Saving a file in Illustrator CC for a different version

I have a free trial of Illustrator CC in my iMac, but I could find the way to save a file in order to open in Illustrator Cs6. I have watched videos when a window appears after select the 'save as' option and you can choose in which version you want to save it. However, these videos are from Windows, not Mac. Help me please! ASAP

It's exactly the same on a Mac as it is on Windows. There are a series of dialogs when using the save command. In the first, you choose the file type (.ai, .eps, .pdf or whatever) from the dropdown at the bottom center of the dialog and where you want the files saved. Then a second dialog appear depending on the file type selected with the save options for that file type. At the top center of this dialog is a dropdown where you can choose the version of AI to which you want the files saved.

Double file extensions keep showing up when saving a file in Illustrator CS3???

I just installed the CS3 suite and when I am saving files in illustrator I keep getting double file extensions. For example if I save a file named "filename" as a .eps file it shows up in the save window with filename.eps.eps Also, if I click through the possible file types to save it keeps adding them one after the other so if I click. say pdf eps and ai the file in the "Save As:" window looks like this " filename.pdf.eps.ai.ai" Any ideas why this is happening? I keep having to mouse click in the "Save As:" box and delete the extra extension. This is really annoying!!

I've seen extra periods (.) and extra extensions.
then you and Dave have the same conflict with a third party software, corrupt font, corrupt preference or the like because it is not happening o my Mac Pro and I have the same model Mac as you do and I am working fine in 10.5.1 and only problem I have had with AI CS 3 is when I tried to place a 3D CAD file with the extension .dxf which is not really supported.
I have not seen this even once. Would you like to see screen shots, it honestly is not a 10.5.1 or Illustrator issue on its own. This has to be user specific.

Trouble saving PS files in Illustrator

They are all simple, with two or three flat colors, one color per layer, no effects, shadows, etc. My client is having these printed in China using a type of silk screening process on mug-like items. The printer in China has asked me to resend the files in Illustrator. I am not familiar with Illustrator, but do own a copy of CS3, so I opened my PS file, dragged it to the AI icon and saved it as a layered AI file. The problem is that when I print it out on my Epson printer the AI file looks a little more fuzzy around the edges than the PS file. I checked Document Raster Effects setting in AI (a warning said it was at 72 dpi) and changed it to 300 dpi. That helped a little. But, there still is a small difference so I am wondering if there is anything else I can do to make the objects appear as smooth in AI as they are in PS. I am a little out of my depth here so I hope someone can help. (I have posted this to the Photoshop forum and it was suggested I post it with the Illustrator side as well) Thanks so much!

As Monika said, unless you properly vectorize everything, there is no point in just embedding the PSDs in AI. Since you speak of "simple, with two or three flat colors", I'm afraid you started off on the completely wrong foot by doing it in PS in the first place. This screams "it needs to be vector" all over the place, the reason being that for silk screen you create a sieve mask for each color and for maximum sharpness of these masks, vectors work better. It's not an ultimate requirement, though, but based on that info, as a minor you must familiarize yourself with how to create spot color separations using multichannel/duoton/tritone documents in Photoshop. It may still cause fuzzy edges, but at least you should get clean colors. Otherwise you need to learn AI and re-draw all elements there, assigning proper color swatches which then could be used to create proper separations..."
I would appreciate being directed to a good tutorial on how to create the spot color separations spoken of here-is there one anyone recommends? Thanks!

Saved PDF files in Illustrator not showing when opened in Reader

I'm having a problem with files saved as PDFs in Illustrator, which, when opened in Reader
reveal only a blank page. Any solutions?

Thanks for your response. It doesn't seem to matter which layer is higher in the stack. I also checked that each layer was set to "print". I think the problem is on the Mathematica side --- the problem I have arises with pdf graphics generated in Mathematica 8, but not in 9. Hmm.

Intermittent Bug when saving pdf files in Illustrator CS6

I save a pdf file in Illustrator CS6 with a specific art board size. When I open it in Acrobat the size is off. When our print's RIP's the file, it is off the same amount. I will re-open it in Illustrator and re-save it and just change the name, the artboard is then correct. This is very intermittent. It has happened on two copies of CS6. Both prograns are current with the updates. I am on a iMac running OS 10.6.8.

Document size is: 36.01 x 98.12
I can open up both documents in Illustrator and they are identical.
We have been using these presets for a couple of years without issue. The problem started happening about 3 weeks ago on 2 seperate computers. We have not seen the problem with CS5.5 and earlier.

Saving PDF files from illustrator

Can anybody help we are having an issue with illustrator cs3 and cs4 when saving pdf files
as you can see this is the file in illustrator and the images butt togeather with a black line down the middle when we then save the pdf and we have tried different options it moves the image, the images are placed eps images. This is not file specific as we have tried other files/images.

Yes I think I understand the problem and I believe it is expected behavior and I will explain.
You must convert the images to cmyk in photoshop first before placing them in Illustrator or convert them after but since they are linked the conversion has to take place in photoshop by using the link panel to edit the original.
Now it should work as expected but I did this without the using a black key line on the rectangle I used for my clipping so once you have the rectangles position if you still find you have this problem then go bak and redo the clipping mask without the black stroke.
This is my result in Acrobat with the images converted to cmyk so I am positive you stated with RGB and did not convert before placing.
As you can at 6400% magnification it is fine. This is the top edge of the two butted images when saved as pdf after converting the files to cmyk in Photoshop. PDX 1a supports CMYK.

We have made a BACS run on 26/06/2009 for company codes 1000, 1100,
1200, 1300, 1500, 1600, 1700, 2000, 2100 & 8000.
And we happened to notice that for company codes 1000 & 1500 the DME
file generated is same.
File path for 1000E run is /ERP/PR0/JCAPS/SCMI26/2009062612364801 &
File path for 1500E run is /ERP/PR0/JCAPS/SCMI26/2009062612364801.
Can any one let us know why has the system generated same file numbers for
2 different runs. Request you to help us to know what has caused this
problem.

Hi,
ARe you using program RFFOGB_T to create the DME files? If you are storing the files in the file system (looking at the path it seems that you are) then you have to provide a specific file name for each file, else the files will be overwritten. SO create a variant for program RFFOGB_T per company code and store the specific file names in the variants. Else store the files in Temse and then use the download function where a file name can be entered prior to saving the file on your workstation. Using Temse you can also manage the DME's through transaction FDTA.

Static version support for two different versions

our applet just supports java pluin verion 1.4.1_01 and 1.4.1_02. the applet encounts a security permisson problem with 1.4.1_03.
i would like to let our customers choose between different versions newer than 1.4.1 except verion 1.4.1_03.
is there any way to define the call for the applet to support only 1.4.1_01 or 1.4.1_02. i thought about listing to different clsid?
has anybody encountered the same problem? how can I meet this requirements?

You could try signed applets though that may not be an option for you. Otherwise you will need to remove the lines of code generating the security permission. Usually, there may be a way around it, but you'll need to post with what it is throwing the security exception. You could try to specify in your tab what plugin version to use but that is as far as you may be able to go.
Try to specify it in your tag like this or use htmlconverter in your java sdk bin directory.

Saving Sliced files in Illustrator CS6 like it was in CS5 "Save for web and devices" gone?

Hello,
I used to save all my slices in CS5 and it would give me the option to save for web and devices, then when I was in there it would let me choose the option at the bottom Other... then I could go in and save it as a html and images and then it would automatically make div's for me when I brought it in to dreamweaver. Where did this option go in CS6? Can someone help I am on a big deadline, and I lost all my work transfering it back into cs5 to try it there like I used to. Attached is a .png to show what I mean.

How can a get a full function distiller dialog box for saving PDF files in Illustrator?

I would like to know if there is some type of plug-in, etc. out there that would allow me to have all the functionality of a Distiller dialog box when I save a PDF out of Illustrator CS5. Right now, I just have what comes installed with Illustrator. It's a stripped down version of what you would find in distiller.

In what way is it stripped down? Can you explain what features you want?

Error while working and saving .PDF files from Illustrator CS 5.1

One of my partners has been facing issues while working with Adobe Illustrator PDF Files, especially while saving them. We've lost so many hours of work with these errors. We own an early 2009 iMac (MB418LL/A) running OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5). You can see the specs in this link:

Just to make sure: Where are you/is she saving?
Here it is always recommended to open/save AI documents from/to own harddisk, and to only copy from/to externals such as local server/whatever.
The reason is that with the latter, AI files tend to get corrupted sooner or later, so you may be lucky for a while but it hurts when your luck runs out.

Illustrator CC 17.0 and 17.1 saving .ai files as Illustrator artwork files

I have Illustrator CC 17.1 and when I save a file as a .ai file, it saves it as an Adobe Illustrator Artwork 17.0 file. When I try to open the file later, I get a "file is in an unknown format and cannot be opened. " How do I fix this?

If there is no solution to be found through the suggested links in the first post, you may try to go through the following list, and/or hope that one of our forum staff friends spots this thread.
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

How do you set up iTC for two Different versions of the same app?

I have been reading the iTC Developer Guide searching for the answer to this question, but so far I have found nothing that would help. I plan on having a Lite and a Pro version of my app, and I may also have an iPad version as well.
I have seen some iPhone icons which differentiate these app by using a slightly different icon for the Lite and Pro versions, but how these are submitted to the app store is what I would like to know. And, for the sake of clarity, they will be priced differently as well.
