Saving a Book

Hi There-
My wife's MacBook Pro is acting very crazy, and I'm afraid that the hard drive might be going. I'm trying to back everything up, and I had a question about how iPhoto 6 handled Books.
We have a book we've been working on for several months, but we are not yet ready to buy it because it's not finished. I have backed up the entire iPhoto Library folder in its entirety to an external hard drive. Is that all I have to do to maintain all of my unfinished books, along with all of the albums, slideshows, etc?
I don't want to lose the book, so I was hoping someone here would know.
Thanks for your help!
Josh

Yes, if you’ve backed up the iPhoto Library Folder the you’ll have got the book (which is actually an entry in the database file) as well. Want to check? Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and open the library on the external.

  • Saving a book as PDF takes significantly more time when the file binary *.fm rater than *.mif?

    Is it possible, that saving a book (with FrameMaker 10) as PDF takes significantly more time when the file is formatted in the binary *.fm rather than the *.mif format?
    We have books (+160p) that take about 20 min to be saved as PDF, whereas the same book in MIF format can be saved as PDF within about 4 minutes. Is this a known issue?
    Or could that be a problem with our books?
    Does anyone know how to speed up the process (how to tweak) or are there any special adjustments in the books or documents that might slowdown the process of saving them as PDF?
    The distiller seems not to be the problem. The distiller takes equally long for both formats.
    best regards

    Strikes me as peculiar. I would expect that FM is rendering from the data structures in memory, which I would expect to be essentially identical whether originally opened as .fm or .mif.
    If return-to-UI time is important, the fastest path is:
    print to local .ps file
    Distill separately.
    And it sounds like you have the full Acrobat product, and thus have full Distiller.
    I don't have sufficient experience with Print-to-PDF vs. Save-as-PDF to opine on potential time differences for those paths.

    How do I open a book purchased from iTunes and saved in Books?

    If this is an iBook, they can be read only on an iPad, iPod touch or iPhone. The same would apply to books sold in the iTunes Store as iOS apps.

  • Saving a book as a PDF file in 5.04 becomes a preview file

    In iphoto 4 i would create lovely books then save as a PDF file which saved as an Acrobat Reader file and opened up just like a book. when i save as a pdf i am getting a preview file
    not what i want! how do i get the acrobat reader back?? anyone????

    Slideshow can be saved as QT movies but they would be way to big to email. If you can get them to a Windows machine it can view them if they have Quicktime for Windows installed. It's a free download from apple.
    There's two ways to backup your library. The first is to save the entire iPhoto Library folder intact. Obviously that will keep all of your data intact, meta, iPhoto organizational, etc. It has to be small enough to be saved to a CD or DVD disk.
    The other way is to burn to disk from within iPhoto portions of the iPhoto library, by albums or rolls, to disk. This will preserve any keywords, comments, and other organizational information that is in iPhoto.

  • Get extra bookmarks when saving a book from FM10 to PDF

    I'm doing a couple of documents (books) in FrameMaker 10 that are to be saved as PDF. When doing the PDF Setup and the Bookmarks tab, I have Generate PDF Bookmarks checked and then include paragraphs such as Chapter Title, Heading 1, Heading 2, etc., with the appropriate bookmark levels set.
    The process seems to go okay except, I get a bunch of extra bookmarks, all pointing to my Table of Contents.
    What's happening is, those headings are also used in generating the TOC, so in the contents, I have paragraphs tagged Chapter Title TOC, Heading 1 TOC, Heading 2 TOC, and so forth. The Acrobat Distiller (I presume) is picking up all of those TOC headings and making bookmarks to them. It's not a terrible event, just a bit of a nuisance.
    Interestingly, the TOC-tagged paragraphs don't show up in the Include or Don't Include lists.
    It would be a simple enough matter to open the pdf file in Acrobat and delete those extra bookmarks. But we don't have the full version of Acrobat here and are using the add-on with FrameMaker. Can't delete the bookmarks in Acrobat Reader.
    Any ideas?

    I always use structured FrameMaker. So, I restarted it into UNstructured FrameMaker. You are correct. There is no drop-down for Elements and Paragraphs, because in an unstructured document, there are no elements...duh.
    I found that if I open the TOC file, then do a PDF setup just for that file, I find the headings in the Include column and move them to the Do Not Include column.
    This indicates that the TOC paragraph tags are in only the TOC file, possibly others.
    Like PDF settings in general, I am guessing that when you print a book, FrameMaker gathers information for the Include/Excludes lists from the first file in the book. In my books, all the files in the book use the same template. So, the TOC tags are in all the files of the book, not just the TOC file.
    So, you can try opening the TOC file and the book file. Select all the files in the book file and import the paragraph formats from the TOC file into the selected files in the book. Now when you print from the book, the first file in the book contains all the required paragraph tags, which you can move from one list to the other. My guess is that they will appear in the Include list, because that is the FrameMaker default.
    I have also found that the book file may not remember your settings the next time you try to print it. So, I open the first file in the book and print it to PDF with all the bookmark settings, etc, I want. Save and close it. When you print the book, the settings are most likely to appear when you open the PDF settings.
    Hope this will help,
    Van

  • Fixing cells and saving the book...

    hi,,when we enter a planning book with a selection, it becomes aggregate level right...if i fix a cell and save it at this selection, what happens, will the fixing also be  saved?..in my case for some planning books it saves the fixing, for some other it removes the fixing...i don't have any aggregates created on it(as per the document, to save the fixed values, aggregates must be created for that char combinations) ...next when i drill down on one charectaristic there(details level), and if i fix the cell on 'total' row and save , the lock icon is getting removed...can you throw some light on this issue if you have time...

  • Saving work books locally

    Hello all,
    When we save the work book locally as excel, and again we can open this excel
    As when we open this excel it will give only the data which is stored but not the updated data because this excel does not have connection with BW system
    so how can we use work books by saving locally but with latest data when we open?
    regards
    sunil.

    Workbooks should always stored along with Roles or in Favourites.
    If you save WB locally like on your PC desktop you won't get updated data.
    thts bcoz of RFC connection.
    you can only save the WB data Locally as simple XLS/XLSX form.
    But this will be treated as normal Excel file not the Workbook.
    Cheers:)

  • Error when saving a book to PDF

    I had saved one previous copy of this unfinished book some time ago but now that I have finished it I get an error each time I try. After selecting save as PDF I get the error: "No pages from the document were selected to be printed". I have closed iphoto and re-opened, rebooted, but nothing seems to help.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Dom

    There is no file "com.apple.iphoto.plist" as they claim. May be an '08 file. I'm using 6.0.6
    This file has to exist. You are probably looking in the wrong Library. It's not the Library directly inside your Hard Drive; you want the one in your Users folder. Navigate like this:
    Mac HD/ Users/ (your user name)/ Library/ Preferences/ com.apple.iPhoto.plist
    Delete the file and see if it helps.

  • Saving Work books

    Dear Gurus,
      I have a specific requirement like i need to stop users saving the work book in a folder. The Problem is we have 5 rpeorts in folder and users from Different countries accessing the reports and saving the report according to their company code and when others trying to use its displaying no authorizations , how to stop that.
    Regards
    Arunkumar

    Hi Anun,
    In order to save a workbook, a user needs two authorization objects. The
    two objects listed below are the minimum authorizations, a user needs to
    save workbooks.
    -> S_GUI: Authorization for GUI activities
    -> S_BDS_DS: Authorizations for document set
    Both these authorizations will enable a user to save workbooks to their
    'Favourites' folder. If a user wants to save a workbook to a location
    where it can be easily accessed by others, they need to save to a 'Role'
    rather than saving the workbook in their own Favorites folder. You can
    then assign the Role to all parties who need to share workbooks. In
    order to save workbooks to Roles, a user needs following authorizations.
    -> S_USER_AGR: Authorizations: Role check
    -> S_USER_TCD: Transactions in roles
    I guess your users have the auts to save their personal settings in the role... ie: country code..., to control this take a look at the authorization object S_user_AGR... if they have activity 02 (change) for this then they will be able to save to the role.  Would it suit your purposes to have them have display only access to this workbook in the role (activity 03 for S_USER_AGR)
    I hope this helps
    best regards
    Orla.

  • Topichead does not convert properly when ditamap saved as book and hierarchy not maintained

    I'm new to DITA and piloting some documents in FrameMaker 12, trying to get the output that I need.
    I have created a ditamap with a structure as follows:
    Map title
    - Concept A
    - Topichead
       - Task A
       - Task B
    - Concept B
      - Task C
       - Task D
    I would like this to ouptut a PDF with TOC and bookmarks as follows:
    Map title => book title
    - Concept A => Chapter 1
    - Topichead => Chapter 2
       - Task A => Chapter 2.1
       - Task B => Chapter 2.2
    - Concept B => Chapter 3
      - Task C => Chapter 3.1
      - Task D => Chapter 3.2
    To do this I save the ditamap as a "Book 12.0 with fm components (*.book)" and set the Bookmark levels in the PDF Setup as follows:
    ChapterTitle
    head.0
    Title
    title.0
    .title.1
    ..title.2
    ...title.3
    However, the output systematically comes out wrong because the Topichead element, which is just a title and is not attached to any topic, is not taken into account as a hierarchical element in the output. It generates an empty fm document containing just the topichead title, output as a ChapterTitle or Title depending on whether I set its toc attribute to yes. But the TOC is all wrong - instead of taking Task A and Task B as children of Chapter 2 it puts them all at level 1 so I get:
    - Concept A => Chapter 1
    - Topichead => ignored
       - Task A => Chapter 2
       - Task B => Chapter 3
    - Concept B => Chapter 4
      - Task C => Chapter 4.1
      - Task D => Chapter 4.2
    If I output using the bog-standard DITA-OT instead of fancy and expensive FrameMaker, everything comes out correctly.
    Is there any way to correct this?
    Thanks,
    Archaeopteryx

    Hi Archaeopteryx...
    I beieve that FM only uses the elements from topics to create the output .. as you're seeing, headings in the map are ignored. I also believe that the process that FM uses to aggregate the topics into FM files is hard-coded somewhere in the DITA plugin, and not exposed for modification .. so aside from developing a plugin to modify the process, I think you're out of luck if you're using the default DITA support. The only solution would be to include title-only topics in the structure that provide those headings rather than using a topichead.
    However, you might want to check out DITA-FMx, in which the aggregation process is controlled by XSLT that you are free to modify. The default book-build process in DITA-FMx also ignores these map elements, and assumes that all content is defined in topics, but you could tweak the XSLT to include topicheads as topic headings in the generated book.

  • Saving a Book as pdf made in Framemaker 9 in Framemaker 10 Error

    I have a book that was created in FrameMaker 9, I believe, and I am trying to save the book as a pdf with my FrameMaker 10 software. When I go to do this I get a "Book Error Log" report that says "Could not open title.fm, because it was created with a previous version of FrameMaker." I really need to be able to save this book and others like it to pdf and I don't have access to the Adobe FrameMaker 9 software. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    Open up all the files in the book first; they'll be converted; save them and the book and then try printing to PDF.

  • Saving Framemaker Book to a PDf

    I am trying to save a book in Framemaker to a PDF file using "Save book As". The process runs to a point and then stops and gives me an error message. The message says "When you create a PostScript file you must rely on system fonts and use document fonts. Please go to the printer properties, "Adobe PDF settings" page and turn OFF the option "Rely on system fonts only; do not use document fonts." I have tried this a million time with all sorts of variations and I cannot get the tool too create the pdf. I am using Windows 7 and Frame 7.2. I was running Windows XP up until 3 months ago and never had a prioblem. Now I cannot make any PDF files from Framemaker using the "Save book as" feature. Anybody have any advice?

    > Windows 7 and Frame 7.2.
    This is not a supported configuration and probably does not work, due (I'm guessing) to driver API changes from XP to Win7, which would affect generating PDF and Ps output. This would affect Save-as-PDF and Print-to-Ps+Distill (unless you have a newer version of the full Acrobat product).
    As it happens, I'm going to attempt something similar: FM 7.0 on Win7 64 Pro. However, I'm going to install that old FM in "XP Mode".
    XP Mode is a 32-bit virtual machine running actual Windows XP inside Win7. It is (now maybe "was") available for Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate (but not Basic, Home or not-so-Premium). When XP went off support life earlier this month, Mr.Bill may have taken down the ability  to download XP Mode (or not, since some large enterprises are able to  purchase continued support for XP at some great cost). XP Mode never was supported for Win8. There are other VMs for Windows available.
    If XP Mode is still available, you also need a CPU that has hardware virtualization, which all recent 64-bit AMD processors do, but which is fused-off in many low end 64-bit Intel processors. AMD processors need a separate unobvious hot-fix patch installed before you do anything else about XP Mode.
