Saved URL vanishes when clearing History

When I type an URL, it gets saved in safari's address bar. Later when I type just the first letter of that page, I can see some suggestions based on my previous visits. But the moment I clear my history, I have to type that page's URL again. And it *****!

The suggestions in the address bar are drawn from the browser's history and bookmark list. The address bar itself only stores the currently loaded page's location and the text you've manually entered into it.

  • App tabs dissapearing when clearing history on shutdown

Hello all, the problem is that when I shut down firefox, I have it clear all history. It seems when I have the 'clear browsing history' box checked all of my app tabs disappear. Any workarounds?

Does Firefox create a file sessionstore.js in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] ?

This can be a problem with the files [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
You will have to redo App Tabs and Tab Groups after deleting sessionstore.js.

  • Can I exclude cookies to be cleared when clearing history?

I would like to save specific cookies when I clear my history. Is there a way to do that?

No, if you use Clear Recent History to clear cookies then all specified (time range) cookies will be removed.<br />
The only way to keep specific cookies is to do it manually or let all cookies expire if you close Firefox and set an exception for cookies that you want to keep.<br />
Do not remove the Site Preferences as that will remove all exceptions.

  • Firefox is slow when clearing history

The browser basically freezes for a good five to ten seconds after some moderate browsing in the past hour. I only have it to delete browsing and search history.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

How do I clear my history on the iPhone 5 when clear history is greyed out?

    Hi there bradkeithhyde,
You may want to try force closing all open apps and resetting the device as an initial troubleshooting step. Take a look at the articles below for more information.

  • Clearing history erases bookmark icons

Having upgraded to Mountain Lion, when clearing history all bookmark icons are removed now. I'm not sure why this is now and I hope this is a bug or mistake, because all the other versions of Safari did not function this way. Anyone else seeing this or a solution?

    Hello all:
This is a design issue....I suggest you all use the feedback function to complain (I do not like it either).
As a workaround, I now never clear history using the menu bar.  I clear history manually by clicking on bookmarks>history>all and then deleting.  This leaves the favicons alone.  There are also third party programs that will clear selected cache files (I use Cocktail) and not delete the favicons.

  • Clear history hangs in version 25

    When clearing history, hang occurs.
    OS: fedora 13
(no, the problem is not my outdated os)
    Everything worked great for years.

I have this problem, and it is most definitely NOT normal. It's fairly new, don't know which version it began with, but it's a real issue. I have OS X 10.6.8 on an iMac. I have FF 26, this has been happening for several versions now. I almost never can clear history, even just to empty the cache, without FF hanging. It happens whether I have a lot in history or almost nothing. Sometimes I get the non-functioning script message, sometimes not, but clicking Cancel Script or Continue makes no difference anyway. And when FF hangs, I have to Forcequit FF - which always shows up as not responding. And get this: ''when I Forcequit, it puts my computer to sleep!'' It all goes black and shuts down, but not off. Can't wake it with the keyboard or mouse - I have to press the power button and release quickly. This is bizarre, and no, I don't have any bugs or viruses. Mozilla introduced this glitch a while back and it's about time they dumped it.

  • When I open the "Save Page As" window, the drop-down box for the file name shows files that were saved long ago. This is not cleared by any "clear history" function that I can find. How do I clear this?

    # Question
When I open the "Save Page As" window, the drop-down box for the file name shows files that were saved long ago. This is not cleared by any "clear history" function that I can find. How do I clear this?

    Hello.
I believe this is a Windows related issue, since it's the windows Save File manager we're talking about here (right?). You should contact Microsoft for help on that one, I believe. You'd expect to be able to delete the entries by simply tapping ''Delete'' on your keyboard when they are focused (that's how it goes for deleting specific form autocomplete entries in Firefox), but I haven't tried that.
I'm sorry I can't be of more help.

  • Thumbnail adresses, and website icons are not being deleted when I clear history and cache, how do I delete these?

I am trying to delete the icons that websites use which are located in the user file of appdata/local/mozilla,
and the website adresses that are located at the bottom of the thumbnails when opening a new tab. clearing data deletes the actual thumbnails, however the adresses are still located below where the thumbnails would be. I have tried clearing history with everything checked, and all history selected to be cleared, and also deleted the cache and cookies. what can I do to delete these things? Thanks

Use these steps to remove saved (form) data from a drop down list:
#Click the (empty) input field on the web page to open the drop down list
#Highlight an entry in the drop down list
#Press the Delete key (on Mac: Shift+Delete) to remove it.

  • Firefox keeps randomly changing Clear History settings to also clear Saved Passwords.

I have "Clear history when Firefox closes" selected but the "Saved Passwords" option is unchecked.
After a couple of days the "Saved Passwords" option becomes automatically selected. I am certain that nobody is manually changing these settings but the change happens nevertheless.
This breaks my Sync and it drives me crazy. Any ideas how to fix this problem?

  • If Firefox is opened with a URL parameter, the parameter persists through attempts to clear history.

When Firefox is opened with a URL, the URL is a parameter in Firefox's command line and could present a potential privacy leak as it is not cleared by Clear Recent History.

In addition, right click on Firefox's launch icon, click "Properties", note the third line; the "COMMAND" entry which most likely reads "Firefox -u". The "-u" is what Anonymous is referring to as a parameter. It (-u) represents an instruction to Firefox to replace your destination URL with another destination that is not intended.
This may point to a virus in an applet, could be a porn site, whatever.
If a pop-up box asks for permission to download a file, DO NOT CLICK OK.
    Click "Cancel".
I did a cold boot out of instinct next, then get rid of that "-u". I cannot speak for the clear history but it sounds like a good idea, also. I made sure I had a BACKUP of my bookmarks as a precaution, then did what Anonymous suggested.
Another thought I only have one icon, so cannot vouch for it but you may need to remove the "-u" on each launch Firefox you have.
Also, do not be as blasé as I was, if the URL looks wrong, it probably is wrong. Go browse somewhere else.

  • Just updated to Firefox 7. Even though I have checked the appropriate boxes in the "Privacy" menu for clearing history and password when Firefox closes, all passwords and history are there next time I start Firefox.

I had this set up in previous versions of Firefox. After updating to 7, it no longer works. I went to "Tools" "Options" "Privacy" I checked "clear history when Firefox closes" I also went to settings and checked all the boxes. Then clicked OK. I closed Firefox, waited a few minutes, started it again, and all my history and passwords loaded on startup. Why?

I'm a little puzzled that your post shows Firefox 29.0.1 but you said you updated this week (Firefox 32.0 was released this week). ???
One of your settings is '''places.history.enabled''' = false, which could be a problem for saving history. I'm not sure how that could have gotten switched. Could you check here:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Privacy
Under "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history" make sure you have the settings you want.
Note: I think I have read that if Firefox is set to clear history at shutdown, then Firefox might not save any history during your session.
Can you find an Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop? If the Reset feature ran, your old data would be in that folder and we could discuss how to restore them.

  • I cannot access the internet, I tried to answer that said to go to settings, safari, tap clear history, cookies and cache, cut off, then on, but it did not work.  When I go to internet the screen is grey??? please help I am a new user!!

I cannot access the internet the screen is grey, I have tried by using the answer from someone but it does not work...I went to settings, tap safari, then clear the history, cookies, and cache, then turn off ipad.  When I did that twice, it did not work.  How long does it take for the clear history to work?  I am a brand new
user of the ipad2 and I am disappointed that this is happening already.

Have you been able to access the internet previously and now it's suddenly not working, or are you still trying to access the internet for the first time on your iPad?  Are you at home trying to connect through your home router?  If you are at home, did you put your home routers encryption code as your password?  The encryption code is what your iPad is looking for and it is usually found on the router and is typically a 13 digit combination of letters and numbers.  Let us know......

  • Why firefox 3.6 downloads all of the files again after restartarting the browser from a website if the "clear history when Firefox closed" is not Enabled?

We have a corporate website, we officially support FF3, FF4, IE8 and IE9. Our web site is quite big, so we really need browser caching, first time page load is around 15 seconds. With files in the cache getting new page is less than a second.
Everything works perfect except with FF3. With FF4, IE8, IE9 if we are on the website, clicking everywhere is fast, the page is in the cache. If we restart the browser, it is still fast, it loads files from the cache.
But with FF3 we have a problem. Every time we restart the browser, it is loading the files again from the server, instead of using the local cache (checked with Firebug). I can reproduce the problem anytime, it is the same with every FF3 instances. I double checked, the "clear history when Firefox closed" option is not enabled.
Could you advise please how to use the local cache either after browser restart?
    Thank you!
    Chris

Just read that the default memory storage on FF is set to 5 mbs. You can up that by clicking on tools, advanced and overriding the default and set it to 50 mbs (if you use lots of tabs) or 10 mbs (if you use just a few).
I open a blank tab and clear the cache periodically, while I am working. I can have several tabs open and watch videos on Youtube, by doing this. Have you cleared your cache?
Since I have an older computer, I've also used CCleaner for years. I use it often, but always before signing off. You can get it free...search for CCleaner, download from Pirifoam free. I didn't change any of the settings and it clears crap left behind from uninstalling programs, clears all browsers at once of: cookies, history, passwords, etc. I love it!
I had freezing, before using the "open blank tab, clear the cache" thing. Now I have no problems. Plus, as I said...you can change the default memory usage for FF and that should help too.
Hope this helps! Good luck! :)
