Save sew swatch?

I'm using InDesign CS5.5. How do I make a new swatch and save it so that it appears in my swatches pane when I close and re-open InDesign? I created a few new swatches, but when I opened the program again, they were gone.
Thanks for any help.

for swatches to become available in new files you need to add them with no files open.

  • Save Custom Swatch Folders?

    Hi,
can I somehow save individual custom Swatch folders? It seems to save only the "Default Swatches" folder (which makes the option for other folders somewhat pointless)...
Is it also possible to adjust the size of the swatch icons/squares?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately not. You may only customize and save your default Swatch to be available across all documents by default.
Multiple Swatches/folders option is provided to let you organize (or restrict) the colors for a given project only and gets saved for corresponding project .
You may wish to try out new workflows using the Kuler Panel (that lets you reuse themes) as explained here: Flash Professional Help | Working with Kuler Panel

  • How do I save a new color swatch?

I am trying to create a style for my charts and have created CMYK swatches to do so. How do i save the swatch information so i dont have to reenter the CMYK information every time i create a chart?

on your color pallette, there is a row of little white squares. If you drag the color swatch to one of those squares, it will stay there until you remove it. It will even stay there as you open more documents.
    Hope it helps.

  • Can't save swatch library in ID 5.5

    Hi,
I've just spent a half hour creating a new swatch palette of our company colors. I want to save them all out as a swatch library file. But, the "save as" pulldown choice is grayed out. Why? I know I've used this function before.
    Thanks,
    Peter

    Hi again,
I've just tested it, and found that once you save your swatches from InDesign, you need to move the resulting ASE file to the Illustrator>Presets>Swatches folder, and then open Illustrator. Once there, go to Swatches Panel, and in the options pull-down, you'll now see your custom library in the list, without having to search for it. It doesn't behave quite the same as a swatch book file, but you'll easy access to it from the pull-down menu.
    Cheers!

Just checked again. And it indeed DOES open automatically, but you have to restart Illustrator first. If this works, then just check this message as solved.
    Cheers again!

  • Unable to save a gradient to a swatch panel

Help,  I was always able to do this before.  (should be simple...) I made a gradient and just want to save / add it to a Swatch Panel that I've already defined and saved.  I used to be able to drag (I think) the gradient into the desired Swatch Panel and then 'save the swatch again' It won't let me do this today even though I just did it last night!  :-(
I'm working on a Windows 7 machine and I am using Illustrator CS5....
Very frustrating; any help would be super, thanks!

humm, thank you for the reply.  I'm not sure what I did last night then (and many other times, I still have others saved too)   I have a Swatch panel with all the gradients I saved for one project.  I can open a new document, call up that swatch panel by choosing to view a USER DEFINED panel with a name I saved it as...and all my gradients are right there....so I'm entirely confused now.  All I did was drag the gradient over to it and resave it???
Frustrating.  I saved 3 gradients just last night and it worked perfectly.....
Now I can't drag the new gradient over to the panel I previously saved.  When I try to it beeps at me.
In case I'm describing this totally wrong I've inserted a pic of the Panel which I've named TES GRADIENTS and even circled the gradients... there all 3 of them are.  How did I do that LOL....

  • Color Swatch changes when opened in Photoshop CC 2014

I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this, here is the scenario:
I create a CMYK color swatch in Kuler and save the swatch, download it as a .ase file, and then load the swatch in Photoshop CC 2014.
When the swatch is loaded all of the colors are lighter than the colors in my kuler swatch.
The below image shows the top kuler swatch, and the colors that were imported once loaded in Photoshop.
TOP: screenshot of my kuler swatch from the kuler website
BOTTOM: screenshot of the colors from my swatch once imported into Photoshop CC 2014
Does anyone know why this is happening and how it can be fixed?
    Thanks!

That's because color management is different in Kuler and PS.  The good news is that Kuler Panel is now available for PS 2014 at  https://creative.adobe.com/addons/products/2507
You can directly set active color from this panel or include the whole theme into the swatches panel without change in appearance.

  • Saved own colors in swatch palette in start up page

How can I save my favorite (most used) colors in my swatch palette and use them over and over again? (Means I want to see them at every start up. In earlier versions I could find the "start up page", where I could save them, where it is in CS3?)
Thanks, Laszlo, designer at SIGN-A-RAMA Margate, Florida

Check the help files on creating your own swatch library. You can save the swatch library on your computer and then open Illustrator (with no document open), open the swatch library that you created, and then check persistent in the pallette options. It should then open up every time you open Illustrator.

  • Custom swatches keep disappearing

    Hello,
    I am using Illustrator CS4  14.0.0
I have saved a Workspace that includes a User Defined swatch.  (see attachment).
Even though I have saved the workspace, when reopening the program, it goes back to the regular swatches that come with the program.  Are we not able to save custom swatch panel in a workspace?
    Thank you!!!!

    Thank you Mike, and Monika.
Monika, thanks for the link.  Great info there.
Mike, checking Persistant seemed to have worked for me.  I quit the program, reopened and it was still there.  Keeping my fingers crossed.
    Thanks!!!

  • Why won't colour swatches I create stay in the colour swatch palette?

Whenever I create a new colour in the colour swatches it only stays there for a couple of actions while working on a project.  I understand from others that once they create a colour it stays there.  Why can't I get that to happen?

Make sure you save each swatch or swatch combination as an ACO file. Use the dropdown menu near the top right of the swatches panel.
You can then load named swatches, or replace the default swatch with a named swatch - using the sme dropdown menu.
You can also download swatches designed by others from the Kuler website.

  • Bulk Swatch Changing

I hope I describe this right - I have a document, and have a large list of swatches (some global colors, some patterns)  I would like to know if I can save multiple variations for different color libraries, and somehow apply them when needed.
I currently only know how to replace them one by one, merging or adding a duplicate swatch doesn't do what I need it to when I load a swatch library with the exact names, but different colors.
I am hoping there is a quick way to load it into my  document, instead of dragging and dropping each one... so I can open document, which is currently using color library A, but open color library B and replace the similarly named swatches with the colors/patterns of library B onto the original color library within the document (A)
    Thanks!

I have only been using Illustrator for a week or so... so I could be wrong, but I dont believe this is what I am looking for... For example, a certain group of objects in one design have a green fabric pattern swatch, in another, it will be a solid color, in another, it may be a polka dot pattern.... the recolor seems to only recolor the existing objects, and existing patterns, and won't necessarily replace the pattern, or remove it.... which is why I was looking for a complete swatch library replacement...
Again, I am new at this program, so I am sorry if this is an obvious answer...  the illustration I am using has maybe 25 Swatches, most solids, but maybe 6 have patterns, but sometimes it will be more sometimes less... Instead of saving multiple illustrations, I was hoping just to be able to save the swatch libraries - and use those when I am printing my work...
    Thanks for the help!

  • Color swatch lost from client's file

A client submitted an indesign file which she converted from cs7 (pc) so I could open in cs6 (mac). She insists she created a certain color swatch in her palette but when I opened her file, the color was not in the palette.

Can you describe or send a link as to how to save the save the swatches?
Use the dropdown menu from the Swatches panel and select 'Save Swatches'. This would also be the same location for loading them once the client saves them.

  • Organising Colour Swatches Tab/Palette

    Hi everyone
Re: InDesign CS5 colour swatch palette/tab.
I do artwork for two monthly magazines which consist of editorial and paid advertisements. These ads are either designed by me or supplied by customers and change regularly. Over the years of receiving artwork in various formats - pdf being the most common, my swatches palette has grown to be almost out of control. Every month I do a sweep of the swatches, removing unused and converting any spot to cmyk manually (I have had transparency issues with spot colours), but my main issue is with the jumble of colour swatches. I know if I create a new document and import all the swatches from the previous month issues, the swatches will arrange themselves in order - all PMS colours together, all cmyk colours together etc, but as I don't necessarily want to create new artwork each month I open up last month's doc and strip out old text, ads and replace with the current monthly info.
Is there any way I can arrange my swatches in order?
My screenshot only shows half of the swatches in the palette.
I would be really grateful if someone could show me how to fix this, I accept that I may have some bad working practices going on here.
    Thanks, Liz

  • Swatch color playing 'follow my leader'

Hi.  I'm fairly new to Illustrator and am using it to design clothing. I'm using CS4 on a mac. I have a cd full of eps patterns which I want to incorporate into my designs, eg a flowery pattern on the collar and a stripe on the main body of the garment. I opened the eps file, selected all then hit 'define pattern'. Then I dragged the pattern window into the swatches panel. Because it had opened in a different document to my garment sketch, my pattern swatch wasn't showing up in the swatch panel on my garment sketch document, so I went back to the pattern document and hit 'save swatches' from the bottom of the swatch panel. Then, back in the garment document I hit 'open swatch library' and found my swatch in 'user defined'. I then used the swatch to live paint the relevant section of the garment. So far so good (except illustrator 'unexpectedly quit' several times while trying to save the swatch - how do I stop that happening?). Then I repeat the process to bring in the next pattern swatch, but the colors of the second pattern swatch go all wrong when I live paint fill the next section of the garment. They seem to be following the proportions of the first pattern swatch. Can anyone help - it's driving me crazy!
    Thanks

Repair Permissions on a Mac I can tell you someone like Jacob or Mylenium or James Talmage would have to tell you about the Windows platform.
On the Mac go to Applications?Utilities/Disk Utility and select your hard drive or start up disk the partition or disk you have your system installed on if you have more than one hard drive.
then select first Aid in the dialog and select Verify Permissions and the n after that select Repair Permissions
To check the scratch disk go to Illustrator in the Menu Bar and select Preferences and choose Scratch Disk. If you have more than one Hard drive  change the disk to anything other than the startup disk, if yiu only have one hard drive I suggest you get another drive you can use as a scratch disk or partition to make a scratch disk.
I have several Hard drives and a RAID configuration internally. I crossed the names of the hard drives away.
Scratch Disk selection (after you select a new scratch disk you have to quit and relaunch Illustrator in order for it to take effect.

  • Saving Pattern swatch ASE

I wanted to save a pattern swatch and not the whole swatch library so I deleted all the swatches until it was just the one pattern swatch. I saved it as an .ase and then opened it in another document. I noticed however that when I open the pattern in the other document it shows the default swatch library and no pattern swatch. When I save the swatch as an ai. it opens the default library as well as the pattern swatch. Is there a way to save just the pattern swatch?

ASE will only save color swatches, no patterns.
