Saved music not playing

I have some songs in a zip folder that I got from a artist via e-mail.  I saved the zip folder to my desktop when I downloaded the album.  I clicked on the song & it appears in itunes.  when I go & play the song again in itunes it has a "!" saying "it could not be used because the original file could not be found".  How do you save the songs permanentlly?

I'm new to this area of discusstion. LOL  What is extracted the files?  I jusy simply open itunes & try to play 'em but the won't. (They will in folder)
I also have another song that I download from one of my friends but this 1 song gives me the same message as the other songs on the same CD will play fine.  Why?

Yes, the tracks were purchased in the iTunes store. I'm sure that DRM is the culprit. Seems like an obvious answer now that I think about it.
    Thanks for the help.

  • Music Not Played Recently

In an effort to make the iPhone truly randomly shuffle music (I hear the same tracks multiple times per day even though I have shuffle turned on) I created a "Smart" Playlist called "Music Not Played Recently".
This supposedly Smart Playlist contains only one rule as follows:
"Last Played is not in the last 14 days"
There are about 1200 tracks on my iPhone but I still hear the same tracks multiple times per day so this playlist does not work. (I thought perhaps I had a few duplicate tracks but no there is only one version of each track on the iPhone and in my collection)
In iTunes the playlist seems to work fine and I can see tracks drop out of the list as they are played.
    Question is:
Do Smart Playlists such as the above work on the iPhone?
    If not, why not?
If so, what am I doing wrong that it works in iTunes but not on the iPhone?

    anyone?

  • Purchased Music Not Playing on iPod but on iTunes

Before I start, I have had this problem before (6 months ago) and it resolved itself through some unknown fix (with the help of a Apple Genius Bar who had no idea what worked). The purchased songs - mine and others who use my computer - play fine in iTunes, and play from the iPod on a PowerBook, and plays purchased music loaded from a PowerBook - but will NOT play purchased songs when sync'd to my Windows laptop (I know. . .). I have restored, deauthorized, reauthorized, restored on PowerBook and then again on Window laptop. . . Still NO music. As it does for everyone else, it plays burned music. . . I am stumped. I am open to anything short of incantations. It does seem to have started soon after iTunes 7 was loaded. . .

I gave up with the glitch and got another iPod. . .

  • Purchased videos and music not playing on ipod

i purchased some music and videos, while using my wifes powerbook g4, loaded them onto my ipod (which i had setup using my pc) now i see the music and videos and when i try playing them the music shows up then goes to the next song. the videos just go to a black screen.
now i have loaded my cd's onto my wifes powerbook and have been able to play them on my ipod no problem. just the purchased music/videos from itunes, is not playing
    what did i do wrong.

Did you update the firmware on the iPod? Supposibly if fixes a few bugs.
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
If you didn't then try that. Believe me your problem is not with not using that CD as I never even popped the disk in my CD drive untill after I had updated my iPod as the software was outdated before it arrived at my house.

  • Why will music not play on my iPhone?

None of my music is playing on iTunes from my phone.  It works on my computer, but only about 4 songs will play on my phone.  I have tried restarting my phone and syncing it to the computer and the music will still not work.  Does anyone know how to fix this?

My problem was that the voice tracks on my iTunes files AND TuneIn Radio were at extremely low volume, while the background tracks were OK. Raising the volume to max made the voice tracks barely audible, but then the rest was garbled. This was the first time I played music since upgrading to iOS 6 (iPhone 4 (CDMA)). Just to do something, I went to Settings/Music and toggled a few of the ON-OFF settings, e.g., Volume Limit, EQ, etc. When I went back to play music, all was well. IN ADDITION, the sound quality and R-L separation seem much improved. I suspect a reset would have accomplished the same.(?)
I have not seen any reports of any iOS 6 changes in audio decoding, but it seems like there are.
    Anybody have a clue?

  • Music not playing in iTunes after iOS5/Itunes 10.5 updates.

    Hi,
I recently updated both my iTunes to 10.5 and iPod touch 4g to iOS 5.  I updated on my laptop (which i am on now, and have the issue with).  The laptop is running 10.6.8, and has no music on the hard drive.  I plug my iPod into the laptop to use the lap top speakers and play the music through itunes.  I have never had a problem since updating.  Now half of my music is not playing from the computer, however it plays fine directly from the iPod speakers.  When I updated I erased all music on the iPod and started over.  Any ideas on what the problem is here?

  • Music not playing smoothly in iTunes

I recently updated my iTunes to the latest version and ever since then my music has been jerking and not playing smoothly. I've checked my computer's performance while iTunes and other applications have been open and all seems normal. I've run the setup file again and chosen "Repair", but nothing has changed.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    This version of iTunes 12.1:
iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)
seems to address the playback issues that some users have been reporting with the full 64-bit version (the installer here is the same architecture as most previous "64-bit" versions of iTunes, i.e., a 32-bit application with a 64-bit installer).  The "for older video cards" does not seem to fully define the scope of systems for which this alternative works better.

  • Music not playing back correctly

For some reason, Itunes began playing back incorrectly.  The music is fine but the vocals sound like they are in a hole.  Not sure why.  Did this before and I do not recall how I got it back to playing normal.  Help plz!

Every since the iOS 5 update, my music does not play correctly on my iPhone 4. I have tried all the fixes I have found, except to delete all my music from iTunes as well as my iPhone, and reimporting it all...are they kidding? I have thousands of songs from various sources, so that is not going to happen. When I heard about iOS 5.1, I hoped it would correct the issue, which it did, for about an hour or so. I will just cease to use my multitasking smart phone to play music and revert to my oldschool music player. I pause in wondering whether or not I should hold my breath on Apple coming to the rescue for its dedicated users. Oh yeah, some of the songs that do not play correctly or at all were purchased from iTunes on my iPhone 4, so this issue is not just related to songs imported from CDs.

  • Help! Music not "playing" in Itunes

So I updated to the newest version of iTunes (7.3.2) today and upgraded my iPhone to 1.1.1.
Now, any music in my iTunes library will not play. The top of the screen shows the song title and artists name/album, and the run time...but nothing happens. I hit play...nothing. I try clicking randomly along the track...nothing. My volume is up (I can load up Youtube and listen with no issues. As many times as I hit Play/Pause, it never moves. My Apple TV works fine as does my iPhone. Anyone know why?

Searched and found the answer...for those curious...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1178079&tstart=0
    Finally, someone figured it out!
    Basically,
Start Menu>Control Panel>(at this point, I just typed "Quicktime" into the search menu)QuickTime, then click the Audio tab and in that tab, the "Select Audio Playback and Recording Devices" button. A small window popped up and said some sort of driver enhancement was causing problems, would I like to stop it? Click Yes.
Try iTunes again--mine finally works now!

  • Music not playing in slideshows

I need help with getting the music to play in my slideshow, its not playing at all. My music is in .mp3 or .m4a format and neither will play. I cant get them to work at all. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

    Bazmikter,
You also may want to post your questions in more detail (include the steps you have taken) in the iMovie forum. This forum is a general iMac forum, while someone here may know the answer you increase your chances by posting in the forum for the app you are having troubles with.

  • Music not playing in music app on IPAD 2

My iPad 2 is just not playing music in the music app. I can click play, it says it is playing but the bar doesnt move to indicate playback and there is no sound. I've tried closing the app and restarting the device.  Does anyone have any ideas?

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • Music not playing-protected files?

Music I have purchased from the iTunes store is not playing on my iTunes or my iPod. I checked, it's in the appropriate folder, but while all the working songs are mp3's and mp4's the non-playing music are m4p, MPEG-4 Audio File (Protected). Is there any way to open them and make them work, or do I have to re-purchase them?

try deauthorizing your computer, then reauthorizing it.

  • Music not playing. Corrupted files?

Ok so my library exists on an unjournaled external drive. I got another one to accommodate my video collection and left the iTunes library on the original HDD. After a few days of HDD maintenance (longest being defragmenting, which I did more than once in the time frame) on all 3 of my drives all data was in great shape. Later I ran into an error, my eDrive would mount and unmount constantly and I couldn't eject the drives. I proceeded to shut my computer down. The new HDD (without the eDrive) successfully ejected upon shut down, the second remained completely on, spinning and everything. Normally the drives power off when ejected and then I hit the power switch. I reluctantly turned it off. When I rebooted I ran a check for corrupted data, one unimportant image file was corrupted. Not bad. Later I found a 1.8GB (ish) game would not open and asked to be reinstalled. I did so and lost my character data, oh well. Now I find that chunks of my iTunes library (no podcasts, just music) are not playing. Those chunks I would consider localized as they remain in the albums. When playing through, iTunes will simply skip the tracks and go on to the next playable one. I reveal the file in the Finder and attempt to open it in Quicktime and it is not a file that Quicktime understands (-2048). So what is here? Even after syncing the files are still on my iPod, should I delete them from iTunes and use Senuti to get them back? Anything is welcome.
Bonus points to anyone who can tell me if there's a way to prevent iTunes from automatically syncing my iPod on connection. An example of what I mean is I hold a key as iTunes launches to prevent the sync.
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Thank you very much!
And to anyone else, I've found that some corrupted files have made it to my iPod. It just skips them and continues. I have yet to find out if it is growing, and if it is I have some paranoia theories.
    1. Modern Mac Virus (But the last Mac virus would of been released before iTunes it's been so long, it couldn't be)
    2. iTunes corrupts songs that are not purchased from the iTMS
    3. The RIAA has a virus that spreads to computers without copy protected music
I doubt my defragmenting harmed it. Luckily I can just get my music back, but it's a time consuming process and something I shouldn't have to do..
    Alex.

  • Iphoto 08 slideshow music not playing

After making a slideshow with iphoto I mixed some songs together using garageband, then exported the mixed songs to iTunes.
But when I choose that track in iTunes for my slideshow it doesn't play. I've tried a bunch of other songs they won't play either. I have done this before using iphoto 06 and didn't have any problems. But now with 08 I can't seem to get any music to play with my slideshow.
Which means no exporting to iDVD, no burning to a disk, no showing off to my friends.
Can anybody tell me what my problem is??

    soulmanbdr529:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Are you able to get non-Garageband mixed playlists to work in iPhoto's slideshows? If so then there's something GB is doing to the joined tracks that iPhoto doesn't like. For that you'd probably get more informed responses in the Garageband forums.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
