Save project file and event file?

When archiving a project, should I save the project file and the event file? All of my raw footage is saved on it's origional media.
Cheers.
Tom

You want to save the Project folder contents and the contents of any Events used within the Project. You can also do this from the Project library itself by control clicking on the Project itself and selecting Duplicate Project. Make sure to attach an external drive for the archive.

  • Can I or how can I move my "Project Library" and "Event Library" to an external hard drive and work from there?

I am running low on hard drive space and would like to move my imovie "Project Library" and "Event Library" to an external hard drive.   I cannot figure out how to find these libraries on my hard drive to move them.    How do I tell iMovie to look to the external hard drive to find them?

You need to do all moves from within iMovie so you do not break the links between your projects and your events.
First you need an external drvie that is formatted as Mac OS Extended (journaled). FAT32 drives will not work, but can be reformatted using Disk Utility.
In iMovie, click VIEW/EVENTS BY DISK.
In the Project Library you should see all properly formatted disks as well as your current projects. Hold down the Command Key as you drag the small icon for the project to the small icon for the external drive in the Project Library List. Repeat for all projects.
Now do the same for the Events. Command-Drag the small icon for the Event to the small icon for the external drive in the Event Library List.
Note: If you drag, rather than Command-Drag, you will Copy rather than Move.

  • Using iMovie to save project files to external hard drive?

I have a MacBook Pro with very limited space on the internal hard disk drive. I also have a few FireWire external hard drives.
A friend recently gave me his Hitachi DZ-HS300A mini-DVD camcorder so I could copy footage off of it, load it into my machine, edit it and upload it (several minutes) to YouTube. He can't do this because he lives in a remote area where there is no broadband yet.
I almost never use iMovie. I was wondering if there is a way to save the project file to an external FireWire drive so that there will be no large video files clogging up my laptop's internal hard drive. Can this be done? Is there an iMove preference I have to change?

You should generally leave the iMovie Project file on the boot drive. The Project File is mainly a small text file with in and out points.
The iMovie Event file is where the video assets are stored. You can store events to an external hard drive in two ways:
    1) As you import from the camera, you will see an import screen. You can select the external drive on the import screen
    2) If the event is already on your internal drive, you can click View/Events By Volume. Now you can drag and drop the event to the external drive in the Events SOurce List in iMovie.
For your external drive to be visible to iMovie, it must be formatted HFS+ or HFS+ (journalled).

  • Priemere Pro CS4 will not save , project file is very large

I have a recent project (music videos) that was started in CS4 and upgraded to CS5. ( OS = Windows 7 x64)  Things were great but then I hit a wall, at about 8 sequences it would take 1/2 an hour to save.  I split up the project by making copies of the project file, renaming it and then deleting selected sequences from various copies of the project thus limiting it to 4 or 5 sequences per copy.  This seemed to help for a few saves but it got worse.   Now I can no longer save any copy of the project using "Save", "Save As" or "Save Copy As".  I deleted the preferences file as explained in another thread but it didn't help.  I deleted my renderd files but it didn't help.  The entire project has become unworkable and useless.  I cannot remove sequences from the work area, I cannot save changes.  Attempting either locks up Priemere.  Also, as the problem got worse the size of the project file doubled even though the project had become smaller.
I have other projects started in CS4 and upgraded to CS5 but not opened and saved anywhere near as much as this one and not saved as many times at it took this one to fail.  I have no projects created in CS5 that have been used enough to see if this behaviour presists.
Does anyone have any clue how to save this project?
    Thanx,
    Mel

    Mel,
If you have not done so yet, take a look at this THREAD.

  • Projects folder and Events folder out of synch

I recovered a corrupt imovie projects folder by copying a backup and replacing the old imovie project folder. The imovie projects and events folders now seem to be out of synch. I can see my events, but cannot see not are allowed to create any projects. imovie crashes every time I attemp to create a new project. If I delete both folders and allow imovei to create new empty ones, all is well, but I have no events. I have mnay hours of movies and don't ant to have to reimport. Any ideas? thanks.

you can't, you might have to download a custom ROM that allow you to do that

  • Is it possible to send a fcp x project (media and events) to be finished on a imac running fcp7?

I started a project using FCP X on a Macbook as part of a training workshop in a school.  The school have requested that, if possible, I send the rough cut and all media to them, as they have access to FCP 7 running on an iMac.  What is the best way to approach this?

You need this little app to convert it:

  • After Effects CC 2014 - Rendering / saving project file to CS6

    Hello all,
I'm writing here to try to understand the st**** decision to exclude mp4 and mpeg from the render possibilities from After Effects CC 2014. I would gladly go back to CS6 but as of now I have more than 40 hours of edited video project in CC 2014, which of course cannot save project files to CS6, which is another brilliant move by somebody in Adobe that has the title position of "the dude for giving ideas to p*** people off". Now the problem is this, if I choose to export just a single clip from my composition of course I cannot export it to a container and codec of my choosing since it cannot be exported to Media Encoder, and has to be done in After Effects or I have to make a composition for each and every file, in order to export it to to the Media Encoder.
Now I ask you good people any way to move my projects back to CS6, remove this unusable piece of software and be over with it, I simply don't have the time to be toying around with Adobe's new found glory for Apple and exporting stuff to QuickTime, taking 3 times longer than mpeg. Tried with OpenSeasame and by just exporting an XML file but none work so if there is any other way please let me know.
Good thing I only got 1 month and didn't pay for the whole year...
    Cheers,
    shorto

Did you use any of the new features in either AE CC (the original one) or CC 2014?  If yes, you're kinda stuck.
If no, you'd have to engage in a two-step process: backsave the AE CC 2014 project to AE CC, then open the project in AE CC and backsave to CS6.

  • Project Files Disappear

Without any rhyme or reason, our Premiere Pro and some After Effects project files are disappearing.  We will save our project to our project folder on the NAS and an hour or two later the file will be gone. This has happened 5 or 6 project files already.  Why is this happening?  And how can I make it stop?  We've lost quite a bit of work even from going back to auto-save files.

I think we have discovered the issue.  We have an SNS EVO shared storage system.  Part of it is setup as a SAN and part is setup as a NAS.  We store footage on the SAN and project files on the NAS.  It turns out, the clock on our EVO was getting out of sync.  It had to be set manually because our EVO server is not connected to the internet for security reasons. So it didn't have a clock or time server to get the date and time from.  So over time, the clock went out of sync from our edit machines.  Because of this, whenever we would save project files, the machines saving them knew the correct date and time but the NAS had a completely different time.  So when saving the file it would overwrite the currently saved file but then it wouldn't be able to save the new copy because of time issues.  So we had to setup one of our machine to serve the time directly to the NAS.  Now the clocks sync up and we haven't lost a project file in a few days.  I'm still monitoring it closely but it looks like the problem is resolved.
I know I did a terrible job of describing that.  Basically... it looks like it wasn't a Premiere issue, but rather an issue with our NAS.

  • FCP 7 Project Files created in 10.6.8 with 10.8.4

Will my Final Cut Pro 7 Project files that were created on 10.6.8 be effected when I upgrade to Mountain Lion?

    Hey there jeffhoch!
I have an article for you that can help you make sure you get the best experience from upgrading to Final Cut Pro X. That article can be found here:
Final Cut Pro X: Best practices for updating
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5550
Naturally, the answer to your question is that yes, your projects will be affected. They will have to be upgraded in order to comply with Final Cut Pro X. This should not affect the projects negatively, but I will stress that the article gives you information on backing up your projects and events, and I would definitely recommend that as well:
Backing up your Projects and Events
See Back up Projects, your Project Library, and Events in Final Cut Pro X for instructions.
When backing up your projects and Events be sure to place copies of them inside a new backup folder. This will prevent Final Cut Pro X from automatically opening your backup Projects and Events.
Take care, and thanks for visiting the Apple Support Communities.

  • Help restoring Project File

    Hello,
So, I deleted a Project from my Project Library in order to free up some space and of course, it's one that I now need to re-edit. Thankfully, I back everything up on Time Machine and both the Project Folder and Event Folders still exist. The wrinkle is, at the time, I had my hard drive partitioned and that is no longer the case. When I elect restore, Time machine doesn't know where to put it, so I placed the the folders in the Final Cut Event and Final Cut Projects Folders on the hard drive that now has my media on it. The Event clips are back inside FCP X, but the project does not appear in the Project Library. I know this can be a little tricky but I can't figure out how to get the Project back into FCP X. Thoughts? Thanks!

I'm not sure that I understand what you describe, but your project and events need to be in certain locations for the app to read them.
    What version are you running?
Also, for future reference, deleting projects doesn't do a very good job of freeing up space. Depending on the version there are some archiving procedures that can be helpful.

  • CS6 Freezing on Save Project

When I try to save a project in CS6, Premiere displays the Save Project dialogue and freezes completely.  The progress bar does not begin to move.  If I click cancel, I get the beach ball.  The only way to get out is to Force Quit.  Also, if I let that it remain in the frozen state for more than a few minutes, it grinds my entire system to a halt with hard drive read/writes and eventually system memory errors (which I've never seen before).  I have 8 gigs of RAM and few things running.  It also bizarrely knocked out my system sound, which has not returned after a restart.  The volume speaker icon is now grayed out (different from muted) with no fix that I can find.  The sound thing could be a coincidence, but that seems unlikely.
The project I've been playing with was started in CS5.5.  It's a simple project, just a demo reel that I figured would be a good thing to use to test out CS6.  It has one AE comp, but nothing crazy.  So I opened it in CS6.  It converted, and I saved it to a new location.  I made a few adjustments and saved it again without a problem.  The auto save was also working.
I opened another project from 5.5, also no problems, although I didn't really make any changes.
When I opened the first project again, everything seemed fine until an auto save which froze as described.
I Forced Quit and reopened the project.  As soon as I hit save I got the same freeze.  I figured some kind of corruption had set into that project file.  So I started over with the original CS5.5 project file again.  I was able to save it, this time with incremental file names, and make the same changes.
After a quit and relaunch, I opened the project and again couldn't save.  That was the case for every one of my incremental saves. I've now gone through this cycle a lot trying to figure it out.  The only project I can open and save is the original CS5.5 project file, but if I make any changes and then close the project and come back to it, the freeze on save happens every time.
I'm not particularly concerned about the reel project, but the other project I'm working on is a client piece that I started in 5.5. I'm pretty terrified this will happen to that project as well.  I'll soon find out as I need to move forward with it.
I'm psyched about CS6.  I like what I've seen briefly, but this is obviously disastrous.
Various error messages have also popped up.  Here they are:
Premiere Pro has encountered an error.

Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.
Anyone else experiencing this?  I'm running Mac OS 10.7.4.

I tried everything to fix the muted audio.  This is what worked,  You have to run the script every time you restart your computer.  Save it to your dock for easy access.
    1. Open Utility.
    2. Open Applescript Editor.
    3. Copy the following and paste it at the top half of the editor (copy everything below with the quotes in place):
do shell script "launchctl stop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod" password "your_password" with administrator privileges
    4. Replace "your_password" with your login password. For example if your login password is ILOVEMYSON2011 then it should look like this...
do shell script "launchctl stop com.apple.audio.coreaudiod" password "ILOVEMYSON2011" with administrator privileges
    5. Now go to File ---> Save As (in the Applescript Editor on the Menu Bar)
After "Save As" choose a name for the file. I called mine "AudioFix"
    Under "File Format" choose "Application."
Save it to your Applications (or wherever you like) and drag it to your dock.
Run it whenever you restart your computer. If your problem is the same as mine, the volume indicator will pop on within a few seconds or up to a half a minute after you run the script.
    Good luck!

  • How to trash pref./folders relocation & save projects

    Hi all
My equipment is iMac2011 version 10.6.8, with 2 HD – one for system and the other one is for scratch. I have 3 questions:
    (1) I have some projects done and I already burn them to idvd.  Now I wish to know how do I clear these projects at the same time to keep enought materials for future dvd burning.
    (2) I understand some preferences folders should be trashed to refresh the FCE system that is including the com.apple.FinalCutExpress.plist Folder and the Final Cut Express User Data Folder.  It’s easy to trash the .plist  but when I open the User Data Folder, there are several items inside: i.e. Custom Settings folder (it is empty); Plugins folder containing: PieroF_AutoPanZoom_v1.1Rfxscrip (Simple Text Format); Final Cut Express Obj Cache.fcmch file (Final Cut Express File); Final Cut Express Prof Cache.fcpch (Final Cut Express configuration file); and Final Cut Express 4.0 Prefs fcset (Final Cut Express Configuration File). I appreciate some one would take time to explain these items and tell me which one should be trashed and why.
    (3) Right now my Project File is sitting inside the Autosave  vault (Scratch Disk>Final Cut Express Documents> Autosave Vault) which I think is not right and I think it should be in the System Disk>Documents>Final Cut Express Documents. If what I think is right, then I should relocate the Autosave Vault Folder from Scratch to System Disk and at the same time, the Project file in trhis folder shgould be removed from there and to store it in the Movie Folder, but I don't know
    how.
There must be some one out there don’t mind to take time to explain the above and show me how to solve all these problems.  P Sum
    Thank you all

    (1) Make and save a disc image of the final DVD; you can burn future copies from the disc image ... or just keep a finalized DVD disc to use for making copies.
    (2) Normally you would only  trash preference files if they become corrupted, but when you do need to trash them, use this free app to trash do it the proper (and easy) way: http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/ .  It will also allow you to make backups of preferences so you don't lose all of your settings files in case of corruption.
    (3) The project file will reside wherever you choose to save it in the first place.  Normally, one would not choose the Autosave Vault since autosave files are simply backups of your project file.  The Autosave Vault should be on another physical hard drive so if the drive your project file resides on crashes, the latest autosave file will keep you from losing all your work.  I save project files in my User folder on the main hard drive and keep autosave files on the drive I use as the Capture/Scratch disc.

  • "save project as" problem

I'm having this problem on both my mac book pro using FCE 3.5 upgrade as well as on my imac where I just use FCE. I will go to "save project as" and save as Tape 2 for example. I make changes and then I go to "save" but it is grayed out and I only have access to the "save project as" So then I have to save Tape 2 as a copy and end up with numerous copies because that's the only way I can save changes. Is there a setting that I have overlooked, has any one had this issue.

  • Save project B from project A

I have a requirement to update a certain project (project B) whenever a certain other project is changed (project A).
For that, I am planning to create a subsystem that is called whenever project A is changed (works fine).
I am also able to load project B (cl_dpr_appl_object_manager=>LOAD_PROJECTS ).
However, how can I save project B?
Using cl_dpr_appl_object_manager=>SAVE_CHANGES will not work, since it will also save project A and therefore cause an endless loop.

    Hi Daniel,
A subsystem is a good idea. However, I am not sure you would run into an infinite loop. When you call a save on Project B, yes a save will be called on Project A as well. However, since A has already committed, there will be no changes on it (the method has_changes() will fail) and hence save will do no further processing.
However, you might run into issue with DPR_TRANSACTION_MANAGER if not anything else.
While you will have to play around the transaction manager, it would be a good bet to call the save in the method INITIALIZE_AFTER_SAVE() of the subsystem, since that will be called after the first project has been persisted.
Do use the BAPI as mentioned in the other reply and not he save_changes() method of the object manager.
If project B will be updated once 'save' is pressed, then another idea would be to write an exit that will be called immediately when the 'save' button is pressed and does all the required updates to B before handing control back to project A. Only one save will then be performed and both the projects will be committed (since both are in the same session). In this case, be sure that the subsystem doesn't do a save since the save of the first project will be sufficient.
    Hope this helps,
    Best Regards,
    Prashanth
