Saved Shipping Locations on iPhoto '11

One change I'm hoping is not permanent or you can undo -- when ordering prints in iPhoto '10 or earlier, you could have saved people/addresses you shipped them to. For parents with grandparents hungry for pics of the grandkids, this was a hugely useful convenience. For some reason, that is no longer possible and you have to enter an address each time now if it is different from your own. Please bring back this convenient address book!

1 - there never was an iPhoto '10 - it went 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, ;08, '09 and '11
2 - if you want to make a change in the way anything works then you need to contact Apple - iPhoto menu ==> provide iPhoto feedback

I am trying to back up all of my photos to a thumb drive. Is there a way to do this thru iphoto?

    Backing up the Library?
    Most Simple Back Up
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
    Slightly more complex:
Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically. Examples of such apps: Chronosync or DejaVu . But are many others. Search on MacUpdate

As Larry mentioned I use a different DAM (digital asset management) appliclation, Media Pro 1. For other possible DAM apps visit  The DAM Forum which is for professional photographers.  There the various apps are discussed along with workflows.  If nothing else you'll get some good information on managing digital "negatives".
Media Pro lets you manage the folder organization of your photos and write metadata, keywords, titles, and other metadata directly back to the files.  No matter what app you go with have a backup plan in place to keep current backups of your source photos on separate hard drives.

  • HT3986 Where are the individual files located in iphoto

Where are the individual files located in iphoto, thanks for your help

They are all stored in the iPhoto Library.  You would need to examine its contents to see them separately (outside of iPhoto).

  • Locating the iPhoto Library exclusively on an external or NAS HDD

I have been successful doing this with iTunes. Is it possible with iPhoto?
The ideal scenario would be locating the iPhoto library on an external NAS on my network which would be accessible via Mac (and yes, PC - sorry - not living in a perfect world, yet).
Thanks in advance and sorry to all if this is the 100th time this question has been asked.

Welcome to the Apple user to user assistance forums
No it is not the 100th time - more like 250th time
1- the iPhoto library must be on a Mac OS extended (journaled) format disk which can not be accessed by a PC
2 - iPhoto has no cross platform capability
3 - iPhoto does not support a multiuser environment so even with multiple Macs sharing a single library you have to be very careful not to cause problems
4 - You can (although there are significant drawbacks) have iPhoto reference the original photos on a NAS but the PC users will not see edits made by iPhoto and iPhoto will not reflect any changes made in the originals by another computer - this is possible but not recommended
5 - iPhoto is a relational database program using an SQL database and it must have total control of the content and structure of its database (as any relational data base must have)
6 - You need a profession DIgital Asset Management program (DAM) to do what you want effectively

  • Shipping Location for Dropship Order - how will supplier know?

    Hi
I was testing dropship flow. I have created a SO with source as external. Got Requisition created, which in turn created PO succesfully. Now, my question is, looking at this PO, how would my supplier know that it is a dropship PO? As of now, PO is showing SHIP_TO and BILL_TO addresses as my inventory organization ship_to, bill_to address.
In PO screen, shipments button, dropship tab, I can see my sales order reference. But, how would supplier know about the exact shipping location? I can not see any reference in PO screen on PO Detail report.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Sandeep
Thanks for your response. Now my next question, which method of PO transfer are we talking about here? If its about Printed copy of PO, then which in-built report of Oracle prints this one? I tried few in built reports, like Purchase Order detail etc, but none has this address. Only one report which has this address was Printed PO report. But that would not suit the purpose.
Sorry if I am asking something basic. Being new to this module, Just trying to understand how exactly business process will work here.
    Thanks & Regards

Be aware that you can only ship to Japan if you order the book with a credit card with a Japanese billing address.

  • Backing Up Saved GPS Locations

    Hello,
I went on a 3-month trip around Asia with my E72. Along the way, I had saved some GPS coordinates at certain landmarks.
Then, one day, my phone fell into the salty waters at a beach... the phone is pretty much useless now. However, the E72 can still syncronise with my PC.
ONE PROBLEM. The screen is broken. I can only see black when the phone is turned on. My question is ... is there a way to pull the saved GPS locations from Ovi Maps (from my phone) and save them on my computer? I currently use a Nokia E6 (nice upgrade from the E72), if that helps with solving this problem...
Any help is much appreciated. Thank you!
    Davies

    @E72_User
Unless device had been set to synchronise with Ovi on start up & shut down of Ovi Maps application unfortunately I think that this information is now lost to you unfortunately; in retrospect sending yourself an Email with .lmx data from time to time would have seemed a good idea.

  • How can I get my photos to save the GPS location for iPhoto?

Ive never had this kind of printing issue.

  • Location of iPhoto Folders

I'm having problems locating the apparent default folders to which iphotos are saved once they have been edited in Photoshop. any help?

The following are some tips on using Photoshop from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.  3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window".  That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu).  This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Concering the recent privacy hype, can one shut off Faces and locations in iPhoto?

    Hello again
Is it possible to shut of faces and locations completly off in iPhoto, (not suggesting apple is collecting this data )  lol

    Ptit wrote:
Your confusing free social networking sites with a device and application people PAID for?,  sounds wierd now that i think of it,
No, what's weird is how you manage to make that statement when I made no mention of social networking sites free or otherwise. So, frankly, I haven't a clue what you're talking about here.
I just looked more into this privacy law suite over at macrumors and found it astonishing and paralel to the way iPhoto does not allow you to shut off Faces, Locations,
Well that's that then, isn't. Macrumours is a pinnacle of legal opinion, after all. Now, I'm not a lawyer, so I won't even guess at the legalities of this matter, but my point still stands. If there's no data there then it cannot be stolen. Not using Faces and Places is precisely the same as turning them off.
Now there is so much inaccurate in this paragraph that it will take a few goes to correct it all:
I understand what you mean by portable devices possibly been the issue with keeping track of locations but Spotlight does more, it will scan everything on your hard drive, even the Finder's sidebar shows you the same photos inside your iphoto Application even if you deleted it,, the recent folder in the side bar does, i just looked., Ofcourse you can also advise people how to remove the side bar,
But what proof do you have that Apple also does not keep track of these photos, locations
Again, I'm not sure why you're talking about portable devices. I referred cameras and phones that record GPS information to the photo. That's all.
Spotlight does not scan "everything on your hard drive". For a start, it does not scan System Folders unless you specifically set it to and a lot of folks complain about that. Further, it doesn't even index the entire document in many cases, but limits itself to the first couple of thousand indexable terms. (Another source of complaint.)
Next: the Finder's sidebar shows you nothing but a couple of icons. Again, if you set it to, it will show you some saved searches.
Those saved searches can contain references to items that have been deleted because there is a lag between the deletion and the updating of the index. That should not be more than a few moments. If the lag is longer all you need to do is force a re-index, a process that takes a couple of moments.
And what makes you think that Apple are accessing your Spotlight indexes anyway? Have you a shred of proof?
I have no proof that Apple isn't stealing all the information on your hard drive. How on earth could I do that? How can you prove a negative? Let's not let paranoia get in the way of logic now.
And why would Apple bother? What possible benefit can they gain from knowing 'GrandMa' was photographed at 'the Southwest corner of Main St., Some Town, Somewhere'?
Because you know, most people don't name the people in their Libraries with their entire name, address etc., mostly they just call them 'Grandma' 'Mike' 'Karen'. So, what can they tell from accessing the Library? 'Karen' is cute, Mike is ugly and that's about it.
Another: why would Apple do this? What would be the reputational damage to the Apple brand if this was discovered?
Even more importantly, if you suspect that Apple is doing this, then it's incumbent on you to offer some proof. "They might be doing this" is not proof that they are. I can say that you might be an idiot, but it's not proof that you are
No, I do not work for Apple. I am not a shareholder, I have never received any payment of any kind from Apple. I benefit in no way from Apple's business practise or model. I'm not worried because I know the following:
You, Apple, the Government, Hackers, ne'er do wells nor anybody else cannot get the pin number to my Credit Card from this machine. You can take the machine and dig, scratch, poke at it any way you want. But you will not find that number on it for the simple reason that it just isn't on the machine.
Similarly, if you do not put the information into the machine, whether it be Face information or Place information, then it cannot be got out of it.
It really is that simple. Common sense.
EDIT: and of course, you don't have to use iPhoto, you know. It's not at all compulsory and there are many alternative.

  • Saving / Moving Libraries in iPhoto

I don't remember how, but when I first got my macbook (the latest white one) I managed to tell iphoto to save all my images to plug in external hard drive. I now have a portable external hard drive and I've been finding it a nightmare to tell iphoto to stop saving my photos to my external plug in hard drive, but to my portable one instead. It isn't working. I've tried the whole holding down Alt while opening iphoto after having dragged the iphoto library to my portable external hard drive, but that hasn't worked.
Can anyone please help as it's driving me crazy?!?!
Ooh, I should probably mention it's iphoto '09.
    Thanks,

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
You're going to need to explain things a little better.
Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
If you're running a Managed library, then it's the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing
If you're running a Referenced Library, then you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced and iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing.
    To choose between Libraries:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
    What's not working about this?

  • Changing location of Iphoto library

I am looking to change my Iphoto library to an external hard drive, as my 250GB internal drive is just not large enough, especially as I am now using itunes to watch movies and TV shows. Is this a simple operation? The help menu has instruction on changing location but I am worried this just refers to a different folder within the internal hard drive.
    Anyone got any suggestions

    It's very simple.
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Can't locate imported iPhoto files in Finder

I recently imported a series of pictures into iPhoto. However I can't locate these picture files on Finder..What happened was I had to fire up iPhoto app each time and right click to 'Show File'. It said the path was user/Pictures/iPhoto Library/Originals/2007/...
I want to locate these files on Finder, however, when I clicked on user directory user/Pictures/iPhoto Library I can't drill down further. It seems that 'Originals' folder is missing. When I show package contents though, this folder showed up. This is a frustrating experience for me because I can't upload the pictures to the web, or easily find them.
Does anyone has any idea if this is normal behavior or is there a way I can easily access the list of pictures I've imported without firing up the iPhoto? Appreciate any response. Thanks very much.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Does anyone has any idea if this is normal behavior or is there a way I can easily access the list of pictures I've imported without firing up the iPhoto
This is perfectly normal behaviour for v7 of iPhoto. The change was made to the format of the iPhoto library because many users were inadvertently corrupting their library by browsing through it with other software or making changes in it themselves. If you're willing to risk database corruption, you can restore the older functionality simply by right clicking on the iPhoto Library and choosing 'Show Package Contents'. Then simply make an alias to the folders you require and put that alias on the desktop or where ever you want it. Be aware though, that this is a hack and not supported by Apple.
However, better to use one of these:
10.5 users: If you use the extended Open or Attach dialogue (with Column View) you can scroll to the bottom of the Shortcuts and find the Media browser there. Select any pic you want from there.
Another way to access the files with iPhoto not running, is to create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Otherwise:
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
To upload to MySpace or any site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use THIS
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
