Save/Print to PDF...Definitive Answer?

Hi,
Questions surrounding this have come up a few times, but in searching I haven't any real answers. Very simple: Just want to be able to create a PDF as part of a workflow (and not only from the Print dialog). Is installing a separate PDF software printer the only way? How can we access the way it is done for the other PDF workflows in the Print dialog? I've opened them, and the step where the PDF is actually created appears to be missing from all! How is it this simple, key functionality is not here?

Depends on what application you want to do this for. For some applications there are third-party action downloads available that can allow you to, for example, export InDesign files to a specified folder in PDF.

Save/Print to PDF

I have iPhoto 08 on Mac OSX, and I am trying to save/print an iPhoto Book into a PDF. When I go to File|Print I do not see the PDF function there. Nor do I see an option with Save As.
If I open up a file in Pages 08, I can go to File|Print and I DO have the PDF option there.
Any reason it is not there in iPhoto?

Long delay when trying to save print as PDF

For some reason, there is a long delay, usually up to five minutes, before the system will allow me to save a print as a PDF. I ran disk utility and no issues arose. Anyone know why this is happening?

Make sure there is enough free space on the startup disk.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

How to save as a PDF on answer summary report??

I cannot save summary report as a PDF file. There is a botton which is into convertion PDF, but it does not work and I cannnot push the botton!

Did you try the things I mentioned? Refresh the browser, restart the browser and use another web browser? You should also try clearing the cache of the browser.
This type of thing is difficult to diagnose remotely since it is on your system and not others, usually is fixed by one of the above steps.
I am assuming "11.9.900.152" was the Flash player version, which version of IE are you using?

Print to PDF only saves to the desktop

When I try to "Print to PDF" it gives be the dialogue box to tell the program where to save the file. I can pick any location I wish but when I click save; the file is not there...unless I tell it to save to the desktop. I have tried adjusting the properties but nothing I can find will allow it to save the file anywhere but the desktop. This only started happening after installing one of the latest Adobe software upgrades. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It's incredibly inconvenient to save everything to my desktop, then go move the file where it's supposed to go later.

I have just tried Print to PDF from Word 2010 (on Windows 7 with Acrobat XI), and I had no problem whatsoever to place the result into my Documents folder.
Could it be a permission problem on your target folders?
P.S. does Save as PDF have the same problem?

I can't print multiple pages from a website using the site's print button or 'file - print' and if I try to save as a PDF, it still only saves the first page and then cuts off.

I'm using Mac OS X 10.5.8 and Firefox version 3.6.8. When I'm on a website and try to print the info on the site, whether I use the site's own 'print' option, or I go to the Firefox toolbar and try to use 'File->Print', only 1 page prints out - it just cuts off mid-page. If I try to save as a PDF instead, the same thing happens in exactly the same spot - it saves as a 1-page PDF and cuts off in the middle of the page. I have the same problem... not being able to print website 'Print' pages. I have read carefully the above link and have followed the reset directions in about:config, but I still cannot print in Firefox. Both Google Chrome and IE work perfectly every time. I have verified that the correct printer is selected and that the margins are in order (0.5 all around happen to be what mine are set for). I have resorted to use the Firefox Add On "View this Page in IE" whenever I need to print something. Works like a charm, but come on... it should work in Firefox too! I know there is some setting or something, but the Problems_printing_web_pages link had nothing there that worked for me.

How can a user View/Save/Print Embedded Form on Webpage to PDF?

Currently FormsCentral does not support to View/Save/Print Embedded Form from the Webpage to PDF. If you are the form author, you can save/print the form to PDF in FormsCentral, and the PDF forms can be viewed in Acrobat or Reader.Or if you like, you can save/print the entire web page to PDF using the browser, but the form could not be submitted then. I need to able to print a pdf that is locked. It has fields to fill in but then to save a copy I need to "print" to PDF not save as a pdf because that is not an option with the document. Is there a way to do this?

Sorry I thought was just a one off, it would be no use for large volumes.
Do you not have this avaiable in the print menu in Preview with these documents?
I have also found a link on the Adobe web site that discusses that this facilty is enabled by the creater of the PDF.

If you do a web search there are various claims on how to save a protected PDF, I have'nt a way to test the proceedures. I would want a copy of any forms that I sent off, not sure why they protect them in this way, there must be a reason.

How to save edit settings under preferrences to use when creating or printing a PDF from word 2003 Windows PC 8.1

I have tried to save my PDF settings after editing them, but when I go to "Print" to PDF and check the settings I keep getting Standard default settings.
There is no Adobe PDF listed as a file heading to change conversion settings on my Word screen.
I have tried to create a PDF by open file through the Adobe application and also by trying to print through the Word application with document open and using Adobe PDF as the printer driver.I have changed or edited the settings but they do not appear as an option to select, just the standard default settings.
I have been able to save my setting as a Adobe PDF job options, but can't access them or use them when it comes time to convert to PDF.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I have apprached it 3 different ways:
- by opening acrobat and going to preferrences, clining on convert to PDf
- Microsoft Word, then changes each section of the edit settings, ie
general, fonts, images, etc make the cahneges then hit OK, at this point I
get a save as option rather than a save. It saves my changes as a PDF, but I
am not able to access it when I go to make the PDF.
- I also have tried to print PDF from Word and got to properties to make
the changs with the same results as above.
- Then I tried yur suggestion and went to the printer in the control panel
and had the same results.
I am using mircosoft word 2003 which has been compatable with my windows 8.1
I think the problem may be I am using a "trial" version of Adobe Acrotbat DC
2105 version. It must not belettingme save the setting changes.But this
shouldnot be if they want me to really experience the full effects of the
program.

"Save to Adobe PDF" missing in Mac print dialog

I've just upgraded to a new machine, and the "Save to Adobe PDF" option is missing from the PDF drop-down menu in the print dialogue. I'm running Mac OS 10.8.3 and CS 6. I believe that Acrobat X is supposed to automatically install this option into the main print dialog; what can I do to get it installed if it got left out of the initial CS6 installaion?

OK thank you. I feel like I'm still not quite getting my question across. I don't think that PDF Maker is what I was using last week before I got a new machine; wasn't that the thing that showed up in the upper portion of the Print dialog, in amongst your physical printers? That is not what I was using. I was using the Save to Adobe PDF.app (an Automator app) that stays in the PDF Services folder in the Library. You access it via the PDF button in the bottom left of the Print dialog. This was using Acrobat 9 and OS 10.6.
Your description above makes it sound like when I go to that button I would get a contextual menu that lets me choose the quality of the PDF. I don't have that choice. This is the contextual menu I get under PDF in the Print dialog:
I used to have an additional entry there in the middle section called Save to Adobe PDF. That brought up a dialog with a drop down menu that showed all of the preset settings I have made for PDF creation, and I could choose my quality there, choose a location, and save. I had full control over all the settings. I just need a choice that brings up that dialog, and Save as PDF doesn't do it (it just uses the native OS PDF generator).
The second method does not work on my machine either. If I try to drag a Word doc into Acrobat it tells me it is not a supported file type, and says "To create an Adobe PDF document, go to the source application. Then print the document to Adobe PDF." this indicates to me that somewhere I should still have the ability to choose Adobe PDF rather than Mac OS PDF.
I can save to PostScript and drop the file onto Distiller -- as long as the Distiller settings are set correctly already, because it starts creating the PDF immediately with no dialog in between to make choices. I can live with that, but I would rather have my Automator workflow back to do it in one step. (sadly I don't know enough about Automator right now to easily do this myself, but maybe this is a good chance to learn.)
I know that I have seen this workflow mentioned as something that is installed along with Acrobat X but maybe people are mistaken about that and it was just left over from a previous install. I know for sure that the workflow that was working on the old machines was outdated; it was 32-bit and can't even be opened in the current version of Automator. So the old one clearly won't work any more. For now I'm going to set up a Distill folder on my desktop with the settings I use most often, and direct my PS files there.

Can't Print a PDF... Getting a "Save As" screen

This happened suddenly this morning. I printed a PDF and I received an email and downloaded a PDF from a customer and that is when it started. I went back to old PDF files I already have and I was unable to print them as well. If i proceed and "save as" then try to print nothing happens. I tested other documents like word & excel files and they print. I am using Windows 7 and I started the morning with Reader 10 then I downloaded 11 which did not make a difference. I also tried the print as image and nothing.

Thank you, that worked but, here is the weird part. The problem started this morning after I printed a pdf and went to print another. I printed two other file formats without issue so I didn't think it was in my driver. Bizarre stuff but thanks again for your help.

Cannot Save or Print Embedded PDFs From IE9

I have a machine that is having difficulty saving or printing embedded PDF’s from web pages. Embedded meaning that the PDF is displayed in a reader window, within a web page. I am able to view the PDF without any problem however if I try and click the Save button, nothing happens. If I try to print the PDF, the browser crashes.
This is a Windows 7 32-bit machine with IE 9 installed. I am also using Acrobat Pro 10.1.2. I have tried repairing Acrobat without any success, as well as uninstalling/reinstalling without any success. I am able to open PDF documents stored locally as files without any problem, and I am also able to open PDF documents from other websites that are simply links without any problem. I have tried disabling the Display PDF is Browser setting, but that only produces a red X in the placeholder for the embedded PDF. I get the same results if I log into this computer as another user. I have other computers with identical software installed that are working just fine without a problem.
Anyone else having problems saving embedded PDF documents from websites? I am stumped as to why this happens or how to fix it.

I am having a similar issue only with ADP pay statements that are embedded. I have tried to uninstall, reinstall, installed Adobe XI, installed an older version. When we click print first the reader crashes and then IE9 crashes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Printing a pdf opens "save as" instead.

I have never had this happen, but whenever I attempt to print a pdf, it opens a "save as" box instead. So I've saved the pdf to my desktop, but after it's opened again I select print and the same "save as" box pops up again. The ONLY way I've been able to print is by right-clicking the pdf file from my desktop. Only then does it actually print.
I'm using Adobe X Reader (version 10.1.7). Why doesn't it allow me to print a pdf when the app is open?

Thank you SO much! I simply couldn't figure it out, even when scanning my print options. I also may have inadvertently selected "print to file" at some point? It's such a simple fix that I almost feel silly that I missed it.
