Save QuickTime Conversion Preset

Hello. I am tired of exporting using quicktime conversion and having to change the options, filters, size, and more very time I export for a company. I make these videos a lot and I want to make it so, instead of having to change all the options every time, I want to have a preset saved in the drop down menu (for quicktime conversion) that I can choose and it will do all the options each time. Is this possible? Thanks for any help!

I haven't really tried Compressor before
Time has come
And you have only to gain from using it. Read the small manual for starters.
Or gather useful info from sites like [kenstone.net|http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/fcp_homepageindex.html]
(scroll down in the list to find Compressor related articles)
In FCP QT conversion window > Use> you have the option of choosing/keeping the "most recent settings".

Please help. When exporting a 720p video using Quicktime Conversion in FCP it saves some extra temporary files to my computer. The temporary file it saves is called ICMMultiPassStorage. This file gets so large that eventually the program and exporting process crashes. I have been able to locate the file using GrandPerspective and close out of FCP to delete it. But when I try exporting the movie again it creates the ICMMultiPassStorage file again. I have made sure my scratch disks are set to my external hard drive so I know that isn't the issue. How do I fix this problem so these temporary files are not being stored on my internal hard drive instead of my external? Thanks!

Try exporting the timeline "using current settings" via Make QuickTime Movie, then submit that clip to Compressor for the transcode. This should be faster and less painful.

  • QuickTime Conversion settings for preset options

Is there a place I can get the detailed settings behind the presets for QT Conversion exports? Would like to see the frame sizes, data rates, etc. for things like "iPod" "iPhone" etc.
    Thanks,
    billy

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Yes you can tweak any parameters with the "export using quicktime conversion".
Just select quicktime movie format and click the "options" button at the right.
You'll get the Movie settings window. From this point, use the settings and size for video and setttings for audio.
The choice of your codecs will be directed by the intended use of your movie.

  • Is it possible to create a new preset for Export/Quicktime Conversion ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to make a new export preset for the Export with Quicktime Conversion, in FCE HD 3.5
I am working on preparing a file for YouTube, and finding that some of the video effects render differently when exported, so I am having to render a couple of tests, but with YouTube's new 640x360 16:9 format, there is no easy way to do this other than checking the settings at each export. If one could make a new preset, it would be much easier. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    t

    thankyousir.
I think that Apple could add this, easily, as a feature to what, essentially, is QT Pro, and its embedded brother in FCE. Apple could also release a tiny update for QT including the new YouTube format... I haven't checked if iMovie knows about this new resolution, though it does upload directly to the tube itself.
    Thanks for your time,

  • Quicktime Conversion - Save previous settings?

On several of our Final Cut systems - When we export using quicktime conversion and then close out of Quicktime, it defaults back to H.264 and mono audio. Any easy way to get the system to save certain settings?
    Thanks!

I'd also suggest you look carefully at your workflow construction. I don't know your needs or why you've ended up with your processes, they may suit your situation perfectly.
If your shop is anything like mine, ad hoc processes tend to become standard operating procedures because no one has bothered to evaluate it objectively. Worse, in my shop, out old ways of doing things fail to get updated when technologies change.
Example: Exchanging video clips with my partner used to be done by logging onto his computer over the network and dropping files into his drop box. What we do now is export out of FCP to server and then go pick them up from the server. Thsi does two things. It deliberately slows things down so fewer mistakes are made and it leaves a copy of the file on the server so anyone can find it later.

  • Export using Quicktime Conversion Save Prompt Freeze

I'm seeing a bug when I export using Quicktime Conversion using Final Cut Pro 7. From the main save prompt window, if I open "options..." and make my export adjustments and return back to the main save window again, it does not initiate a save when I click the save button. Further, it will not let me cancel out either. The save/cancel buttons will click blue for a moment as if they were pushed, but nothing happens - the save prompt window is totally unresponsive. My only course of action is to force quit. (note: the force quit window does NOT report FCP as unresponsive.) This problem does not happen every time, but enough to be a major annoyance. Has anyone had this issue? Thank you.

Your lunch break long wait rules out any "frustrated after a few seconds" reaction and would certainly be long enough for a drive that has dozed off to react.
Some particularly processor intensive formats could conceivably have a short delay before something starts to happen.
Writing to the system drive is not something I would personally do -I have dedicated storage for my entire video workflow. But this would also rule out a sleeping drive. The system is constantly being written and read.
If you are writing particularly large files to the system drive, bear in mind that a good chunk of the "tons" of free space is allocated to "swap" files -data that can't be written into RAM is off loaded to the hard drive. Depending just how large the swap files are and how large your video files are, there could be a delay in reallocation of swap file space to allow the video files to be written. Having less space for swap files can cause the OS to slowdown. Drives will generally become less responsive, the fuller they are.
Note that I am by no means an expert on this, so the percieved slowdown may be less significant than what the paragraph above implies.
Run Disk Utility and make it a regular part of your maintenance routine. Writing and reading the huge amounts of data that are used in video production can cause problems with the directory structure. Better to catch it early and fix it, directory damage is culmulative. You might not notice it until your files are no longer accessible.
How is the system response when you export a project as a self contained movie using current settings (same as your Timeline)? Exporting with QuickTime Compression always recompresses your video -even when writing using the same codec as the Timeline already uses, so it will take longer to process.
Self contained with current settings is the workflow that I always use. The resulting "master" file is brought into Compressor to make the deliverables. This also frees up FCP and lets me continue editing while compression runs in the background.

  • Export w/ Quicktime Conversion - aduio destroyed

I do a weekly video for posting on Vimeo.com. My normal method is to finish the editing, then export using Quicktime conversion. This is the easiest method to get the final movie file I need for use on Vimeo.
About a month ago I created a new user account on my Mac. This is one that I have dedicated to video editing only as I'm working toward starting an event videography business. Anyway, the first of my weekly videos seemed to go OK, but now all of a sudden for the last two I can't get a usable video. The video portion of the movie is fine, but the audio is shot. It's all scratchy/staticy. When I go into FCP all plays fine there.
I exported the video as a movie with no audio, along with the audio file that was imported to FCP to begin with, and dropped them on the hard drive, then went to my own user account. When I tried to open the project I got some error about it being for a newer version of FCP, so I just created a new project, and imported the video movie and the audio clip, and it exported as it always has, perfectly fine.
So, I know something is out of place on the other user account, but what could it be?

I did trash all 4 of the prefs and it still does this. I've never seen the prefs manager before, so I'll give that a shot.
The audio that is used is an AIFF file. I get the file as an MP3 (that's how it's recorded live on the fly) and I use Sound Studio to save it as an AIFF. I have to do some trimming on it each week, and Sound studio is the easiest for what I need. In Final Cut it doesn't show that it needs rendering, and I generally don't, because when I do I've had major problems in the past that I still can't track down. What it will do is basically cut the audio into three sections, then reverse the first two. But just like this, when you go back into the project and play the time line all is as it should be.
Also another bit of an update, I got rid of the audio file from my project and re-imported it, and it worked. For some reason it's fine the first time, but if I go to do it again, it will corrupt it, except it's only corrupt in the project, not the file itself. That's how I ran into this to begin with - I have an intro clip that I always put on, and I had accidentally dropped the decibel slider in the timeline for that clip. Otherwise it was fine. So I went back and brought the slider back to where it should be, and that's when the troubles happened. Ironically the audio problems were not in the part with that clip, only the main video part.

  • Quicktime Conversion for PS3

I have the HV-20 and a PS3, I'm trying to put a test clip on a USB drive then watch in HD through my PS3. Sony says the PS3 can only use MPEG-4 format, so I used FCE to do a quicktime conversion and export the clip into the correct format. It comes up under MP4 (ISMA) but I could only get the custom field under image size to come up using just MP4. I messed up and used the 1920x1080, when the HV-20 only does 1440x1080, but still when I played it on the PS3 not only did it look horrible it was also in 4:3 instead of 16:9 ratio. Why is this? Can you tell me which settings will give the correct look on playback with the PS3?

OK, I just tried a size "passthru" export encoding and got a "unsupported data" error on the PS3 with 2.1 firmware! I believe these files had previously played back in 4:3 format (literally 1440X1080 with no horizontal expansion) using previous firmware.
The coding times are so long it is difficult to run through all of the possible combinations in a reaonable amount of time.
The file does play back in 4:3 in QT player. Evidently, the 2.1 firmware either disabled 1440X1080 video or added a check to refuse playback with no anamorphic expansion flag set.
In a way it kinda makes sense that QT would play it because it has to support odd sizes such as that, whereas 1440X1080 non-anamorphic would not be a standard HD format.
I opened the file in QT-PRO and scaled the horizontal width as follows:
    window-->show movie properties-->select video track-->visual settings-->uncheck "preserve aspect ratio" -->revise horizontal "scaled size" to 1920 -->file-export mp4-->options-video format "passthrough"-->save
The file now plays in 16:9 in QT, but still shows as "unsupported data" on the PS3.
from searching the web, I get the impression that the mp4 specification for horizontal scaling has somehow diverged from the original QT method. From there it seems to digress to people resorting to low level HEX editors to sort things out (good grief!).
    reference---http://forum.doom9.org/showpost.php?p=988006&postcount=2838
Actually, I am not sure why a scaling flag would even be required for true HD since there is no legitimate 1440X1080 4:3 aspect ratio format in the AVCHD spec

  • Crashes on quicktime conversion

    hey
strange this is happening to so many people (i saw a post like 3 threads down about the same thing)
i have an 18 minute video that i need to export...it is in the AIC HDV 1080i60 codec and everything went great when i export to a quicktime movie....
but i use quicktime conversion though and try to export and it crashes like 70% of the way through...
weird thing though is that is exports just fine to iPhone format (that is the only other one i've tried)
here are the technical details and what i've tried:
    iMac (less than year old)
    2gig ram
trying to save to a 1Tb external firewire with 400gig free (also tried saving to OS disk with 350gig free space)
i have trashed preferences and tried to export as quicktime also.....doesn't work
last weird thing is that i exported two seperate versions of it (different bitrates) just two days ago....came back and tried exporting again but it's a no go
    any ideas?
why is this issue affecting so many people
    Thanks
    ~Will-i-am~

    hey
    got a little more information...
i took the finished movie (the project exports fine as a straight quicktime movie) to a Mac Pro that my university has. I tried exporting it with the quicktime on the Mac Pro (from the exported HD quicktime file) and it failed again...
so does this narrow it down to something wrong with the movie itself or it's "assests"
    i appreciate any help
    Thanks

  • KNOWN PROBLEM BUT NO SOLVING: FCE CRASHES ON QUICKTIME CONVERSION EXPORT

    Hi to all,
i'm an italian new user. I already use FCP on my Mac Pro 2007,and i purchased FCE for my new MacBook 2008 3GB Ram.
I use Snow Leopard for both machines. FCE is installed only on MacBook. The issue is:
When i put ANYTHING on timeline (effect, clips of ALL formatsetc) indipendently from Sequence presets,FINALCUT EXPRESS CRASHES IMMEDIATLY WHEN I TRY TO EXPORT TO "QUICKTIME CONVERSION". No messages,no report, nothing.
I searched and read many pages of this forum,i found a similar thread where the suggestions were the erase of preferences in Libray and reinstalling. I DID THAT but FCE crashes again.
I'd like to resolve the problem on this machine, because i will use FCE on this computer.
Follow, there is a sample video of my problem,i captured it for this thread. I hope will help you to understand exactly i want to repair:

    Tom,
This is an excellent tip. I really learnt something I wasn't aware of. FCE always seemed to render anyway but it takes longer if you did not render first. But you are right. The manual mentions it as well.
Anyway, it does not explain really why, with Quicktime X installed, I and others experience FCE crashes. Before with Leopard , FCE really never crashed.
Contrary to what I mentioned, I still experience crashes, also after full rendering. Strangely enough, it does not happen all the time. It seems difficult to reproduce the circumstances when FCE crashes on export. Any suggestions?

  • QUICKIE - default settings for quicktime conversion export

    Hi All...
Is it possible to set the default settings to still image when choosing export via quicktime conversion?
I do a lot of frame grabs and at present whenever i do an export via QT Conversion i have to change the default from movie to still image...can still image be set to the default and therefore be selected when QT Conversion is selected from export options?
I think that is comprehensive enough a question!
Thanks for any help or guidance..it will save a lot of mouse clicking if it is possible.
    ta...Mike

Here's what I do. Park on the frame I want to export. Mark In AND out, Make subclip...
Wow! I sometimes need to do a few frame grabs, and this is a great way to do it.
    Good thinking.
there are a few other editors and often it is difficult to persuade them out of their comfort zones.
Gee and they still get work?
If I didn't get out of my "comfort zone" my style wouldn't change, I wouldn't be able to handle OS and suite updates, let alone move away from linear suites.
I understand that some people might want a quick and easy solution, a single button press, but this solution sounds like it isn't so hard to make editors run and hide.
If they do baulk and cry, I would suggest you find some new editors; cause they are never going to adapt and give your clients top quality stylish work.

  • Saving Settings for use with Export using Quicktime Conversion

    Dear All,
Is it possible to save a set of settings for use with the Export using Quicktime Conversion feature? The reason I ask is that we have to export a quicktime of every tv commercial we make (using the same settings) and it would be great if "one click" could deliver the export settings we need.
    All the best, Sean

Well, you can create a droplet from Compressor that would do what you'd like...
Open compressor and in the Help menu, Select the user manual. Navigate to page 315.

  • Difference between Export as Quicktime and Export as Quicktime Conversion

If the desired end result is a Quicktime file, compressed with the default h.264 "for broadband" preset, should there be any difference between:
    1) exporting a sequence with "Export as Quicktime", then opening up that file in Quicktime Pro and compressing it with the preset.
    or
    2) exporting the sequence with "Export as Quicktime conversion" with the preset.
I had expected these to be equivalent, but I've found that method #2 gives me dramatically sharper text in titles. Can anyone explain why? I'm using FCE 4.

Well I reckon it's because you are crunching numbers twice, in #2 it's once.
Despite digital transfers being said to Lossless, I call it Lessloss.

  • Export Using QuickTime Conversion To Windows Media (.wmv)

I have Final Cut Pro HD version 4.5 that runs on my G5. I have a problem when I try to export video to Windows Media file (.wmv). After I select Export / Using QuickTime Conversion and than choose Windows Media in Format box, Final Cut does compile a .wmv file. The only problem is that it's only 30 sec. long when the original video that sits on Timeline is 2 mintues long. When I export the same video to Quick Time file, everything works perfectly and the duration of .mov file is the same.
I tried to set in and out points, but it made no difference.
So now I can't make a file that can get played on Windows computer that has only Windows Media player. And .avi file is not an option since I can't get one compressed enought, so it turns out too big. I understand that I can buy some third party software to make .wmv file, but I want to make sure that out of box Final Cut Pro HD 4.5 can't make Windows Media files before spending extra money.

You need to buy the full version of flip-4-mac to encode/save to a wmv. Sounds like you only have the trail/free playback version...
You need either the pro version or studio version:

  • Export using QuickTime Conversion + SMB automount problems

I have noticed an interesting (read bad) behavior in FCP (5.0.4) - If I try to do an export using quicktime conversion with the destination being an automounted (via netinfo) smb share as opposed to a apple-k mounted share in m4v, 3g, mp4, image sequence, still image or quicktime movie - I get a File Error: Unknown Folder. However if I do the same export but in avi, wmv, dv stream, or flc formats, it works fine.
Trying to do the same export operation in quicktime pro produces an error -120, which is equivalent to directory not found.
Seems like a quicktime problem dealing with the automounted shares, anyone else run into this issue? Have a fix?
    Thanks!
    C M I

I know I can save locally + that it is tied to the quicktime components - I'm looking for fix/workaround that addresses the issue and streamlines my workflow, thats the reason I set up the automounter in the first place.
So it's clear though, quicktime has no problem with smb in a general sense, it only has problems w/ the automounted smb shares - manual or command+k mounting of smb shares offer no problems.
I use the automounting for two reasons: first is to emulate unc paths for rush render queue and second is to have consistent working paths to static content on a file server so final cut docs can be passed from editor to editor and link consistently.
