Save to Aperture, not iPhoto

Hi,
In Apple Mail when you have a series of photos in a message, one can easily select the save button. From here, one can select to save an individual photo, all photos, or easily import them into iPhoto. I always use the import into iphoto feature, and was wondering if there is anyway to have a import to aperture option?
Thank you,
TM

  • Images pixelated in Aperture, not iPhoto?

I have been importing all my images to Aperture from an external drive, and all is going well. My problems is some of my images are pixelated when viewing them in Aperture. When I open iPhoto though and view my Aperture library in iPhoto the images look normal. I have not imported them to iPhoto, I am just curious what is going on here? I am an Aperture beginner so I am lost as to why this is happening?  Hope that make sense. It is kind of hard to explain what is happening.
Thanks for any help in advance,

Re: Images pixelated in Aperture, not iPhoto.
I am having a similar problem but instead of iPhoto, its Bridge.  The same exact photo that I opened in
Aperture at 100% is quite pixelated yet when opened in Bridge, it is not.  I am using Aperture 3.2.2, on a
MacPro 2x3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon w/ 9GB Ram, running 10.6.8.  I thought it might have something to
do with the graphics card.  I have the ATI Radeon X1900 XT.  When I copied the same raw file to my 13" Mac
BookPro with a NVIDI GeForce 9400M Graphics card, the photo looked fine in Aperture.  Since Aperture is so graphics card intensive, is it possible that it needs a better graphics card?  If so, is there a better one I could install in my MacPro?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Screen Saver Preference Does Not Include iPhoto Albums

In addition to the second monitor problem discussed in other postings, I have also lost the ability to select iPhoto albums for my screen saver. The last entry in the Screen Saver list (in Preferences) is Aperture - not iPhoto albums. I am still using iPhoto 08 (v7.5.1). Any assistance is appreciated.

You could try moving the two com.apple.screensaverXXXXX.plist files from the Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences/ByHost folder to the desktop. You might as well move the com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist while you’re at it. Those files each will have a long string of randomly generated hexidecimal characters in the name before the .plist extension. The Screen Saver will generate new .plist files when you go to the Desktop & Screen Saver pane in System Preferences. I don’t think you need to restart after moving the files, but it couldn’t hurt.
Otherwise, you should continue working with Terence Devlin in the iPhoto forum. He is a genius with iPhoto related issues and has helped solve such problems for me previously.

  • How do I save my edits in iPhoto and/or Aperture?

I have edited an image in iPhoto and again in Aperture and can't find either. The original remains. I can find no "Save" option and assumed that it was automatic. If so, where does it go? Is there a "save as" option?

I can find no "Save" option and assumed that it was automatic. If so, where does it go? Is there a "save as" option?
Yes, Aperture and iPhoto will save the edited Version.
In Aperture the edited version will replace the previously edited version, unless you set the option "Create new versions when making adjustments" in the Aperture Preferences Advanced panel.
So the image you are seeing in iPhoto or Aperture will be your edited image.
Were you expecting to find an edited version outside the Aperture library in the Finder? If you want that, use the command "File > Export" to save an edited version of your image to a folder on the Desktop. Aperture does not actually create edited image file, unless you export a version.

  • I can not open my Aperture or Iphoto library

    Hello everyone,
I have the application Aperture where I edit pictures and can not seem to open it today when I try the message "To open this iPhoto library in Aperture, it first needs to be upgraded.Verify that you have iPhoto 9.4 or later. Then open the library in iPhoto to upgrade it." I upgraded Iphoto and then tryed to open Aperture while Iphoto was closed and I got the same message. Then I tried to open the Iphoto library and now the message "Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable.Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup. Aperture was not open at the time so I shut down then restarted my computer. The same Message Appered. Then I tried to rebuild the library by holding down the option and command key I tried all of the rebuilding options and when I went to rebuild it the same message opened in iphoto. Help me! I am a photographer with a website and need to get this up and running fast. I wanted to cunsult with Apple Support Communities before I make the trip out to the apple store.

Also when I went to finder to see it the library existed its now labled Iphoto library copy. I have a time capsule and restored it back by a day and it didn't work I still got the same message in aperture and Iphoto.

Okay, as I'm working through this I see that I have to add the "Admin" account to each file with "read only" permission.  Simply changing the "everyone" account access does nothing.
So how do I change the permissions settings in iPhoto or Aperture to give each exported file the desired permissions?  I cannot locate a setting in the iPhoto or Aperture applications.
Also, I added a password to the user account.  It did not change how files are output.

  • Aperture library in pages? not iPhoto

Im trying to import media (a photo) into my pages document. When I click on the media button, it only pulls up my old iphoto library, not current aperture library.
I swapped over to aperture from iphoto a couple of years ago, and imported my old iphoto library so aperture referances to these iphoto files.
In other apple apps, (such as mail) I can insert from aperture, the media shows both the old iphoto library and the newer aperture library. But not so in Pages.
I realise i can drag and drop into pages, but this is not as convinent, and anyway, It should work in pages properly.
Anyone else had this problem? Anyone solved it?
    Pages 5.0.1
    OSX 10.9.1

    Hi Bwh888,
I think, I had the same problem. To solve it look here
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24518931?tstart=0#24518931?tstart=0 or here
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/24494133#24494133
Aperture seams to remember that the library had been created by e.g. Aperture 3.4.1 even if you converted it to the actual version 3.5.1. Therefore it doesn't work in Pages 5.0.1.
    Good luck!

The above list show the current camera models supported by Adobe Camera Raw (plugin for PS CC) and Lightroom 5.3.
You will see that the Df Raw support was provided in the latest version of LR 5.3.   Support for the D300s was introduced in LR 2.5. (the NEF files are different.)
Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw can only be updated after the camera manufacturer has produced the camera and made it publicly available. If you are using an earlier version of Lightroom then that is your problem.

  • Aperture and iPhoto will not open

I installed the latest upgrade to the OS and now neither Aperture nor iPhoto will open.  What's up?

    Are your photos RAW?
We need some more clues to be able to see why Aperture and iPhoto are not opening.
To find out, if some preference setting in your user account is causing this, log into a different user account and try to launch aperture from there. (Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support)
If Aperture or iPhoto will not launch in a different user account, boot into Safe Mode and launch iPhoto in this mode. This will disable non-standard system extensions and advanced features of the graphics card. Aperture may not work in this mode, but iPhoto should. See:  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
To get more clues, open the Console.app before trying to launch iPhoto and check for iPhoto related, new diagnostic messages.  The Console.app is in the Utilities folder in applications.

  • How to get Aperture and iPhoto to use Pentax *ist DL RAW images natively

Using some techniques that I found in various places in these forums, I am going to give step-by-step instructions to get Aperture and iPhoto to recognize Pentax *ist DL RAW images natively.
Note: This worked for me using 10.4.6 with the latest iPhoto 06 and Aperture updates. I do NOT know if this will work on older versions of OS X, iPhoto, or Aperture.
Note: If you also use a Pentax *ist DS camera, these instructions will probably disable support for that particular device due to the modifications made to a system file. Only complete these instructions if you want to use a *ist DL camera.
** These instructions involve modifying system level files using a HEX editor. If you are not comfortable with this, do NOT attempt to do this or you could kill your system. Remember, BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP. These steps worked great for me but follow at your own risk!! **
    Ok, lets begin...
    1) Download this great patch by macintosh_tech
    http://idisk.mac.com/macintosh_tech-Public
This patch contains an updated raw.plist file which includes the RAW information for the *ist DL. This patch also contains an updated libRaw.dylib file and an updated Raw Presets file for Aperture.
** Do NOT copy the libRaw.dylib file from this patch to the folder listed in the patch Read_Me. This file did not work on my Intel-based Mac and crashed my system!!
I was able to modify my original libRaw.dylib file using a HEX editor to get it to work on my system. Instructions for this modification will follow.
    2) Open the .dmg of the patch in a Finder window
    3) Open a new finder window and browse to /System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/Frameworks/ImageIO.fra mework/Resources
*4) Backup the libRaw.dylib and Raw.plist files. Copy them to a safe location. For extra safety, you can just copy the whole Resources folder to a safe location (Make sure that you COPY it and dont MOVE it)*
    5) Right-click the libRaw.dylib file and select "Get Info". Look at the bottom of the info window and expand the "Ownership & Permissions" tab. In this section, expand the "Details" tab. If the lock icon is in the locked position, click it to unlock it. Change "Owner" to your user name. If requested, enter your system password at this point. Close the info window. This step lets you modify the libRaw.dylib file.
    6) Complete step 5 for the Raw.plist file.
    7) Copy the Raw.plist file from the "Place In System Folder" folder from the patch to the Resources folder. It will ask you if you wnt to overwrite the existing file. Click "Replace".
    8) Open a new finder window and browse to the /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Application Support/Aperture/ folder.
    * 9) Backup the "Raw Decode Presets.plist" file *
    10) Copy the "Raw Decode Presets.plist" file from the "Place In Home Directory" folder from the patch to the /Users/YOURUSERNAME/Library/Application Support/Aperture/ folder. Click "replace" if it asks you.
    11) Here's the tricky part. Download a HEX editor if you don't have one. I used 0xED. It is free and can be downloaded from
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/29521
    12) Open the libRaw.dylib file from the Resources folder in your HEX editor.
Note: This is your original libRaw.dylib file from your /System/Library/...../Resources/ folder, NOT the file from the patch.
Use the Find function and search for the string "Pentax *ist DS". Make sure you are using "Search Type: Text" (or equivilent in your editor) and that you use proper case. When you find this string, change the "S" in the "DS" to an "L". The string should now look like "Pentax *ist DL". Use the "Find Next" function to find the next instance of "Pentax *ist DS". Again, change the "S" to an "L". There should be two total instances that you need to change. Save the file and exit the editor.
    13) Open Disk Utility and repair permissions. This will set the raw.plist and libRaw.dylib files back to their original permissions.
    14) Reboot the system.
    15) You should now be able to view .PEF files natively in Aperture and iPhoto. I appologize in advance for any typos. Let me know how this works, as this is my first tutorial of this nature.
    Macbook 2.0   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It would appear that my last post was a moot point as the 10.4.7 update adds support for the *ist DL. It's nice to have it biult into the operating system now.

  • How to transfer photo albums created on the iPad to Aperture or iPhoto?

    Hi!
I have created a photo album on iOs 5 with selected pictures of the Photostream features, now I'd like to sync back this album to Aperture 3.2.2 or iPhoto on the Mac, so I can share them with Facebook or MobileMe.
Is there a way to do that?
    Thanks

Thanks Fred, but the only photos that appear in Apertureare the ons of the iPad photo roll, not the Photo Albums created from the Photostream.
Hence, once pictures are in an album which was created directly on the iPad, I do not see any option to sync it back to Aperture or iPhoto. As the pictures are from Photostream, I do not see options in the photo album to save them back to the photo roll.
I created the album on the go, because, I was travelling without my computer and thought it would be great to make on the iPad the picture selections of the photos that I had put on my computer but did not have time to classify. I did the selection of photos, put them all in an album. There is no way to share back these 300 pics to Facebook or Mobileme or Flickr directly from the iPad, so I want to bring them back to my MAcbookPro to do it, but i can't find a way to transfer the album to the computer, and now, I have to do the selection again... Seems like Time wasted...

  • Linking iPhoto and Aperture., Linking iPhoto and Aperture.

So, I have done all the obvious things and after multiple years with iPhoto, am struggling with Aperture, but I'll get there. I want to retain iPhoto as a browser for my family, and use Aperture primarily for adjustments. Now, I can open iPhoto files direct in Aperture, but how do I save the new version to iPhoto easily? I can export to desktop then drag in, but I had almost expected the new version that I am adjusting in Aperture to save direct to iPhoto.
Second question....I've seen comments about dragging new projects direct into iPhoto as either a file or say, slideshow. Is this just a drag and drop operation with both iPhoto and Aperture browsers open or is there a very elegant way I'm missing?

Now, I can open iPhoto files direct in Aperture, but how do I save the new version to iPhoto easily? I can export to desktop then drag in, but I had almost expected the new version that I am adjusting in Aperture to save direct to iPhoto.
You can't. Aperture is not an External Editor for iPhoto. It's a database, like iPhoto and is a complete replacement for iPhoto. Simply, the scenario you have is not part of the Aperture toolkit.
Aperture and iPhoto are entirely different applications that work in very different ways.
The only communication between the two is as follows:
Aperture is able to parse the iPhoto Library to allow it to import the contents while stacking the Originals and Modified versions, preserving metadata and so forth.
Aperture can share its Previews with the iLife apps, including iPhoto.
    That's it.
So, specifically, what interaction there is between the two is designed to facilitate migration from iPhoto to the more powerful app. After that, iPhoto has exactly the same relationship to the Aperture Library as, say, Pages or iMovie.
