Saving a file as a Photoshop EPS
My printer would like me to save my file as a Photoshop EPS file, with Preview setting to JPEG and Encoding to JPEG (Maximum Quality). I am working in CS4.
When I save as for the EPS, I only get two TIFF options for preview settings. How do I get a JPEG option?
Thanks.
Check the mode
and see if it is 8 bit. Jpeg will not save in 16 bit mode.

Saving a file directly from Photoshop into Aperture
I am interested in saving a file while in Photoshop back in to Aperture. Proposed workflow:
Load digital file from camera into Aperture>Drag file to CS3; edit/print>save new file in same folder as the original in Aperture.
I would like to do this directly- I can save the edited file in CS3 to my desktop and then go to Aperture and import the file from my desktop but this seems arcane to me. Anyone know a direct route?
Thanks in advance- JayBUT, you must save the Photoshopped image using Save (not Save As using a new name or saving to a new location) so that a Photoshop file is saved back in the Aperture library. It would be nice if you could use the Apple-Shift-O to open in Photoshop, and save back as a Jpeg automatically, but we're not quite there yet.
Those full size Photoshop files will swell your library size pretty quick, which is a good thing; you'll begin to appreciate non destructive editing more fully -
How to turn off eps saving backup file as filename -01.eps?
Hi all,
I'm not at sure how I came about this/which box was ticked in saving options but whenever I save eps files, Illustrator will also save another backup file with '-01' after the filename and before the extension '.eps'. Also, whenever I save the document (as opposed to 'save as') a dialogue box will appear asking me if I want to replace the already existing file. Obviously I do.
My question is: How do I turn this option off?
NOTE: as far as I know, this problem of mine is only limited to .eps files, or more precisely it doesn't seem to happen when saving .ai files.
Thanks.Thanks Larry!
I can't see the relevance in "Use Artboards" and saving a back up but I'll take it. -
Where is the Quicklook preview when saving a file as Photoshop EPS in CC2014
When I save a photoshop image as a PHOTOSHOP EPS it does not add a preview in the file. In CS6 it worked fine. Now the Quicklook preview (in the finder) is gone it makes it very hard to see what you are importing in for example Indesign. The reason why I use EPS for importing in Indesign is: filesize is very small (like JPG) and the preview in Indesign is very lite in size so Indesign runs very smooth. Even when I have a 40 page Indesign doc with over 300 images imported. So why is the preview gone in the EPS????
It should be adding a preview to the file. When you save the .eps, what options are selecting from the Encoding menu in the EPS Options dialog?
You said you're saving as eps for the small file sizes, but generally you'll get larger files than if you just save the file as a .psd. If you're looking for speed in InDesign you can set your display performance settings to Fast so that images just use a small low-resolution as a preview. -
Saving a file as .eps gives user an ID 5000 error on a Mac
I have a friend that is having a hard time saving files as .eps in InDesign, Illistrator and PhotoShop when using a Mac. She is able to create the file and save it so she should have full ownership and read/write rights to the file. Yet when she opens the file, edits it and saves it again, she gets a pop-up stating "Cannot save the illustration. You do not have enough access privileges - ID 5000". The user is the owner of the file. How would she not have access privileges? When she saves the file as an .ai, pdf, or jpg, there is no problem. She also has no problem saving the file on a Windows PC. What could be the problem?
Software version : CS6
Device: iMac, 3.75 Ghz Intel Core Duo with 8 gigs RAM
OS: OS X 10.8 with all of the latest updatesNo, using EPS is narrow minded as it is an old outdated file type which does not support transparency nor color management. That means you will loose information and quality eventually. There is no reason to save as EPS today.
I just love it when these "discussions" come around and the forum isn't busy. It is sort of like driving by a train wreck—cannot stop myself from taking a peek.
Look, there are reasons for exporting to EPS even in this day and age. Ever work with people in India? Not picking on India but that is where the greatest number of requests I get for providing EPS files. Being the dumb SOB that I am, after I get turned down when I ask if a PDF or an AI file would be a better format, I just give them what they want.
And besides. Want to stop having to tell people to stop exporting to EPS format? Open a request to Adobe and tell them to stop supporting that format for both import and export. Until such time that Adobe sees the wisdom of y'alls argument in dropping that file format for both import/export, why not attempt to throw a little help in with the adamant Stop message, eh?
As for the OP...try having the user save to their local drive and move it to the server. Not a great solution, but it usually works.

Placing photoshop eps's into Illustrator - file size
I used to place very large/high res photoshop eps files into Illustrator (as low res proxy) and it would allow my Illustrator file size to stay very small, however, once I switched to CS5 I noticed the way I was saving the eps's wouldn't show up in Illustrator, it would show as an empty box until I resaved the eps with tiff preview and jpg encoding. But this makes my Illustrator file huge which is not what I want. Does anyone that creates large scale graphics know what I'm talking about? Thanks

This setup has been working for years…
Does that mean that you don't even plan to update Photoshop CS to CS6 13.0,6? That would be a grave mistake. There were many substantial bug fixes along the way.
Updating to CS 13.0.6 is completely, totally free. No expense at all.
If your issue appeared "suddenly", delete and recreate your Photoshop and your Illustrator's preferences.
But update to 13.0.6 ASAP. There's absolutely no excuse and no valid reason for staying with known buggy versions. That's just plain nonsense.
If you insist on staying with your "setup" for the reason you state, please don't bother addressing any replies to me. -
Linking Photoshop EPS Files with Clipping Paths
I'm running InDesign CS4 6.0.3 on a dual 2GHz G5 with Mac OS X 10.5.7.
We have a workflow that involves Photoshop EPS files being placed in InDesign with the object's clipping path set to Photoshop Path. If the link is updated or relinked, InDesign no longer restricts the image to the boundaries of the path—either on screen or on export to PDF—even though choosing Object -> Clipping Path -> Options still shows the type set to Photoshop Path. The only way that I have found to get the clipping path to fully apply to the image is to change the type from Photoshop Path to None and back to Photoshop Path, all while the Preview check box is on. I tried different combinations of turning the Apply Photoshop Clipping Path option on and off at the time of initial placement and at the time of relinking with no effect on this behavior.
Assuming that using a format other than EPS and using transparency rather than clipping paths are not in play at the moment, my questions are:
1. Is this a know issue with InDesign CS4? If so, can we expect a fix soon?
2. Is there anything that can be done on the user side that is less cumbersome than the workaround described above?@Mark
Photoshop PSD is fine for all raster work. But if you have vector masks, vector shapes or text in the file then saving as PDF would be the better option, you can choose to remove the white background when importing the PDF in the Show Options of the Place Dialog box.
And that's null point anyway, as soon as you open a photoshop EPS file in Photoshop it rasterises everything. So what I said isn't a viable solution for this project. But to keep in mind that PSD will output as raster only and PDF can have transparency and raster + vector data.
Just thought I'd through that out there. -
Problems saving AI file to an EPS
I am try to save an Illustrator file as an EPS, and I keep getting the message: NOT ENOUGH MEMORY OR IMAGE IS TOO COMPLEX, CHANGING THE DOCUMENT WINDOW MAY HELP. I am using CS6. I have done this over and over for years. Now as of two days ago I keep getting this message and it's starting to affect the business flow because I can not come up with a solution. I have looked around online for two days without any luck. Can someone help me please?
DanI am using a PC with Windows 7. What I'm doing exactly is taking a high res. image in Photoshop CS6. Flattening the image, creating channels for my specific colors and then saving the file as a DCS 2.0 file. After that, I'm placing that EPS file into a predetermined art board size in illustrator. Once I have it in place I am then saving that illustrator file as an EPS to run it thru a RIP program. It sounds a little weird all the jumping around but it is necessary for what I have to do. And it has always worked just fine until two days ago. When you say I don't have enough scratch disk space, are you referring to Photoshop? I can not find an option in Illustrator to adjust? Thank you very much for all or any help with this.

Photoshop EPS not saving vector data?
I have a Photoshop CS3 file with 2 layers that use vector masks. I saved the file as an .eps and checked "Include Vector Data." I placed the .eps in an InDesign document. On screen everything looks fine, but if I print to PDF the vector mask layers are missing; likewise if I open/rasterize the .eps file in Photoshop the vector mask layers are gone. It prints fine if I place the original .psd file in the InDesign doc. Any ideas why .eps doesn't appear to save the vector data? Thanks...
I understand that eps doesn't support layers, and that vector data will be rasterized if I open the eps in photoshop. That's not the issue; the issue is the vector layer data is being *discarded* and is not making it through the workflow: eps placed into an InDesign document and distilled to PDF.
Update: I merged all layers in the psd file except for 1 vector layer & saved as an eps. When I reopened the eps in photoshop, it tells me it's rasterizing eps data, but when the file opens the imagery from the vector layer is missing. Likewise, if I place the eps in InDesign and distill a pdf, the imagery from the vector layer is missing, even though it appears in the onscreen preview in InDesign. Maybe something is screwy with that mask? -
Photoshop CS6 program error saving layered files
I recently updated my adobe software and I am still getting issues with saving layered files. I keep gettting program error - only occasionally. Sometimes saving to my desktop works and other times it doesnt. Other coworkers are experiencing same thing ever since they updated. It happens when working on a layered file for any length of time and need to save it out as a layered photoshop file. We are forced to flatten and save as a tif and loose our layers. I think it has something to do with background task but not sure...
Drag the file to your desktop, open the file there, do your edits, save, and then drag back.
Let us know what you are working off. If server, what server software are you using. System preferences >> spotlight, uncheck all items. -
I downloaded the PSD trial. Worked in it. Saved my file. Now when I try to open it it says "not a valid photoshop file"
That depends on why it won't open. Most of the time it means the file is corrupted and unlikely to be recovered. If you saved it right after adding or copying a LOT of layers - then it might just be the layer limit and we can attempt to recover it.

Photoshop CC 2014 Crashes When Opening or Saving PNG Files
I'm having an issue where opening or saving PNG files causes my copy of Photoshop CC 2014 to crash.
I've updated to the latest version, restarted my computer and have no plugins installed. I have also re-installed the program from the Creative Cloud application, although I haven't tried a full uninstall/reinstall sequence.
I'm running an x64 version of Windows and have tried both the 64 and 32 bit versions of Photoshop - neither works.
Other file formats don't appear to cause any issue - the problem is specific to PNG files (does Adobe Photoshop depend on any PNG library like LibPNG? Perhaps an older version has been installed by a different application?)
This issue seems to have occured in the past on the Adobe forums, but there is no clear resolution.Part of the information is missing but your running CC 14.1.2 not CC 2014, and14.1.2 needs to be updated to 14.2.1. I also can not see the date of you video drivers. Here is what my CC 2014 and my 14.2.1 looks like

Can't Open Photoshop-saved RAW file in Photoshop...
I've just gotten back from my school's library, where I was using one of the scanners to scan my negatives. I scanned the files directly into photoshop CS3. In retrospect, I absolutely should have saved in tiff, which has worked before, but this time I saved the files in raw. This is Photoshop Raw, not Camera Raw. I assumed that I could open these files back on my home computer (Photoshop CS4), but apparently I was wrong. If I try to open any of the raw files, I get a dialogue box called "Photoshop Raw Options", and if I hit "OK" I'm told something about missing color profiles, then I'm given an image of gray noise. If I change any of the settings in the dialogue box (files were saved at 16-bit grayscale with Mac byte order), I am told that "Specified image is larger than file," and I can't open the image.
What's going on? Why can't I open in Photoshop files that I just saved in Photoshop? Have my past few hours just been a total waste?jbz2105 wrote:
Have my past few hours just been a total waste?
Yep, pretty much unless you know the exact size and can correctly fill out the required dialogs required to open a Photoshop "raw" file. The "raw" format is not, as you've found out related at ALL to Camera Raw. It's really a holder over format from the early years used back when there weren't some file formats available on some computer systems...and yes, you SHOULD have used TIFF. -
Photoshop CS2 Saving a file as .jpg
I recently installed Photoshop CS2 in my Windows 8.1 machine and now when I create an image in PHotoshop I don't have an option for saving the file as a .jpg in the drop down menu Can anyone help?
With CS2, you have to make sure the image is flattened, there are not paths, no extra channels, in RGB colorspace, and 8bit. The current versions of PS does this for you, but not CS2.
BTW, you said you just installed CS2, which is a very old program. I hope you have a license for it. See this thread:

The finder used to make difference between Illustrator ans Photoshop .eps files except sometomes when these files came from a Windows PC, but now it doesn't work anymore and all .eps files are considereds as Photoshop .eps files.
How can I revert to original default settings?
Thanks. :-)Prior to Snow Leopard, Mac OS actually remembered what app created a file, and used that app when you double-clicked a file. Now, Snow Leopard goes entirely by the suffix, modified by any particular settings you have made for that file in Get Info.
If you want to recreate the old behavior, there is a third-party package called LaunchCodes that claims to do this.
More information about the removal of the creator code here:
