Next
w.Close()
MsgBox("List has been saved to C:\foldername\filename.txt", MsgBoxStyle.OkOnly)
What do I need to add to this line: Dim w As New IO.StreamWriter("C:\foldername\filename.txt") So that it can save it with the date & time?

Dim w As New IO.StreamWriter("C:\foldername\filename " & Now.ToString(" MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ssf") & ".txt")

• How to save a Photoshop PDF file with fonts that can be detected in Acrobat?

We created a PDF file using Photoshop CS5, for the purpose of using it as a watermark on documents. We saved this file as Photoshop PDF file, but for some reason the fonts cannot be detected when the file is opened in Adobe Acrobat.
We need it to be recognized by Acrobat so that we can easily add the watermark to documents on a regular basis.
Right now, Acrobat cannot detect the fonts in this file -- even though it is a basic font like Arial -- so when we add the watermark to a document, the fonts in the watermark becomes very degraded in appearance.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated!

I've tried several settings when saving as a PDF, to try to produce a file with fonts that can be detected by Acrobat. I tried the presets listed in guide: Photoshop Help | Saving PDF files
But none have worked.
I cannot use PNG because it is not one of the formats that Acrobat allows for a watermark. And JPG doesn't work because I need transparency.

• Using Mac OS, Firefox 3.6 will not save nor open html files with spaces in the file name. Will version 4.0 do this?

I have hundreds of saved files with names that have spaces in them (like movie 10 41.html). I could not use Firefox 3.6 because it would not open these files for viewing and had to reinstall Firefox 3.5.8 which I have now. If I install Firefox 4.o, will I have the same problem? I use Mac OS 10.5

I have Firefox 3.6.6, and now that Firefox 4.0 is available, it crashes constantly. Sometimes less than 5 minutes after I open it. I have a Mac 10.4.11, so Firefox 4.0 isn't an option for me. When I asked Ff to check my plug-ins it said there was an error and to check back later. Twice.
Because I didn't have any (any) problems with my Ff before the upgrade became available, I am forced to question if Ff has done something to make the earlier version crash so you'll upgrade, but I can't afford to upgrade my Mac right now.
In the meantime, I do need a browser that works! I dislike Safari, Chrome is also not available on Mac 10.4.11, and Explorer is just plain not available on Mac.
Do you have any suggestions on how to fix my Firefox 3.6.6?
Ty
