Saved in PDF change to OCR?

Having saved a paper in PDF is it possible to change the format to OCR
or does the paper have to be scanned again in OCR?

Yeah. It's a bit spendy but it does a lot more than just OCR.
If you don't need any of the rest of the fluff, you can try Abbyy FineReader. It's a dedicated OCR application and in most peoples opinion does a better job at it than Acrobat.

Try setting the scale to 98% or thereabout. Or if your printer can print borderless on letter sized paper set it up for that before selecting Save to PDF.

  • How do you change the default save as directory when saving a PDF file to your hard drive?

This is the on-line help instructions on this site:
Downloading a PDF file to your hard drive
You can download a PDF file to the hard drive from a web page's link. Downloading PDF files doesn't require the ActiveX plug-in file to be installed. (If you want to open and view the PDF file after downloading it, you must have Acrobat, Adobe Reader, or Acrobat Reader installed.)
To download a PDF file from a link:
    1. Right-click the link to a PDF file, and then choose Save Target As from the pop-up menu.
    2. In the Save As dialog box, select a location on your hard drive, and then click Save.
My issue:  I want to save several pdf files (from the Adobe Reader in my browser) one at a time and each time it defaults the save as directory to the desktop and I have to go looking for the directory I last saved a pdf file in.  I got lots of directories and I wish I could change the default setting for the save as directory.  Just a minor thing but irritating as other programs usually will allow you to switch the default save as directory to one of your choosing.

There is not a way to set the default location from all the forums i searched in the last couple days.

  • What is the best PDF to word OCR editor?

What is the best PDF to Word OCR editor for Mac?

"Best easy" could be a different answer for everyone.
I'd suggest starting with the basic editing capabilities in iPhoto.  It's already on your Mac.
If that doesn't meet your needs then you should probably consider Photoshop Elements, Graphic Converter or GIMP.
If you need even more "editing power" then consider Pixelmator.  Maybe even Aperture.  Aperture's basic editing capabilities are pretty powerful, and there are many great plugins that add more capabilities.
You don't see Adobe Photoshop in this list for a reason ... that is Adobe's recent change making all its professional apps available only by subscription (called the Adobe Creative Cloud).   Photoshop was always an expensive product, but the subscription fee makes it outrageously expensive - $240/year forever just for the one app.  And if you subscribe and use Adobe's cloud storage and then quit the plan you lose everything you may have saved in their cloud storage service.  "Buyer beware!"

  • I saved a PDF doc in adobe and then added text to the form. But every time I try an email it it only

I saved a PDF doc in adobe and then added text to the form. But every time I try an email it it only sends the original form without text. Once I've changed a doc in Adobe, how can I save it so that I'm able to use it with added text and notes? Also, I'm using a new iPad.

If you are using those apps or websites, they are likely viewing the PDF using iOS' built in PDF previewing, which will not show annotations and markup to the PDF. We have informed Apple of this issue, but do not have any insight into whether or when they will fix it.
Regarding the qustion about importing pictures, Adobe Reader does not provide any capabilities to import pictures into a PDF. To do this, you'll need to use Acrobat, available on your desktop computer.

  • Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File Save.

I am using Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and I was using Adobe Reader version 9. In the past, I've always been able to print to file using the File -> Print dialogue but all of a sudden it stopped working. I read somewhere that installing the latest version of Adobe Reader (version 11) would remove the old printer, so I did so. It took me about an hour on version 11 to even find the pdf print to file option, but I am getting the same message. For what it's worth, when I try print to file from Microsoft Word, I have no problem. I have no idea why things changed all of a sudden, but does anyone have any idea how I can get this working again?

I checked with Adobe.  No luck.
Allow me to clarify my problem:
I have Adobe Reader XI. I also use a Mac--imac and a MacBook Pro.   My adobe was updated on 12/24.  Prior to that point, I could open my print dialogue box and there was a PDF tab on the bottom left.  In the drop down menu there were many choices, including but not limited to Open in PDF Preview, Print PDF, Save PDF, email PDF.  If I selected one page of 30 pages from a document saved in Adobe, I could extract just that one page and save it or email it, without having to send the entire document.   After the update, when I open a PDF file using ADOBE READER XI, and then open the print dialogue box, and follow those same steps, I get the message "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save."   My question is why is this feature now unavailable and is there a way to fix it?
The answer I got from Adobe was that Adobe never had this function, so it must have been via my print or preview programs..which are apple.  Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thank you.

  • Saving a pdf when dynamically build by a servlet

    Hi,
How is it possible to initialize the "File name" field when saving a pdf content ?
I'm generating reports in a pdf format with a servlet. This way, the servlet is called by a Url and the result is displayed directly in the browser.
Now, if I click on the save button, the opened window suggest the url (http://....) as file name.
Is it possible to send a default file name that is not trhe url ?

I was interested in your question, since we have a similar application where I work, and every PDF always defaults to the name of the servlet when attempting to save it.
I don't believe it would be possible to change that. The PDF viewer (Acrobat in my case) doesn't know or care whether the content is dynamically generated or a static .pdf file, it just knows that the browser went to a certain site and retrieved a file for it to open. So it appears to me that the decision of what default name to give the file is made at the browser/viewer level rather than by the servlet. I could be wrong, of course--I'd be glad to see any other suggestions.

  • Photoshop pdfs change canvas size when being viewed in Acrobat

Hi, I am an issue when with saving photoshop pdfs from photoshop cc. They look good when they are in photoshop but when I save them to a pdf and then try to view them in acrobat the page size changes. Usually it defaults to 8.5 by 11 regardless of the size I set up in Photoshop. Does any one know why this might be? I am using Photoshop cc and Acrobat 11 pro. I've seen this same problem happen to several of my clients as well.

How are you determining the page size in Acrobat? Please post a screenshot. If you have the word scaled up in your filename, you may have to do a view >> pixel aspect ratio >> square
IN acrobat dod a Commadn R to show rulers, is your file 8.5" x 11". This actually sound like a view settings problem in acorn bat, btiu not sure

  • How do I convert .pdf into searchable OCR using Adobe Acrobat Capture 3.0?

How do I convert .pdf into searchable OCR using Adobe Acrobat
    Capture 3.0?
Our division is digitizing it's files, and we've been using
    Adobe Acrobat 5.0 (2). We've 'scanned-in' several hundred
documents, but they have been saved as .pdf files (which are
currently not 'searchable', as they are only scanned images).
We just received the Adobe Acrobat Capture 3.0 program, and
we were told that we would be able to scan-in any new documents and
save them both as .pdf and OCR documents (Optical Character
Recognition). Therefore, we were told, we would be able to search
through the body of the document, using OCR, and not just through
the document filename, as we had been doing before.
HOWEVER, we don't know how to use this new OCRing program.
Also, we don't know how to convert the .pdf documents which we've
already scanned into OCR recognizable documents.
Is someone able to assist us here in this forum?
Merci beaucoup / Shokran jazilan / Thank you very much!

  • Resizing Multiple Page PDF file For OCR

On my Quad-Core Intel Xeon Mac with OSX 10.8.5, I am using either Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Professional 10  to assemble PDF documents from a significant number of legacy page and map images (tiff). Unfortunately, it intreprets the tiff files to create a document that's about 36.7" by 50.06" in page size. Unfortunately, this size is too large to run through the OCR. I have tried print to a pdf on both Acrobat Professional 9 and Acrobat Professional 10. When I attempt to it tells me I can't save to a pdf from print. Neither the tiffs nor PDFs that I made from them are password protected.
The suggested solutions, which I have found, do not solve my problem. Needless to say, simply printing them at a reduced size does not solve the problem of not being able to to run them through the OCR. Also, I have numerous pages, which makes resizing them individually in Photoshop simply too time consuming as a solution. Finally, neither I nor the company I work for have the money for third-party software that costs very much, over 80 to 100 dollars simply to solve this single problem.
How can I scale down the page size of either a multipage PDF file or as a batch of individual files within either Acrobat Professional 9 or 10 so I can run them through the optical character reader (OCR)?
Alternatively, is there software (Photoshop?) that I can use to batch resize the tiff files?

    Bill@VT asked:
"Is the problem the size or the resolution? You are saying it is too large
to run through OCR, but I am not clear what the "large" refers to."
Being 36.07 inches by 50.06 inches, the image file it is too large in page size (inches) to run through the OCR. When I tried to OCR it, I get the following error message:
"Acrobat could not perform recognition (OCR) on this page because:
This page is larger than the maximum page size of 45 inches by 45 inches"
    Also asked:
    1. "When you say you tried to print, was that to the Adobe PDF printer?
Yes, that was to the Adobe PDF printer.
    2. "Did you set the printer properties to compress the file to a smaller size?"
No, I did not set the printer to compress the file in order to make the file size smaller in terms of bytes.
    3. "Have you tried printing the PDF you created to a new PDF using the shrink to fit option?"
Yes, I set the printer to creat a new PDF using the shrink to fit option in order to create a file that was smaller in terms of page size (inches) instead of file size (bytes). When I did it, I received an error message that stated:
"Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead choose File >Save."

  • Gaps in-between  livepaint shapes when saving to PDF

Im using CS6 and when saving to PDF my live paint objects have a slight gap inbetween the shapes in the live paint object. They do not appeare in the illustrator file or when saved as jpeg, png, etc only PDFs. I have been using Illustrator for a couple years now and this has not happened in previous versions I've worked with (CS3, 4, and 5)
    Thanks

The thin lines around the rings are an artifact in pdf preview. Thi si the saem problem  http://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/thin-white-dark-lines-stitching.html
You may be able get rid of them by changing your acrobat settings such as turn off smooth line art.

  • Saving a PDF crops to artwork and not the artboard

I have read a few posts on the web regarding this issue and was wondering if anybody here has a solution.
Since upgrading to CC, when saving our PDFs they now crop to the boundaries of the artwork and not to the artbord like in previous versions. I work in a PDF enviroment and we have a program that relies heavily on XMP data - one of which is the X and Y co-ordinates of the artwork in relation to the top-left corner of the artboard, however now, when artwork goes outside of the artboard or doesn't fill the artboard, the resulting PDF crops to the artwork thus changing the X and Y co-ordinates of where artwork is positioned on the page.
Is this a bug that is likely to be fixed or has a feature changed that I don't know about.

This is in Illustrator CC Version 17. It is fine when you open them back in Illustrator.  I have also noticed that from Illustrator if you do a 'Save As', select PDF, then select one of the PDF presets (I use 'Press Quality) the resulting PDF when opened in Reader displays how I want it, with the artwork as it was positioned on the Illustrator artboard (not cropped). If I then open in Illustrator again, make a change to the artwork, and select 'Save' (not 'Save As') when opened back in Reader the file is cropped again.

  • Hyperlink in PDF changed

the Rev is adobe reader x 10.1.4,
in the company internal website, after I downloaded some  PDF files ,the hyperlinks indise the files are all pointed to my PC disk, why not the website address like before?

    the process was:
1.At the first times,I open the PDF files in the company websites online,
it was ok, what the hyperlink pointed was another website address which
    located a PDF file.
2.After I saved some PDF file which I opened online to my local disk ,
someday, when I wanted to open a hyperlink from a PDF file online ,it can't
be realized ,like what I say at the beginning.
    my question is :
why it changed, normally, the PDF embeded in the website can't be changed
    with anything.
why did the hyperlink change, when I opened the PDF file ?

signature drop down menu greyed out. I believe it is because I saved the pdf document after placing a signature.  I'm using Adobe Acrobat Pro 9

Do you mean the drop-down list that shows up when you right-click on the signature (in the Signature Panel or signature field)?
I do not think that just saving a PDF with no changes would result in that unless you somehow flattened the PDF.
Can you see the signature in the Signature Panel? Can you expand ([+] at left) the signature? Does the Signature Panel provide info for this signature? Is the signature validated? If "yes" then is the signature status Valid?
It could be that when you saved the file you somehow flattened the signature, so that now you have only signature appearance in the PDF but not a real signature field which contains all signature properties. If the Signature Panel does not contain your signature (enpty if your signature was the only one) then this is the most likely cause.
