Save to network

I have two movies (*.mov) files that I can load into & view in Quicktime (v7.7.4.1680.86) Pro from a CIFS shared disk.
However, I cannot write a combined movie, using "save as" to the same network drive/directory that I read it from -- oddly, I don't get an error message, the save box just goes away as if everyting has worked. But I get a dbox if I try to exit saying that I need to save changes.
I say "yes", save, and the dbox closes, QT closes, but the file has not been updated (e.g. date/time stamp is unchanged), when I open the file again, it is unchanged.
I have admin rights, this is not a permission issue.
I can write the mov file to the local c:\tmp directory, and then copy it, from Windows, back into the desired directory.
My desktop is Windows Ultimate 7x64, SP1+
The network is GigE
The shared disk is from Windows 2008 R2, via domain credentials (ownership is "administrators", of which my ID is a member).
My actual user ID has "full control" on the resulting file.
I have no issue saving into the directory in other apps, eg Excel, or MS' PhotoEd.exe from the same account (just did it).
This appears to be an application level issue, perhaps with QT using domain credentials in a domain shared storage.

Jim

  • HP M5035-MFP - How can I enable Fax-to-Email AND Save to Network Location?

    Good morning experts!
In our business, we currently use the fax-to-email functionality of the M5035 MFP to email incoming faxes to an email address, attached to which are a set of forwarders that proceed to send copies to everybody who needs one. We would also like to begin cataloguing the faxes we recieve on a file server on our network. My questions are therefore as follows:
Is it possible to enable both "Save to Network Location"  and the "Fax-to-Email" functions at once? If so:
How do I access the menu to adjust these settings? I can't seem to find it on the printer itself, and when I access the printer's IP through a web browser and go to the "Networking" tab, this is what I see:
     3. This is in a Windows Domain environment (domain controller is Server 2012 Standard). Are there any special provisions I should make server-side to ensure that the Save to Network Location functionality works smoothly? Any special permissions that need to be set?

  • Excel 2007 and 2010 slow to save to network drive with Windows 7

I know this issue has been passed around and I know that there are some fixes out there. I will lay out my issue and resources, what I've tried and the things I've noticed.
I have a mix of Server 2003 32bit, 64 bit and 2008 64 bit. The desktop/laptop environment is mainly XP (no issues saving with an XP machine), a few Win 7 computers and a dozen thin clients running off the 2008 TS. The slow saving issue happens with either
a Win 7 machine or a client terminal served into 2008. It takes 60 seconds or more to save or "save as" an excel file to a network drive. Same thing happens with any Office product. No issue saving to the local machine. If you log into either 7 or
TS with the domain admin account, the saving takes no time at all. Only as a domain user does it hang.
I have tried the SMB2 trick, the 981711 hotfix, turning off indexing and starting the webclient service. I am probably forgetting a trick or two that I've seen online from various people having the same issue. Point is though, the issue remains and besides
being utterly annoying, it is preventing me from rolling Windows 7 out to my employees. Please Help. Thank you in advance for any advice posted

    Hi,
Have you tried to create a new txt file with notepad to test this issue? If this issue also happens on .txt file, you should check your network.
And I suggest all users disable their anti-virus to see if the problem goes away.
There are other things to try if the problem is evident in all of the documents you open. When EXCEL is not running, make sure you delete all the temporary files that
EXCEL may have left lying around various folders in your system. Look for files that end with the TMP extension, or files that being with the tilde (~) character. If your file folders become very cluttered with these temporary files, it can slow EXCEL down
    immensely.
Another thing to try is to start EXCEL with the
/a switch on the command line. This causes it to load without also loading different startup files such as add-ins and macros. If this fixes the problem, then you can bet that the slowdown is caused by one of those add-ins or macros.
You might also rename the Normal.dot (or Normal.dotm) file; if it is corrupted then it can slow down response times. (Renaming the file causes Word to create a clean,
fresh, empty one the next time you start the program.)

  • InDesign 9.2 - Save to network location takes a long time.

Saving InDesign files to a network location seems to take an extremely long time during which I am unable to do anything else inside InDesign.
I know that this has been an issue for me for at least 2 weeks (since March 3, 2014, possibly earlier). I am not certain whether I have updated InDesign since then, but have consistently been experiencing this same problem.
Today I ran some tests (all using the same ~20MB file).
Save from InDesign to network location: 12 seconds
Save from InDesign to desktop: <2 seconds
Copy file (in Windows Explorer) from desktop to network: <2 seconds
Copy file from network to desktop: <2 seconds
I know I can work on the file locally and copy my saved versions out at the end of the day, but this was not necessary before, and I don't know what changed to make this take so much longer than it used to.
Current system configuration: InDesign 9.2 x64 running on a Win 7 Pro 64-bit with 16GB RAM and a Xeon 3.6GHz processor.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any ideas on how to resolve?
    Thanks!

Daylight savings time started on the 9th, right? I'm not sure about what a "server time sync problem" would be, but since my problem started before the DST switch, it doesn't seem that this could be the cause.
Also, since I am able to copy to and from the server outside of InDesign without any problems, doesn't this indicate the server and my computer are communicating just fine?
    Thank you for your assistance!

  • Can't save on network -"You do not have permission"

    Hello,
I am having a problem saving on the network of our 4 computer network system in our office. All computers are Macs, and all are on our own private network. We have set up file sharing on all 4 computers, and we have set the "everyone" permissions to read and write. In addition, we have loaded all users on all computers and given all users read and write permission to the public folder on all computers.
The problem is this. We can access the files that are in the Public folder from all the computers. However, once we access the file from the host computer on another computer-the file comes over "read only". I have tried using Text Edit files and Microsoft Word files, and I am getting the same result. We are able to open the file and physically edit it, however the edited version can not be saved back in the Public folder. We get an error message telling us that we do not have permission to save the file in the folder.
We just created the network yesterday, and in addition we added a Time Capsule.

We have done that. The Public folders on all computers are set with "everyone" at read and write access. In addition, every user has been added with file permissions set at read and write access.
As an example, we backed up a Quickbooks file this morning to one of the computers Public files. When you put the file in on the host computer, the file under the "get info" tab is listed as read and write access for every single user. However, once you pull the file off of the public folder from another computer within our network, the file is listed as read only for every single user.

  • Save on Network path not possible

    Hello,
I download a Adobe Reader file and want to save it on a network path, but I get a error message "Data media full or data media for temp files full". I can save the file on a local partition and copy the file to the network path without problems. The network partition has enough space. With other pdf-reader, I don't have a problem.
    Please help me.

    Hi,
    >>On logon, drive aren't conncted, a reboot doesn't fix the problem, a logoff and logon fix the problem
Usually, for group policy drive mapping to work, we need to log on twice continuously to apply the settings. Otherwise, we can try to enable the follow policy setting:
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Logon\  Always wait for the network at computer startup and logon
    >>net use * \\DOMAIN\DFS-SHARE
    >>-> Network path not found
When we can't map the drive, if we try to access the share folder from the File Explorer, will we be able to access the folder? Besides, what's operating systems of the computers? If they are Windows 7, we can try to install the following hotfix to see if
    it helps.
You cannot access a DFS share through a mapped network drive on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2

  • Image Capture can't save to Network Server

I have a Canon MX860 connected via wireless to my network. I'm running 10.6.6 on the mac. When I scan an image, Image Capture only allows to save to the local hard drive. It shows my Network Server (in the Scan To | Other ... dialog box), but it's grayed out, so I can't select it to save to. Is there a way to save to a network drive?

I am having this same problem when I try to upload photos from my camera. To add to the mystery, Image Capture will allow me to import from a camera and save to my NAS using my MacBook Pro, but not with my iMac - even though both are running the latest OS X. Has anyone figured out why this happens? I spent an hour on the phone with Apple tech support and they couldn't figure it out.

  • File save to networked drive takes a long time

I have been putting up with a real slowness with saving files in DW CS4. The save of a file is to a local network drive (H: drive).  I can use other apps like a text editor and saving a file to the same drive is pretty near instant.  But when I save a .cfm file in DW to the same drive it will often take 30 sec to up to 5 minutes...all of which is unacceptible for me.  It's not every file either that is taking the same delay in time to save.  It doesn't seem related to file length either.  I have a file just now that is 47 lines of CF code, I saved it and it took about 3 or 4 minutes.
What is going on?  Is this DW doing some funcky syntax checking or web standards checking or is it our network issue?  If this is a configuration issue I'd sure like to know how to fix this. It's extremely annoying as I forget my train of thought by the time the file has saved.
    All suggestions welcomed!

Well I probably should have checked around here some more. Just talked to someone in our IT dept. and they believe (unproven theory) that it is likely our network configuration and design. However if you have a few things to try to eliminate any other possibilities I'd like to hear them.

  • Cannot Save to network with CS3 PSv10.0.1 Extended

    Hello all,
I hope that someone can help me. I have three PC's that have a problem saving files to a Gigabit NAS. All three started having this problem this morning. It has been working like a champ for 3 months. Open a picture in PS and try saving the pic to another format on the network drive. PC 1 I get " Could not save as \\path\filename because of a a program error. PC2 I get " Could not save as \\path\filename because of a a disk error. PC 3 I get " Could not save as \\path\filename because the file could not be found. Now I created a new Volume on the NAS and I can now save to that new Volume. I can read from existing files on the NAS and save in every other CS3 app. Funky. I can save the PS file locally and on other PC shared network folders. I did the 3 finger salute for prefs and did the font CMAP \ Base thing that was suggested. I changed the memory allocation. Removed mapping and remapped. Virus and spyware free Any ideas?

    Bob,
Sorry for the late responce...psicon.dll does not exist on any of the PC's and the NAS. Two of the PC's were upgraded from CS2 to CS3. One was a clean XP and CS3 install.

  • Save Dialog - network drives

    Hi,
For some time I have had an issues using the Adobe "Save as" Dialog in Photoshop CS3.  If I switch to use this dialog the "save" button is greyed out when I am trying to save to a network drive (a ReadyNAS box).  If I change to the OS dialog it is not greyed out and the save works fine.  Is this a feature or a bug or incorrect configuration?  Not least does it happen to anyone else?

I'm not seeing that behavior with Photoshop CS3.  I just tried it on a Vista x64 test system.
Photoshop in general does not like you to use network drives.  They really want you to save the file locally, then copy it to/from network resources yourself.  The thinking seems to be that if you work from a share and keep your master files there, the chance of you losing your work is MUCH greater than if you're saving to a hard drive.  That said, I've never had a problem saving directly to a share.
Have you tried pressing the button anyway?
Do you have permissions to write files to the folder you're pointing to?

  • A way to save to network share

How can i add a network share as an option to safe my documents?
I use a apple script to mount a share belonging to the current user (smb://server/folder/username).
I see it mounted if i go Go -> Computer and can read/write files.
If i make a file in Teksteditor (or any other program) and hit command+s i don't have a option to save it in that folder.

Once you navigate to the folder, you can command-option drag it to your desktop to create an alias. Then, all you have to do is double-click on the alias to to mount the drive and go right to that directory. That should work in the file dialog too.
The only thing I'm not sure about is the sidebar. You can try it there. I am worried that because the Finder is always running it could keep the volume mounted if it is in the sidebar. That would prevent the automounter from disconnecting the server if you aren't using it. But you can try it there and see how it works. If not, just keep it somewhere else that is easily accessible.

  • Can't save opened network file

Here is what happened to our lower school lab which got 17 Mac Minis.
When students opened files from a file server, worked on those files and tried to save, they got error message saying the file could not be saved because the file could not be found. So what they had to do was to Save As a local file and then copy it to the file server to replace the one sitting over there.
This has happened to the programs Pages and HyperStudio so far. Not sure if this is a networking or operating system problem.
We are running 10.6.7. And the file server is Windows 2008 R2.
    Thanks much in advance!

  • Can't save across network

I'm having a problem with a G4 running 10.4.11. I cannot save any documents across the network. I can save if I save to the desktop and then drag it into a folder on the sharepoint but not if I save directly to the sharepoint. I'm using an ACL so that I can stop users deleting folders. Users have full read and write access they just can't delete. It doesn't matter whether the documents are Word or TextEdit.
Anyone else had a problem like this?

Don't save directly on servers and don't open directly from servers.

  • Can't save if network connection is dropped by server

Lab is running 9.2.2 on Imacs and using a 10.4.3 server setup with MacManger. My problem is that occasionally the imacs will loose their connection to the server which in turn the user is unable to save their work anywhere. Is there something I can do so that if in the middle of what they are working on they lose their connection to the server they can still save.
I have them set to regular finder in mac manager, I have all the offline settings turned on. I have even gone so far as to turn the finder to restricted so that I can designate a folder on the startup disk for their use yet still no luck. Any help would be great.

Several things you should investigate: 1. Network switches that have spanning tree set ON, it seems Appletalk prefers this OFF. 2. Check TCP/IP settings in server and workstations for MTU setting. On my network I set it lower than the default 1500. 3. Check on server to make sure you do not have an auto disconnect set for idle users that might be so short they get disconnected if they take a long time before a save. 4. Hardware! It might not be a server software issue at all, as mentioned in first 3 items.
