Saving a file as PDF from CC Illustrator

Just updated from CS3 to CC Illustrator. In the old CS3 if I saved a file as a PDF. Adobe acrobat would open and I would then see the file on the screen as a PDF. Now in CC the file just save as a PDF in illustrator and doesn't reopen so I can see the document large and clear with the trim marks and bleeds. Is there a setting I need to change?
Thanks in advance. Self trained illustrator user here with little experience:) Any help is appreciated.

In the PDF Save Options (second dialog), make sure this box is checked.

You need an app that supports such. Something like:

There are many such apps, search for yourself for something that meets your needs.

  • File, create PDF, from web page, entire site...questions

I am new to adobe, is this the proper forum for Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro for macintosh?  I think yes...
Created a PDF from:  File, create PDF, from web page, entire site.
Is there a way to print this without the background color?  If you printed from a browser, you could choose not to print the back ground color.  I know exactly the color.
Is there a way to make this PDF look like the web, with no page breakes?  I have tried various things, but the page breaks are always displayed.
Is there a way to create bookmarks on somthing other than the title tag in the web site?  The title tag is an SEO 1 sentence summary of the page, which makes for very long book mark names.
    Thanks for your help.

I don't use v9, but what I would do is click the FILE--PRINT option, print to PDF, and enter to print one page (default is first page)

  • Exporting file to pdf from internet, the document its in blank or incomplete

When i export a file to pdf from internet, the document is in blank or incomplete. Its the same if i donwload in a PC or opening online. The trouble is only in this PC, and i try with diferent browsers.
I try deleting temporary files, upgrading a latest version of Reader and modifying the security configuration in the browser.
    Any idea?

    Hi da23841142,
What are you using to export the file to PDF? Or, are you simply downloading a PDF file from the Internet, and then trying to view it in Reader? What version of Reader are you using, and are you on Mac OS or Windows?

    Hello everybody,

Is there anything i'm doing wrong?
Is there a setting I need to change for saving my files so they don't change?

    Hi,
Which operating system and version of photoshop cs6 are you using?
You can find out the exact photoshop cs6 version by going to Help>System Info from within photoshop and looking at the very first line that says Photoshop Version.

  • Getting general error when saving site using "create PDF from"

I'm using Adobe Acrobat Professional 8.0.0 for Mac, trying to save websites. This started working fine, but I had to shut down in the middle of a site being saved. Now when I try to save a site  using Web Capture/create PDF from I get a "general error, nothing was saved". What do I need to do, remove, replace, reinstall or whatever to get this feature working again?
Also can anyone tell me how to set the feature that saves web pages with the headers and footers showing date, time, URL, page title, etc. I often use the print feature (save to PDF) and up until a day or so ago it always saved with those headers and footers. Now they're missing, which is what prompted me to try saving entire sites, above. I remember setting these a long time ago and being able to choose what went on the left, right, header and footer, but I cannot find those settings now.
    Thanks,
    Michele

Well, after downloading Applejack, I am completely confused. I'm not sure I understand what will happen if I do any of these steps: see 3a.. "clean out all cache files including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures". What kinds of things will I lose? Can I choose only the Acrobat cache files?  I don't want to have to spend hours or days resetting things as I'm in the middle of a project with a close deadline. I also don't really understand fully what will happen with all the other things they discuss.  The instructions say (I just copied and pasted these):
    3.  Auto mode: You can let the script run through its tasks automatically by typing 'applejack auto'. If you want the machine to automatically restart at the end of its tasks, use 'applejack auto restart'. You can also tell the computer to shut down automatically at the end by using the command line 'applejack auto shutdown'.
3a. Deep Auto mode: If you want to let AppleJack clean out all cache files, including the Launch Services database and any cached User Pictures, use 'applejack AUTO' instead. Use this if you still have problems booting after running AppleJack already.
    4.  Interactive mode: To run through just one task, or to run the script manually, type 'applejack' and then choose tasks from the menu. Running the script in interactive mode has the benefit of giving you options for working with user level cache and preference files, not just the default system level caches and preferences. To select an option, type the highlighted number or letter associated with the action, and then hit return. Whenever you enter a choice in AppleJack, you will need to hit return for that choice to take effect.
    4.  Corrupted preference files are moved into a directory that will mirror the original preference directory, with (Corrupt) added to the directory name. For example, corrupt preferences files found in ~/Library/Preferences will be moved to ~/Library/Preferences (Corrupt). After running AppleJack, you'll probably want to take a look at them (and most likely throw out those folders). As of version 1.4.2, AppleJack now creates a copy of the directory tree inside the (Corrupt) folder so that if any files were deeply nested inside the original preference folder, they will be placed in an identical directory hierarchy in the new (Corrupt) folder. This way, if for any reason you would want to move a preference file back, you know where it should go.
    6.  AppleJack has a primitive logging mechanism. It writes a journal of most of its activity to /var/log/AppleJack.log. AppleJack will automatically reset the log the next time you run it, if the file should ever reach a size somewhat over 500k.

  • How to create a smallest file size pdf from indesign CS4 document

How to create a smallest file size pdf (suitable for upload to a website) from indesign CS4 document which contains multiple illustrator CS4 illustrations.
I have chosen the "smallest file size option" but the pdf file is over 30MB, can anyone help please.
    Thank you

    One trick is to
Set the placed graphics to have a transparency of 99.9% (you can do this with Find/Change and select Objects)
This is enough to force the graphics throught the Transparency Flattener
Next set the Transparency Blend Space to RGB (Edit>Transparency Blend Space)
Next set a custom Transparency Flattner Preset Edit>Transparency Flattner
    Next
    Use File>Export and choose
    Smallest file size
PDF Compatibility Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
In Advanced Section - go to transparency and selec the new Flattener Preset you created.
*this will convert your vectors to raster, but it should reduce your file size

  • Can you edit text after saving your file as pdf

I have recently created a letterhead in Illustrator.
Is there a way to change a person name and title after saving it as a pdf file? I heard something about creating a form in Acrobat professsional.
I need to print out a letterhead with different peoples name and title. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Can you edit the text in Acrobat Reader?
Yes, if you use Acrobat Pro to save the PDF as a Reader-enabled form.
    1. Create your letterhead in Illustrator (or whatever). Leave design space for, but do not create text objects that you want to be editable.
    2. Save as PDF.
    3. Open the PDF in Acrobat Pro. Use Acrobat's Form tools to add text fields whereever you want the end users to be able to key text.
    4. Select the Enable Reader Usage Rights command in Acrobat to make the form fields edtiable in Reader. Save the file.
Recipients of the PDF can now open it in Reader, edit the content of the fields, and save the file with their edits.

  • Re: Saving Greyscale File to PDF

This is a dumb question, but.....if I create a greyscale document in PS, and save it as a PDF, it stays greyscale, right???
    Thank you!!

Noel, pfaffenbichler, and Gernot -- thank you very much for your posts!!!!!  I appreciate your help !
I need the greyscale files to be placed in an InDesign publication, which I am creating.   Some of the greyscale files I create, some are sent to me in various formats (PDF, JPEG, Word, and Publisher files, mostly -- some are professionally created, some are not).  I create files in PS and/or ID (I know, I know, I should use AI, just never got the hang of it).  I prefer to save PS files as PDF's, because PSD's appear to be rasterized in ID (the text is no longer text).  When I receive PDF's from others, and convert them to greyscale in Acrobat, they become very dark, but at least retain the text as text.  If converted in PS, they mostly retain their original look -- BUT, then the text is no longer text!  What is the correct way of converting these files??
I will give more background.....Once a year, I use InDesign to create a booklet which is printed in CMYK, of course.  Last year, many of the black/white pages of the proof booklet had a color tinge to them.  I mentioned this to the printer, and he said he would fix it, which he did.  However, we had to print a handful more booklets, which the printer used my files, not the FIXED files, and the result was icky black & white pages.  This year, I asked the printer what I needed to do to fix this, and he said convert the files to greyscale in Photoshop.  Most of the pages which should be in greyscale, are ads which are sent to me, and I do not have the original; and a few are ads which I have created, therefore have the original files.
Long story short, I am trying to figure out the best way to be certain my black/white pages do NOT print with a color tinge, and are crisp/clear.
If you are still reading......everyone, thanks again for the help!!

  • Saving Framemaker file as PDF

I saved a FrameMaker 8 file as PDF using File>Save as > PDF. When double-clicked on the PDF, it showed a message "A number was out of range". I ignored the warning and clicked on OK, and the PDF opened.
I was not getting this error till now. Why does it occur now? How can I fix it? (I have a feeling that an Adobe update I installed may be behind this).

I encountered this problem in a PDF produced using the combination of FM8 + "Save as PDF".
The "number is out of range" message is displayed upon opening the PDF in Acrobat/Reader.
Upon inspecting the Initial View settings in Acrobat (under Initial View), an excessively large number was displayed to the right of the Open to Page box (1234567890).
It turned out that the "Fit Width" setting for the "At Zoom" option in FrameMaker's PDF Settings dialog box (+"Save as PDF") was consistently responsible for the strange value and the related error. When choosing a value of "Default" or "Fit Page", the PDF was produced correctly.
This problem was not encountered when printing to a .PS file and distilling.

  • Creation of a several-page PDF from an Illustrator file

I have created a leaflet in Illustrator as two print-ready files - one artboard containing front and back pages plus one containing the inner pages.
Now, the need has arisen to also publish the leaflet on the Web as a PDF containing all four pages. Is it possible to create such a file using Illustrator, or must I purchase InDesign for doing so?
And if this can be done using Illustrator, how do I do?
Hope that somebody can help. Thank you in advance.

    You have two options:
1/ Create file as a spread
2/ Create file as individual pages
If you're using CS4, no problem as you can create a new file with four pages / artboards and save to a single multi-page pdf. If you're on CS3 or earlier, you can do one of two things:
1/ Download the appropriate version of the MultiPage plugin from Hot Door: https://www.hotdoor.com/multipage
    or
2/ Create a multipage document in Illustrator. Here are a some links to tutorials on how to do that (Google will throw up more):
    http://www.sketchpad.net/multipage.htm
    http://en.allexperts.com/q/Adobe-Illustrator-1027/Multi-page-layout-illustrator.htm
    http://creativebits.org/illustrator/multiple_pages_in_illustrator
You then output by printing to a pdf...
    Hope that helps...
    S
Edit: Forgotten if you need to print or you can just save to a multi-page pdf. Of course, you may have to adjust the artwork a bit... specially if you have art that spans the 'spread' ...

  • How to make PDF file size smaller from an Illustrator file without changing the quality or size (length and width) of the file?

Is there a way to make a 30x42 size (40 GB) Illustrator file as a PDF but make the file smaller in size (able to email to clients) with out compromising the quality of the file or the size of the file?

If you are working in RGB you can embed a colour profile. Embed ICC Profiles is one of the Acrobat save options. It will increase files size dramatically.
When you save your pdf you can choose the compression method for placed images. Default is ZIP which is really no compression at all for pixel images. Instead you should opt for JPG compression (of varying degree according to how sensitive the images are to compression).
You should also examine the other Acrobat save options. To minimize file size you should not have any of the options checked (Preserve Illustrator Editing Capability, Embed page Thumbnails etc. etc.).
40 gigabytes for a file like the one you show is ridiculous. Did you maybe embed the placed images? If so, don’t. Keep them linked unless you really need to embed them.
