Savemail panic in sendmail
Hello everyone
Since last week I have been getting the following sendmail error again and again:
q6GEA0ib022095: Losing ./qfq6GEA0ib022095: savemail panic
q6GEA0ib022095: SYSERR(root): savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere
I have no mails in my queue and on my system there is no hosts.allow file under /etc in order to add the line "sendmail: ALL (or LOCAL)". I have also checked my aliases file and it contains the lines:
MAILER-DAEMON: postmaster
postmaster: root
Any ideas on what is going on here?
I am running: Solaris 10 10/09 s10x_u8wos_08a X86
Thanks in advance,
Dimitra

They start from Jun 21 and continue at this time.
It's very starnge because nothing was changed, any patch or software upgrade, simply they appear as above.
Anyone can help me find explanation and possibly solve this problem eliminating messages?
Thanks
VoxHi,
I think that this was the point Jay was trying to make. Sendmail is usually installed by default on Solaris based systems.
Chances are a program/script attempted to use the sendmail program to send an outgoing email and for some reason this caused an error which was reported in the logs.
You can send an email using this program using the following:
/usr/lib/sendmail <some address>
<Contents of email>
There doesn't have to be a sendmail daemon for sendmail to run as a program.
Either way, it isn't a problem with JES.
Cheers,
Shane. -
Sending mail to local local account name...

libimta.so 6.3-3.01 (built 20:10:10, Jul 12 2007; 32bit)
We are tying to send email on our mail server to a local username using the /usr/lib/sendmail -Am command. (We were trying to use "mailx" but we kept getting "savemail panic" error messages saying that postmaster couldn't be found.) Our objective is to get the output of our backups sent to a local account which is a username in messaging server.
We consistently get "user unknown" errors. I've tried Mail, mailx and the sendmail program to get the messages sent. Here is an example of a local delivery case. We get similar results if we send to "[email protected]".

I am guessing that this problem is related to another issue where I cannot create a user called "root" in the mail server user base. (maybe not, though).
Is there a way to use the local mail programs (that depend on sendmail) to send to a Sun Messaging Server account on that same machine?

Then run ./imsimta cnbuild;./imsimta restart

Sun Java Directory server 6.3.1
Hello,
Anyone with knowledge to configure mail aliases in LDAP especially in Sun java directory server 6.x? I have already created the container ou=aliases
The problem is i get the below error when I install LDAP client on a server:
+Apr 23 18:32:00 Server1 sendmail[10032]: [ID 801593 mail.crit] n3NHW0HC010032: SYSERR(root): ldap_init/ldap_bind failed to localhost in map aliases.ldap: Can't connect to the LDAP server+
I found that I dont have aliases not configured in LDAP, the mail host sits on a different server. Other than this my client works perfectly over SSL
Thanks in advance

SOrry but this looks to me like you have serveral problems. Most of them are Sendmail related. Maybe it would be a better idea to ask in a sendmail forum instead of a Directory server forum. Since you have not posted any configs I can not more than speculate. Here are my guesses:
Apr 29 11:58:21 server1 sendmail[3138]: [ID 801593 mail.info] n3TAwKaC003138: n3TAwKaD003138: return to sender: Host unknown (Name server: mailhost.xxxx.com: host not found)if mailhost.xxxx.com is an existing host then I guess you have a problem with DNS resolution. Are you able to resolve hosts other than those related to this case or infrastructure (eg. can you resolve www.google.com)? If not then you should have a look at /etc/resolv.conf. There shold be a series of nameserver lines followed by the IP-Addresses of the nameservers (Important: IPs . not names). Another source of error could be found in the "hosts:" line in /etc/nsswitch.conf (it ususally reads "hosts: files dns").
Apr 29 12:04:22 server1 sendmail[3219]: [ID 801593 mail.crit] n3TB4Muk003218: SYSERR(root): ldap_init/ldap_bind failed to localhost in map aliases.ldap: Can't connect to the LDAP serverNow this means your sendmail is trying to connect to an LDAP Directory on the same host to resolve aliases. If the port is correct you might find in the <instance_root>/logs/access file further details about what the sendmail server tried and why it failed. If there is no entry in the access log this would mean that there is no LDAP-Server listening on the port sendmail connects to. Fact is that somewhere you "told" sendmail to connect to the ldap server and it is failing to do so.
Apr 29 12:04:22 server1 sendmail[3219]: [ID 801593 mail.alert] n3TB4Muk003219: Losing ./qfn3TB4Muk003219: savemail panic
Apr 29 12:04:22 server1 sendmail[3219]: [ID 801593 mail.crit] n3TB4Muk003219: SYSERR(root): savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhereNow this errormessage is normal if alias resolution does not work. An errormessage would be generated which is sent by the user MAILER-DEAMON. In sendmail default config MAILER-DEAMON is an alias for postmaster which is again an alias for root. But if teher is no aliases there is no "account" MAILER-DEAMON. This errormessage will most likely disapear as soon as you resolved the alias issue.
So much for the errormessages. Unfortunately you are not very specific on your environment. I try to guess what I have understood and try to formulate queries which might help you to find the problem.
- There is a host A running solaris 10 and an Sun Directory Server 6.3.1
-- On what port is the server listening and what information can you get at its current configuration with an anonymous bind (eg. ldapsearch without username or password)
-- You have setup a suffix on this server and created an ou=aliases
-- Have you inserted the standard aliases (such as MAILER-DEAMON or postmaster)?
- There is a host B which is the mailhost.
-- B i trying to connect to localhost (so host B not A) to get informations from an LDAP. Is LDAP running on localhost yes or no? You are not clear on this topic.
-- what did you (or anyone else) do to get the server to obtain aliases from an LDAP (this is not standard config - You need to modify settings to do this)
-- it is definitely a good idea to define a global bunch of settings in confLDAP_DEFAULT_SPEC (especially the options -d -P -b -h should be set in your case most likely)
If these hints do not solve your problems I definitely recommend posting in an sendmail forum and read the sendmail documentation (eg. https://www.sendmail.org/doc/sendmail-current/cf/README). As far as I know LDAP in sendmail is pretty new in std sendmail and you have to expect that documentation on this topic is still poor.

System Hang, kernel panic.
Hello list,
Doing some independent research into an issue we are having here. We have 21 x4540s running 5.10 Generic_141445-09. They are used as NFSv4 servers to front-end servers. The x4540s that are used for mail (postfix+dovecot) periodically hang. The others do not.
Since they hang, it has been difficult to diagnose what the issue could be. We have "set pcplusmp:apic_panic_on_nmi=1" in /etc/system, and I try to issue "set generate_host_nmi = true" in ILOM, but it appears to be too dead to manage that.
The only symptoms we have in the logs are:
Jul 24 07:50:49 x4500-11.unix inetd[292]: [ID 702911 daemon.error] Unable to fork inetd_start method of instance svc:/network/nfs/rquota:default: Resource temporarily unavailable
Jul 24 07:51:09 x4500-11.unix last message repeated 1 time
Jul 24 07:51:15 x4500-11.unix sshd[343]: [ID 800047 auth.error] error: fork: Error 0
Jul 24 07:54:25 x4500-11.unix last message repeated 4 times
A few times I have had a working shell connected when it happened, still running top, which shows it is not out of memory, not even close. No process has gone wild (pretty much just nfsd running). It would appear that it can't start new processes, but not due to lack of memory. Eventually it grinds down to a halt, including console. If I try to run "reboot" (or even reboot -d) it tries to reboot, but fails (just hangs). ILOM reset /SYS will bring it all back again.
Currently, this happens 2-3 times a month. Funnily enough, always at night. What does run at night is a recursive zfs snapshot. It usually dies sometime after that. The process that always gets the first error is rquotad. But that could just be because it is constantly queried.
Not much to go on alas.
Then one day, we got a panic dump. Is it the same problem, or something unrelated? Hard to know, but IF it were to be related...

Can I use mdb to dump all the currently-used-stack memory, and collect that data to see if there is a leak? I could also double the stacksize and see if the period between trouble also doubles.
Any other suggestions which may help in locating the troubles we are seeing?SteveS,
Thanks for the reply. I have handed it off to the local support, and believe they have forward it to Oracle Japan. Possible, it goes through a lot of language translation, so it is a little like playing Telephone.
I was trying to decipher your ::cpuinfo -v information to see if I could determine if we were having this issue. But I am unsure what to look for in a non-healthy system.
This is the output I get

ENABLE As for "ps" we only have 42 procs, and threads the biggest process is "nfsd" (can use up to 1024, but hovers around 300). We are not hanging (or even considering the fork error) due to normal resource limits.
While waiting, I am poking around in the dump to see if we can find anything interesting. Last time, Telka managed to find out about the OpenOwner lock leaks, which was encouraging. -
Savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere
Hi folks...
When I run dmesg I see lots of sendmail errors that state "savemail: cannot save rejected email anywhere". I found a document at "http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-9-83988-1" that indicates the if I run "/usr/lib/sendmail root@localhost </etc/motd
" it will produce the cannot save messages.
The forum document indicates that this errors may have something to do with the hosts.deny hosts.allow files. But under the /etc there is only the symbolic link to the hosts file.
So can anyone advise me on if I have to create the hosts.allow and/or hosts.deny files what entries in either file will stop the cannot save error messages?
On our Solaris 10 O/S I couldn't find those other hosts.* files.
Thanks in adavnce

How can I fix this?sh__ wrote:It seems that the linker flags should include -lpthread.
Yes, thanks!
I had to add -lpthread to the linker flags to some of the Makefiles below obj.Linux.2.6.10-ARCH.i686. -
Mid 2010 Macbook Pro Keeps Restarting due to Kernel Panic. Ideas for how to fix?
So my Mid 2010 Macbook Pro keeps randomly restarting, and giving me a screen that says something like "your computer restarted due to a problem."
Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

Looks like it as a kernel panic, but I have no idea what this is. Seems to be no pattern for when it crashes. Used to do it maybe once a month and now this is the 5th time in two days.
Any idea what might be going on? Looked at past threads but nothing seemed to apply.

I have a 2010 macbook pro currently running 10.6.8 that has served me very well over the last 4 years, except in recent months it has been getting frequent kernel panics. Started every few weeks, now happens multiple times a day. It seems to happen more frequently when I'm doing something like playing a game which makes me think it might be related to the GPU or the computer overheating, but I can't find any specifics on how I'd go about troubleshooting from here. A typical report after a kernel panic is below:

You may be able to use gfxCardStatus 2.3 to switch to using the other GPU instead which should stop the frequent panics until you get the motherboard replaced or buy a new computer.
Of course don't dismiss the possibility that the software you have installed has installed extensions that are not compatible:
com.cisco.nke.ipsec 2.0.1
com.quark.driver.TetherBerry 1.0.0d6
com.parallels.kext.prl_vnic 7.0 14922.693916

com.parallels.kext.prl_usb_connect 7.0 14922.693916
Try running in Safe Mode to see if the panics stop. If they do, then you need to completely uninstall the software responsible for the above extensions: Cisco, Quark, and Parallels. -

Get kernel panic when I burn DVDs
when I burn several DVDs using the internal DVD burner on my 1.25 Ghz G4 running OS X 10.4.11, I am getting a kernel panic that tells me to reboot my computer. I'm using Toast Titanium 8 to burn with. Any ideas how to prevent this?
Here's the details:

Kernel Panic with 10.4.3, 10.4.4
I have a Quicksilver dual 1GHz G4 with 1.25GB of ram. It was ridiculously stable until the 10.4.3 update. With the 10.4.4 update, things got even worse. I now have so many kernel panics as to make the machine unusable.
I've run through the "Resolving Kernel Panics" page step-by-step... run DiskWarrior, run the machine with "plugs-out" (NO FireWire or USB devices plugged in), archive & installed, ran with each stick of ram individually, repaired permissions, zapped the PRAM, run "reset-nvram" and "reset-all" in Open Firmware.... nothing fixes it, nothing seems to be the culprit.
Crash log below. Can anyone help PLEASE?

Quicksilver G4 Mac OS X (10.4.4)Sorry, forgot to include that info. I ran the Apple Hardware Test and the TechTool Pro suite of hardware tests.... all passed. (And yes, I had pulled everything FireWire and USB except the Apple keyboard and mouse, which were plugged directly into the Mac.) In addition to the Open Firmware "reset-nvram" and "reset-all", I also hit the CUDA switch on the motherboard. The machine is still giving me kernel panics. The only thing I haven't done yet is pull the hard drives and clean-install onto a new drive. (I hope to do that tonight.)
What's interesting is that the dim-out "You have to restart your computer" screen is gone, and has been replaced by white-on-black text generator text overwriting the GUI display, and after restart there's no "report to Apple" dialog, nor is there any log entry. Having Console and Activity Monitor show nothing out of the ordinary.
For what it's worth, I'm "forcing" the KP by running iTunes with the visualizer running, figuring that's the closest thing to me sitting at it doing stuff and waiting for it to crash out. When it panics, the music goes into a loop of the last 1/2-second of music (i.e. "dit-dit-dit-dit-dit-dit...")
Another item of note is that 10.4.0 (after clean install) and 10.4.2 do not have this problem. The panics only occur under 10.4.3 and 10.4.4.
The text of the white-on-black text is retyped as follows. Notice that the DAR record is the only thing different between the two:

Hi all -
So my Mac Pro 1,1 has been having kernel panics intermittently and I don't think they are tied to any specific OS upgrade. I used to get a couple a year until a few months ago and now I am getting them more frequently and I can't repro them.
I've Googled incessantly the past several days looking for possible solutions and cannot come up with anything. Does the kernel crash log mean anything to anybody?

Mac OS X kernel generally does not do this. But you are not running Mac OS X kernel, you have made a large number of modifications to it:

The backtrace points to Disk I/O routines as the place where the problem was detected. I would be very suspicious of your third-party drives that require non-standard drivers. I have external drives, but none requires a Driver, and I certainly do not see your crashes.
If you want Apple to take your problem seriously, you will need to duplicate the failure with no non-Apple kernel extensions present. -
DVD drive broken, Mac G5 having kernel panics at startup
After nearly 5 years of steady, trouble free use, my G5 iMac started acting up a few days ago. I get what I think are kernel panics at startup. I am usually able to get it running after a few restarts but I am worried. My DVD drive became unreliable a month after my 1 year warranty expired. For some reason it won't start up with the install disks that came with the cpu but will bootup from my DiskWarrior DVD. I tried rebuilding the directory with DiskWarrior but I got the blue screen when it was almost finished. I've decided to do and Archive and install because I'm sure my problem stems from programs I installed recently. Is it possible to do the Archive and Install from my Intell Powerbook which is running the same version software. I've tried it several times, inserting the iMac install disk on my PB with my iMac connected in Target Disk mode, but I keep getting the message that the software can't be installed on this computer (the PB). Is there another way I can perform an A&I, I don't have enough space on my iDisk to use SuperDuper to create a disk image. I'm almost at the panic stage here since I use my computer for work and I'm afraid it won't start up at all at some point.
I've performed all the usual steps, repair permissions and used Disk Utility on my Firewire connect PB to repair the disk. One odd thing is FontExplorerX all of a sudden quit on me two days ago (which has never happened in the 4 years I've used it) and told me to download it again, which I did.

Other way around, with the iMac's Install Disc in the PB, boot the PB into T mode, boot the iMac with the Option key held down, wait for the Install Disk in the PB to show up as a boot option on the iMac.
But I think you have more serious problems. And, first you need to move some things off the iMac to make room for an A&I, you really need an external FW Drive right away.
