Save safari session

I've been switching from Firefox to Safari just recently.
One feature from firefox (actually, it's an extension) i am missing.
In firefox i could open severl URLs in different tabs, and when i quit firefox, it would save all these tabs, the url's they were currently displaying, plus the history for each tab.
Then, when i restart firefox, it would restore all these tabs.
Is there anything possible in Safari?
Best regards,
Gabriel.

Hi Gabriel.
Safari does not support this function, at least natively. There may be some Safari add-on that does: try searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.
My browser of choice, OmniWeb, does support the function you describe, calling them workspaces. A workspace is a saved set of browser windows, which can include tabs, pointing to specific Web pages. You can define multiple workspaces, shift easily between them, refresh them, update them, redefine them, etc. Very powerful.
FYI: Please post questions regarding Safar to the Safari Discussion.
Good luck!

  • What the programs you can install to save previous sessions on Safari

    I understand there is a program (or 'extension') called 'sessions' which can save previous sessions on Safari. However, I cannot seem to find it anywhere (not even listed on any search sites). Anyone hearsof this, or know its location.

  • Suddenly, I can't save Safari web pages as PDFs. ???

    I often download website documents to my Mac Pro by choosing the "Save as PDF" option in the Print dialog box. Suddenly, that option is "grayed-out" and unavailable. There's a Save as Postcript option which ultimately fails, and I can print the document on paper, which is not an acceptable alternative.
    This problem appeared after I downloaded the latest System 10.4.9 update, but I can't say whether that's the cause.
    I can still save Safari pages as PDF files on my G4 Power Book, also running 10.4.9, but not on the Mac Pro. Both computers have Adobe CS2's PDF capabilities in addition to Apple's Preview software.
    Any ideas? (Previous posts on similar problems did not have an answer.)

    Hello David:
    Hard to tell what happened.
    I would do a couple of things:
    Clear the Safari cache.
    Trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist) and restart.
    If that does not help, you could (depending on how important the function is to you) run an archive and install:

  • How can I save a session to another hard drive or flash drive?

    I want to rebuild my hard drive but I want to save the Firefox session (like 70 tabs) before I do so I can reload them after the rebuild. Can I save a session to another hard drive or flash drive?

    The data of the current session is stored in the sessionstore.js file in the profile folder.

  • How to save the session states for a tabular form WITHOUT using check boxs?

    Greeting guys,
    As you know that we can use collections to save the session states of a tabular forms, described in the how-to doc of manual tabular forms. However, what I am trying to do ( or have to do) is to provide a manual tabular form, and save the session states for validation, without using the check boxes. Because a user can put contents into some columns in a row without checking the corresponding checkbox, according to the requirements. So basically what I tried is to loop over all the rows and save Every entry into a collection. However, sometimes I got "no data found" error with unknown reasons.
    My current solution is to use the "dirty" Retry button that gets back the history, which IMO is not a good workabout. So, I'd appreciate if somebody can shed some light on a better solution, especially if it is close to the one in that how-to doc.
    Thanks in advance.
    Luc

    The following is the first collection solutin I've tried:
    htmldb_collection.create_or_truncate_collection('TEMP_TABLE');
    for i in 1..p_row_num loop -- Loop on the whole form rows
    if (htmldb_application.g_f01(i) is not null) or (htmldb_application.g_f05(i) <> 0)
    --If either of them has some input values, the row should be saved into the colleciton.
    then
    htmldb_collection.add_member(
    p_collection_name => 'TEMP_TABLE',
    p_c001 => htmldb_application.g_f01(i),
    p_c002 => htmldb_application.g_f03(i),
    p_c003 => htmldb_application.g_f04(i),
    p_c004 => htmldb_application.g_f05(i),
    p_c005 => htmldb_application.g_f06(i),
    p_c006 => htmldb_application.g_f08(i)
    end if;
    end loop;
    Some of columns have null values, but I don't think that's the reason. Because once I clicked all the check boxes, there would be no error no matter what values were in other columns.
    Another issue would be extract the values FROM the collection, which has been tried because I had problem to store the data into the collection. I used "decode" functions inside the SQL to build the tabular form. I am not sure whether it will be the same as a regular SQL for a tabular form, like the example in the How-to doc.
    Also I didn't use the checksum, for it is not an issue at the current stage. I am not sure whether that's the reason which caused the NO DATA FOUND error.

  • I would like for Firefox 4 Beta to save my session like it did in the previous version, how do I set this up?

    Normally when I would close Firefox 3 I would be asked if I wanted to save my session, now in 4 Beta it simply warns me about closing multiple tabs, but I want to save my session.

    I have an easy fix for you guys ... more faster.
    The solution of mark2 ALWAYS save your session, this one is asking you, like for firefox 3.6
    Go to 'about:config', then search for 'browser.showQuitWarning' and set it to 'true'.
    Have fun.

  • Why does my iPad drop from my Safari session?

    Since I upgraded my iPad to version 5.0.1 my Safari session drops in the middle of whatever I'm doing. Anyone else having this problem?

    Hi,
    Tap Settings > Safari
    Tap Clear History
    Then tap Clear Cookiees and Data
    Restart your iPad.
    Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button down until the red slider appears. Slide your finger across the slider to turn off iPhone. To turn iPhone back on, press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
    If that helped, clear all the data more often to avoid problems. Not much different then emptying a browser cache on a computer.

  • Save the session data in the database !

    Hello everybody,
    I read an article on JavaWorld website about saving the session data of an application in the database instead of mantaing them in memory.
    In this way, the web application is more scalable and in case the application server crashed the session data can be taken by another application server.
    I was sure that this was a good motivation of writing a class to save the session data of my application in the database, but i read another article where a good methodology to
    create a scalable web application was to save the session data in more application server so if one application server crashed another application server can take the control of the entire application.
    I think that at the moment i have just a bit of confusion in my mind.
    Any suggestion ?
    Cheers.
    Stefano

    What you've read was a method of "load balancing" where "state" is maintained by a backend server instead of the web servers themselves. Yes, if done properly, this would achive true web server independance, and if one crashed, another would pick up where it left off. Of course, you'll still need an HTTP load balancer in front of the web server farm, so it can dynamically shift the load.
    From an architecture standpoint, it's a good way to go, but only IF you really need 7x24 with zero downtime. Reason being twofold. 1) It's a huge performance hit, becase each GET/POST requires a trip to the DB, because it's holding state. 2) It's a lot of work, because you're now taking on the role of "managing" sessions (e.g. when to expire, reading the cookie/URL for session IDs.
    I was once responsible for a 7x24 Intranet that ran core business applications. My service level agreement with my customers was 7x24 alright, but with the risk of a possible "blip" (meaning, if one server crashed, simply reconnect and continue your work). Worst case, one lost just that one page worth of work.
    I hope that helps explain!

  • Is Is the option: "Do you want to save this session?" gone? I can't find it anywhere in options.

    When one closes the Firefox browser in 3.xx versions, if the "warn me about closing multiple tabs" button is enabled, option listed as the following question: "Do want to save this session?" would be given as "yes" or "no". This provided the convenience of opening the browser with all the original tabs from the last session: a VERY usable option. It is nowhere to be found with 4.xx versions. If it was removed please re-install with the next upgrade release. If its still available, tell me how to enable it. Reese

    Firefox now always stores the old session, and you can access it by going to the History menu and selecting "Restore Previous Session"
    If you want Firefox to display the message to save the session, it can be turned back on by changing some preferences.
    # Type '''about:config''' into the location bar and press enter
    # Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    # Locate the preference '''browser.tabs.warnOnClose''', if its value is set to '''false''', double-click on it to change its value to '''true'''
    # Repeat this for these 3 preferences '''browser.warnOnQuit''', '''browser.warnOnRestart''' and '''browser.showQuitWarning'''
    If you always open the last set of tabs, an alternative approach is this:
    # Click the orange Firefox button, then select options to open the options window
    # Go to the General panel
    # Change the setting "When Firefox starts" to "Show my windows and tabs from last time"

  • Is there a way to save a session to open at a later date? (besides "restore previous sesson"?)

    I often have very many tabs open, and I would like to be able to save that session, and be able to open it whenever I want to work on that stuff again. I end up hitting restore previous session every time I go online, and then open a zillion more tabs.
    So is there a way to do that, in the current version, that I have overlooked?

    App-tabs are often to used to do what you describe.
    There is an extension (or two) for reading later, which I've never used. I do use both app-tabs and Evernote though not exactly for the exact purpose of postponing reading to a later date.
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/what-are-app-tabs

    * Read It Later :: Add-ons for Firefox<br>https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/read-it-later/
    * Remember Everything | Evernote Corporation<br>http://evernote.com/
    Actually you said postponing a session, app-tabs comes close to that. There is also the History menu where you can call up a previous session.

  • Multiple Safari Sessions

    My wife uses Safari and has her's set up the way she likes with important bookmarks on the task bar, homepage setup, etc. I want to open up Safari and have all my personal options at my fingertips as well. So I'm looking to have two different Safari sessions on one notebook. Does anyone have experience or know how to solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi and Welcome to Apple Discussions...
    So I'm looking to have two different Safari sessions on one notebook.
    You will need to create a new user account to do this. Otherwise you can't keep History / Bookmarks and above all, the Safari Preferences separate.
    Open System Preferences/Accounts. Select the Password tab. Click the gold padlock icon bottom left corner of the window to make changes. You will be asked for the admin password. Now +
    and start a new account.
    Login using that account and launch Safari.

  • How do I save terminal sessions?

    Hello I am using terminal to connect to multiple network devices and want to save each session with IP address and terminal settings. Is this possible?
    Thanks

    You can export the shell's settings so you can reload them later, but as for saving a session you won't be able to do that. When you exit and kill the connection the remote server will disconnect you and terminate any child processes your shell was running.

    ''want FF to open in last session of windows -- won't ask me if I want to save current sessions like it before''
    '''You can still have the old messages''', to make sure you get your tabs restored immediately, but with or without the messages and whichever way you respond to the message you can still get back your previous session through the History menu. (see item #31 "tabslost")
    * http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#tabslost
    You can make '''Firefox 6.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.*, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 thru 6.0, look like 3.6)]. • Save cookie/session after login on web service client

    I am calling a web service that has a login method. It sets a session id in
    a cookie. Every subsequent call fails and says I'm not logged in. How do I
    save their cookie or session ID such that the server thinks I'm logged in?
    Here's the client code (I used clientgen to create jar from wsdl);
    DatashareManager dsm = new DatashareManager_Impl();
    WebServiceContext wsContext = dsm.context();
    WebServiceSession session = (WebServiceSession)wsContext.getSession();
    DatashareManagerSoap dsmsoap = dsm.getDatashareManagerSoap();
    String result = dsmsoap.login("username", "password"); // this works
    EResult result2 = dsmsoap.deleteReusableList(1, "bob"); // this fails 'Not
    logged in'

    That sounds like a difficult one to implement because you'll essentially need to intercept the AppsLogin servlet (or AppsLocalLogin.jsp) to conditionally redirect the user somewhere else - and that would be an intrusive (and not recommended) customization.
    Some possible alternatives:
    1. Rather than publish http://hrlive.myintranet.local:8000/OA_HTML/AppsLogin as the URL that you users connect to, publish something like http://hrlive.myintranet.local:8000/OA_HTML/XxLogin.jsp instead. That could be a custom JSP that asks the user to agree to the disclaimer and, when they agree, store that agreement in a cookie and then redirect to AppsLogin.
    That's not quite the same because you're asking the user to agree before they login. It also means that they can navigate direct to AppsLogin and bypass the disclaimer (unless you customize AppsLogin to verify the cookie).
    2. Assign all users a default 'Disclaimer' responsibility with a single function (such as an EIT, or a custom OA Framework page) that allows the user to agree to agree to the disclaimer. Then once they've agreed to it have some process that automatically grants them their real responsibilities and revokes the Disclaimer responsibility. For example, if you used an EIT that could be an API User Hook.
    One problem with this approach is that you'll need to clear cache through Functional Administrator before the new responsibilities are visible so you'll either need to find a way of doing that programatically or ask the user to wait until tomorrow (assuming you do a nightly web server bounce).
