Save/Save AS

I can't open a PDF, make changes and save/save as in AAXIPro.  It gives me a standard"...file is read only or may be in use by another...please save using a differnet name..."  Very frustrating.

Hi bysselstein,
Sorry for the issue you are facing, but this page is for Adobe Connect related stuff. Can you visit http://forums.adobe.com/index.jspa?view=overview and post your query in the applicable product's forum. Somebody surely will help you.

Ask in the right place and you might get an answer, in this case a forum specific to your browser (which you don't even mention, I'm pretty certain that every browser has a different way of doing things like that if they do it at all).

  • Illustrator CS 2, save/save as dialog is invisible

    Hello,
the last work I did in Illustrator without problems was on Jul 23rd. Today I wanted to open an AI file and save it in a different format. After opening the file, I chose "save as..." from the file menu. Illustrator's window borders changed their color, signalizing that they lost the focus. But the save/save as dialog was not visible. The Illustrator window was not respnding anymore, because the save dialog was "on top" of it, being modal.
However I can press enter, and the dialog responds. For a new file, after choosing "save" and pressing enter the Illustrator options dialog appears. For an existing file that I opened, after choosing "save as" and pressing enter I am told that the file already exists (because I wasn't able to change the file name in the save as dialog) and whether I wanted to overwrite it.
My workaround for now is to copy the file to the desired folder and set the new name in Windows Explorer. Then open that copy, make the desired changes and save it.
But: How can I restore the save/save as dialog? I work with two monitors but I didn't change their order, position or anything that could cause the dialog being shown in an offscreen position. Is the position stored somewhere in the registry? How could I reset it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello,
thanks very much for that tip, unfortunately it didn't help.
But to help German users (as I use the German version of Adobe Illustrator, too): The folder name in German on Windows XP is

  • Finder changes the file name in Save/Save As dialogue box

Whenever I save or save as a file, the dialogue box opens, but when I make the file list active when using a mouse, the file name I click to changes the file name I am saving. I simply want to activate the file list window so I can find the right folder. For example if I am looking for a folder called "Receipts" I want to be able to click on the file list window to activate it and then type the first 2 letters of the folder-- "re" and then save the file in that folder. The finder keeps changing the name of the current file whenever I click on one of the "greyed-out" file names? This doesn't make sense unless of course I want to replace that file.
Is there a shortcut that makes the file list window in the dialogue box active while in the SAVE/SAVE AS dialogue box??

Yes, this example of horrible UI design has been a problem since "Panther". It illustrates what happens when you try to copy UI behaviour from another OS, do it poorly, and end up with a mess. In 10.3 and 10.4, the combination of the renaming behaviour with the default "replace" selection in the resulting save can result in data loss.
Compared to the old Mac OS where a tab would flip the focus between the text field for the file name and the file browser, the current behaviour either doesn't allow enough keyboard access to controls, or with "full access" enabled, too many to cycle through easily. The inability to switch focus to the file browser using the mouse (depending on the view) is a horrible productivity loss. Having to recheck the filename before saving is a horrible productivity loss. Since there is no "undo" for the renaming in most files, having to retype the name is again, a horrible productivity loss.
If they had done it right (a simple change, like requiring a modifier to rename), users would probably welcome the "rename" feature as a useful addition. Instead, it has the feel of something a junior Windows-trained programmer slipped in past their supervisor.
In short, I am not aware of any workaround or hack to avoid this "renaming" behaviour. I doubt it will do any good since people have been doing so since "Panther", but you could try submitting feedback:

  • Open, Save, Save As Plus the pop up at the bottom of the page

When opening an .mdb file on our intranet home page (medium security) while in IE 8, the link activates the access database within the link and opens access in a new window (as intended).
We have been testing with IE 10 and the link now wants to open the older style "OPEN, SAVE, SAVE AS" pop-up (3x5 card with white background).
After selecting OPEN, we also get the new style of pop-up at the bottom saying "couldn't be loaded" RETRY, CANCEL, VIEW DOWNLOADS.
Regardless of what I select the access db still opens as intended.
    The big question is,
HOW do I make it so no one will see the first or second pop-ups.  I don't want the user to have an option to OPEN, SAVE, or SAVE AS, and I don't want the bottom pop-up either.
I just want it to open like it did under IE 8.

    Hi,
the default security slider value for the Intranet zone is Medium-low... and Medium on server versions of windows. mdb files are 'unsafe'. Check your registry for any 'unsafe files' whitelists..
    look in these keys.
    Const HKEY_Include = "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UnsafeFiles\Include"
    Const HKEY_Exclude = "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UnsafeFiles\Exclude"
Use GPO to customize your security zone settings and prevent users from changing your customizations.
file downloads are controlled by the IE Download manager, that checks the mime-type returned from the server with the extension on the file....
    mdb==application/x-msaccess
Inspect the value of this registry key
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.mdb
I suspect that you will need to have a open sub-command that points to your access.exe file location in your Office folder.

  • Why do the "SAVE", "SAVE AS" and "UNDO" functions of InDesign CS6 stop working after a short time?

Why do the "SAVE", "SAVE AS" and "UNDO" functions of InDesign CS6 stop working after a short time?

Normally they don't. You might have some sort of problem on your system, possibly a conflict with other software, or corrupt ID prefs or application. Trashing the prefs is easy, and good place to start: Replace Your Preferences
It will help if you tell us the OS version, whther you've installed the 8.0.1 patch, and how you are trying to access the commands, and what happens when you do. Is this isolated to one file, or does it happen with all files?

  • IE9, Win7: How to get rid of "What do you want to do with ...doc? Open, Save, Save as

My web application downloads a .doc file.  With IE9 and Windows 7 it displays the dialog "What do you want to do with xxxx.doc? Open, Save, Save as"  Prior to IE9 I could check the box that said "remember" but with IE9 I do not see a way to prevent
the dialog from occurring every time.  How can I turn off this dialog like I can in all prior versions of IE?  I have looked through the forums and the answer might be here but most threads seem to be a little different problem.  Some of my
customers are switching to FireFox and Chrome because of this problem so I would like to find a solution.  I found another thread that had a potential solution (1. Click Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab. 2. Click Local intranet, click Sites, uncheck
"Automatically detect intranet network" if you checked it. Then check "Include all network paths (UNCs)".  Click Advanced, add the intranet to the zone. Then Close and OK.) but that did not solve my problem.

    Hi,
Based my research, due to increasing in security, we cannot disable Download Manager of Internet Explorer 9 from changing settings, editing registry keys or editing settings in Group Policy. This can prevent websites downloading automatically. Instead, we can
    set default download location.

  • Event Handling: Save/Save as

    Hi everyone,
is there any way to process Photoshop events before they are actually handled by photoshop? What I mean is, e.g. when the user saves a file I want to prevent the whole save process given certain circumstances. I have a working notifier for "eventSave" in my automation-plugin but I do not receive notification directly on this event (i.e. when the user has chosen save/save as from file menu) but only after photoshop has saved. What I'm trying to do here is check my global flag and if its on and the user wants to save, I want to pop up an info-box and cancel/prevent the whole save event.

To the best of my knowledge, this is no documented way of doing it: the Photoshop event model is based on "do-and-notify" paradigm, so unless the powers that be suggest differently, the answer is "no".

  • "Save/Save As" Causes CS3 Photoshop to Quit

    Hello!
I have had no problems up until today, while trying to save a JPEG file I was working on. I trashed prefs and tried disabling Version Cue, but that didn't work so I reinstalled Photoshop. No luck. I'm on a MacBook Pro running OS X Lion 10.7.3. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

    Hi Chris,
Thank you for your reply! Unfortunately, I didn't save a copy of the crash report. The good news is that the Save/Save As is working again. Yay!
I used Disk Utility to see if Repair Disk Permissions would help. It didn't, but I noticed the log pointed to problems associated with Javascript. I don't know if that has any relation to the problem.
I think you are right that it was an Apple system problem. I couldn't think of anything else to do, so I re-downloaded the latest Apple software upgrades. After restart, Photoshop was behaving normally again.

    Hi,
    Try this,
If your problem is only when saving because I have seen people that cannot open files either.
If you can open a File,
    Open it.
Then close it, or keep it open but now you will be able to create new documents and save them.
    Good Luck

  • Disable PDF security Save/Save-as

Is Acrobat have a feature to disable the Save/Save-as in a PDF Document?  Alternative any creative ways to view for web browser and prevent user from saving the PDF Document?
    Appreciate your expertise for guidance.

However, none of that helps once the PDF is displayed because the user can save it using the PDF viewer. There is no security that can stop a PDF from being saved, shared, copied and emailed.
DRM (at a 5-6 figure sum) could protect the file so unauthorized copies can't be opened.

  • Adobe InDesign cs5 crashes every time try to save, save as or export

I've got adobe InDesign (cs5 version), and every time I try to save, save as or export a file, the InDesign window closes or crashes. This is very frustrating as I have a project which needs to be completed in the next two days using InDesign. Help!

    Try reseting the preferences.
or  delete Mark II folder from the location
    Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SING\Mark II
Mac OS: [Startup Disk]/Library/Applications Support/Adobe/SING/Mark II
    It will fix this..
This problem is pretty definitely not SING, so deleting the Mark II folder is not going to help. (It wont't hurt, though!)
Resetting prefrences is always a good thing to try.
I suspect it is a corrupt story thread of some sort. Moving pages to a new document, exporting stories to IDML, copying the file and deleting pages until the problem goes away...those are things I would try.

  • How can I prevent Adobe Acrobat from applying optimizations and compressionsserve on save/save as...

I am generating mailpiece documents as PDF v1.4 from a document composition tool.  I am using Enfocus Pitstop v10 (v10.1.7.27 to be exact) to remove some unneeded water marks from the produced document.
My issue is that I need to PRESERVE the original PDF structure as emitted from my composiiton tool and I'm finding that regardless how I proceed, Adobe Acrobat want to resave the PDF as v1.6 and apply a series of optimizations and compressions which alters the original PDF structure.  The reason I need to preserve the strucure of thePDF is to confirm 508 compliance for the emitted PDF documents.
Note: I've tried various settings in Acrobat Distiller and the Adobe PD printer (thinking they are invoked somewhere inthe backgroud of Acrobat when it goes to save/save as...) but haven't experienced any progress...
Am I chasing a rabbit here (meaning what I want is NOT possible) or am I missing something in my configuration attempts??
    Thanks!

If you need the final PDF to have the requisite well-formed structure tree (that is, compliant with ISO 14289-1, PDF/UA-1) and thus "accessible" then you need to do the adjustments to your PDF's content streams before establishing that well-formed structure tree.
Note that PDF  versions 1.4 or above can have that well-formed structure tree - put another way PDF version 1.4 or PDF-1 (PDF is the ISO Standard ISO 32000-1) can have the well-formed structure tree. I can 'build' such a PDF that starts as PDF version 1.4 via Acrobat 5, do some additional post-processing with Acrobat XI Pro which, via a Save As puts the PDF into a new "version" and *not* adversely affect content streams / structure tree.  Your post-processing is what is changing the "guts" not the save to a different version.
    Just becaues - an obtw:
For those who desire to / need to provide accessible PDF success is predicated in having and understanding the essential reference material.
