Why can’t we save tool settings? I want to have a few different rectangle tools on my tool bar that have different default settings. So for example I could select one that would just be a box outlined in red with no fill color, and another would be completely yellow with the fill at 50% opacity. That would be SO useful! Instead I have to change settings manually each time...

Do you have any issues with the display when your using the regular laptop screen? What type of cable connection are you using? Do you have another monitor that you can connect your laptop to?
Below is a document with some basic troubleshooting for the monitor. Under screen is discolored the document suggests pressing the auto button on the monitor. Does that have any effect or fix the issue?

How to clear all eventcombMT lockout tool settings?

We have an eventcombt user that cannot get any results returned when running the tool from their workstation after a name and Windows account change. It works for other accounts with the same security memberships.
We need to clear all the saved eventcmbmt settings out of a user's profile so all remembered settings and credentials are cleared as if the user is using the tool for the first time on a brand new PC
Are there settings stored in the registry and appdata?

You can clear the search using "Clear search". Registry is not the storing area (except explicit credentials). Not even the app data.
I believe cache is in DLL. Captured by Procmon.

Maybe there is another problem then.
The user is logged in as a different user and using Runas "different user" to run eventcombmt as a domain administrator user, selecting the built in search for account lockouts, then substituting those old event IDs that it puts in by default for
event 4740. Then entering the user ID we are checking for lockout in the text field.
When the user runs the query on his workstation, it finishes instantly and shows no results. I don't see any error displayed to see why it is not working.
I can run the same query using "runas administrator" for UAC prompt (add domain admin account as admin credentials) enter the same info and it runs the query fine for me on a different computer and the account I use has the same group memberships
as the account the other user used.
Does evencombmt log errors somewhere to tell you why a search fails to run?
Is there a more modern tool available that will show the same lockout information (display source of lockout, not just tell you the date and time the account was locked out)?

GConf: "saving configuration settings will not be possible"

Hello folks.
I'm new to Arch, but not new to Linux. This problem has me stumped.
I've just installed Gnome on top of a fresh Arch install, apart from Firefox, a few daemons (HAL, FAM), and some laptop related settings (cpufreq, pm-utils), there's nothing else on here at the minute. I've followed the instructions on the wiki, and I've Googled my heart out about this problem without a solution.
Gnome starts fine and appears to work okay, but it refuses to save certain settings, specifically in the Sessions tool (I'm trying to setup Compiz). When I start the GConf Editor tool, these errors appear in everything.log:

I've deleted my ~/.gnome* and ~/.gconf* directories and started again, and this error still appears.
Short of changing the permissions on /etc/gconf (which I presume is The Wrong Thing to do), I'm not sure how else to approach this problem.

When you update to Firefox 4 it will use your existing bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
Firefox 4 is currently scheduled to be released next week.

PSC 2510 - Wireless setup - "Error while saving the settings to the device."

While trying to setup my PSC 2510 to be wireless I get an error message "Error while saving the settings to the device.". This comes after selecting connecting Through Network, selecting printer device, selecting WEP, entering key, and clicking next.

ISSUE RESOLVED .. based on responce from PrintDoc to penn (refrence topic "C4385 Printer - Netgear DGN2000 - wireless setup".
PrintDoc responce helped me find my problem (to reset network settings on the printer to factory) even though diffrent printer.

I'm using a pc, (windows 8.1,) and I cannot get a thick and thin line with CS6. None of the brush tool settings have any effect, even in the preview. Is there a setting I need because I'm using a pc?

I'm using a pc, (windows 8.1,) and I cannot get a thick and thin line with CS6. I want to draw, but I cannot get any linework like I should. I also use Sketchbook Pro, and ToonBoom, and I get wonderful linework. But not with Photoshop.
None of the brush tool settings have any effect, even in the preview. Is there a setting I need because I'm using a pc and not a mac?

Share saved optimize settings?

Optimization settings include options unavailable in distiller settings ("Discard external cross references" is of special interest). The "PDF Optimizer" screen in Acrobat Pro X includes an option for saving optimizer settings. (To reach the screen, select File > Save As > Optimized PDF.) Is there a way to then share those settings with others? I have a team of 15 people who create their own PDFs, and I'd like them to all use the same optimization settings. Obviously I don't want to have to set up each user's settings individually.

Whether I save the custom settings to the "Users/[username]/AppData/Roaming/Adobe/Adobe PDF/Settings" from the PDF preferences or use Distiller to modify the settings and try to save (running distiller as administrator), I am unable to load a joboptions file.

In the last month or so, I have received the following message when trying to open videos on the web and even my local weather forecast:

I get it in Safari (6.0.5) as well as Firefox.
What does it mean?

This is not a new problem as evidenced by some web blogs going back three years.
It started when I disabled Java Script......the victim of a lot of cautionary items on its security issues.
Then odd things wouldn't play such as the hour-by-hour temperature display on a local TV station's site.
And occasional video links off reputable news sites. But not Youtube. Safari and Firefox are both afflicted.
I enabled Java, repaired disk permissions (which I do on a regural basis) plus a few other tricks I know.
Upgrades, etc., all up to date.
No luck.
I have had three I-Macs over 13 years and Apple Care for 12 of those years. Gawd how I miss 'em!
I'll try your suggestions.

Selection Tool settings

My selection tool settings got messed up and now I can't scale objects arbitrarily - but only by the transform tool/ resetting the W/H at the top toolbar. I've searched everywhere and can't find where I can readjust those settings. Someone help!

Whenever this happens (it happens ocassionally and it's so annoying) I just wipe my preferences.

I can allow pop-ups from certain sites in Tools/Settings, why then can I not also block pop-ups from certain sites since Firefox doesn't always manage to block them?

Whenever I visit, for instance, merriam-webster.com an ad from groupon invariably pops up in a new window.
OK, so Firefox does not manage to block it although I have this option checked in Tools/Settings/Content.
But why can I not enter the URL of the groupon ad and manually block it?
I can allow pop-ups from sites of my choice in Tools/Settings/Content, I think I should also be able to block sites?

Iphoto not saving slideshow settings

HELP! I am DESPERATE!!!!! I have been working on a 45 minute slideshow for my parents 50th wedding anniversary party ALL WEEK. Iphoto is NOT SAVING my settings for the transisions between photos or the time each slide plays for. It is happening at random. No one at Apple has been able to help me...as a matter of fact I thought I was going to really lose it for about the 10th TIME when the last guy I spoke to tonight told me that I needed to speak with an IAPP advisor as he could not help me only being a senior advisor. My questions is WHY THE HECK HAVE I NOT BEEN transferred to an IAPP advisor all week when I have been calling them repeatedly trying to get issue resolved. This was the only person who said I should speak to someone in IAPP. I now have only FRIDAY to get this resolved as the party is at my house on SATURDAY!!!!
I know other people have had some similiar problems (glitches) from searching the internet and yet the people I have been speaking with say they have never had someone call up with this problem.....????
Anyone else out there have this problem and find a way to fix it?
(BTW--they already had me go the route of trashing the psist file and some cache file among other things......)

Thank you for replying. My ranting was just out of utter fustration of literally sitting at a computer since Sunday redoing and redoing everything in order to have try and have a nice slideshow for my parents rather than just dumping a bunch of photos & music into a slideshow. It loses its punch when things don't fall into the proper place or transition right.....
2 things Apple had me do initially:
move a cache file and psist file out of library to desktop and then into my trash (I then did a secure empty trash)
senior advisor tried to have me duplicate the problem while he was accessing my computer---COULD NOT. He said unless I can duplicate for him he can't help me. He also said that he has never heard of anyone else complain of this & has never heard of anyone making a slideshow so big??? Really? It is 45 minutes with 375 pictures. While a little lengthy I find it hard to believe they are not used to anyone makng a slideshow this long.
Anyways later I called back when I felt I could duplicate issue. I spoke with another rep. He had me change ALL SLIDES from 5 seconds to 1 second and unclick default transition thinking that this could be causing the system to keep wanting to ovverride my manual individual settings if I had any slide less than 5 seconds or another transition. However he also was miffed by the "size" of my slideshow and said that Iphoto slideshow really wasn't meant for something of this size and suggested I use IMovie. While I had never used it I tried it. After spending all day getting the photos in IMovie and in same order I started editing the transitions and slide times....well this was no good because if I changed one thing it caused a ripple effect and changed stuff. Sooooooo I called Apple back and spoke with Senior advisor that told me that this is what Imovie does and I really should not use it for what I was trying to do ....he still felt iphoto slideshow was the way to go. So we went back to iphoto slideshow hoping that the couple of small changes the other advisor had me do had worked....no luck. I then decided to try and start fresh with NEW slideshow, new settings and break up my one big slideshow into smaller slideshows & then eventually dumpt into Imovie......No luck. With about 30 photos I noticed it wasn't saving my slide times again or now the speed of transitions. So the bottom line is that there is a GLITCH with iphoto and I have seem similiar complaints on these forums.
I greatly appreciate your suggestion of trying other apps and would definately do that if I had the time but alas the party is tomorrow and I have only today to get it resolved and redone.

Delete safari .plist file.
    Quit all applications.
    Option click the "Go" menu in the Finder menu bar.
    Select "Library" from the drop down.
    Library > Preferences > com.apple.Safari.plist
    Right click it and select "Move it to Trash".
    Restart.    Relaunch Safari.

Select Tool settings?

Is there a way to modify the select tool settings? In previous versions, the select tool would only select the box that held an image, not hte image itself, for that you used the direct select tool. For some reason in Version 5 the regular select tool also selects the image if you click on it directly. This drives me nuts when I go to move something and only drag the image past the clipping area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you get a "donut" coming up? This is called the content grabber and can be disabled by going View > Extras > Disable Content Grabber. If you don't get that and are selecting the content with a single clik something else is wrong but I highly suspect the donut...
P.S. InDesign CS5 is actually Version 7, Version 5 in CS3...

Windows hangs at "saving your settings"

I have an MSI 745 Ultra.
When I shutdown or restart WinXP,
it hangs forever at the "saving your settings" screen.
Mouse can move. But computer never restarts or shuts down.
I hate this because I have use the restart or power button on the case to continue... and when I boot Windows the next time, it has to scan all the drives... sometimes get some errors.
I installed Windows XP as normally... letting it use ACPI by default. ACPI is enabled in BIOS.
Please help me!

I am not sure that is correct. You can do an install of WinXP with APCI Enabled without having to hit F6. Mine installed correctly without it.
The problem is when people chance HAL after install do and then chance the HAL.

Problem saving Default settings - Need Help

Hello. New user to this forum.
I am running BB Desktop Software V. 7.1.0.41 (Bundle 42) on a Windows 7 64 bit "Ultimate" platform. I'm using a "domain" account (from Active Directory) and it has "Enterprise Administrator" rights.
When I start BB Desktop, I click on "Tools--> Desktop Options," and then I click the "Change" button to change the "Deffault File location" for saving backup files (it defaults to "MY Documents\BlackBerry\Backup"). I change it, save it, and it changes to the new directory location I specify. I then do my backup and sync operation, and exit the program.
However, when I restart the program for the next backup and sync, I find the the location has returned to the default location ("My Documents\BlackBerry\Backup") and not what I changed it to the previous session. I change it again, and it stays changed but only for the duration of that session, If I exit the program and return to it, it goes back to the default setting...
Is this the normal behvaior of the program? Are we not allowed to change the default backup location permanently? Or is something else stopping it from changing permanently? Perhaps a Local or domain policy setting (I dion't know if Blackberry Desktop Software is affected by these settings)...
Any help greately appreciated. It's just a pain to have to change the location every time I enter the program.

Hi All, this is my first post and question.
I have LR3 running on 2 PC's. I wanted to change a couple of the default settings. On one of the PC's, I made a couple of changes and saved them using, Develop-Set Default Settings. When I restarted LR3, these changes were saved and being used. On the other PC, I did the exact same thing and when I restarted LR3, the changes had not been saved. Any idea why this may have happened?
Is it possible that you are using a different body with your other PC. The Develop presets are camera dependant. That's the only thing that I can think of.

Also, I am wondering about watermarks used in LR3. On one of my PC's there is a watermarks called, A Charming Font. On the other PC, in LR3, that is not am option. I really like this watermark. Can I somehow add it to the one that does not have it?
I believe that you should find the watermark somewhere within the "Application Support (may be called something else on a PC)" folder for Lightroom. Im not sure where that would be on a PC though. Try searching on your OS (ctrl+F) for "A Charming Font."
