Save subtitles created in DVD Studio Pro as a new .txt or .srt file

I just did the authoring of a 52mn documentary with 4 subtitles tracks, we received from the translator .srt's files which we imported with no problem in DVD Studio Pro. The problem is that there was a lot of mistakes and badly timed texts due to the poor work of the translation cie. We had to edit the subtitles and it was very easy in the subtitles editor in DVD studio Pro...Now I have to do a master of the film on beta num and i want to provide to my post production cie a QT file of the movie + a .stl of the subtitles we edited within DVDSP : How can I export the text from the subtitles track to create a new .srt, without having to do it manually which is very time consuming
Hope i'm clear !
please amigos, help me !

You can export an Item description of the track with the subs in which you have corrected and use Subtitle Xtractor
http://www.truevision-video.de/
It's a free program and can take the Item Description and as the name implies extract the subtitles and create an STL file. Very handy
There was another utility called Subtitler that did this but don't think it's available anymore

  • How to export subtitles create in DVD Studio Pro into a Quicktime file?

    Hi,
My film was edited in Final Cut, then exported to DVD Studio Pro to make dvds. Subtitles were added in DVD Studio Pro.
I need now to make a Quicktime file of the film for web streaming and the file still needs to include the subtitles (or the option to make them appear)
but how can I export the subtitles (dvd studio pro type of files) to my Quicktime file, for streaming?
I read that this is possible but how?
    Please help!!
    Thanks!
    Paula

A DVD uses VOBSUB aka. idx/sub format subtitles which are bitmap images. QuickTime itself does not support this format but Perian can sort of allow them to work. However firstly Perian is Mac only, and secondly I would not expect this work in a web-browser. In fact I don't think there is anyway to control subtitles in a web-browser.
If you have the subtitles in a text format, preferably .SRT format, then you may have more options but again I would think you would still have problem in a web-browser.
In general terms, the best utility for adding text subtitles to a QuickTime compatible file is iSubtitle details are available here http://www.bitfield.se/isubtitle/index.html
What would be possible would be to 'burn' permenantly the image of the subtitles in to the video. This means they would always be visisble even in a web-browser but could not be turned off. You would also be limited to a single language. There are several tools that could do this including Handbrake (to convert directly from the DVD), and SubMerge also from Bitfield.
There are some tools for Windows that use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to convert the bitmap subtitles in to text ones.

  • How can i get a video file with subtitle out of DVD Studio Pro?

i got a project for a dvd in dvd studio pro. There are subtitles which i created within dvd studio pro.
Now i want make a web version of the video with the subtitle, how can i get to this?

    Hi Mr. Cutter,
There is an app called "D-Subtitler for Mac" (as well as several others)
which should allow you to extract the subtitles from a copy of the
finished dvd and use them otherwise.
It's been awhile since I had to do it but it is a fairly common need
    so the software exists.

  • How to install DVD Studio Pro 2 on new machine?

How do in install DVD Studio Pro 2 onto new machine when PowerPC applications are no longer supported in OSX 10.7.4?  I have the original disc which i bought a few years ago but can not install it!  Help please.

DVD Studio Pro 2 was released on August 6, 2003.
It won't run on a recent Mac (Intel).
There is absolutely no way to install and run it on a modern Mac.

  • Why can't I change my subtitles' appearance in DVD Studio Pro?

    Hello there.
So, I'm pretty confused. I created an .stl closed caption file in MovieCaptioner which I then imported into DVD Studio Pro. Understandibly (if not, annoyingly), I lost my original subtitle formatting, including font size, color, font, and the black bar I had originally positioned the text over to make it easier to read.
I'm not trying to change the captions within DVD Studio Pro but whenever I select all (or even just select one individual caption) the option to change the coordinates, etc, is greyed out and I can't select anything. And when I hit command + T and change the font, it doesn't do anything to the overall stream. I just want to make the subtitles larger and add a black bar behind them. Not sure what I'm doing wrong..
    Thanks in advance!

DVD Studio Pro is only capable of authoring HD DVD, which is an obsolete format, or SD DVD. Unfortunately, it cannot do Blu Ray.
If you want HD, you can make a basic Blu Ray directly from FCPX, or from Compressor, using a Blu Ray burner. If your movie is less than 35 minutes long, you could alternatively make am AVCHD red laser disk, using the Blu Ray template with a DVD optical drive selected as Output Device. (AVCHD disks are HD resolution, but are encoded with somewhat less quality than Blu Ray; nonetheless, they look very good.)
The other HD options for disk delivery rely on third party solutions - including Roxio Toast and Adobe Encore.
    Good luck.

  • Can you export Subtitles done in DVD Studio Pro

I made some subtitles in DVD Studio pro and I'd like to switch them from one project file to the next. Is there any way to do this?

    Two possible ways:
    1. Not sure if this will work but worth a try: Export an item description of the track with the subs in. The n open new project and import that Item description which will bring in the track complete with subs, movie and sound. If this is all you want this should work fine.
    2. If however you want to actually export the subs to maybe edit elsewhere or whatever you do the same and export Item Description of the track.
    Download Subtitler
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/26322
And use this to extract the subs from the Item description. Can be a bit flakey but works - make sure you have defined the language of the subs in DVD-SP and also make sure you use the Item Description Import not Auto in Subtitler. Then you can save them as STL file for use elsewhere.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I save still image at DVD Studio Pro?

    hello,
how do I save some still image from my track to use as background menu on DVD Studio Pro?
    thx

I'm not certain a screenshot would give you as good quality as the actual export still image option. I mean, if the function is there, why not just use it? Heck you could even set up FCP to just right click something and have it open in Photoshop right from the timeline... screenshots are fine as a last resort, but using the export command would be better I'd think.
And really, on DVDS, the still images in a menu background end up as a movie too anyway eventually so why not just build your menu background in FCP, make it look all good (you can import Photoshop files into the timeline) and export it out as a movie to Compressor and then to DVDSP? That's how i do it and the menus look great.

  • Chapter markers created in DVD Studio Pro pause for a second on playback.

I have been using the FCP suite for quite some time and we author a lot of DVD's in DVD Studio Pro. We produce many DVD's which require chapter breaks. My problem is that, when the DVD's we produce are played back, on most players the DVD will pause for a second or so on each chapter break/marker. Is there a way to get around this problem? The playback of the DVD's is fine, but the pauses at every chapter break/marker are annoying for us & our clients.

    Hi Nat
It sounds like you're setting each chapter marker to end jump to the next. This will cause the pause you describe - if you leave each chapter as 'not set' you should be able to play thru them no problem.
    Cheers

  • Can you create a DVD studio pro project from a DVD?

I have inherited a DVD project that needs updated.  I have the original DVD that was burned, but the DVD studio pro project that was used to map and make it does not exist.  I only want to add to the DVD.  Is it possible to take a DVD that was burned in DVD studio Pro and open it so that you see the layout and links in studio pro and copy that DVD as a project?  Or am I stuck remaking the dvd with links and buttons etc. from scratch?
    Thanks for your help.

    >>Is it possible to take a DVD that was burned in DVD studio Pro and open it so that you see the layout and links in studio pro and copy that DVD as a project?
    No.
You can extract the disc's video content using MPEG Streamclip. I have a tutorial here... http://www.secondchairvideo.com/?p=739

  • Apple DVD player cropping Pal DVDs created in DVD Studio Pro

Very strange phenomenon going on here: I own a 17 inch macbook pro, purchased in Canada. I live in the UK now and sometimes am required to make Pal DVDs in DVD Studio Pro. When I do this and pop them in to play, the apple DVD player (in Leopard & Snow Leopard) crops the top and bottom off the 16:9 DVD. When I exit full screen mode and then re-enter it, the DVD appears as it should (without cropping). However, when I produce a Pal DVD in Adobe Encore and do the exact same thing, it always plays perfectly on the first try. This must be some sort of a bug, but it hasn't been reported by anyone on the net. I've tried reinstalling the operating system, as well as deleting the preference files of both DVD Studio Pro and the Apple DVD player. What is going on?

I used to see that too, on my 15" Macbook but put it down to a glitch in the video rendering - it certainly isn's a DVDSP issue, but lots of folk have seen it. Discs that show this on DVD Player should play back fine in a set top box. If they don't there's a further issue to solve!

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 Dual Layer Disc Question - Can Files Be Moved from Top to Bottom Layer?

    HI Everyone -
I have authored a dual layer DVD for a feature film with lots of bonus material.  I put the layer break in the least intrusive spot where the frame is already still and there is little sound.  Layer switch is fine.  DVD plays as it should with no problems other than the expected pause during the layer break.
I'd like to have the layer break at a point much earlier in the movie, where it actually goes to black and silence for a moment - a spot DVDSP4 won't let me assign a layer break marker to.  I do understand why.
DVD Studio Pro has the movie on the bottom layer of the DVD, I assume because that is the first track I created.
At this point, is it at all possible to move the tracks around where the bonus features take up most of the bottom layer so the less of the movie is on the bottom layer and I can move that layer break up (without completely re-authoring)?
    Thank you for your time.

    The fun continues...
The DVD Drive on my 10.6 machine seems to no longer be working...
Maybe this caused/contributed to/resulted in the earlier problem?
Anyone else experiencing similar issues? All hard drives and firewire drives seem to be functioning normally at this time.
My 10.5 machine appears to be eating through the DVD writing process successfully... slowly, but successfully

  • DVD Studio Pro 4 won't open Version 3 files

Any ideas? It asks me if I would like to update the project, I say yes, it starts to load the project and then either tells me that the project could not be opened or opens something up with nothing there, no open windows, just the DVD Studio Pro bar at the top of the screen,
    thanks,
    Pam

All the assets are there, and when the project is loading the script under the bar passes the loading assests bit no problem but nothing actually loads, F3 doesn't bring up anything.

  • Gaps in Audio in DVD Slideshows created in DVD Studio Pro

Need to complete project but when creating slideshows in DVD SP with music set to each track & transitions between pictures, there is about a second gap in the audio just before the transition between pictures starts.
It works fine on my mac and also my DVD player at home, but not on my clients.
I am desparate for an answer as I am looking a bit stupid

    Kevin,
Have you tried converting the slideshow to a track and seeing if that helps? Sometimes the slideshow play funky on different players, and converting to a track seems to help with some of the quirks.

  • Echo on DVD created in DVD studio pro

    Hi folks.
I made a DVD for a client that played back fine on my edit system when I tested it, but when they played it back in the board room there was an echo on the track.
I exported the audio from FCP using Compressor with the following settings:
    Name: Dolby Digital Professional 2.0
Description: 2.0 Dolby Digital audio at 192kbps
    File Extension: ac3
Estimated file size: 82.4 MB/hour of source
    Audio Encoder
    Format: AC3
    Sample Rate: 48.000kHz
    Channels: 2
    Bits Per Sample: 16
    Target System: DVD Video
    Data Rate: 192 kbps
    Compression Preset: Film Standard
    Audio Coding Mode: 2/0 (L, R)
    BitStream Mode: Complete Main
    Center Mix Level: -3dB
    Surround Mix Level: -3dB
    Dolby Surround Mode: None
    LFE Exists: No
    Dialog Normalization: -27 dbFS
    Copyright Exists: Yes
    Original Content: Yes
    Audio Production Information Exists: No
    RF Overmodulation Protection: Off
    Channel Bandwidth Lowpass Filter: On
    DC Highpass Filter: On
    LFE Channel Lowpass Filter: On
    3dB Attenuation: Off
    phase 90: Off
    Deemphasis: Off
Does anybody know what on earth would cause this, or could it just be their playback system that needs a kicking.
Any advice would be greatly appeciated

Do you think that could be what the problem is?
I just got a bit more info from the client. Turns out the echo only starts halfway through the disk. I check it all on my end again and seems fine here... Ho humm..
This just keep getting more interesting...
