Saved PDF files have white spaces

When I save a Aperture created photobook as a pdf file the file has a white spaces on either side of each page. This white space shows up in Aperture as black when I create the book and is how I wish to see it. Is there a way to fix this in Aperture? Or can it be done outside of Aperture if needed? I have never edited a pdf file so I am unsure how to proceed there if that is my only option.
The reason I ask this is because I am looking to get a large quantity printed from a printing service that will provide a more attractive printing price when large quantities are ordered. Would a printing service be able to fill in the white with the black that I see in Aperture. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -Elliot

This could be as simple as selecting a borderless setting for the page size in the print book dialog prior to using the PDF drop down to save the book. It is hard to tell from your description. The printer and page size options for the real printer do affect the generated PDF file and white space issues are usually due to not having a borderless page size selected.

  • PS to PDF files getting white space after 127char

We've had an issue come up at our shop recently that's stumped us. We are spooling .PS and using Distiller to provide PDF with high quality EPS. We noticed the issue as we have a data element that is read by PDFTRON API and the service is seeing line breaks after 127char.   We open the same PDFs from Distiller in Illustrator and can view some random white space after the 127 char and at times beyond. The white space/line break are not present when copying the data element from the PDF into a text editor (Ultra Edit) and are also not showing in the .PS file???

I have problems saving pdf files in the web when I use Safari.  I don't have this problem with firefox.

do they save ok if Safari - Preferences - Security - Allow all other plug-ins is unchecked ?
If so, likely an adobe or other pdf plugin
Re-check the setting above & quit any browsers,
Look in this folder by triple-clicking the line below, then ctrl-clicking it & choosing Services - Open
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
remove anything with pdf in the filename & test again
Sometimes, plug-ins can be in the User Library folder :
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/

  • Have saved pdf files to creative cloud but ipad cannot see any files

I have saved pdf files from my Windows desktop to the Creative Cloud. They are visible there when accessed from my desktop. However when logging onto the Creative Cloud on either my iPad or iPhone it says there are "no documents to display".

I hope you're referring to the iWork program Pages for Macs since that is the forum you posted in. If you want to view Pages documents on your iPad, you'll also need to get Pages for iOS from the iTunes App Store. While you're doing that, also download the free iBooks app. There are other PDF readers, but I use iBooks.
You can use iTunes to sync documents between your Mac & your iPad. For PDFs you use File > Add to Library & they will appear under "Books." For Pages documents, you can use the File Sharing section of iTunes like in the screenshot below. You can also use iCloud.com to upload from your Mac but you will need to have your iPad connected to the internet to transfer the files from the cloud to the iPad.

  • Firefox 3 cannot download files with white space in the filename

When opening attachments in e-mail Firefox is unable to handle files with white space in the name. This is not the same as the white space file name truncation problem documented on this site (where file names with white space are truncated on saving.) The issue is that the browser will prompt to allow the file to be saved, but it will not prompt to open the file as an option. If I rename the file to remove white space then I do receive the "Open with..." dialog box. I verified that Firefox 2 did not have this problem and I can open attachments with white space in the file names just fine using that version of the browser (2.0.0.20).
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == Upgraded to version 3

When a user clicks on an attachment with spaces, the filename is truncated to the first whitespace. While IE, Chrome & Safari handle this, Firefox refuses to accept mime headers with unquoted filename parameters. According to Firefox's bugzilla/knowledgebase, Firefox's behavior is the correct behavior and it's a problem with most webservers or web applications. This problem can be easily corrected by surrounding the filename parameter with double quotes.
    Eg.
    Response.AddHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\"" + fileName + "\"");

  • Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files

Custom "Save as PDF" directly to a destination folder overwrites previously saved PDF files
As many of you will know, within Mac OSX it is possible to "print" any document off as a PDF.  You simply prepare your document then invoke the "Print" command and in the resulting print dialog box, click the "PDF" button in the bottom left corner which spills out a menu with various options including "Save as PDF..." as shown in the image below:
Selecting the last option "Edit Menu" permits users to add specific folders to which a PDF of the document will be saved.  As you will note from the image above, I have created a number of destinations such as "Bank Transfers" (for anything on screen in Safari I wish to preserve when using my on-line banking facility); "Bind" (which I use with an Automator workflow to consolidate many PDFs into one long document); "Officeworks" (for stuff I need to copy to a USB stick and have printed on on large plotters); "iPad" (for anything I need to put on my iPad through "iAnnotate" or "Documents") etc
The problem I have discovered is that with the introduction of Mountain Lion, PDFs that get saved directly to a destination folder get overwritten by later versions of PDFs that are produced from the same document.  This is fine when working on a single document that you may want to have the latest print of a document but not so when you produce many different PDFs from the same browser window in Safari as you surf through a number of websites etc.
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious versions were never over-written but rather preserved them with new versions having version number suffixes added e.g., untitled.pdf, followed by untitled1.pdf, untitled2.pdf, untitled3.pdf etc.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Does anyone have a solution to this problem? (other than a workaround like switching to Finder to rename or move files around)

The "Save to Web Receipts" bug existed for a long time - here's a MacOSXHints article offering a workaround in 2007.  Here's another reference to it in 2009.  Your contention that:
Prior to Mountain Lion, pervious [sic] versions were never over-written.
    is, I'm afraid, wrong.
Apple fixed (worked around) that bug by using a .pdfworkflow, as I indicated.  As I also indicated, this file can't be opened with Automator (or I just don't know how, which is no great surprise ).  But it's the answer to your problems.
You can either wait for Apple to fix what is, admittedly, a huge bug in their PDF Services feature, or you can find a way of implementing the same fix they did for your own folders.
I should be doing the same, as I use PDF Services regularly, but I'm too lazy and have had too little success with Automator in general to give it a shot.  You may have more success than I did.
    Good luck

  • Saving PDF files from illustrator

    Hi
Can anybody help we are having an issue with illustrator cs3 and cs4 when saving pdf files
as you can see this is the file in illustrator and the images butt togeather with a black line down the middle when we then save the pdf and we have tried different options it moves the image, the images are placed eps images. This is not file specific as we have tried other files/images.
    Can anybody help

Yes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.
This is what it looks like when using the inked files when they are rgb

  • Accessing saved PDF files

  • Saved .pdf files won't open

On MacBook Air running OSX Mavericks I've saved .pdf files from the Web and from documents I've scanned.  For many .pdf documents I get a dialog box that says, "Contact your computer or network administrator for assistance."
That's nice, but I'm the only one here.  These are important documents I’ve saved for a reason.  Any ideas how to get them open?

    Thanks for the suggestion.
After more poking around I discovered the Sharing & Permissions setting in the Get Info dialog box were set to No Access.  I have no idea how that happened, but next time I save a .pdf I'll find whether the setting is part of the Save As dialog or not.

  • Placed Illustrator PDF has extra white space

Illustrator  artwork saved as PDF, and placed on an InDesign page comes in with extra white space of around 1 1/3 mm on all
sides. I can't figure out what this unwanted white space is or how  to avoid it. Can someone please tell me how to avoid the  extra white space.

in which case - i can only apologise for the incorrect advice.
I've never had any problems with eps files - providing that the artwork is tidy.
And I've found loads of problems printing a placed pdf through a digital rip.
I'll leave it down to trial and error... and wish the best of luck.

  • How to set jpeg resolution when saving pdf file as jpeg

    Hi
I am running a stand-alone version of Framemaket 10.I try to convert a documentation with a lot of screenshots in it. Regardless of the settings on the Reference pages of the first document of the book, Framemaker converts all graphic files to *.gif, and these are downsized so much that they become illegible. I would like to have them converted to JPG, with little resolution loss, so they are still readable.
I think Robohelp is too expensive…

  • PDF Report adding white spaces

NEVER MIND.... Why is their no DEL option... Added fm in front of MONTH ('DD fmMONTH YY') and its fixed.
I have a report that goes to a PDF based on a RTF template. On the Dates, the XML Feed looks fine, but when it generates the PDF it is adding random white spaces in the date.
    XML Feed:
    <REPORT_DATE>31 AUGUST 09</REPORT_DATE>
    <ORDER_DATE>19 AUGUST 09</ORDER_DATE>
    PDF Returns:
    Dated 19 AUGUST 09
    31 AUGUST 10
so the year is seperated from the month. The SQL is a TO_CHAR(ORDER_DATE, 'DD MONTH YY') and so on...
    Any thoughts from anyone??? Please.....
