Save PDF Tagging settings in FM11

Hi
I am trying to create "accessible" PDF for which I need to add tags in my FrameMaker document. However, I noticed that I need to create this tags list every time I save the FM book as a PDF. Is there a way I can save these tag settings? I have some 50+ tags and structuring it every time is a very time-consuming task.

  • Save PDF Output custom settings?

After tweaking almost every panel in the PDF output settings, I'd like to save those settings to reuse with other PDF contact sheets I'll be creating in the future. How do I do that? As soon as I tweak a setting, the Preset changes to Custom, and as soon as I select a different preset, the entire Custom entry is deleted from the dropdown menu.

While the Output Module of Bridge is a good idea it is not "ready for prime time" in either of the two functional areas.
I guess that's why they left the old-style methods available on the installation disk.

  • How do I save PDF files by default to the folder of the source file?

How do I save PDF files by default to the folder of the source file with Acrobat 9.0.0 Standard?

I am not seeing that behaviour. If I right-click a link to a .pdf file, I get the file saved with the original filename.
Maybe one of the settings in about:config controls that?
pdfjs.previousHandler.preferredAction is a setting that has a value of 4 with my setup. I have no idea what that means, and I could not find any explanation anywhere. You could try using different numbers for that value and see if any make any difference. Why has nobody bothered to explain that setting anywhere?

  • Avoiding the 'Save PDF File As' dialog when printing to the adobe PDF printer from a service

    Hello, can someone please help.
I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro installed.
I have an in house application which (among many other things) effectively monitors a directory and prints the file to the default printer. It works fine when run as an application.
I have set the defaults on the Adobe PDF printer to put the output PDF file into a directory and not to open it so it works silently without prompts.
When I run my application as a service, it brings up the 'Save PDF File As' dialog and I would like to avoid this. My impression is that if I put the right registry key in then it will work.
I do not want to do any scripting if I can avoid it.
Thanks for all constructive help given.

Thank for your help Bill, but changing settings in the distiller did not seem to work. As my application prints directly to the default application without using anything specific to Acrobat, I was hoping there was a simple way forward. A colleague suggested copying registry entries from the account I logged on as to the S-1-5-18 entry, then rebooting. This had no effect as the prompt still comes up.
Aandi, I don't have the Acrobat SDK or any experience of it.
Also I'm not sure where any code/script would sit since the application is stable and so I would rather not change it.
If it amounts to a few lines of javascript sitting outside the application then that would be of interest.

  • Save pdf to folder in JPEG / save aperture book to JPEG

    Hello guys,
basically I want to save my created photo book in Aperture in the best possible quality.
I have read the FAQ on apertureexpert.com about "save pdf to folder in JPEG" and have also downloaded the script that was posted their but it did not work as expected.
    http://www.apertureexpert.com/forum-user/post/1306850
The problem is that I can't really change any settings about the script (like change dpi to 300 like in the video below). Opening it in Automator does not bring the hoped features.
Basically I want to do exactly what is done in this video:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VJ7ywI5N9o8
I might want to export the photos in TIFF too one day!
I am desperately trying to export my photo book in the best possible quality! I have spend the whole day trying to solve this problem without finding anything on google!
Would there be any possibilities to just download the complete "Save pdf to folder in TIFF" and "Save pdf to folder in JPEG" script somewhere? That would would be the optimal solution, a download link or simply an upload from someone how as the scripts that originally ware pre-installed on a mac. You can check if you have these under "Macintosh HD/Library/Pdf Services".
Thanks a lot for your help! I would really appreciate it!
    Best,
    Gordon

It actually goes thru the motions and appears to be working, but ultimately the pages are not actually created or saved anywhere. I have tried over and over, numerous things, but in the end there are no actual pages created... its weird. I specify exactly where to save the pages, and when its done, there is nothing there....
Also, when I run the Play button on the "Save PDF to folder as JPEG" in automator, it encounters an error at the "Move Finder Items", the step where it would actually place or save the JPEGs to that location.... I can not seem to figure out what went wrong, as it did work before and I don't know what I could have done to cause an error...

  • Adobe Reader X/10 - continued crash problems trying to save PDFs

    Dear all,
I wonder if anyone can help me.... I have been having ongoing problems when trying to save PDF documents online while using the downloaded Adobe Reader 10 or X version. It always crashes/freezers when I press the 'save' button in the 'save as' dialogue box. I have to use end program and start all over again.
I use Windows XP (Professional, Service Pack 3) and both Mozilla Firefox 4.0.1 and IE 8 web browsers. I have followed the links suggested to prevent in future after the problem has been reported - I have unstalled and reinstalled Reader a few times now, as well as checked that I have been using the most up to date version of Reader 10 or X. Then reopened everything again thinking it's solved and then crash (ARGH!). Has anyone else had similar issues?
This is most frustrating to say the least, not withstanding the time delays affecting work outputs when the system crashes on the 'save as' dialogue box (after pressing save). I have lost faith in Adobe now ... I used to consider the free download of Reader a great asset, now it is a true annoyance and may or may not work entirely.
Any help or advice would be great, even alternative PDF software.
    Many thanks in advance
    Ruth

The response from 370H55V is correct in theory and in actual fact was very close to the solution, but the response was more cryptic than helpful. I first encountered this yesterday after upgrading users on a Terminal Server from Reader v8 to v9. My first instinct was to upgrade to v10, which I did, but the problem still existed, so I rolled back to v8 and the issue was resolved. Unfortunately however this was not a solution and it was a requirement that we upgraded to at least v9. The error was as described that in IE 8 when a PDF file was opened inside the browser(or embedded as some might say), and you press SAVE (or even sometimes print) within the adobe reader toolbar, IE would flicker and crash on the page and then recover the page, saying this page has been recovered, but no saving would happen. This would happen if protection was turned off in Adobe Reader, and if it was on (default), then pressing SAVE would just make IE freeze as previously reported.
So to understand what was happening, I ran FILEMON and REGMON by SYSINTERNALS. Regmon showed nothing of significance. Filemon showed a lot more. It was getting an access denied error on c:\windows\system32\shell32.dll. There was no reason for this however because the permissions on this file allow all users to read and execute. But then I remembered what shell32.dll does. It brings up the SAVE AS dialog box that allows you select the path of where to save the file – essentially this is calling the shell of explorer.exe.
So this is actually the cause of the crash. When Adobe Reader makes the call to the SAVE AS dialog box – CRASH!!!!! Why???
Well it’s quite simple. The default location that the SAVE AS dialog box starts in is MY Documents and this is where to start looking for the source of the error. To find out were “my documents” is for your session, open REGEDIT and go to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders
Look for the key: PERSONAL and in it is a REG_SZ containing the path to “my documents” for the current user. This is generally something like C:\documents and settings\<username>\My Documents on Windows XP/2003 and something like C:\Users\<username>\Documents on Win7/ 2008.
Now in our case the setting for this key was U:\ which was a mapped network drive to the path: \\server\username\mydocs. U:\ did exist and the user had full permission to it. So I changed the path on the personal key to C:\documents and settings\<username>\My Documents – the default setting. I went back to IE, opened a PDF document from a website, viewed the file and then pressed SAVE on the adobe toolbar. BINGO BABY!!!! Worked perfectly.
But again this was not a solution because in a network, you need your users to have their “my documents” in their own home drive, which is generally located on a remote share on a server. So I put the PERSONAL setting in the registry back to U:\ and crash back to square one. I then put the path of the U:\ in the key instead of just U: drive, so PERSONAL now had a REG_SZ value of \\server\username\mydocs. Went out to IE again, launched a PDF, pressed SAVE. BINGO BABY!! It worked. So clearly this was a UNC Path resolution issue or something similar, but why did it only happen from v9 of Adobe Reader and whose fault is it – Microsoft or Adobe. Well I suspect both. I suspect that Adobe maybe making a weak Shell call in their code which doesn’t resolve the path properly, and a possible bug in the MS Shell call may be adding to this issue.
Anyway, I did some further testing for some fun. I took permissions away from the user to their “My documents” folder and was also able to replicate the same crash. I set the PERSONAL registry key to a folder that didn’t exist and same crash. So basically if the SAVE AS shell call can’t resolve or access the path as set in the PERSONAL key the you will get this crash.
The way I solved it for the network users, was to set the registry key for PERSONAL to \\server\username\mydocs via Group Policy, also a logon script may also work. Additionally you could use Folder Redirection in Group Policy to set the path for MY Documents on a per user basis. This also was tested and work.
For non-network users check the PERSONAL key and get the path and then find that path and check permissions etc. Replace it with the default location or even point it to a path that you know exists and has full access.
As a final tip, also look at the registry Key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
And find the PERSONAL path. It will be something like %USERPROFILE%\my documents in XP/2003 and %USERPROFILE%\Documents in Win7/2008. This is the default location and if the PERSONAL KEY does not exist in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders then windows reverts back to the User Shell Folders key to get the path. It is a good idea to check that path in this area as well.
    Hope this helps.

  • Can't save pdf from a web site - HELP!

I can't seem to save pdf files from a brokerage account.  I have Reader 9, and one one PC, there is no "save icon" on the tool bar, and no "wording tool bar" -ie, no headong of:  File - Edit - View, etc.  On the other , there is no edit portion of the tool bar.
On the one PC that displays the picture of the floppy disc - the "save icon"-  when I click on it, nothing happens.  I think i have a problem with the security settings, but can't figure it out.  the financial advisor company can save it just fine, so i think the problem is in my PCs.
There is a security section that says the contents of the pdf can be copied, butdoesn't work  not in the file copy mode.  (These are not "fill out the form" pdfs, just regular files posted to a web site to allow viewing, downloading, printing, etc.  i could print, but want to save electronically instead.
    Any ideas?

I have also had this problem with some different web sites - you mention that possibly  it is a security issue so I added the web site I was having this problem with to my "Trusted Sites" list and re-tried saving the PDF and it worked!  Don't know if this will solve your problem, but it did work for me (still don't understand why some sites work and others require an entry in the "Trusted Sites" list.   I'm running Windows 7 (32 bit) and my Adobe version is 9.4.2 and I'm using Internet Explorer 8.  Hope this solution works for you.

  • Save PDF to JPEG Options

Under the Print menu, for the Safve PDF to JPEG option, is there an option to save to a high quality JPEG?

The pixel size of the jpeg will depend on the paper size you selected - a larger paper size will give a larger pixel size of the resulting jpeg, but I don't think there is a quality slider anywhere.  When I export an image version with a jpeg original from the print dialog, the file size does not change much and I see no difference in quality, so I assume the quality will be high by default.
I like to use this export settings:
Print > Pdf > Save PDF to Aperture
and in the "Import" panel select "Jpeg".
For example: exporting a file with the paper size set to A4, will result in a jpeg with a pixelsize 2338 × 1652 (3,9 MP), exporting to a custom size 40x60 cm gives a jpeg with 3150 × 4725 (14,9 MP).

  • Why does Illustrator CS4 save pdfs with clipping paths and make rasters of gradient areas

I am on a IMAC and upgraded to 10.6.8 Jan 2014. I am using CS4 Illustrator to create with. When i save my work as a pdf then reopen the pdf in Ill to make changes, the whole page has:
A.) Multiple clipping paths around it
B.) Most text has now become outlined. Not editable anymore.
C.) Gradient areas have multiple clipping paths of the single gradient area
D.) The gradient areas now become rasterized.
This is very frustrating as now all of my marketing files, some 300+, are worthless. I don't know where to look anymore to find the problem.
    Please help.
    Thank you very much

    John,
I have the presets as you have shown. I had been editing the supplied items as you suggested. Then figured i should ask the questions of those who are better than I.
But still a bit confused as to why the new save places clipping paths around the document.
Thank you John and Monika for your help.

I do a save as "pdf" in the format pull down tab. I save to a folder on the hard drive. Where is the "Illustrator editability" check box? I presumed it is in Acrobat some where
but i seem to be lost.
It is in Illustrator's Save Adobe PDF dialog, which pops up before the saved file is written.

Sorry i didn't mention this, but this seems to have occurred when using images and text from provided pdfs.
That's a critical fact. If you didn't do the original save, the above is moot, and it's too late to exercise any control over the save process. Someone else failed to save for editability. The only thing you can do is clean up/repair the content, (release clipping masks, rebuild rasterized elements, expand objects, etc.), and save correctly as AI. Then, if necessary, re-save as PDF with the correct settings.

  • PDF Optimizer Settings

    Hi Group!
    Hope some one can help!
I received a file from one of our printers with customized settings to the PDF Optimizer window under the Advanced menu in Acrobat 8 for Mac.
I don't know where, for the life of me, to put this file so that when I open a PDF in Acrobat and select Advanced/PDF Optimizer this file with all of it's customized settings appears in the Settings list so that all I have to do is choose it.
I tried asking the person who created this file, but he was just recently laid off.
    Thanks in advance!

You folks are confusing PDF presets/settings files with what Marc is asking about.
Read his description again: He's talking about the settings you set WITHIN THE PDF OPTIMIZER DIALOG. You have the option to save settings (e.g., creating Acrobat 4 compatibility) when optimizing files. It just doesn't tell you where the settings file gets saved.
It depends on which version of Acrobat. For Acrobat 8, it's in this path on the Mac:
Users/[yourname]/Library/Acrobat User Data/8.0/PDF Optimizer. Files saved in this location DO have the ".optimize" extension.
But it's moved with Acrobat 9 Pro:
    Users/[yourname]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat/9.0 or 9.0_x86/PDF Optimizer.
9.0 is if you have a PPC Mac, 9.0_x86 is if you have an Intel Mac.

  • Save Layer Visibility Settings

So, I have an Illustrator CS5 file with 30 different layers of artwork that I've been using to create PDF city maps.  Is there a way that I can save layer visibility settings for each map? i.e. For one map, I want these 8 layers to be visible, for another, I want 6 other layers to be visible (and so on).
I'm also using sublayers but I'm just wondering if there's a script or something that will remember certain layer visibility settings. Artboards?
    Thanks

You might try using View>New View. It will entail going through and setting each map as you would like by turning on and off the layers you want and then save that view with a distinctive name. Then you can use the saved views to act as Layer Comps.

  • 7.0.4 won't save PDF

This is clearly a local problem as I can't reproduce it on a nearby iMac operating off the same network/OS version. In short, every attempt to Save As or Export a PDF when displayed in a Safari window produces a zero K file without any warnings. If at the same site and same file I choose Develop>Open Page With>Firefox 29.0.1, I can download the PDF just fine. Note this is only a problem with downloading PDF files thru an embeded link. Chosing File> Export as PDF works fine on any non-PDF page. I also can't find anyway to get a PDF link to do anything but open in Safari. Again a change in behavior. I've examined Safari's preferences where the only mention of downloading is where to put it. I also haven't changed any settings. I don't have the current Adobe Reader set to render web pages though I do have Acrobat X 10.1.10. Again it's not called by Safari
I installed Mavericks late but did not have this problem before the 10.9.3 update. I suspect some sort of preference/setup screw up but am uncertain where to go. Perhaps a Safari>Reset Safari is in order?
    Thanks for any insight,
    Robert
2010 Mac Pro, dual quad 2.4GHz, max RAM

Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
    Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
    Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
    and check the box marked
    Allow Plug-ins
    Then click
    Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
    Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
    Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
    Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari.
