Save Problem With GIF

Ever since I updated to Windows 7 I have had a problem saving in gif format. It no longer keeps the cristal clear pixels it used to. For instance when I save the "Exact" box is grayed out under "Palette".
Would anyone have any idea's how to fix this? I use .gif pretty regularly, specially for animations but doesn't allow me to with the destorted pixels.
Thanks in advanced!

Maybe it "worked fine" because the image was different and had less colours.
From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GIF:
The Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) is a bitmap image format that was introduced by CompuServe in 1987 and has since come into widespread usage on the World Wide Web due to its wide support and portability.
The format supports up to 8 bits per pixel, allowing a single image to reference a palette of up to 256 distinct colors chosen from the 24-bit RGB color space. It also supports animations and allows a separate palette of 256 colors for each frame. The color limitation makes the GIF format unsuitable for reproducing color photographs and other images with continuous color, but it is well-suited for simpler images such as graphics or logos with solid areas of color.

  • Problem with Gif image

    Having a problem with gif image not showing up. It will show up in netscape6.2, but not in IE 5.0. Both are using the java 1.4 plugin. They are basic buttons (zoom in, zoom out, etc) and they actions work, just the icons aren't showing. Any help would be great! Below is a snip of code:
    JPanel toolBarsPanel = new JPanel();
    javax.swing.JToolBar toolbar = new javax.swing.JToolBar();
    JButton zoomin = new JButton(new ImageIcon("tut/zoomin.gif"));
    JButton fullext = new JButton(new ImageIcon("tut/fullextent.gif"));
    JButton identify = new JButton(new ImageIcon("tut/identify.gif"));
    JButton btn = new JButton(new ImageIcon("tut/addtheme.gif"));
    toolbar.add(zoomin);
    toolbar.add(fullext);
    toolbar.add(identify);
    toolbar.add(btn);
    add(toolbar, BorderLayout.NORTH);
    Thanks again for any help!

    I used to do a lot of work in this sort of thing. After a while we were able to convince our bosses to use generated HTML (JSPs, etc.), so the problem moved to porting JavaScript to different platforms! (Platforms in this context means the different browser/OS combinations, etc.).
    The only two things I can recommend are:
    - complete control over you code. You will have to fix it! (Tried you apps on a Mac yet?)
    - assume a minimal install. Don't assume users are going to have any fancy tools installed on their PC, unless you are developing an Intranet app, where you know the spec of the machines that are going to be using it.
    As regarding getting IE to use a relative address, I don't think you are going to have any luck their, I'm afraid! (Although I am curious. It has been some time, but I though it did use relative addresses. Are you absolutely sure about this, did you check this out with System.outs and that?

  • Problem with Gif Files

    Hi
    Is there away I can preview my animated gifs in Adobe Bridge CS3? This worked in CS2 but doesn't now I have upgraded.
    All my animated gifs show as gif image... is this correct?
    Bridge will preview other media files but not the gifs I would like it too.
    Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

    And I sincerely hope you're not talking about documents across a network. :(
    This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
    If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
    in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
    Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
    CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
    Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
    Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
    not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
    If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
    When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Problem with .gif frames not disappearing

    Hi-
    I'm pretty new to photoshop. Lately I've been messing around with editing and gifs and have been sporadic success achieving what I set out to do. I'm looking for help with a fairly specific problem that seems to pop up again and again. The problem is that when I attempt to make gifs. with a transparent background, the gif frames do not disappear properly once the file is moved out of photoshop.
    For example: I came across the following .gif yesterday and decided that I want to try to edit for a surreal effect.
    http://imgur.com/NJlpA.gif (I hope that link works)
    I wanted to cut out the beginning of the animation where the man is on the motorcycle and make it so that the man just rolls back and forth on the ground (weird I know).
    I successfully deleted the frames that I no longer wanted and duplicated the frames of animation that I wanted to play again so that the image would loop seamlessly. I then went through frame by frame, and corresponding layer by layer, to remove the white background. I used the quickwand tool. It took a long time but the gif was playing in photoshop as I wanted i to, a man writhing back and forth on the ground for no apparent reason. Siiiiiiick.
    So I did the whole save for web and devices thing, saved it as a .gif and then I put it on the interwebs and it turned out I had created this monstrosity:
    http://imgur.com/60CHc.gif
    Please, please, please, someone tell what I'm doing wrong. I feel like I've done the exact same proceedure to other gifs and have had them turn out perfectly. What am I missing???  Please note that the problem isn't that I accidentally made layers active for frames I didn't want them active for. I checked.
    Okay, thanks in advance to anyone who might be able to offer some advice.
    Sean

    Hello, and thanks for the timely response-
    Unfortunately, I only had a save of the "finished" version of the gif which now includes the unwanted frames. However, I went back and followed the same process, made a shorter version of the gif (which suffers from the same problem), and took a screenshot of that.
    http://imgur.com/8e8g1.png
    Also included is the preview screen which shows some of the settings that were in use (could be helpful?).
    http://imgur.com/8e8g1&bOThel
    And, finally, the shorter, still defective, gif.

    Thanks,

  • Save Problem With Premiere Pro

    I have been having a problem when saving my project to a new place and I wanted to make sure that I will be okay simply saving it to my desktop. I started the project on a windows computer and then have been working on a mac. My files come from an external hard drive since there is about 60GB of film I am working with. My project is currently saved on my desktop, but I would like a copy on my hard drive just in case it fails or I need it on there for whatever reason. When I go to save, an error message pops up. It appears that the only place I can save is to my desktop and i want to make sure that this will not be an issue when I go to export the files into the final movie format. Any help is appreciated as I do not want to lose all my work! Thanks.

    And if you are working on two macs, when working from the other mac save that file to your local hard drive, then creative cloud will automatically save that file to creative cloud... when you switch mac you will have the updated file in creative cloud! Open the file and when you have finished, save as to your local hard drive, and creative cloud will then again automatically save it to creative cloud! I think the easiest way to look at the cloud is seeing it as a back up so every file you save to your hard drive will be automatically backed up to creative cloud.

  • Problem with GIF

    hi
    i've found a nice solution for a Full-Screen Loading Screen
    http://andrewpeace.com/loading-screen-full-screen.html
    the main code after <body> is the following
    <div id="loading" class="loading-invisible"'>
    <p><img src="#APP_IMAGES#loading.gif" alt="Loading..." /></p>
    </div'>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    document.getElementById("loading").className = "loading-visible";
    var hideDiv = function(){document.getElementById("loading").className = "loading-invisible";};
    var oldLoad = window.onload;
    var newLoad = oldLoad ? function(){hideDiv.call(this);oldLoad.call(this);} : hideDiv;
    window.onload = newLoad;
    </script>
    it is working, but the image ist not animated
    can someone help me out?

    Does FCP warn that you are dropping frames? Is that warning turned off? Have you tried exporting the sequence to see if the problem persists? That is strange that the newly exported animations still won't work. What format are you exporting them to?

  • Problem with gifs

    Animated gifs don't appear correctly.
    I haven't resize them or place them above other images

    Try:
    URL url=myApplet.class.getClassLoader().getResource("myPic.jpg");
    Where myApplet.class is the name of your applet. This will give you the correct path to the image file.

    If you use LiveCycle to build your process, you can use Digital Signatures ES2 sign the PDF on the server and route it on to other steps in your process.

  • Problems with "save for web" app low quality messed up images

    Please help I have never had a problem with the "save for web" application before (over three years) I am currently running A.I. cs3 on windows vista. in the past whenever I save anything this way the images were always clean. as of yesterday everything I try to save through the save for web app the images are very low quality all the vector has jagged edges, it is very low rez looking and the file sizes are very small, half the size they normaly would be. What did I do to change the settings or better yet how can I get it back to the way it was.

    Thank you for your help I moved the folder but it still did not fix this problem. it is also not just the jpg option under the save for web app but all the setting ie. gif, png, ect. ect. Also the the files sizes are much less, example I exported a design as a jpg with the quality setting about 6 the file size was 374kb when I exported the same design through the save for web app the file size was only 45 kb on the quilty setting of 100. further more in the preview screen of "save for web" the original images as well as the optimized both look messed up. The "save for web" app has always worked for me in the past never a problem and I use this app alot so it is very important.

  • Possible Problem with Save for Web and Devices?

    II've come here to the forum for some insight on why a gif file created by save for web and devices command is not showing up as an image in an uploading dialog box for my website.  I'm buildiing my website with word press and a custom freelancer theme.  I've created a customized header with Illustrator and have been saving the file with the save for web and devices command.  Once I have my gif file, I go to my theme uploader and try to upload the gif image and place it on my homepage.  I've not had any problems with doing this until yesterday, when I tried to upload an updated file.  What usually happens is that the thumbnail image shows up in the dialog box, I select my options, and click insert.  But what's started happening yesterday is that the thumbnail does not show up, unless I click on edit image.  This makes no difference, as when I click insert and go to my homepage and refresh it, the header doesn't show up.  I've tried working with the developer of the theme to resolve this problem and so far we've not found a solution.  I've tried to upload the header with different file types: jpg, png, tiff, but they don't work.  I thought I'd come here to see if anyone might have some suggestions.  The problem may not be with Illustrator's save for web and devices, but I thought I'd give this forum a shot.  Thanks for any and all respones. :[

    CT,
    If you can see and open the GIF/whatever (with any viewing application), the Illustrator Save for Web&Devices works. If not, you may ask about it in the Illustrator forum:
    http://forums.adobe.com/community/illustrator/illustrator_general?view=discussions
    If the image is there, to have the issue solved quickly, I believe you should ask in a forum covering the web building application.

  • Downloading a file would bring up an option to open the file or save it - for some reason now it just downloads straight to the download folder. Why? Problem with Firefox or something else?

    Downloading a file would normally bring up an option to open the file with the appropriate program or save it - for some reason now it just downloads straight to the download folder. Why? Problem with Firefox or something else? It's very frustrating - sometimes you want the file opened first so it can be discarded or saved to a different location.

    Hey. that's great! Thanks for posting back with the outcome.

  • Problem with animated .gif

    I have a problem with animated gifs. So if I set a animated gif as background and a button is over it as in the example below, then everytime the animation goes on the button disappears until I go over it with the mouse. So what can I do to solve this?
    import java.awt.Color;
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import javax.swing.ImageIcon;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JLabel;
    public class FrameBackImage {
              public static void main(String args []){
                   final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Frame");
                   frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
                   frame.setSize(400, 400);
                   frame.setResizable(false);
                   frame.setLayout(null);
                   java.net.URL imageURL = ImageApp.class.getResource("animatedw.gif");
                   ImageIcon imageIcon = new ImageIcon(imageURL);
                 final JLabel label = new JLabel(imageIcon);
                 label.setBounds(0,0 , 400, 400);
                 frame.getLayeredPane().add(label);
                 JButton button = new JButton ("Exit");
                 button.setBounds(200, 129, 60, 60);
                 button.setBackground(Color.black);
                 button.setForeground(Color.white);
                 frame.add(button);
                 button.addActionListener(
                 new ActionListener(){
                        public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent arg0) {
                             System.exit(0);
                 frame.validate();
                  frame.setVisible(true);
    }

    In the future, Swing related questions should be posted in the Swing forum.
    Your usage of the getLayeredPane() method is something I've never seen before, so I don't know if thats the problem or not.
    How to display a "background image" is asked all the time in the Swing forum. So to familiarize yourself with the forum you can try searching the Swing forum. Using the keywords I highlighted would be a good place to start.

  • I have a problem with an animated gif.

    I have a problem with an animated gif. When I use text in the
    flash file the gifs text is all messed up. The text was white in
    the flash file but in the gif all the white is splodged all over
    where the text was supposed to be and is totally inelegable.

    OK I found a way around this problem... I delete all the text
    that I had created within Flash and recreated it in Photoshop. I
    rasterized the type in Photoshop the I saved the files as PSD. I
    then went in to Flash and imported them to the library. I place the
    images of the text where they had originally been in my Flash file.
    When I published it as an animated GIF the file was perfect... No
    Black or White blocks...
    SO you might try that... I'm not sure what Flash changed, but
    I used to create text for animiated gif before without any
    problems...
