Saving a CS3 file to edit in Photoshop 6

I'm working in Photoshop CS3 and sending files to a client who has Photoshop 6. She is able to open - but not edit the files. (On her end, the layers appear as one flattened layer) On my end, Photoshop/Preferences/File Handling/"Maximize PSD Compatibility" is set to "Ask" and was selected when prompted while saving the files). What can I do to make the files editable in her version?

How about type-layers?
Could You post a screenshot of the Layers Panel?

I need to design something using InDesign and Illustrator CS3 (or just one of these depending on the responses I get).
Is is possible to save a particular file type out of either Illustrator or InDesign which can then be opened & edited in Microsoft Word (on a PC)? It would mainly just be text which would need to be edited in Word afterwards.

None of them.

You can export text from InDesign and open/edit that text file in Word, but you will not get layout, page size, columns, margins, or graphics. You can export art from Illustrator as EMF or PNG (I much prefer PNG) them import those graphics normally and position as you want.
Making your Illustrator or InDesign file into an editable Word file means doing a lot of it over again in a much worst interface.

Duplicate files when editing in Photoshop??

I was wondering if it was possible to avoid the duplicate files when I edit in Photoshop. For example: If I import three raw files into CS2 to blend, then save the blended file and import it back into Lightroom for further processing, I have to go and delete the other two duplicate PSD's ever time. This seems redundant..any suggestions or is this just how it goes? Thanks, Chip

That's how it goes.

I loose my files after editing with photoshop and saving.

I can "see" the file title listed in the photoshop save dialogue box but can find no way to access them again. They do not appear in aperature and fail to be found using any search string from finder.

Before you sent the image to Photoshop as the External Editor, did you see new version (either .psd or .tif) that Aperture created for the purpose? If so, then is that version still in the strip of images, or in the Browser?

CS3 file not compatible with Photoshop CS4?

My son uses Photoshop CS3 at college. He worked all day on an image (120MB), and saved it on a USB stick. When opening at home with Photoshop CS4, the "Reading Photoshop format" appears, then an error message "Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop."
He has been burned before by a USB stick, but all the other files seem OK.
Is there a solution to this?

^First thing I did was make a copy.
QuickTime Picture Viewer (which seems to open other PSD files) says it is corrupted.
Adobe Bridge can read the metadata, gives no preview, and won't open the file.
Any other thoughts?

Renaming Files and editing in Photoshop error, files getting lost

Hi I have been working on organising my library.
So I thought I found a cool way to name my files using "\\\" turns out I can't.
I have no clue what his has done to my paths and directories as the files I have renamed cannot be found. When I go through the process of linking the files in the folder back together it tells me
" IMAGE______ is already associated with another photo in catalogue"
Also some of the images I was working on but had not changed the name of; as I edited them in photoshop and closed them, I was saving the images first in photoshop as a psd so I could preserve the layers then saving it as a tiff then closing. On I think all occasions the Tiff or the PSD did not automatically register in the catalogue and had to be imported after. And since then the files are either doing the above or being lost completely.

That's how it goes.

Does anyone know how to avoid grainy files after editing in Photoshop CS6 (Mac)

We have come across a problem using Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Illustrator CS6 on a MAC. We use Illustrator CS6 for putting together the graphics and use Photoshop CS6 for editing. When we save the image in full res and browse the image - the image looks grainy both on a Mac and a PC. Has anyone else come across a similar problem and if so do you know how we can solve this problem?

Are you "Placing" the image files? What format are they saved in ( i.e., .tiff, .psd, .jpg, .eps )?

Can´t open my .psd file to edit on photoshop CS v.8.0.1

I am trying to open a .psd file that I saved few weeks ago but i get an error: "could not open, becuase the layer you are trying to open is not a compatible text layer".

"Unknown Error" Message when saving Illutrator CS3 file

I get this unknown error message when attempting to save an illustrator file.(CS3). I tried to open and then save several files with the same resulting error message. As a work around, I have reverted to working in CS2 until I can get this resolved.

Do I understand you correctly in saying that Photoshop CS3 has PostScript information that it routinely sends to a printer, and therefore I would need to have a PostScript compatible printer inorder to work with this information (and also for my ColorMunki calibration to work)?
Based upon what you said, I think my color problems are because the ColorMunki profile for my printer, paper, & ink combination are being ignored.

Saving PS CS3 files when used as an external editor

When I open an image through aperature with PS as the external editor it makes a copy of my image and saves it in my library when Im done in PS which is great, but when I take that same PS edited file, open it back up in PS and attempt to save another PS version of it in the aperature library with the "Save as" command it does not show up in my library anywhere. If I go to the aperature library folder I can find my additional saved PS images in the correct library folder, but they do not show up in aperature.
Does anyone know a way to be able to save additional PS files in the aperature library?

Thanks for the help. Only problem still is that if I do it that way and import the edited saved Tif or PSD file back into aperature my PS layers and settings are erased when I try to reopen that PS file with the external editor through aperature. Unlike the original image duplicated in aperature when using PS as the external editor which I can continue to open and reopen from within aperature and be able to access all my saved PS layers, mask, adjustments, etc.

Can't Open ANY files to edit in Photoshop Elements 10

I have used Photoshop Elements 10 for about two years and had no problems. Suddenly today it won't open ANY files. Not from the desktop, and not even a blank file to start with. It acts like it is going to, I can choose the sizing for a blank file, but then nothing happens. Any ideas?? Thanks!

Quit the editor then restart it while holding down ctrl+alt+shift (command+option+shift on a mac). Keep the keys down till you see a window asking if you want to delete the settings file. You do.

Preview locks files - cannot edit in Photoshop CS6

Preview has locked all my image files - Even if I use the dropdown menu in the Title bar and change it to unlocked - makes no difference - I still cannot save/save as when I open an image in Photoshop CS6 - it says I do not have permission, or someone else is using file etc. I have gone into Get Info - does not says file/folder is locked - have made sure that I have Read/Write privileges in the Get Info window - makes no difference. It basically means I cannot use Photoshop - the only thing that works in Photoshop is Save for Web. I have lost two jobs that I was to do by Christmas because of this - if anyone can help I would be most appreciative!

Set up CS6 as an secondary editor, and then it will use LR's built-in ACR to process the files, instead of the external ACR with CS6. The external ACR 6.7 also processes D800, just not ACR 7 just yet.

How to edit in photoshop cc from LR 5 it won't read the file, please help me!!!

I can not get my updated lr 5 and photoshop cc to work together? I don't know how to fix this problem but it will not read my file to "edit in" photoshop cc. Please help me understand the change I need to make to help this process along? I know Lr 5 created a new version of the same catalog from lr 4.4 today. I just don't know how to make this work????

Where does my saved file go after using photoshop as external editor

Okay, I understand that when I have a 30MB picture file and edit with photoshop afterwards, I click on Save and back into aperture i'm left with a 175MB picture (bigger or smaller sometimes), but my question is this:
Since i'm working with all referenced images that have been stored on my external hard drive, after i make the edits and the file size explodes, does aperture save that large file in the aperture library, or to my external drive?
I keep my aperture library file on my computer, but the images on an external drive.
Should I make a new library file and store that on an external drive also?
The whole point of using referenced images is to save space on the main computer, but if it's saving a file that's 6 times larger onto my computer instead of the external drive, it kind of defeats the purpose right?

You can test this for yourself, but I just tested with a new Project, importing to Aperture to remain at the currently location, editing a photo with Photoshop. The Tiff that Aperture first created for PS to edit was created in the original folder, and not in the Aperture Library. The edit, when Saved, was made to that new copy in the original folder location, and thus in the external location.
