Save QT edit in other formats?

Is there any way to edit a movie in QT and save it in other than
.mov format? Or must it be saved first in .mov and then converted
to abother format, such as ,avi or ,wmv?
The reason I ask is that some of my Windows using friends have
trouble playing my .mov videos, but if I convert them to say .avi files
using Visual hub or MPEGstreamclip, they always suffer a loss
of quality.

You can't save to another format, but you can export to other formats. Aside from any file differences, the main problem is that the other formats use other codecs. Windows Media video often uses the WMV9 codec, Flash video uses Sorenson Spark or On2 VP6, and so on. As part of saving to those other formats you would have to transcode the video from H.264 or whatever it is now, to the other codec. In general that also requires buying an add on to QuickTime to do that, or buying an application that does both the editing and compressing.
Look at this page for some possible programs to use:

It could be that the $49 Studio edition would do nicely for what you want to do.

  • Is it possible to print a calendar in iPhoto'09? Or at least export it and save it in any other format?

I constructed a calendar in iPhoto'09, but I can't buy it, as my country (Russia) is not on the list in the drop-down box of the countries.  And I can't export it and save it in any other format so that I could print it off myself.  Would upgrading to iPhoto'11 help in any way?  I understand it might not be possible to buy a printed calendar, as this service might not be available for Russia, but would I be able to at least export it to a different format?  Thanks.

You can export your calendar in to pdf and print it wherever you want)

  • Saving movies in other format than .mov....is this possible?

I'm fairly new to the mac scene and I my computer. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to save my movies in other formats aside from the .mov format? Also, does anyone know if a website that I can download the movies to that will turn it into HTML so i can put it on other sites like, Craigslist and my websites?
Thanks in advance for your help.

I believe the plan that was announced when the Movies were introduced was to roll them out to other stores sometime in 2007 which obviously didn't happen. Presumably negotiations with the licence holders for the regions outside of the US are ongoing but no-one here on the forum (who are just users like yourself) would have any knowledge of how that is going.

  • Photoshop Elements 12 will not let me save files edited on a usb flash drive, but will photos on the hard drive all other apts will on the flash drive

Photoshop Elements 12 will not let me save files edited on a usb flash drive, but will photos on the hard drive all other apts will on the flash drive

Thanks for the information and your help. I have never bothered before changing the format. Next time I will.
I copied the library to the external drive and then it went and said they were referenced files but I was okay about that. Now it cannot see them and will not do anything with them. I think I will buy another external drive and start again by importing all of my files again. I guess 55K will keep the mac busy this week.

  • Question: How can I save Elements 12 photos edited as other than PSE. I prefer JPEG. Also file forma

I have two problems with my new Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 editing program. I cannot seem to be able to save an edited photo as a JPEG. How can I do that. I only want to save as a PSE file in case I want to return to it later for further modifications.
My other problem is that my program locks up on me. I can only get out of the program by shutting down my computer and restarting.

    Jon,
That was my first thoughts too, but I have just done some tests and I don't think that is now the problem.
    My test was-
    1) Start with a CR2 RAW file and open it with 16 bits/channel
    2) Confirm that it is in 16 bit mode - layers not available etc.
    3) Save As and JPEG, JPG was an option and it converts it to 8 bit in the output file.
It seems that this has been the case since version 11 - perhaps you could try it to check that I'm not doing something wrong.
I think that Sureaddy's problem is that he is saving it first as a PSE file. After doing that, I can only save it as a PDF or a PSE file.
    Sureaddy
When first editing an image, I suggest you save it as a PSD (Photoshop file) not as a PSE (Photo Project File). If you are using layers, then you will be in 8 bit mode. Providing you don't save as a PSE file you should then have the option of saving it in JPEG/JPG format.
If you must use the PSE format, you could try using the Save for Web option - that can produce a JPG file.
As for your lock up problem, is there any pattern to when it locks up?

why does adobe premier elements render my video everytime i change something in it even when i have lots more of the video to edit? other editing software only seems to render at the start then lets you edit until your ready to save at the end.  Constant rendering means its almost impossible to edit anything. What version of Premiere Elements and on what computer operating system is it running? It will not influence my answer but will give me information in case I need to get into version specifics to detail my answer further.
Timeline rendering is a preview matter. It does not fix anything, but it is your window of opportunity to catch of problem sooner than latter. If the Timeline rendering indicator displays orange (11 or higher) for the line above the Timeline content, that is the project telling you that you are not getting the best possible preview of the playback of that content in the Edit area monitor. And, every time you edit a file, you have altered the file from the time before. So, if you want to see the best possible for what you now have, you Timeline render. This is particularly helpful when you are dealing with titles, effects, transitions, and non native formats. You cannot turn off the Timeline render indicator system, at least none that I have ever found nor seen reported. You can do selective Timeline rendering by having the gray tabs of the Work Area Bar span only the Timeline segment that you want Timeline rendered.
Consequently, you either ignore the Timeline render indicator system, move on in the project, and take your chances in the outcome or you Timeline render to get your best possible preview if the Timeline render indicator is suggesting that you do so.
I am not approving or disapproving of this project feature, just commenting on the what is.
This is not Adobe. Rather user to user. If you want to have your voice heard at Adobe, you might consider filing an Adobe Feature Request Bug Report Form.

    Please consider.

Add On...it is also possible to do Timeline rendering in a project, save close the project, and reopen it to find your previously "green" lined content now "orange", indicating unrendered. Yet the preview files generated originally by Timeline rendering are still existing in their hard drive save location. That is another story for other time.

  • Adobe Reader 9 and XI do not save other formats to PDF.

I had Adobe Reader 9 on  PC Windows 7. I am sure I used to be able to save other file formats to PDF with Reader, but when I try now, I get the sign saying "The printer name is invalid" and the file wouldn't be saved to PDF. I tried uninstalling Reader 9 and installing Reader XI. Exactly the same thing happens. Does anyone know what this sign means and how the problem can be solved? Any suggestions gratefully received.

You probably had Adobe Acrobat if you remember doing this. They look similar.

  • Transcoding form VOB format (DVD) to other format for editing.

    Hello,
I've copied the content of a DVD the MPEG-2 VOB format, and I have to editing with that material. I was thinking of transcoding in a other format to work the edit. In what format I can work with in an easy way but keeping the best quality ?
    Thanks for you attention !

but I never heard about loosing more quality in transcoding.
Then you don't do this much. Codecs are COMPRESSED formats. That is part of their name...CO...compression. DEC...decompression. Whenever you take a compressed format and convert it to ANOTHER compressed format, you lose image quality. Because compression is a way to throw away certain bits of information yet keep the image looking decent. Going from one format of compression to another...so different bits of information are thrown out...causes loss in quality. So if you transcode and transcode and transcode you lose information every single time. So you get loss in quality.
    Always have.

  • Can't save WCSN event file to hard drive, nor export to other format

I subscribe to WCSN and can view my event on my MacBook, but would like to save the QT Player file and burn to DVD for viewing on my TV (ie personal use only!). But when I try to save, I get error -32767 and cannot find this error in the Support and even Applecare didn't know! What is this error?
Also, I tried exporting to various other formats, but the export stopped/crashed after 20 sec.
If the above is not possible, could I record the streaming in real time to hard drive or DVD? What do I need to do that?
    Any info appreciated!

If you open a Finder window you can also sort by size by clicking the size column header. In view options you can also set it to calculate all sizes so it will also show folder sizes. Although not as handy as the cataloging applications you can at least start tracking down where the disk space is going. With video you can probably just copy half a dozen files off and immediately free up many GB.
Note that this isn't just a matter of convenience. OSX makes lots of temporary files and is doing it all the time. If it can't find space for those files it can result in a serious drive crash and that could cost you several hundred dollars in recovery expenses. A Sig indicates, you need space just for computer operation. I feel the % recommendation is a bit vague since people use drives ranging from 10 - 1000 GB in size. My computer regularly uses 6GB of hard drive space for temporary files, and I like to leave wriggle room, so I usually leave at least 15-20GB. You can check the temporary file usage by looking at VM in Activity monitor.
As BDaqua observes, having a crowded drive also slows down your computer. If it has to hunt for nooks and crannies in which to place bits and pieces of bigger files that takes time. Normally one does not have to worry so much about fragmentation of files on a Mac, but your scenario of working with large files on a really crowded drive may be defying that generalization.

No, I already tried looking at that. The file that recovered was not in the trash, it appeared in my documents folder. I opened it up and inside was an iText Express document with coding. Then inside of there, was and then and this "SoftwareMap" document contained a bunch of coding and symbols and words.

  • How can I re-save jpegs edited in photoshop that were created in lr4 as jpegs?

    Hi,
I have some raw2 files that I have edited in LR4 and exported as jpegs. I open them in Photoshop CS3 and edit (crop in this instance) but the save menu has a much reduced number of file types for these items, and jpeg is not one of them. How can I get round this? The edited file defaults to a psd file after I have cropped it. I have tried to resave in other formats (tiff, psd, raw) in photoshop, then reopen them to save as jpeg, but the same reduced number of options are there - and no jpeg.
    Thanks for your help
    Rachel
[ADDED] I wanted to mention that I checked it was RGB mode and 8 bit, but it is. thanks

Your files are 16-bits and JPG is an 8-bit format.  They may also have the ProPhotoRGB color-space.
Before saving as JPGs for displaying on the web or viewing by others they need to be 8-bit sRGB:
PS-> Edit -> Convert to Profile -> Destination Space = sRGB  (if the Source Space is not sRGB)
    PS -> Image -> Mode -> 8-bits (to convert from 16-bits to 8-bits)

  • How do i save an edited iPhoto

I'm new to iphoto from photoshop.  I've cropped a photo but it doesn't show up anywhwere.  When I go back to the edit mode from the original pic, the cropped image displays. However I can't find it to view or print as a discrete photo.
    Thanks

    You have two options:
    1. Set PSE as your external editor, send the photo from iphoto, work on it in PSE and save it without changing the name or format (you don't want to see the Save As window) and iphoto will remember your original + last saved version, although you'll have to lose the edits to see the original again. This doesn't work for raw files and you will probably need to set the Editor preferences>saving files>on first save to save over existing to get it to work for other formats.
    2. Export the photo to the desktop, use file>open in PSE, make all the changes you want, save the file in any format with any name you like, then import the edited photo to iphoto as a new file.

  • How scan a text document and save as editable text not image

I have a new ENVY 5660 and a macbook pro running yosemite.  When I scan a text document and try to save it, I am only given a choice of image formats.  How can I save it as an editable text in pages or word?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are wondering how to scan a text document, and save as editable text, and not a image, with your HP Envy 5660, on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to look into this for you!  According to your printer's specifications, it states: NOTE: Integrated OCR software is available only with Officejet 5740 and 8040 models. Which means, this software is not included with this printer. You might be able to perform this operation, if you are able to get third-party OCR software. Such as: ReadIris.  Hope this answers your question!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”
