Saving a PDF as a jpg in Preview

Until I recently got my new MAC and upgraded to Lion 10.7.4, I was able to crop an image out of a pdf and save it as a jpg in Preview.
Now you can only 'save a version' of a pdf and because no dialogue box opens, I don't know if its possible to save it in different formats or frankly where it saves to!
Is there another way to save images in word docs or pdf's as jpgs?

Duplicate it then you can save the duplicate in another format.
The lack of "Save As" causes a lot of confusion.

  • Saving a pdf as a jpg

I downloaded a free pdf poster and wanted to save it after some alteration as a jpg. The choice wasn't there and I tried saving as a psd and still couldn't save as jpg.
    What am I doing wrong?
    TIA for any help.

  • One page displays as negative image when saving PDF to reduced size in Preview

    Imac Intel Mid 2007
    OS X 10.5.8
    Preview v4.2
I have a multi-page PDF I'm trying to save to a reduced size.
The document was constructed of separate pages, some of which were created as Photoshop PDFs in Photoshop CS4 and others were saved as PDF's from Word.  After moving over the individual PDF's to the side bar, the document saves fine in Preview at full size. When I use the quartz filter to "Save As"  "Reduced File Size" one page saves as a negative image and the others are all fine.
One suggestion I saw in a similar thread was that the mode in PS might be CMYK, however it is not and it is RGB.
Any help as to solving this would be greatly appreciated.

    JPEG is single-page.
If I print and choose 'pdf to jpeg'
    Elaborate, please.
Is there a way to save to pages out in one go to jpeg where I can adjust the dpi setting?
Yes. Build an Automator workflow using the PDFs > Render PDF Pages as Images action.
Once I have the reduced jpegs it's easy enough to reimport into preview and save as a pdf.
If the desired final output is multi-page PDF, no need to go through all that. You can do the task in Acrobat Pro (PDF Optimizer), or in Preview (Save as > PDF > Quartz Filter). If the current Reduce File Size filter doesn't provide satisfactory quality, use ColorSync Utility to duplicate it (or make a new filter from scratch) and adjust it to fit your needs.

    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line of text below to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    /Library/Internet Plug-ins
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste (command-V) into the text box that opens, then press return.
From the folder that opens, remove any items that have the letters “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari, and test.
I've seen an unconfirmed report that the "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can also interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you might need to remove it as well, if applicable.
If you still have the issue, repeat with this line:
    ~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari again.

  • When saving to PDF in Preview . . .

When saving to PDF in Preview, how can I eliminate the borders that are automatically added?  Thanks.

Here's the screenshot.  Note the white border.  Another party has pointed out that the way to fix it is to create a custom paper size (Print Dialog --> Paper size --> Manage custom sizes --> set up a custom 8.5 x 11 page with zero borders all around.).  It works!  H/T to Kirk Slowe.

  • Keep dimensions on JPG saved from PDF

The end purpose of my project is to create a PDF that a client can save as JPG after adding their name and number etc... (for use in an email signature).
    1. I saved a PDF from Indesign (page size set up width: 523px and height:146px)
    2. Open the PDF and added form fields.
    3. Open PDF, use the fields to add name, number etc
    4. Save as other > image > JPEG
If it is saved as 72ppi it stays 523px x 146px BUT the text is illegible.
If it is saved as 96ppi it changes to 698px x 195px and so on... dimensions getting bigger as the resolution is increased.
I sort of get why it's doing this but I want the image to stay 523px x 146px and be readable. The client should not have to manually resize the image back down when inserting into email signature if you know what I mean...
    Cheers

Trust me, I've tried all settings. But I'll see what other formats could be used
    This is saving as PNG
This is JPG set on Max quality at 96ppi
If I increase the output resolution, the dimensions get bigger. I want them to stay same width but higher definition (resolution)

  • Can preview join pdf's or jpg's

    Hello everyone,
I was wondering if preview can join pdf's. or jpg.'s.
I know I can highlight several jpg's or pdf's and select them and open them. But I was wondering if there is a way to connect them so that I can open up one document and have several pictures to scroll down as one document.
    Thank you
    Marco

    Thank you
I opened up two different pdf documents, then I draged the sidebar thumb nail from one doc to the other. When I closed and opened it up it didn't have the second pdf. document / picture.
I then tried the same thing except I did a "save as" and made a new document, but when I opened it up it didn't have the second one.
Maybe I didn't do it right?

  • Images turn greyscale when saving Postscript/PDF or Print Preview but text remains in colour?

It is in colour, until I turn on Overprint preview, or try to save the booklet as a Postscript or PDF file.
In print preview or when doing any of the above things, it goes to greyscale but the text and rectangles remain in colour?
The images have been placed from Photoshop as eps files and were duatone in PS.
    Please help.

As both the engineering resource at Adobe most involved with end-to-end PDF print publishing workflows and having served at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo last year as an Industry Research Professor teaching students about modern, reliable workflows as well as variable data publishing with PDF, I find this thread fascinating.
Obviously, you can force fit PostScript for output, albeit very inconveniently and with the possibility of problems and artifacts due to the device-dependent nature of PostScript (along with flattened transparency, lack of ICC color management, and inconsistencies in spot color handling).
However, unless the university assignment was specifically to demonstrate to you how difficult and problematic PostScript-based workflows were over a dozen years ago, I am absolutely appalled that any accredited university or professional school program in design / graphic arts / publishing / printing would have you use PostScript workflows in any way.
Other than hacking around with the possibility of doing output that varies based on external variables as the job is being RIPed, I know of absolutely no advantages of PostScript over PDF in this arena and obviously a boatload of disadvantages.
As I have written many times in the past, I wouldn't advocate that publishers with extensive collections of EPS-based content do wholesale conversions of same, but for new content or when content needs revision, PDF is definitely the replacement for EPS or PostScript in any flavor.

  • I saved a PDF doc in adobe and then added text to the form. But every time I try an email it it only

I saved a PDF doc in adobe and then added text to the form. But every time I try an email it it only sends the original form without text. Once I've changed a doc in Adobe, how can I save it so that I'm able to use it with added text and notes? Also, I'm using a new iPad.

If you are using those apps or websites, they are likely viewing the PDF using iOS' built in PDF previewing, which will not show annotations and markup to the PDF. We have informed Apple of this issue, but do not have any insight into whether or when they will fix it.
Regarding the qustion about importing pictures, Adobe Reader does not provide any capabilities to import pictures into a PDF. To do this, you'll need to use Acrobat, available on your desktop computer.

  • Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File Save.

I am using Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and I was using Adobe Reader version 9. In the past, I've always been able to print to file using the File -> Print dialogue but all of a sudden it stopped working. I read somewhere that installing the latest version of Adobe Reader (version 11) would remove the old printer, so I did so. It took me about an hour on version 11 to even find the pdf print to file option, but I am getting the same message. For what it's worth, when I try print to file from Microsoft Word, I have no problem. I have no idea why things changed all of a sudden, but does anyone have any idea how I can get this working again?

I checked with Adobe.  No luck.
Allow me to clarify my problem:
I have Adobe Reader XI. I also use a Mac--imac and a MacBook Pro.   My adobe was updated on 12/24.  Prior to that point, I could open my print dialogue box and there was a PDF tab on the bottom left.  In the drop down menu there were many choices, including but not limited to Open in PDF Preview, Print PDF, Save PDF, email PDF.  If I selected one page of 30 pages from a document saved in Adobe, I could extract just that one page and save it or email it, without having to send the entire document.   After the update, when I open a PDF file using ADOBE READER XI, and then open the print dialogue box, and follow those same steps, I get the message "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported. Instead, choose File > Save."   My question is why is this feature now unavailable and is there a way to fix it?
The answer I got from Adobe was that Adobe never had this function, so it must have been via my print or preview programs..which are apple.  Does anyone have any thoughts?
    Thank you.

  • AcroPro9, snow leopard, "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported"

    Hi,
I have AcroPro9.1.3 (and 8 and 7 and Dreamweaver CS3, and probably other stuff too) on Snow Leopard (10.6.1).
I've read about de-installing the Acrobat printer and using "save as Adobe PDF" from the PDF button on the print menu.  However, when I try this, I'm told "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported".  Note that this is AcroPro9, not AcroReader.  I get the same message when I try any of the other options under the PDF menu on the printer menu in Acrobat.  In other applications, tho, (eg powerpoint), the PDF button works fine.
Before the upgrade, the PDF button on the print menu didn't work either (same message), so I used the Adobe printer, but now I can't.  I had always assumed that AcroPro was stopping me from using Apple's PDF generator in favour of the Adobe one.  But maybe some of my settings are wrong.
I now cannot print to PDF from Acrobat.  Help.  There are 120 fourth year software engineering students who will appreciate any help I get, as I can then post my recent lecture notes for them.
(What I really want to do is to take my powerpoint slides and print 4-up versions directly.  But the PPT idea of 4up wastes a lot of space, so I generate 1up PDF, and the 4up PDF from that using Acrobat.  At least, I used to.  It was so much easier in the old days with Latex and psnup ...)
    -- Mike G.

My current solution is to print from Preview instead (which will let me use the Adobe print facility, unlike Acrobat itself).
In fact, I pretty much have no need for Acrobat at the moment.
Adobe and Apple between them seem to have some real problems with Snow Leopard.  I can't get Dreamweaver to run anymore without immediately crashing (yes I looked through the help forums, deleted settings, etc etc).  So I'm now looking for a replacement tool for Dreamweaver and will likely use that from now on.
Adobe is not looking very good to me at the moment.  YMMV.

  • Pdf color looks different in preview and acrobat?

I notice that the colors in various PDF files I have look different in Preview and in Acrobat. Is there some weird color profile issue?
To be specific, I can create a PDF file in various ways, of a slide deck I originally created using Keynote. It has various different color blocks in the slides. In particular some acid green colors look very different depending on whether I open the PDF in Acrobat or in Preview.
Preview shows the colors as they were in the original keynote application. But Acrobat shows them far more muted.
I learned from another post that if I create the PDF by first saving to postscript and then creating the PDF using Acrobat, the issue seems to go away. However this is very inconvenient.
In short, it seems as though there is some peculiar difference between the way Preview and Keynote (and probably Pages ) handle color and the way Acrobat handles color.
Is there some way to fix this using some setting in one of the programs?
By the way, this is not a new problem. I noticed it with previous OS's as well as previous versions of Keynote. I am currently using the latest version of everything.

Same problem here. I was printing a PDF that my designer had sent me. Before I have always used Acrobat, but I've started using Preview in Leopard since it's faster and more powerful than before. But the colors were seriously wrong, often reversed completely. I believe this file was originally created in Illustrator.

  • Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?

Programming help - how to get the read-only state of PDF file is windows explorer preview is ON?
I'm developing an application where a file is need to be saved as pdf. But, if there is already a pdf file with same name in the specified directory, I wish to overwrite it. And in the overwrite case, read-only files should not be overwritten. If the duplicate(old) file is opened in windows (Win7) explorer preview, it is write protected. So, it should not be overwritten. I tried to get the '
FILE_ATTRIBUTE_READONLY' using MS API 'GetFileAttributes', but it didn't succeed. How Adobe marks the file as read-only for preview? Do I need to check some other attribute of the file?
    Thanks!

Please read it in the following order since both are a continuation documents for the same purpose (it also contains how to change colors of row dynamically but I didnt do that part I just did the read_only part as your requirement)
