Saving a mov file as a 24 bit uncompressed avi

I have a MOV file that I created in LiveType. I need to convert it to a 24 bit uncompressed avi - I tried in Compressor (v3.0.5) but couldn't find a way. I tried in Quicktime Pro and saved it as an uncompressed 36bit avi, but don't know how to reduce it town to 24bit -- is it just reducing the colours to thousands or something?
Argh!

Why do you need to make it to that specification?
Tell us what you are trying to do -what is the recipient going to do with the file?
Maybe we can help you find another way to do this that will be acceptable to your client.

  • Unable to view .mov files on Vista 64 bit system:

I use a MacBook Pro to download videos from a Canon HD camcorder.  These files are saved as *.mov files.  While I can view these files on my MacBook Pro, I cannot import/view them on my Windows based PC, using PRE 8.  I purchased this software because it was supposed to support editing .mov files.  When I try to import a .mov file I get and error "Codec missing or unavailable."  Shouldn't the codec for .mov files be included in PRE 8?  Any ideas on how to solve this issue?

    Thank you for your response.
I have download the latest version of QT twice, even purchased QT pro, no luck.  I have even re-installed PRE 8.
I have updated my video drivers and downloaded GSpot and MediaInfo to see what codec's I need.  According to everything I've read and done, PRE 8 should work.  Just as a side note; in QT pro for Windows, I can import .mov files but only the audio plays no video.

  • How to Export UYVY 4:2:2 8-bit Uncompressed AVI?

I've been doing a lot of testing in Premiere Pro CS5 (on Windows) but cannot figure out how to export video to a generic 4:2:2 8-bit uncompressed AVI file. Here's some background - I've captured some video to an uncompressed Matrox AVI file (via an MXO2 I/O Device). Now I've done some simple cutting and need to get the video off Premiere's timeline (and into another yet-to-be-determined multimedia application). I don't want to lose any quality - hence my requirement for 4:2:2 uncompressed AVI. Also, the file needs to be a standard/generic AVI that doesn't require any special CODECs installed.
In Premiere's File > Export > Media window, there seems to be 2 ways of getting uncompressed 4:2:2 AVIs:
    Option 1:
    Format: Uncompressed Microsoft AVI
    Video Codec: UYVY
    Quality: 100
    Width: 720
    Height: 576
    Frame Rate: 25
    Field Type: Upper First
    Aspect: PAL (1.0940)
    Audio Codec: Uncompressed
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Type: 16 bit
    Option 2:
    Format: Microsoft AVI
Video Codec: Uncompressed UYVY 422 8bit
    Quality: (Greyed out at 100)
    Width: 720
    Height: 576
    Frame Rate: 25
    Field Type: Upper First
    Aspect: PAL (1.0940)
    Audio Codec: Uncompressed
    Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
    Channels: Stereo
    Sample Type: 16 bit
    Audio Interleave: 0
Option 1 is great except that the audio codec detected is "0xfffe extensible wave format" (according to GSpot). I can play the video on practically any machine including something as old as Windows Media Player 9 running on Windows 2000! The audio plays back fine as well in Windows Media Player. However, audio does not play (not detected correctly) in VLC media player, or in Sony Vegas-type software. FYI, the video codec detected (by GSpot)  is "UYVY (packed 4:2:2)".
Option 2, on the other hand, is quite the contrary. The video does not play in any version of Windows Media Player (regardless of operating system), but the audio plays fine though. The audio codec detected (according to GSpot) is the standard "PCM audio" format and the video codec is again "UYVY (packed 4:2:2)". In VLC media player, both the video and audio play fine. But in other editing software such as Edius, the video is not detected and only the audio is loaded onto the timeline.
What I would like is a generic 4:2:2 uncompressed AVI file which has audio that works in anything. Is there some setting/parameter that I have missed? Can I customise Option 1 with "PCM audio" rather than "0xfffe extensible wave format"? I want to avoid "Video Codec: None" if at all possible given that the file size will be significantly larger for absolutely no quality gain (I presume this is uncompressed 4:4:4?).
Any suggestions would be most welcome.

Hi Jim, I too am confused!
Why should the video codec for Option 1 be V210? Isn't this reserved for 10-bit video?

    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/premierepro/cs/using/WS398C372B-B748-4ef6-BA0D-396D2E360707.ht ml
I would have thought that the UYVY option was the correct choice for 8-bit video.
    http://www.fourcc.org/yuv.php#UYVY
Videos exported using Option 2 definately do not play correctly in Windows Media Player - I get no video, just audio. I have tried many different computers running different versions of Windows and Windows Media Player. I'm running Premiere CS5 v5.03 if that makes any difference.
I don't understand why videos from Option 1 play fine in Windows Media Player even though the systems don't have AJA hardware installed (or any video I/O device) - they are just plain vanilla office PCs

  • Highest quality slideshow saved to movie file is has terrible resolution in PE12, but PDFs look great. What's up?

I've saved a PE12 slideshow as the highest quality available, but the resolution is low when viewing. When saved as a PDF the resolution is outstanding. Does anyone know how I can get better resolution from the movie file?

How are you creating the video file? PSE itself can only record in the horrid outdated VCD format. Output your slideshow to a WMV file and then use PRE, if you have that, or whatever burning software you have to finalize the video.

  • Issues with saving as .mov file in iMovie OS X 10.9

ever since i updated to the new OS X 10.9 Maverick, and the update with iMovie, i can no longer seem to save my finalised videos in a .mov format (when you used to go to the drop down menu "share", and select a quick time format), but this is my preferred way of finalising videos. is there any way to do this in the latest updated version of iMovie?

As I see, the only option is to share to Theater, iTunes or a file. But there is no option to choose export format and bitrate.

  • Saving I Movie Files

A few years ago I purchased an external hard drive and since my older computer had a smaller HD I worked and saved all my I movie stuff to the external HD. • Can't open .mov files for iMovie editing; can't even view in QuickTime, etc

Our band recently had a videographer record our performance using two panasonic hd cameras: AG-HVX200 and HPX170. Both were set to hd 720 X (?) at 30 fps.
All files were saved as .mov files.
We can't see them at all. We were told that they were designed to be opened in Final Cut Pro (which we told him not to do).
We do have Final Cut Express, but neither FCE nor iM allows us to select the files ("grey'ed" out).
Can someone please help us understand how to open these files? Do we need a specific codec?
    Thanks much.

I am no expert on DVC Pro HD, but here is what I found out.
    HD compression format by Panasonic.
Similar compression type to DV 25 but uses a higher bit rate up to 100 Mbit/sec,  depending on
the specific HD format being recorded. Highly popular format because of its lowe r bit rates, and
incredible resolution considering how highly compressed the format is.
This format is very popular as an acquisition format used with Panasonic's Varic am camera as well>as several Panasonic cameras that record to P2 card systems. A lso used heavily to convert higher->end HD formats into a high quality offline e diting format. Uses component recording, DCT
compression at approx. 7:1 (intraframe), 4:2:2 color sampling, 8->bit depth and  up to 8 audio channels.
    1080 formats record at 1280x1080, 720 formats record at 960x720. At 1080p, frame  rates include>23.98, 24, 25 fps. At 1080i, frame rates include 25, 29.97, 30 fp s. At 720p, frame rates include
    23.98, 24, 25, 29.97, 30, 59.94, 60 fps.

I agree that you want AIC not DV. AIC is a 4:2:0 codec so you will lose some quality, but it is your best option without buying FCP.

  • Does iWeb support .wmv movie files?

Ok guys i'm fairly new to the iWeb.
I have a basic qustion that I dont seem to be able to find the answer for on any help links within the application or Quicktime for that matter as it always revert you back to saving you movie files as QuickTime .mov files.
Is there a way you can import .wmv movie files so that our friendly PC user's can view without having to download QuickTime for PC.
    Thanks for youe help.
    Neil

iWeb writes page code that calls the QuickTime browser plug-in.
QuickTime on a PC can't open WMP formats.
All you can do is use "link to file" to upload your .wmv file.

  • Export for flash-movie file conversion.

I want to prepare files for the highest quality possible for conversion to flash-movie files. I recorded in HDV- edited in HDV- send to Color in HDV- and now my question is if I should send it to FCP from Color in 10 bit-uncompressed to keep the highest quality?
Also at the end exporting from FCP- should I change my sequence settings? Again I need the very highest quality for later conversion to a flash-movie file, and was told that uncompressed is the way to go??
    Any thoughts on this?
    Thanks- Adam.

"Keeping" the quality isn't really the issue-- if you're working in HDV, there's nothing to gain by going to Uncompressed, because you weren't working in Uncompressed in the first place. The exception to this is color grading and graphics: ideally, you would be working in a higher quality sequence such as ProRes (Uncompressed is probably overkill) in both FCP and Color.
Of course, I can't honestly say that any of this will make a difference in a Flash movie-- Flash is for web delivery, and to bring it down to a bitrate suitable for the web, you'll likely lose anything you might have gained from this process.

  • AppleTV Not playing .Mov files that will play in iTunes

After Major Hard Disc issues I had to use a Data Rescue II to retrieve the files.
All seems fine now except Data Recover II converted all of the m4v to mov files?
They play fine from iTunes, but apple tv does is giving me an error that file format is not recognized or it just does not load...
    File Details are as follows:
    Kind: QuickTime Movie File
    Profile: Low Complexity
    Bit Rate: 158 kbps
    Video Dimesions:1280x720
    Video Codec: h.264
    Thanks in advance peeps!

    what's the framrate?
bear in mind that just because something is in itunes, does not mean it is appletv compatible.
also, have you tried simply changing the extension back to .m4v ?

  • Nikon D5200 264 Codec in MOV file format

I have upgraded to the Nikon D5200. This camera is brand new but I am unable to view the videos in premiere. Only the audio shows up.The videos are saved in MOV file format. After updating the Quicktime on my computer I can see the videos but they are very choppy and pixelated. Once I put them into a premiere project, they have to immediately be rendered. Am I missing something here?
I was using a Sony NEX 5R and never had this problem. Please help me figure out the best way to fix this problem as I can not do any video editing under these circumstances. Thanks for your help.

Lots more information is needed for us to help you as John T. Smith has said.
    1. What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
    2. From what I have read of your camera, you are shooting AVCHD, if you say .mov, the with a .mov file extension. I believe the audio is Linear PCM Stereo. But, what is your camera setting? I see several choices
    1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 interlaced frames per second (aka 60i)
    1920 x 1080 @ 29.97 progressive frames per second
    1280 x 720 @ 50 or 60 progressive frames per second
    and even
    640 x 424 @ 30 or 25 progressive frames per second.
    Which one?
    3. What are you or the project setting as the project preset based on the properties of your source media.
    4. Besides now having the latest version of QuickTime installed on your computer, are you running Premiere Elements as Run As Administrator or from a User Account with Administrative Privileges?
    5. If you do not have the correct project preset, that would be the top choice for the colored line over that Timeline content and the need for rendering of that Timeline to get the best possible preview in the Edit Mode monitor. The latter occurs when you did not set it correctly or the program had problems putting the video properties into one of its categories. Then you set the project preset yourself manually before you import the source media. Once we have more details from you, we can help you select the correct project preset and sort through other possible factors contributing to your issues.
The answers are in the details.
We look forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.

  • MOV files or not.

Hi, working on my very first wedding highlight video, using a PC with i7 processor, 16GB RAM, Nvidia 660 GPU. I´m using CS6 with mercury engine ON. Playing MOV files is still a bit hard to playback and seem to "jitter" a bit ( recorderd with GH4 1080 50fps 100mbit/s ) As i read on the web it seems people convert it into ProRes 422 before editing, but that seems only to apply when using a MAC. What format should i convert my MOV files to for best quality in CS6 or should i upgrade some hardware on my rig. What you would recomend ??
    Regards from SWEDEN.

CS6 will process the mov only in 32 bit meaning it will only use 4 gig of ram.
You could try the Cineform codec (if it will take the GH4 files). Kind of equivalent of Proress.
    CineForm Studio: Software Download
BTW you can edit Prores on CS6 windows.

  • Font Row 2 with .Mov files

I am having real problems playing some my .mov files through Front Row in Leopard.
I am getting the audio and the progress bar and skipping forward and back works fine, but I am getting a black screen with no video. This is not due to my display not being the master monitor or anything like that as all my other videos (.avi .wmv) work fine - and even some of my .mov files are fine.
All the .mov files in question play fine in Quicktime but not in Front Row.
I have also tried removing ALL third party quicktime plugins (divx, flip4mac, perian) and it makes no difference to the .mov files - just can't play any avi or wmv files of course.
All the .mov files are from the same place and are even from the same series of other .mov files that work fine.
Has anyone else come across this or is it just me? Is there some codec in the .mov files that could cause this?
    Thanks.

Not that anyone else seems to be having this issue, but it appears to only be happening for .mov files that use Sorenson 3 with "Apple PNG Millions+" for the video compression.... just in case anyone cares.
Can someone at least please tell me where I can submit a bug to Apple for this. Thank you.

  • Importing MOV files

hello all, this is my first time using FCP and i imported a MOV file that was converted from an AVI using Mpeg streamclip. For some reason when I go to playback, the Viewer screen(left screen) has a red screen with the text 'codec could not be opened'. The canvas screen also has the same text but when payed it displays a blue screen that says 'unrendered'.
Can someone help me get past this roadblock.
Thanks in advance to those who respond.

Ok ... +don't choose Export to DV+ ... instead choose *Export to Quicktime* then in the resulting window select *Apple DV/DVCPRO - NTSC* as the Compression, leave all the other settings on their resulting defaults, and press the "Make Movie" button to name and save out the file as usual.
Import the resulting file into FCP and see if that works better.
