Save Thumbnail as PSD? - PSE 7.0

My backup has become corrupted for about a month's worth of family photos. I would like some images to put in my scrapbook, so my question is... Is there some way to save the thumbnails in Organizer to a PSD? I realize the resolution will be bad but something is better than nothing.
Thanks

Taking a screenshot of the Organizer thumbnail is the only way I've heard of to recover lost photos from the Organizer thumbnails.

Well on Windows one can not get the thumbnails for psds. But you can always save your image as jpeg.

  • Jpeg File Save & Loss Rate in PSE

When working on jpeg files in the PSE Editor, does PSE perform an automatic internal file "Save" after each adjustment, (i.e., levels, color, etc.)?  I have always assumed that the file does not get saved until the user performs a manual save after all editing has been completed.
If automatic internal "saves" are performed after each adjustment on a jpeg file. then image degradation could be accelerated beyond what one would expect, i.e., each Save of a jpeg file reduces image quality.  If these automatic Saves are being performed, then I guess the only way to edit files is in a psd format, then save the final psd file to a jpeg format to conserve disk space.

    Yes.

No, the 'in memory' format is not saved to the drive unless you manually choose to 'save as'.
If you periodically save a jpeg version (overwriting the older ones), without closing the file,  jpeg compression changes are not cumulative. The 'in memory' version is kept unchanged. It's not like you save to jpeg, close and re-open, in which case the jpeg double compression would have taken place.
If you want periodic saves in a long editing session of a picture, it's best to save as psd, because that saves layers, selections... It's also better if you work in 16 bits. If you save in jpeg, the jpeg compression will be done only once, there will be no cumulative loss of quality.

  • Photoshop cs4 color changes after I save it from psd to jpg

I have used  cs2 for years and just got cs4 and I always work on my pictures in raw then save them as psd then open them in photoshop and work on them and save as jpg for printing.
I can't seem to be able to do how I used to.
I open the picturte in raw and fix the color until it looks good, then open it in photoshop and it still looks good and I save it as jpg then the whole thing goes down hill here I view it in Windows live gallery and the color is all off, its way over concentrated and looks red and jsut way different then it did in photoshop and thats how it prints too.
Any idea what it can be?
Why soon as I save it as jpg the image looks so different.
Please help, I'm working on clients pictures and don't seem to be able to save them so they are right.

okay I see that this is getting little more complicated.
So now I see it isn't anything with windows.
I do edit the picture in raw and it looks good and save it as psd then when I open it in photoshop it looks right and if I select view-proof colors then it comes out with that crazy color as it will look after I save it.
So going from raw where i edit it looks good then after I save it even if I save it there as jpg and open on photoshop it alway changes when it is checked on proof color.
Is anyone on here that know whay this is happening? how do I make the pictures stay the same after I edit them in raw?

  • PS CS3 will not save as a psd nor open a psd

I've had photoshop CS3 installed on my XP PC for nearly 2 years and have worked with it successfully. All of a sudden when I go to save as a .psd I get the follwing:"could not complete the Save AS command because of a program error". Also, when I try to open .psd or .pdf or .eps etc i get the following: "could not complete your request because it is not the right type of document. What gives?

I have tried that and when I did I got a pop-up that says "delete photoshop settings file?". I said yes to that but it did not solve anything. Also, now when I try to use the type tool I get a message as follows: "could not complete your request because something prevented the text engine from being initialized."
In desparation I uninstalled the software and reinstalled but again, nothing has changed; I get the same issues. I'm beginning to think that something may be amiss in my registry. Because of the PS problems I've decided to see if I have any problems with my other Adobe software. Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Distiller and InDesign all seem to be working flawlessly. Not sure where to turn to.

  • How can I save a CYMK PSD file as a PDF in CS5?

I am able to make the file in CS4 on another computer I use (PC).  However when I try to save a CYMK PSD file as a PDF in Photoshop CS5 I don't see the option in the drop down menu?  Any ideas?  Here are some of the file details

    PSD
    8 bits/channel

For some reason when I started my computer this morning and went to take a screen grab of my intent the option was there.  Could it be because I had to install Adobe Acrobat Pro?  I guess that would more than likely be a obvious thing-?
For some reason when I was given Adobe Master Suite at work Acrobat didn't come with.
    Thanks for your assistance.

  • How to open/save heaps of PSDs-only with previews for LR?

I have the following troublesome LR/PS scenario to deal with:
Many of my old PSD files were not saved with max. comp. previews, and thus refuse to import in LR (a very annoying "feature"!) Hence, I need to create an Action or Script in PS CS2 which will:
    1. open ONLY my PSD files in all relevant folders and subfolders
    2. i.e., it must ignore all DNG, NEF and JPG files
    3. and it must save out the PSDs again without any alterations to embedded profiles (I have enabled the save-preview in the Prefs, which horribly bloats many of my already-huge PSD files)
It seems like a trivial problem, which a simple Action could solve -- but I am unable to make my Action open only PSD files, as the Open command wrecks the Action. Yes, I tried if the Image Processor could do this, too, but was unable to make that work as needed. I had the bizarre idea of using Lightroom to globally rename the extensions of all JPGs to, say, XXX, and the DNGs to YYY, etc, to make PS become temporarily oblivious to them -- but it appears that the Rename function in LR is quite unwilling to rename extensions and/or put any other characters after the extension.
Any bright ideas from you wise folks? :-)

actually now I have a problem with catching Save Dialog event...

  • How to save thumbnails of lost files?

I have several hundred thumbnails of pictures that have been deleted by mistake.
The original files are no longer on the disk, yet I can view the thumbnails (e.g., 1280 x 960 images),
and in most cases I can enlarge them somewhat in Library,
but I cannot view them in the Develop area, because I get an error message that says, "the file foo.jpg is offline or missing."
These pictures are several years old and of great sentimental value.
Is there any way to save thumbnails as regular pictures on the disk, so that I can Develop them and print them?
    Thanks,
    Tim

    Sean,
GREAT!   I was able to recover all of the lost files.

  • CS5 Can't see thumbnails of .PSD's in windows

I just bought a new computer with Windows 7 and upgraded to CS5. In previous versions of PhootShop I was able to see thumbnails of .psd files in windows. Now all I get is a PhotoShop icon. Does anyone know if there's a setting that can be changed to generate thumbnails? Help woud be greatly appreciated.

There are no "unsupported registry hacks" that actually work with Windows 7 x64 as far as I know.  People often post misinformation because they don't really understand the limitations and they extrapolate that things that work for one build of Windows will work for another.  And up through Vista x64 it was possible to run the 32 bit Explorer, but that's been closed off in Windows 7 x64.  Now a codec MUST be a 64 bit build.
I have been using the first package John noted above (FastPictureViewer codec pack) for quite some time, and I like it.  Notably it provides raw file thumbnails as well as PSD thumbnails.

  • Thumbnails of psd images sometimes do not update after edit

After scanning a bunch of negatives I decided to add the images to iPhoto in the psd format, which I wanted to keep. In iPhoto I have one roll for each film roll. I have iPhoto preferences set so that I edit in PSE. On some rolls after I edit and go to the iPhoto window and then single click on the thumbnail, the thumbnail changes to the edited version, as I would expect. However on other rolls when I repeat this, the thumbnail doesn't change to the edited version. When I double click I do get the last edited version of the image. (Also true if I edit in the Main Window.)
In PSE file saving preferences I have: On First Save= Save Over Current File. Also Max PSD file compaibility = Always.
Anyone have any idea as to what is going on. Thanks,
    Owen

How are you editing those psd files? With Photoshop? If so then here's the correct way to use PS with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 6 the Saving File preferences should be configured: "On First Save: Save Over Current File". Also I suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds

  • Creation of previews/thumbnails of PSD files not working in v3.0.1

I'm using Aperture 3.0.1, PS 4 to edit photographs.
My workflow will be the usual, Photo > Edit with Adobe PS, in my Aperture browser thumbnails/previews will be created for the PS file.
When I save my work in PS, the thumbnails and previews in Aperture are not being updated properly, show horizontal magenta/cyan lines, noise, clearly some of the layers are not being processed, some layers are not being resized to the right preview format, it's a complete mess.
I tried to delete/update previews, no difference.
It's an absolute shame, this worked perfectly in Aperture 2.1 and is absolutely necessary in my workflow. I'm seriously thinking to go back to 2.1.
Anyone with suggestions to get this working? Thanks

Having some similar problems and unfortunately some different ones as well...
I would love to know any tips you might have in identifying the "faulty" PSD files that Aperture 3 cannot deal with or more like the the PSD files that FAULTY Aperture cannot deal with (they worked fine in 2.1.4, Preview, iPhoto, etc).
I ask because the problem I have is that as soon as I hit one file that never finishes generating a thumbnail for, then I am done since everything else just queues up behind it and I can't diagnose anything else. As I said in an earlier post, HOW HARD CAN IT BE TO INCLUDE USEFUL DIAGNOSTIC INFO IN THE "ACTIVITY WINDOW", so that we could tell which images are being "processed" (or more importantly not being processed).

  • Windows thumbnail for PSD files

    Hi everyone,
Until a few days ago, PSD files never did have an icon in Windows Explorer. But now I have this :
(I pixelated the file names so this is normal.)
What is not normal, or at least, what I don't understand, is how the file thumbnail was created. It doesn't appear on all files, and disappears (reverts to the PSD icon such as the one at the top of this image) when I save the file. As I don't constantly monitor the desktop, I can't tell when the thumbnail is generated, but it can take hours, or never come back by itself.
So I wondered, what does generate the thumbnail, and if so, how can I enable imemdiate thumbnail generation ?
    Configuration :
    Asus G51Vx - Intel C2D T7500, nVidia GTX 260, 8GB RAM
    Windows 7 x64 Business
    Adobe CS5
Thanks in advance for your answers, any help is appreciated.

    > So I wondered, what does generate the thumbnail, and if so, how can I enable imemdiate thumbnail generation ?
I have seen this behavior when a 32 bit thumbnail provider is installed on a 64 bit system.  Thumbnails will only be generated when the folder is viewed from a 32 bit app--usually from a File Open dialog.
Since your system is 64 bit, there isn't a way to enable immediate generation by a 32 bit provider.  You'll need a 64 bit provider such as our PSD codec, which was mentioned already.  http://www.ardfry.com/psd-codec
I agree that a commercial codec is a difficult purchase if you are not a professional and your time is not valuable.  If you are a pro, then the codec should quickly pay for itself: it should be a straight forward business decision.

  • Incomplete "save" to Bridge from PSE

After editing a RAW picture in PSE and choosing "save as" to a JPEG and directing the save to the same folder as the original , it often shows up saved in Bridge as an incomplete pic.  Half of the pic is neon colored lines and the rest is the original picture.  Am i doing something wrong?

That did clear up an incomplete pic, but when I tried to save another one the same thing happened so I purged again the that one cleared up.  I shouldn't have to do this every time.  And yes, when I click on the incomplete pic it opens up perfectly in PSE for editing, it's just the thumbnail that won't complete.
