Saving a filled-in secure form in Reader?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere in the forums. I've just not been able to find anything that answers this...
I've created a form for a client in Acrobat 9 Pro. Security is set to allow printing and "Filling in form fields and signing existing signature fields." My problems begin when opening the form in Reader X.
The instructions in Reader says "Click 'Sign' to fill out and sign this form. When you are done, you can save a copy by clicking 'Done Signing'"
I click "Sign" and fill-in the form fields. However, "Done Signing" never turns live in the sidebar. It remains grayed-out. The only option available is to "Send Signed Document" using Adobe's EchoSign system. However, doing so simply sends a blank form, with none of the fields filled-in.
Save As... doesn't appear to be an option either, as it will only save a blank copy of the form.
How does a user fill-in and save a secured form in Reader X? Will I have to remove all security from the form altogether? Or is a user doomed to have to use EchoSign...which apparently only saves a blank version?
Side observation: That sidebar is very confusing to the user. What's "Add Text" for? It could easily be assumed that the user needs to click that in order to fill-in the fields. And, there's no need for anyone to sign or "Place Signature" in this form. How can a user avoid this altogether?

If it needs to be saved with Reader, the document has to be Reader-enabled. To do this with Acrobat 10, select: File > Save As > Reader Extended PDF > Enable Additional Features
The EchoSign related stuff in Reader should be ignored for a form like this.
Note that Reader 11, which will be released shortly, is able to save a non-enabled form, but not if the form uses digital signatures. If it does, it will need to be Reader-enabled.

how do I allow a user to save a filled in fillable form in reader?
I created a form in livecycle and i want other users that i send it to, to be able to save that they have typed.

    Hi,
Try reader extending the form.  Opening the form in Acrobat and then do File ... Save As Other ... Reader Extended PDF ... Enable more tools (includes form fill-in and save).
That's for Acrobat XI, it's different for other versions, might be under tools in earlier ones.

  • Filling out enabled forms in Reader 10 vs Reader 11

Reader 10 requires you to "sign" in order to save the form but Reader 11 does not.
The message (in purple banner) in 10 is:
Click 'sign' to fill out and sign the form. When you are done, you can save a copy by clicking 'Done Signing'
The message in Reader 11 is
Please fill out the following form. You can save data typed into this form.
I have both versions so I saved in v10 after "signing" which not a requirement of the form I built.
Reopening in 10 does not allow me to enter any more data . Message in purple banner is gone.
This is a problem as the form is 14 pages long and most folks do not have all their answers together at one sitting.
Reader 11 allows me to partially complete, save, close, reopen and continue filling out the form.
Is this really the way these versions work?

  • Unable to fill in fillable form Adobe Reader XI

We are migrating users in our Virtual Environment (Citrix Xendesktop) from Windows XP to Windows 7. We have a form that our HR department has been using with no issues on the XP Citrix Image but after being converted to Windows 7 the form will not allow you to fill it in. It Displays the purple bar at the top and the highlight fields is selected but when you click on one of the fields it does not allow you to type anything.
I have turned off Protected Mode since that is something I saw  in another post.

What Reader version are you using?  If less than 11.0.06, update to this version.

  • Filling out secure forms

I am filling out a government form.  It has a purple bar across the top.  I checked a box I did not want to check, and I can't uncheck it.  I tried the escape key...no luck.  How can I uncheck the box?  I don't want to start over!

They may not be images, but they are not form fields. You can create your own form fields with the form tool. I have all the tools turned on and it is right next to the crop tool. As I recall, to get the form tool, you had to add the other updates to AA5. However, as long as you have AA5 with the form tool, just use it to create your own fields and type away.
I tend to use the text touchup tool in such cases and simple hold the ctrl key as I place the cursor. That will also do the job.

  • Why can't I fill out pdf form using Reader on Android Devices?

Sorry, but support for PDF forms is not yet available in Adobe Reader for Android. More features will appear over time, but we cannot be specific about which or when.

  • Adobe Reader X Crashes after filling a specific form field

I've recently upgraded to Adobe Reader X on some of our systems.  Now I have a user unable to fill out a form without reader crashing.  I've duplicated the issue on my PC, and confirmed that the form is functional with Reader 9.4.1 running on another system.
The pdf we're having issues with is here:
    http://www.ime.state.ia.us/docs/CrossOverProfessional.pdf
Usersa re able to fill out everything up to the field #21, titled "Billed Amount".  When a dollar amount is entered in this field, adobe reader crashes.  If I skip this field, reader also crashes when a dollar amount is entered in field #22, Allowed amount.  All other fields on the page can be filled out without issue.
This document does seem to do some data verification as you leave a field, checking to confirm the data entered is the right number of digits, alpha or numeric, dates in the correct format, etc.  I suspect whatever type of checks it's trying to do on these two dollar amount fields must be causing the error.
Is this a bug in how Reader X handles forms created in previous versions of acrobat?  Short of asking for the form to be updated, is there anything I can do to make this work with Reader X, or do I need to roll back to version 9 for now?
    Thanks!

Thanks.  I've posted there as well.  Anyone know if there's a workaround to keep reader from crashing with this form, or is my only option to roll back the servers until the creator of the form updates it?
(I have notified their webmaster of the issue, but who knows how long it will take the state to update the form.)

  • Using Database to fill in pdf forms

I have a question regarding using live cycle to fill out pdf forms using a data base. I am creating a side of my web site which would allow our members to select from preloaded pdf forms and fill them in automatically from their profiles on our data base.
The two essential components would be: a separate form created by the web site that reflects the pdf form.
A data base which builds the members profile every time they fill out a new form.
    Steps to Using Site
    1. Member selects a form from one of three areas
    2. Form is filled from the members profile
    3. Custom made form is created out of fields not covered profile to be filled out by member.
    4. Custom made form adds to profile
    5. Updated profile finishes filing out the pdf form.
    6. Finalized PDF created
In order to have the website work intelligently and eventually fill out the majority of the form by itself, it will be necessary to standardize the field names common to all the forms. This will allow the profile information to find the correct fields that correlate to the database for every form.
As the member continues to use the site and build their profile, they will have less and less to fill in as the database will automatically do the work for them. Eventually, a member should be able to just choose a form and have it automatically filled and ready in a printable English version pdf format.
Is there anyway to do this through Live Cycle? I am not a programmer or a developer. However, I have business which has required looking into this. I would be willing to pay someone to help me with this. If any one should have any suggestions or can offer me their services, (paid of course) I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thank You in Advance,
    Maurice Kirksey

What application (including version number) are they using to fill-in these forms?

  • Adobe Reader unable to fill in Secured Fillable Adobe Forms on ipad

I am unable to fill in my Adobe Fillable Secure Form using Adobe Reader. Help!

Currently, the Adobe Reader mobile products (Reader for iOS, Android) do not allow users to make changes (including filling in form fields) to secure/protected PDF documents (whose contents are encrypted).  Because saving encrypted data has not been supported yet.
Please use the desktop version of Adobe Reader on a Windows or Mac computer to fill in the secured fillable forms, instead.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Fill and save form in Acrobat Reader + checkbox problem

I use Acrobat Pro X to create fillable forms and then save the file as Reader Extended PDF - Enable Additional Features, and when I want to open it and fill it in in Acrobat Reader, I get a pop-up saying I can only save it as a blank document.
Another issue I'm having is that when I fill it in Preview and save it, everything saves except the checkboxes, they are always blank.
Could this be because I'm using Mac OS X Lion?

I'm sure I open the one that I save as enabled version but it does sound like the file is just being saved as a regular PDF. Here is the screenshot below of the security settings, I'm not sure exactly what the enabled version is supposed to show.
And here is the message I'm getting:

  • Fillable\Fill-In Forms Crashing Reader?

We're having an issue among several of our users with fillable forms... Reader XI (11.0.08.4) randomly decides to crash while users are trying to fill in the forms. Nothing extreme just answering questions on a form. I've tried a few solutions already:
    - Re installing Reader XI
    - Saving as an Optimized PDF and as Reduce File Size
    - Saving with a different PDF version (tried 1.3-1.6)
    - Saving with a different Acrobat Version Compatibility (tried versions 4.0-10.0)
    - Turning off Enhanced Protected Mode
    - Unchecking/checking any and all options under Preferences > Forms, tried every combination of settings
    - Remaking the forms in a different application entirely (Nuance Power PDF), still crashes
This doesn't happen every time a fillable form is used nor with every user or a specific user, it's very sporadic. But it happens (eventually) with all fillable forms. I have Acrobat installed on my PC (running Win 7) and can replicate the crashing there too.
Any support or suggestions are very much appreciate!

Cannot reproduce on Windows 7 (Adobe Reader 11.0.09) either.  Tried first with your form only, then with a second (different) form open, filling in data alternating between the two.
One thing you could try on the systems where the crashes occur: disable Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • Any limitation on number of fill and print forms I can post on my website and have external users with Reader fill in, print and mail to me? (I don't need/want them to be able to fill and save data.)

I would like to post fillable only forms to the public but not give them the option to save or email the filled in form. If they want a copy of what they've filled in, they must print it.
I believe I can do this by just creating a fillable PDF and posting it without adding any reader extension capabilities. I also believe there is no limitation, as there is for fill and save forms as per this other post I read: Adobe Acrobat X Pro * Enable Reader users to save form data.
My IT department is telling me they will not allow me to post fillable PDFs online due to a "license limitation" so I started researching this myself, and the above link is the only thing I've found. While that post specifically outlines the limitations on saving filled in forms, I'm really looking for something that specifically tells me that there is no limitation on fillable, non-saveable (yes, I know that's not a word...) forms.
If anyone can provide additional information for me, I'd appreciate it. Or, if I'm completely wrong in my belief and there's a limitation either way, feel free to set me straight. I'd rather know the correct answer than be right!
    Thanks!!

If you don't Reader-enable a document, then there are no licensing restrictions involved. Note that Reader 11 and all versions of Acrobat are able to save non-enabled forms, unlike previous versions.
The question should not be whether a form is savable, but rather whether you used Acrobat to add usage rights to the form AND you (the licensee) plan on receiving filled-in instances (including hardcopies) of it. The simplest way is to not Reader-enable the form and convince your users to use Reader 11 (or Acrobat) if they want to save.

  • Save filled form as read only

I have created a form that will be filled in  and saved with the new input.  Once saved, the filled form will be emailed to other people. Is there a way to save this as read only? Or a setting that makes sure whoever opening the email cannot still edit the form?

You cannot really prevent it from being changed you can just make it harder. The easiest way to to flatten the file. It will remove all fields, but retain the entries as if they were in the original file. It will also flatten annotations. You can find the flatten command in the Preflight dialog box. There are javascripts around the net that can put the command on your toolbar.

  • I am filling out a form that requires me to put a passport photo using Adobe Reader.

I am filling out a form that requires me to put a passport photo using Adobe Reader.
However, when I click on the square to insert the photo, a screen pops up telling me to "select a PDF file and import it as an image" and just an "OK" button to press.
When running the debugger, I get NotAllowedError: Security settings prevent access to this property or method. Field.buttonImportIcon:6:Field Click here to add a photo:Mouse Up. Any way around it? Below is the problem I'm talking about.

    Thanks for your reply.
I've converted  photos into pdf format and it still won't allow me to insert the photo. I wouldn't know whether it'd be too large or small since I cannot insert it in the first place.
"Warning: Javascript Windows: Select the PDF file to import this button as an image" is the message that keeps appearing. I can't seem to find anything related to this.

  • Adobe Acrobat form created and emailed but recipient cannot save the form in reader after filling it out

When I purchased Acrobat today, the Adobe sales rep told me I could create fill-in forms that I could email to others, who could fill them out using Adobe Reader.  When the recipient tried to save the completed form, he was unable to save it to his computer, only able to print.  Is this correct, or is there a step we are unaware of?  He owns Adobe Acrobat Pro 9, but I'm using Acrobat 11 (purchased it today).  Acrobat Pro 9 cannot open the forms I sent...  now we are stuck.
    Solutions?

    Hi DMOliver,
Please try saving the form as 'Reader Extended' and check.
