Saving a cs4 to cs3

I am just learning Dreamweaver CS4 but my school only has CS3, is it possible to save my CS4 files to CS3??

There is no difference.
Web files (HTML and CSS) are web files. Plain text readable by humans. There's no proprietary file format conversion required.
The only difference would be CS3 functions which have been deprecated in CS4 won't be available in CS4

e.g. if you use Timelines or Flash buttons at school using CS3, you won't be able to work on them using CS4 at home.

Illustrator CS4 and CS3 crashing on two different mac's - can not save or print

We have two Macs running 10.5.6, with CS4 and CS3 installed. Both systems seem to be crashing today when trying to save, print, etc any file. Some files that were created in CS3 that are older seem to be opening and saving. But anything I know was worked on yesterday are having issues on both systems.
Anyone have any ideas?
I have tried trashing the preferences, and also booting in safe mode and still get crashes.

I just tried an uninstall of Illustrator - then reinstall. Did not work either. Here is the report I am getting if anyone is interested:

Saving InDesign CS4 files for InDesign CS2

I'm about to upgrade from CS3 to CS4 but have a client who needs to open documents I create InDesign CS2. I've been saving files for this clients in CS3's interchange (.inx) format, which has worked fine. But CS4 .inx files will only open in CS3. One work around I found was on TUAW (http://www.tuaw.com/2009/05/08/tuaw-tip-saving-indesign-cs4-files-for-indesign-cs2/), which suggests opening the .inx file in a text editor and changing the version number. The resulting file should then open in CS4. I was wondering if anyone has tried this (with or without success) or has any advice on saving CS4 docs for CS2? Thanks very much!

I'll go with option 3 since I no longer have CS2 on my machine and my
client won't be upgrading anytime soon. Thanks for the help and great

I'd never use this workflow if I couldn't test it on CS2 before sending it off to the client. Don't know what to tell you here... good luck?

JPG Image saved in CS4 not opening in IE,but works in Firefox

I have received images from my client which are edited & saved in CS4. But when i m trying to open these images in IE its not opening, but it is opening in Firefox.
Wat is the solution for this??

Are the documents all RGB? Most browsers don't speak CMYK.
Also, next time, use the camera icon to add an image, don't put them as attachments -- the virus scanning queue for attachments is busted at the moment.

Cant save down from CS4 to CS3

I'm having issues with my Illustrator CS4. It's recently stopped saving files down to CS3. Says "Can't Save File" when I try to save it down to CS3.

I will find those things out as I am not the user. Only IT Support. Was just wondering if anyone
else has had this issue and could share there solution.
Another user can save down the same file to the same location without any issues. Don't know if this helps at all.
Quad Core machine running XP Pro. PDF compatibility enabled. Have not tried reinstallation. Cant save to network or computer.

EPS file opens as code language on Mac CS4 and CS3

Backsaving Photoshop CS4 to CS3

How do you backsave files in Photoshop from CS4 to CS3. I did work on files in CS4 over weekend and saved as .tif, .jpg (which loses my layers) .psd, photshop 2.... but I cannot open any of the files on my computer at work which has CS3.

Did You Maximize Compatibility when saving the psd-files?
Because those should open in CS3 without problems, although some stuff (like Masks Panel-changes) might not be maintained.

Lost Annimation - Save as Flash CS4 to CS3 - any recovery options?

My son and his friend have been working almost 24 hours
straight for a project for school. During the wee dark hours of the
night they added the motion bits to their annimation. The school is
using CS3, the only version we could buy was CS4. So they have
saved their project as CS3.
Now they see a warning, "Motion Objects Will Be Lost." So all
the work they've put in is gone?!
Is there any way to retrieve their work?
They thought they were almost done, and now they are back to
several hours ago, when they started adding motion? There has to be
a workaround.

Compatibility of InDesign CS4 with CS3 or CS5

My situation is this: I'm working in InDesign CS4 at the moment and need someone else to work on the same files on a separate machine.
The separate machine MAY have CS3 installed or they may need to buy a new copy of InDesign, in which case I imagine they would end up buying CS5. (Or is it still possible to buy CS4 products??)
My question is this: if they buy CS5, I imagine they will have no problems opening the files I work on, but will I have problems when I open the files they have saved? Will I be able to?
Simlarly: If they have CS3, will they be able to open the files I work on?
In other words: what is the best solution for our situation short of me having to upgrade to CS5?

The best solution is you should all be working in the same version. If this is a short-term project you may be able to work with a trial version (for earlier versions see http://forums.adobe.com/message/2729885#2729885 for a link to a blog posting with directions and direct download links).
If that won't work, be sure nobody is using any features in the newer version that are not supported in the older version and be preapred for text to reflow (which won't happen inthe newer version opening an older file until you start to edit). CS4 to CS3 requires export to .inx from CS4 and CS3 must be patched to 5.0.4. CS5 to CS4 requires export to .idml from CS5, and CS4 should be patched to 6.0.5.
Note that trying to callborate using two versions is pretty much a recipe for trouble.

Cs4 opens cs3 files with errors

Here's a big heads up for anyone considering upgrading to cs4 - don't! I've been working on a cs3 project and decided to upgrade to cs4 for the extras in the 3D toolset. All the Adobe propoganda implies this can be achieved no problem, as did soemone on telephone tech support. Perhaps I didn't clearly ask 'can I open my cs3 file in cs4'. I can BUT the clips are very much 'out of synch. I'll lick my wounds and go back to finishing in cs3 but don't purchase cs4 if you think you can seamless import your sc3 project. Because it seems you very much can not!

As I've stated here in this forum, we're trying to transition Adobe technical support to a new organization and providing the best support we can to our customers. That being said, it is a long and sometimes painful process, which is why I am here on the forums at times to lend some support. This doesn't help you and you might not even care so...
Here's a couple of suggestions:
1. make sure your software is updated (Premiere Pro 4.2.1) by going to help>updates
2. clear your prefs - http://blogs.adobe.com/genesisproject/2009/11/having_weird_behavior_with_an.html
3. try importing (ctrl-I) a CS3 project into CS4
Try these things and let me know how you make out. Also, it would be very helpful if you told us about your system and the specs. I've looked all over and can't find anything on this subject. (I
tried to find a new copy of CS3, but encountered a host of problems

CS4 to CS3 Design View Preview

Is it possable to to preview Dreamweaver CS4 in CS3 Design View? I only have CS4 on my machine and a customer with CS3 wants to make changes to my work. The CSS styles do not render correctly. Is there anything I can do to to correct this? Everything works in the browsers.

Trying to Upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended

I am trying to upgrade to CS4 from CS3 Extended. The Adobe web page states to call Adobe support for this upgrade. I call them before I attempt the upgrade to ask what I should do. They tell me to intall it and call back. I get to the serial screen and call back, they tell me to fully install it in trial mode, then call back. I do this and call back, but notice it installed CS4 Extended, not CS4. They tell me they can't help me because I purchased only CS4. That is all I want is CS4, so I uninstall CS4 extended and try again. Again the install(from disk) installs CS4 Extended(At least that is what the title page says).
Do I need to uninstall CS3 Extended before I install the CS4 Trial version?

Preview with CS4 or CS3 on OS10.5.4 gets wrong URL path

First, I did a rather extensive search within the archives
for this before posting but, at least in my searches, could not
find any previous posts that addressed this.
I know what is happening I just don't know why. I am working
with a very simple static site. I've set up the path in the site
manager so that the root path is as follows:
/Users/phoppes/Documents/Development/Training/DreamweaverCS3/testsite
Links are relative to Document and I have enabled the cache.
This happens for both CS4 or CS3. If I create a simple one line
html file and hit preview, Firefox opens up but the path in the URL
is as follows:
file:///System/Users/phoppes/Documents/Development/Training/DreamweaverCS3/testsite/test.h tml
I get the "File not Found" message:
Firefox can't find the file at
/System/Users/phoppes/Documents/Development/Training/DreamweaverCS3/testsite/test.html.
My HD on my Mac is named System. Obviously something inside
of DW is attaching the /System to the front of the URL to open
Firefox. If I go into the URL tab in Firefox and hack out the
/System, the page is found and displays correctly. If I try to
redefine the site root in the Site Manager with the /System in the
front DW does not like this. It complains it cannot find the path
as I believe DW is appending /System to the front itself so the
path becomes /System/System/Users/.... which is incorrect also. I
can work around this,....I have to hack the url every time I do a
preview but it is a PITA and I'd like to not have to do this if
possible.
Any help would be appreciated.
PS - Not sure if this is causing it but I do have a custom
/etc/hosts file on my machine. The top looks like the following:
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthostt
::1 localhost
Following this line are static IP's for machines on my local
network. This machine is networked via DHCP
so there is not a listing for this machine in the hosts file.

What is in the HTTP address field of the Local site
definition?

Compatability of Illustrator CS4 with CS3

I am trying to find out how to create a file from CS4 in CS3 format. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Only Type on a path should reflow. CS3 and CS4 use the same text engine so there shouldn't be any reflowing. Type on a Path was updated in CS4 and improved, so there may be some shifting there.
