Saving a freeze frame so I can retrieve it in Finder
How do I save a freeze frame from Final Cut Pro 7 so I can retrieve it in Finder?
Either load the clip you want to get the freeze frame from in the viewer, or if the freeze frame will come from a sequence, load the sequence in the canvas.
Scrub to the frame you wish to freeze, and park the scrubber there.
Mark an in-point and an out-point on that frame (type the "I" key and the "O"key).
Once the frame has been marked with both an in and out point, go to the menu File > Export > Using QuickTime Conversion . . .
When the Export Save pane opens, choose Format: Sitll Image, and click on the option button to choose the file format.
Navigate to where you want to store the still, name it, and click Save.
This works for pulling single still frames, one at a time.
If you want to pull multiple still frames - say you need to get 30 selected stills from a clip - there is a different way to do that.

I've done this in the past when I was on FCP3, now I've upgrade to 6 and it's a little different. All of my options are OfflineRT HD, NTSC and PAL. It says Photo JPEG but just saves it as a .mov. How do do this?
Use Export as Quictime Conversion and select still image. You can set the prefence for JPEG

I wish to export several frames from iMovie as if they were images (like JPEGs or TIFFs). Is it possible to do this using iMovie, if so how? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I've already managed to 'add a freeze frame' to isolate the desired frames but I can't export it. Thanks.

Can you add transitions in iMovie11 between two freeze frames?
I am trying to add a transition between two freeze frames but when I do, my entire movie goes black and appears to freeze. My freeze frames are over 30 seconds long so timing shouldn't be an issue. Any suggestions?
As I show you in my book, you select several clips on your timeline at once and right-click, you will find the option to Add Default Transition to all.
You can set your Default Transition by right-clicking a transition in the Transitions panel. -
How do I retrieve a older backup on itunes that I saved last week in the PC. Currently, it shows the latest backup was yesterday, but I need the backup I saved on 18.10.13. Can anyone help?
It keeps only the last backup.

My power went off and I have lost a word file I was working on. Was this file saved automatically anywhere where I can retrieve?
It may have been if you had autosave activated. I've never had that happen so I don't know where the file is put. I would expect Word would ask you if you wanted to retrieve a saved version when you next started it in those circumstances.

Can I freeze frame on the iMovie app and turn the freeze frame into a picture?
Experiencing the same issue. Fired up iMovie for the first time today and created 2 movies. The first was 35 seconds long and the 2nd was 1 min 45 seconds long. Got all my pics loaded up and added a song from my personal collection. Plays perfectly from the phone. The problem occured when I tried to export the larger movie. The first time I tried, it sat at the exporting movie status bar (without moving) and then closed the app. After relaunching the app, it told me that my audio file had been removed from the phone. After closing and re-opening the iMovie app again, my movie project played fine through the app but as soon as I tried to export again it rebooted my phone. I tried exporting on all 3 size options (Medium, Large, HD) and it did not matter. I tried multiple songs thinking perhaps that was my issue, but each one did the same thing. I tried the lock-screen time-out fix but that didn't help either. I have no problems exporting my smaller movie file (35 seconds)using any of the export sizes. This leads me to believe that the issue is soley related to the length of the project...or perhaps the number objects located in the project. In either case, it's definitely an app issue. I do love the app though...when it works.

I would like to export a freeze frame from my Final Cut Ten timeline onto my desktop for transfer. I'm not sure how to do this. It was a lot easier to do in Final Cut Express. Any help please?
Now it's added into the preferences. Put the playhead over the clip you want. Then go to the Share button and you'll see Save Current Frame

SusanAnd if you want to use the freeze frame in other apps, like Photoshop, place the Timeline playhead on the frame you want, then go to File->Export->Using QuickTime Conversion. In the export window, use the drop-down FORMAT menu near the bottom left of the window and choose Still Image. In the Options drop-drown menu, choose the still image file type you want (JPG, PNG, TIF, etc).

Thanks.I've torn out half my hair trying to answer the same question. I think I have an answer and it had nothing to do with the many hours I've spent in Adobe's help and Forum to get an answer. I had to figure it out myself.
Here it is: Because CS4 handles HD video, they don't export straight to JPEG. They export to TIFF which is higher resolution than JPEG. That's my guess, anyway. To export a frame grab, go to FILE>EXPORT>MEDIA. On the top right side of the window in the Format box, click the down arrow to open the list and select TIFF. Click Okay.
Another box will open up. This is the Adobe Media Encoder window. Yeah it's new to me too.
The file you are trying to export should show up in the box with all it's wonderful detail including where you want it to go. If you want to change the name of the exported frame, click on the 'Output File' portion of the detail and a 'Save As' window will pop up and you can rename the file. Otherwise, CS4 will give it a generic name for you and you'll have to go find it.
When you get done click 'Okay' and it takes you back to the Media Encoder window. From there click on 'Start Que' and the file gets saved. Click on the upper right X and the Media Encoder window closes. There is no 'Done' or 'Close' button that I can find.
Somehow I got my file to save as a JPEG the first time but I'm unable to duplicate my steps now, so just know that it can be done and be willing to experiment a little from here. If you click on Add, it offers the JPEG format but it's trying to OPEN a file instead of SAVE. I'll have to keep working on that part.
I hope this helps. These turkeys at Adobe should hire me as a troubleshooter and manual writer - I spend a lot of time trying to figure out things they don't document in the manual or help files. As for the Forum - they can stuff that, it's useless. This should be an exquisitely simple task - we all do frame grabs. But they've made it into a monstrous chore. -
I did a freeze-frame on the last frame of a video segment. I saved the frame as the default .bmp format. I then made it 7 seconds in length with a fade-out.
My problem is that when burned to a DVD, instead of being solid, the freeze frame jitters badly.
It seems smooth in PRE (v7). It seems smooth when I play the exported .AVI in Windows Media Player (although it looks all interlace-y). I was going to try "Frame Blend", which fixes some jitters on time-stretched video, but that option is grayed out for stills.
Is there something I can do to prevent the jitter? It really ruins the effect I was going for!Well, good news! I got it working. My freeze frame is now rock-solid!!
I did the Flicker Removal - that's a good tip to know. It's now on my "cheat sheet".
One odd thing I noticed was when I opened the "freeze frame" .BMP that PRE had generated, the .BMP itself had interlace lines in it! Obviously I didn't want that, so I did the freeze frame again. But this time, the exported .BMP was fine (no interlace lines).
I don't think I did anything differently. About the only thing I can think of is that currently the clip is Time Stretched and Frame > Blended. Maybe when I did the original freeze frame (that gave me an interlaced .BMP) it was either not Time Stretched and/or not Frame > Blended? -

How do I remove a freeze frame from my video? I think I put it in there by using the camera icon and set it for a certain duration. Now I cannot get rid of it.Thanks for your replies. Sorry I haven't had time to check back before today. Neither of these approaches seems to work. If I simply left click on the frozen frame and then right click, it gives me a GRAYED OUT option to "Delete and close gap" but because it is GRAYED OUT nothing happens - the feature does not work. I tried to cut the clip just before it and just after it, then group it and delete it and that did not do it either. It only deleted the two tiny clips, but not the frozen frame I really wanted out. This is really driving me crazy. I have gone on and fixed most everything I want to fix in the project, but still want to remove frozen frame. I cannot find out how to simply remove it. When I find the help section to add a "freeze frame" it doesn't seem to tell me how to delete it. The only time I can delete it is if I have not saved the project since I added it. Thanks again for your help. I dont' seem to have any other functionality issues that I am aware of.

FCP X / Motion 5 Drop Zone Video Freeze Frames Only!
Hmmm, well, I've followed the other discussions here regarding what appears to be an on-going issue with videos not playing (freeze frame only - usually the first frame of the clip) in a Drop Zone. I'm using the latest versions of both FCP X (10.1.1) and Motion 5 (5.1). I created a video generator in Motion with 15 drop zones for use in an open for a project I just started on. These drop zones are sliding left and right in three bands across the canvas. I can't get any of them to display moving video. I've used drop zones before and had some success with getting video clips to play in them, but in this case I'm batting zero.
Has anyone found a way around this problem? I may just import the videos into Motion and render them there since this open more than likely won't ever be used for any other project; nevertheless, I'd like to be able to use the Motion 5 template as it was designed to be used.
Thanks.The good news, Russ, is that I've made some progress! To say that using Drop Zones can be a bit quirky is an understatement! Nevertheless, your Pro Res hint seems to have fixed my issue. I've been recutting the clips from the master archived files and saving them as Pro Res 422. The file size is considerably larger that the H.264 files, but since it works I guess I won't argue that point! :-)
I need to do a bit more investigation of this next point, but it also seems as if I need to move a frame or three into the clip before inserting it into the drop zone. I had just been taking the clip and dumping it in as is. When doing that I noticed that in some cases the clip either didn't play (freeze frame) or it started at some random (or at least what seemed to be random) location within the clip. However, since I moved the start point in 2 or 3 frames (end point doesn't seem to matter) so far, at least, the clip plays every time and starts from the proper point.
I don't know if this mattered or not, but I completely deleted the library with the project and event that I was originally trying to edit to. Since it wasn't working anyway there is nothing lost and I felt it was worth starting the project "fresh", so to speak.
So far I've only re-clipped and inserted 5 of the 15 drop zone videos but for now, at least, they are all working!

Unable to change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in User Pref Edit tab
Process-selected new project, change Still/Freeze Frame Duration in user preferences on the edit tab.
Need to change to 10 minutes. Typed in the field 00:10:00:00. When I hit ok, I get a beep and it defaults back to what was in there, 01:00:00:00. So tried a larger number 02:00:00:00. Same result. A beep.
So went ahead with project and opened a sequence and tried to change it from the viewer. Same issue.
Trashed prefs and started from scratch. Same issue.
Ideas?Trashed prefs rebooted originally.
Process as follows for trashing prefs. First time through I had opened a project. This time did not.
Open Home Folder
Open Library
Open Preferences
Delete com.apple.finalcutpro.plist
Open Final Cut Pro User Data
Delete Final Cut Pro 5.0 Prefs
Delete Final Cut Obj Cache
Delete Final Cut Prof Cache
Run disk utility to repair permissions.
Reboot.
Did not open a project this time.
Same issue but now I am able to put a slug in the time line and by selecting clip properties, can set the duration (was not able to do this before so some progress). Still can't set duration though as earlier described from edit tab on the user preferences page for still/freeze duration.
