Saving a DRM book to pendrive/external disk to later download and read it on personal notebook (with Adobe Digital Editions)

Hello.
I installed Adobe Digital Editions on my mother's personal computer and activated my Adobe ID in order to be able to purchase, download and read DRM books there.
But is it possible to save the DRM books to a pendrive or external hard disk, so that I can "carry them" and later download and read them on my personal notebook (having previously installed Adobe Digital Editions and activated my Adobe ID in the notebook)?
I don't know if DRM books can be saved to pendrives and external hard disks...
Barbara

Incidentally, you do know that you can buy kindle or Nook apps for your ipad? I was assuming you wanted a DE-specific app.
EDIT Actually, those apps are free--you just pay for what you buy through them, if that helps you any.
Incidentally, O'Reilly, my publisher, uses PDF for real galley purposes, although they do create epub editions of their books for distribution. You might want to ask the publishers you work with if there's another format available.

To remove the book simply touch and hold the cover on the main page.  A little pop up will ask, remove?  Say yes.  The book content will de deleted.   The cover will remain on your main page with a little down arrow so that you can redownload it if you wan in the cloud view.  In the device view, it simply disappears.
Note at the bottom of the page are a couple of switches, labeled cloun and device.  The device switch shows you books on your device.  The cloud page shows your whole catalog, and the down arrow allows you to bring down anything in your catalog to the device.

  • How to add DRM protection to an EPUB so it can only be read with Adobe Digital Editions?

I wish to add DRM protection to our EPUBS and PDF's so that they can only be read using Adobe Digital Editions, so that we can control licensing.

    Hi John,
At present, the only places you can buy copy-protected ebooks that are suitable for the Sony Reader are from Sony's own ebook store and from Borders.com. The books you buy from eBooks.com won't work on the Sony Reader.
Please contact our support team direct at help (at) ebooks.com, and tell them what's happened, and they'll be able to help you out.

  • Using windows vista with two users and I can only open books with adobe digital editions on one account?

using windows vista with two users and I can only open books with adobe digital edition

You must authorize the second computer with the same Adobe ID.
There are sometimes issues with this registration: if you have them ....
Sometimes ADE gets its registration/activation confused and in a semi-authorized state.
Uninstalling and reinstalling does not help.
Unfortunately, it often then gives misleading error messages about what is wrong.
A common incorrect message informs you that the ID is already in use on another computer and cannot be reused.
This can often be resolved by completely removing any authorization using ctrl-shift-D to the Library screen on ADE (cmd-shift-D if on Mac).
Restart ADE, and then reauthorize with your (old) Adobe ID.

Set your Computer to work with our eBook provider
    1.  Download and install Adobe Digital Editions. This software requires  Flash.
    2. Open up Adobe Digital Editions. It will ask you to activate  your software with an Adobe ID.
    3. If you create an Adobe ID:
    a.  You may download the book to more than one computer as long as the  computers all
use the same Adobe ID. (Up to 6 computers can be  activated using one Adobe ID.)
    b. You can transfer your eBooks only  to Nooks that are using the same Adobe ID.
    4. If you decide to  continue anonymously:
    a. You will not be able to transfer eBooks to  your Nook!
    b. You may only download to one computer.
    c. You can  activate an Adobe ID at any time. However, you may lose the rights to  see any
    eBooks that were downloaded previously.
    5. We recommend  that you create an Adobe ID. Follow the steps to do so.
    6. Activate  your Nook by plugging it into your computer with Adobe Digital Editions  open.
    7. Adobe Digital Editions will detect your Nook and ask to  activate it using the same Adobe ID as
your copy of Adobe Digital  Editions. Follow the prompts. (It may take a few minutes for Digital
    Editions  to see your Nook.)
Getting your eBook on  to your Nook
    1. Open up Adobe Digital Editions.
    2. Plug in your Nook. If you have not previously set it up, Adobe   Digital Editions will ask to register
your Nook using the same Adobe  ID as your Digital Editions.
    3. Your Nook will appear on the left  under Bookshelves.
    4. To transfer your eBook to the Nook, click on  your previously  downloaded eBooks and drag them
to the Nook icon.  The book will transfer.
    5. Unplug your Nook.
    6. To find your new  eBook, go to My Library.
    7. On the touch screen, scroll up until  you see My Documents.
    8. Your new book will be in My Documents.
    9. Enjoy!

  • I have a Kobo N416  E-Reader. It is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. I was told that I can use Adobe Digital Editions Desktop App to download book to this Kobo N416 E-Reader . How do I do this ? Thanks

Question;  How do I download Ebooks to my Kobo N416 e-reader using Adobe Digital Editions App ? I have already tried to get help from Kobo Techs but they say the Kobo N416 E-Reader is no longer supported by Kobo and is outdated. Kobo told me to use Adobe Digital Editions to download the books I bought on Kobo to my Kobo N416 E-Reader. I have already contacted Adobe Digital Editions for help but they could not help me and told me to go to Adobe Forums.

I didnt't say that our business is using Linux Desktops. I wrote, our main clientele is. And what our customers do like to use is something we cannot control...
    >What difference does it make to you if Adobe releases a new version of Reader that is not supported on Linux?
a new Adobe Reader version that's supported on Linux would be nice. a dialogue between Adobe and Linux developers would be nice...
    >As long as the old versions can open the files correctly, that's all that matters, no?
No, not if our staff is trained to use the newest Adobe Acrobat (trainings are usually for the newest versions) and uses that to produce forms. Now the files open correctly. But what will be in some months or years? Do people working on Linux do have to print the forms then again to fill in?
So do you recommend that we stop the process of producing electronic forms and stay with paper-fill-in forms? Is that the goal of Adobe? (maybe not so clever for your "financial viability"?!?!? ... ein schuss ins eigene bein?!?!)
    >Adobe is a public company and therefore it's not going to maintain a version of its software at great cost if it's not financially viable. It's as simple as that...
So it is to be interpreted that Adobe is interested in killing Linux cause if users cannot work with let's say forms, they will have to switch to something that can do that for them...
We definitely don't want to force Windows or Mac on our clientele. So as far as I get it, we will go back to paper forms and terminate our licence agreements with Adobe and deinstall it...

  • If Adobe Digital Edition 4.0.3 is open and no book is opened, it crashes when minimizing the window

I am trying to find a fix for this issue and I saw on a lot's of post, that people are having the same problem as I am with Adobe Digital Edition 4.0.3. If I open Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.3 with no book opened and I minimized the window, then it crashes and it give's me the following error message:

note to moderator -   this is MY response to MY own posting.  How can this be a duplicate.
success.  ADE 4.0 is to be avoided. It crashed after my solution.
The solution is trash the activation.dat preference file.
Navigate to /Users//Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions and drag the activation.dat file to the trash.
If you are using 10.7, see Access hidden library files | Mac OS 10.7 and later.
I reinstalled ADE 3.0 and life is good.

  • When I plug my ereader into Adobe Digital Editions it opens up multiple copies of books.

I'm having some problems with Adobe Digital Editions. When I plug my ereader into Adobe Digital Editions it opens up multiple copies of books. These are books I've either bought or am borrowing from the library. The books in some cases are no longer even on my computer (returned to library). Is there a way I can stop this? Do I have to uninstall then reinstall Adobe Digital Editions?

Please authorize ADE 3 with same credentials that you used with older version of ADE

  • Backup with time machine. external disk is now full and can't reopened!

Last weekend I tried to do my first backup with the time machine software. For this purpose, I used a external disk containing different kind of documents, pictures and songs. This external disk was used before on a HP (software: windows vista). Unfortunately, during the backup process, I disrupeted the connection and the backup couln't finished. Now, my macbook pro can't recognise the external disk and also on my old HP the external disk is not recognised and no docment can't be opend!! When I look at the properties of this disk, then I see that the external disk is almost full. Does this cause all the problem?
How do I proceed in order to get back all my documents on this disk?

You and your wife share one drive for backup?  Do you backup over wifi or move it around?
Time machine is generally a rock solid tool but you can use it in ways that make it unstable.  I have dedicated drives on 3 macs which run very solid.  I also have one drive on a airport extreme base station (older model which is not supported but does work) that I use with a macbook air.  The macbook air wifi based backup runs into problems a few times a year.  One of my iMacs with a dedicated drive also runs into problems but only when the drive is nearly full.
It sounds like your drive is nearly full and your using multiple notebooks and possibily wifi......If this is the case, you may be way less frustrated by buying dedicated drives sufficiently big for each computer.  That is the experience I can share with you.
    Good luck.

  • Sony Reader - Adobe Digital Editions DRMed books causing crashes

    Hi,
Hopefully someone has seen this behaviour before and knows how to solve it.
I'm in the UK with the UK version of the Sony PRS-505 eBook Reader which runs software version 1.2.00.18050. I've installed the Sony eBook Library and the Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software on Windows XP and they both worked perfectly. The 'free' books that came with the Reader install just fine as do free books from places like feedbooks.com.
However, when I want to buy a book, things go badly wrong. ADE sees the Reader and I can register it. I then tried to download a book from the Waterstones online store (Waterstones are the UK partner for Sony). The file transferred and looks fine inside ADE.
However, when I copied the file to the Reader's internal memory and unplugged it from the computer, things began to go wrong. The spinning refresh icon appeared and the Reader reset, rebooted, up came the refresh icon, reset, reboot - and so on and on and on...
I performed a hard reset on the Reader, re-registered it with ADE and tried installing the DRMed book on the SD card. After unplugging the Reader, it began to endlessly reboot just as before. Removing the card stopped the rebooting and the Reader behaved as normal. Delete the book from the card, plug it back in and the Reader is happy - so it's definitely something to do with the book or the DRM on the book. I've tried a couple of titles and each of them do the same thing.
After pleading for help on a mobileread forum, another UK user has had exactly the same problem. He has had his Reader exchanged for another one but that too is crashing when he tries to use DRMed content.
So has anyone here seen this problem? I'm completely stuck as Waterstones, from whom I've bought it are passing the buck to Sony and they are almost certainly going to pass it on to Adobe.
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Mike.

    Update Two:
I zorched the Reader, then reloaded ALL content to a Memory Stick. Once this had completed it's initial scan, it would refresh in a couple of minutes when accessed with Sony's software, then detached from the computer.
I next re-authorized the Reader and added a single protected book via ADE to the internal memory of the Reader, with the MS removed. This book was the only thing in the Reader. It loaded, but the Reader took a relatively long time to refresh after disconnect (like 25 seconds, with only one book). I can access the book without a problem.
Next I installed the MS. It took about six or seven minutes, but it came up OK (about 200 books on there). After that I connected the Reader to the computer for a minute or two and then detached it. It completed the two refresh cycles in about 30 seconds (internal memory then the MS).
Next I plugged it into the computer and accessed it with the Sony software. I then ejected it via the software and unplugged it and it's been stuck in a refresh cycle ever since. I expect it to crash if I wait long enough, but I'll probably pull the card after finishing this post.
Something is happening to the Reader that is causing it to be VERY slow about scanning external memory after it's authorized by ADE.
Next experiment is to see if what happens with just a dozen or so books only on the internal memory.
    UPDATE 3:
So I put about a dozen books in the internal memory, no external cards. That refreshed in about 5 seconds after detaching from the Sony software. I then added four more protected books via ADE. Detaching from the computer after that the Reader took about two minutes to refresh the content (now only 16 books, 5 protected by ADE).
Adding a few more books from the Sony software caused about a two minute refresh cycle. Next detach with Sony software was very fast (no changes, just listing the contents) as was one where I added a single file.
I'll keep adding stuff to the internal memory to see what happens.
Finally, I'd note that when the Reader hangs the spinning arrows are frozen, or only move once a minute or so, as opposed to spinning rapidly but for a long time.
I think you can recreate this problem if you just load up an external memory device with a 150 or so books from your favorite public domain source, then start adding a few protected by ADE. Users with 650+ books have reported that it only takes their readers about three minutes to refresh the contents after unhooking the from the computer, so I'm pretty sure something is amiss here.
Thanks again for looking at this. I can keep swapping stuff around manually, but I really liked having all my books on the Reader so I can pick and choose while on trips. Not being able to use the memory expansion is a significant drawback.
