Save Tiff to jpeg

Help , I am using CS2 and the tiff files that I have been working on I want to convert to jpeg format , I select "save as" but  when the box opens I do not have an option to save as a jpeg all other relevent files seem to be there but no jpeg option, any one got any ideas

Thank you, my tiff file was a 16bit greyscale which I forgot to mention ,by changing the mode to RGB colour and then changing to 8bit as well allowed me to convert to a jpeg
so thank you very much for the info

  • How to save tiff as jpeg?

    Hi,
    I am trying to save a tiff image as a jpeg.
    I opened the tiff file in camera raw and made some adjustments, then opened it in Photoshop. There are no layers. Is there a way to save this as jpeg?
    Thank you

    Make sure you convert it to RGB or Grayscale, and 8 bit/channel (the modes that JPEG supports).

  • 'Save As' to JPEG format (or to TIFF)

    The 'Save As' command produces 20 different file format options to choose from. When 'saving as' to the default PSD format, the selection is obviously quick and easy. However I mostly 'save as' to JPEG format or TIFF format and it is awkward to make the JPEG or TIFF format selections each time.
    After doing 'Save As', I have been clicking on 'Format' and then typing 'j' or 'ti' to bring up JPEG or TIFF from the menu of 20 formats to speed up the selection a little bit as compared to scrolling through the Format menu.
    But it would be much easier to have a script that could bring up a modified version of the "Save As" dialogue box so that 'Save As' to JPEG format or 'Save As' to TIFF format could be executed very efficiently and without having to wade through the clutter of the 17 other file formats in the Format menu which I hardly ever use.
    I have done a fair amount of web searching, including on ps-scripts.com, but so far without finding a good solution to this. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Of course I have thought of creating an Action (with assigned keyboard shortcut) which saves to JPEG and another Action which saves to TIFF. However, the saved file then always ends up in one location and with the same file name, therefore often requiring the additional steps of renaming and moving the file.
    Batch processing of Actions (perhaps in conjunction with the Image Processor script) is perfect for batches, especially for large batches but I was hoping for something quick and easy for saving files individually.
    Thanks!
    Geoff
    P.S. I also tried finding a way of disabling all the 'Save As' file formats which I never use so that the 'Save As' format choices would be very few (i.e. 3 or 4 instead of 20) but have had no success there.

    It's been awhile since I played with the saveAs function.
    Pretty sure you have to type the file name in the save dialog
    Here is a function I created for work.
    I removed a lot of code from it that doesn’t pertain to this topic but the code should work
    This might help you with a little more understanding and show how you can hard code where to save without even bringing up a dialog box
    saveAsPNG( filelocation + filename )// usage
    function saveAsPNG( where ){
                   var tmpFile = File(where + '.png' );
                   var pngOpts = new ExportOptionsSaveForWeb;
                        pngOpts.format = SaveDocumentType.PNG
                   //     pngOpts.PNG8 = true;
                        pngOpts.transparency = true;
                   //     pngOpts.interlaced = false;
                        pngOpts.quality = 100;
                   app.activeDocument.exportDocument(tmpFile,ExportType.SAVEFORWEB,pngOpts);
              return true;

  • Cannot copy RAW images to Tiff or Jpeg in ACR

    Requesting immediate help if anyone available currently
    I've been using Photoshop CS6 for several years, never a problem at all. As soon as I bought Creative Cloud, I see many issues that cannot be resolved or are recurring.
    Again today as I go to copy files (images) from Adobe Camera Raw, to say a Tiff or a Jpeg, it appears to begin to copy as normal, then suddenly a box appears with all my copying
    file name/numbers, and it begins to eliminate one by one "Cannot Create File", failing the entire process to copy. I have never seen this until I began using Creative Cloud about a
    month ago.
    Can anyone help this Saturday evening as i am trying to complete a large project of images for others who expect them soon.?
    Thank you and I look forward to any advice soon,
    Mark Seibold, Artist-Astronomer, Portland Oregon

    Hi Rick
    Thanks for clarifying that. Yes, that term was my mistake, as I meant to write 'Save As"
    Another forum respondent just replied also, and he states as so many others do, that they do not use
    the Adobe Camera Raw app formerly with CS6, as they instead use Lightroom, so he apologized that he
    was not familiar with ACR but that I might have an old CS6 plug-in running that may not be completely
    compatible with the new Creative Cloud. I am not sure if this is the problem.
    What I would find as not really likely, is that the Creative Cloud engineers would go through all the trouble
    to redesign from the old CS6, then even assist us over the phone to help install it, but in oversight,
    leave us without a proper update to properly run Adobe Camera Raw. I also have never really understood the advantage of Lightroom. I'm sure that many must enjoy its efficiency, as I hear wedding photographers like it for huge batch processing of adjusting many images in synchronicity all at once. I would say that I do the same with ACR accessing it through Bridge, and I like ACR's quick and simple access for simple image adjustments and then say a small batch all synchronized, then finally to "Save As" for all selected to a final output as Tiff or Jpeg.
    As an astronomer that has just started learning to use Registax for night sky images, we also like the ACR adjustments and then to "Save As" eg. all Jpeg or all Tiff, to then photo-stitch large landscape and night sky panoramas with Microsoft ICE photo-stitching.
    Sorry for the long description here, but I hope to relate the total idea of what I am doing for the past years. I'll even attach an example >
    Thanks for your possible solution to my problem in "Saving As" in ACR,
    Mark

  • Raw File conversion to Tiff or Jpeg - best workflow for multiple files in Photo Shop Elements 11

    Hello, I am pretty new to shooting in raw and Photoshop Elements (11).  I have one big problem. Once I open Elements up and load the Raw files from the SD card it shows them all on the left side in Camera Raw. I make my contrast and color adjustments if needed, but then my problem starts: I do not really want to make any further adjustments in Elements itself, but in order to save my Raw files either as Tiff or Jpeg it seems like I need to - through clicking on the "open image". Now it only opens up that one particular photo. I did not manage to go simply back to Camera Raw to grab the next one as the screen just disappears. However, this one by one process is of course not the preferred way. I know that there is batch processing, but am also not sure if my adjustments that I did in Camera Raw will carry over as I am actually never saving anything and would like to avoid saving it before all manually as .dng files as it would just be another extra step. I hope I could make clear where I have problems and what I would like to achieve and hope you can help me. Many thanks in advance.
    Philip

    Simply select and edit each picture thumbnail from the left panel without clicking 'Done' or 'Open'.
    When you have edited each individual picture, select all your thumbnails - click on the first one - shift click on the last one. They should be all highlighted.
    Then simply click 'Done'.
    Your edits are saved in sidecar xmp files.
    If the thumbnails are not yet automatically updated, select the files, right click and choose 'Update thumbnail'.
    No need to use the editor with 'Open as' if you don't want any further edit or jpeg/tiff/psd/png version.
    Edit:
    I am not sure I have understood your question.
    The above process lets you convert and edit a batch of raw files without opening the editor.
    If you want to get jpeg or tiff files from the already edited raw files, either use the 'process multiple files' of the editor or the 'export' feature from the Organizer.
    The common raw workflow in Elements consists in converting small batches as explained above to take advantage of applying common edits or individual differences. In some cases you want to open the editor, in others not.
    That's at the input time.
    When you want to output pictures, the selection of picture is different for each purpose. You'll include pictures edited in different batches, some still in raw format, others already converted in version sets to jpeg/tiff... For each output purpose, those selected pictures can be sent to the destination folder in the required format withoug opening the editor at that stage either using 'process multiple files' or 'export'.

  • How to Convert all PSDs/TIFFs to JPEGs within subfolders (no "JPEG" folder)?

    Hello all, I come to you with what I hope is a fairly simple question and I would put it in scripting if needed but I'm not a scripter. I am sifting through many terabyte drives trying to track down all large image files and delete them after making an identically sized JPEG. I can create actions or use the File->script->Image Processor or some other method you suggest.
    There is a drive in question with hundreds of folders broken down by a client number and occasionally we'll design something as a psd. Well after each year we like to keep the images but do not need the multilayered psd/tiff files any longer. I would love something to grab every psd/tiff on the drive and convert it to jpg (and delete psd afterward but that I can do by hand). However both batch and image processor have drawbacks that don't allow me to do this. Can anyone help?
    Is there a way to make the Image Processor not save in a "JPEG" folder but in the true "same location" as it stipulates. I have bound it to a hotkey and am currently dragging in chunks at a time, then going into the folders, cutting/pasting, then deleting the jpeg folders, then deleting the psds... it's quite cumbersome.
    Ideally the files wouldn't go through the GUI so it would be speedier but not necessary. I can use Photoshop or Bridge CS3. I am finding the files by windows searching extensions so if possibly a droplet or something could allow this, I'd use that as well. Any tips are greatly appreciated.

    You might want to post this to the Photoshop Scripting Forum.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Losing metadata after TIFF to JPEG conversion in Image Processor

    When I use Image Processor to convert TIFF to JPEG for my images I am losing metadata information placed in the Properties section of my image file (PC). Is there a work-around for this so that the information isn't lost? Any idea why this is happening?

      Possibly the tiff is 16 bit.
    In Full Edit click Image à Mode à 8 Bit/channel
    Then save as jpeg.

  • Converting TIFF to JPEG with sips, then import into iPhoto problems

    I am cataloguing a box of slides and negatives for my family. The scanner generates huge TIFF files (on purpose), and I have an Applescript that then uses sips to copy them into low quality JPEG files using this command:
    do shell script ("sips -s format jpeg -s formatOptions low -s description " & "'" & "Original path: " & (POSIX path of an_image) & "'" & space & (POSIX path of an_image) & " --out " & new_file)
    where an_image is the source file, and new_file is the path and name of the converted image.
    This way, I can save the original file path as the image's description while shrinking the file size to speed up later importing into iPhoto. As part of the iPhoto import, that description from the metadata is placed in the on screen comment section for each image.
    This works fine to do the initial shrinking, but less than half of the resulting jpeg files can subsequently be imported into iPhoto. I get this error:
    The following file could not be imported. (The file is in an unrecognizable format.)
    And yet, Preview and Safari both open the files with no problems.
    Is there anything else I need to set when doing the conversion with sips to make it easier for iPhoto to recognize the converted files?
    I have over 1000 images, and anticipate a final total of about 2500 when I am done. These are images of myself and my siblings from the 1960s and 1970s, and my idea is to scan them all at high resolution, and use the converted, smaller files for iPhoto for keywording and Faces to get them organized, while retaining the paths to the original images. Any commentary is appreciated.

    I have uploaded one of the bad JPG files here:
    www.mrcodeboy.com/smith/Try.jpg
    I tried examining the metadata with exiftool, Image Events, and mdls, but there are a number of differences between the TIFF metadata and the JPEG metadata structures. I found no obvious differences, but this is a good idea, and I will continue to examine those closely for clues.
    *EDIT*
    I downloaded the bad JPEG above onto a different machine; it still does not import into iPhoto. However, by invoking sips on that file to convert it back to a TIFF file thusly:
    sips -s format tiff Try.jpg --out TryTF.tif
    it imported just fine. There has to be some sort of parameter that is NOT being addressed in the conversion from TIFF to JPEG that is somehow messing this up, yet is preserved when the file is re-written as a TIFF.

  • Can't open tiff or jpeg attachments.

    Using enterprise and 8703e.  Emails with tiff and jpeg files do not have the paper clip icon next to the message.  When you open the email, 1 attachment shows up but there is no option to open it.  Any hints would be appreciated.

    I'm sorry I don't use Chrome - but I would suggest you look at the security settings in Chrome, and see if there is a setting that may be preventing this. It also may relate to which programs are approved by Chrome as the default to deal with various file types, and what action to take. For examle, there should be settings which tell Chrome what to do with a *.pdf or *.xls or *docx file, whether to open it (and if so, what program to use), save it to disk, or "always ask". Anyone with Chrome want to help with specific settings?

  • File conversion - RAW or DNG to TIFF or JPEG

    Toshiba Satellite A70 running Win XP
    When I download a single RAW image file from my new Panasonic DMC-FZ30 to Elements 4, both a RAW and JPEG file appear. Why is this? Have the RAW file characteristics been altered automatically?
    After adjusting/editing the RAW file in Elements 4's RAW file editor (which appears whether I call for the quick or standard editor) I save it as a DNG file which is then added to the browser. I am unable to convert this file or the original RAW file to a TIFF or JPEG file for further editing in the standard editor as there is no "Save as" function in the drop down file menu.
    Am I missing something simple? or ...
    Help please!!!
    Ian

    Ian, the answer to the second portion of your query: after you've opened
    the image in the Raw Converter and made your adjustments, select the choice
    "Open" rather than "Save" at the bottom right. This takes you directly into
    the main Editor screen, where you can then save as JPEG, TIFF, and a variety
    of other formats. That Save in the RAW converter is a new feature in PE 4,
    and I ran into the same dilemma.
    Regarding the JPEG that comes along with the RAW, can you open it and see
    whether it's a full-size image? It could be a thumbnail. On the other
    hand, as Colin suggested, your camera may have a mode that creates an
    'embedded' JPEG when shooting in RAW. My Canon's do that.

  • Working with tiff and jpeg?

    1. ACR saves changes made to a raw image into the sidecar file, though what is it doing with the tiff or jpeg file that is changed? Where is this saved?
    2.what features do you not have if you open tiff or jpeg in ACR?  It seems to do everything the same.
    Thanks.

    The settings are saved as xmp metadata inside the jpeg/tiff. Note that while the settings are saved (and show up in Bridge), the settings are not actually applied until you actually process the images. So other 3rd party viewers won't see the changes. The embedded metadata is done safely and will not impact the file. The xmp metadata is also stored inside of DNG files as well. Only proprietary raw files force the use of sidecar files because ACR/Adobe treats them as read only files (it's not "safe" to write metadata in proprietary raw files since the formats are not documented).
    As to limitations, since jpeg/tiff files are already rendered into a color space and gamma, those files are not "linear" and you will be limited in the amount of highlight recovery that can be done. Additionally, since the rendered files already have a white point the white balance is somewhat limited as well. Also, there are limitations to the Lens Corrections because ACR can't apply lens correction built for raw files in jpeg/tiff files. You can still use the manual corrections...

  • Since updating Firefox as suggested, when I 'save as' a jpeg, it automatically finds the folder and it's always the wrong folder. How can I disable this feature and go back to the original mode where it remains in the folder I choose until I change it?

    For example, I saved a jpeg named 'picasso the guitarist'. I have folders titled A to Z. When I click 'save as' it might open the 'K' folder and I have to manually search the 'P' folder for 'Picasso' and save file. The most irritating thing is, when I 'save as' another jpeg of say 'pieter mother & child' it goes to another folder and does not remain in the 'P' folder, rather it goes to the 'X' folder or some other. This didn't happen before the last upgrade. Can I disable this new 'help' feature that is taking more time than the old version?

    Current Firefox versions remember the download directory based upon the URL, so if the URL changes then the default folder may be chosen if there hasn't been selected a download folder before for that server.

    Bug 536503 - Last downloaded-to directory should be remembered on a site-by-site basis
    Firefox 11 will have a workaround by providing a pref (browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite) to disable this feature.

  • Blurry smart objects in Photoshop Save for Web jpegs

    I create graphs, etc in Illustrator, place them as Smart Objects in a master Photoshop file before outputing Save for Web jpegs to use as PowerPoint slide backgrounds. Everything created in Illustrator or Photoshop through that process (Quality 80 or 100 with any of the SfW options on or off) Save for Webs are blurry when imported (at 100%) into PowerPoint. The only way I have been able to get anything crisp in PowerPoint was saving a Photoshop pdf. However, that was only the text created in Photoshop. The Illustrator Smart Object part was still blurry. Anyone have any idea on the best process to combine Photoshop and Illustrator files into one file for import into PowerPoint as a clean, crisp background? At this point I am open to all suggestions.

    There are parts that are being added in Photoshop, hence going from Illustrator through Photoshop as a Smart Object and then onto PowerPoint. If I wasn't 5 months down the line and just nearing deadline, I would recreate everything in Illustrator. Assuming that I have to continue at this point down the Illustrator through Photoshop line of working, how do you designate pngs or jpegs to be 220ppi. Jpegs have a 1-12 quality (and 12 is still blurry).
    Note regarding PowerPoint, I embed the full-page image into the background so others that are using this can't move (by accident or on purpose) the background.

    Simple as the title reads. I go to save as a jpeg and save it into a file and it never appears. Don't ever receive and error code or anything.

    Hey burn5860,
    Are you using the update version of Acrobat X?
    Have you tried saving any other PDF file to JPG?
    You might need to try 'Repair Acrobat Installation' from the Help menu.

  • In photoshop cc my saved files don't appear as thumbnails with the image, only with the generic tiff or jpeg icon

    how do i get actual thumbnail images in photoshop cc instead of generic tiff or jpeg icons??

    And what exactly? If you mean system thumbnails, then this has nothing to do with PS. You messed up your file associations then by installing a tool that usurped those associations and they no longer default to the Windows preview function.
