Saving a PDF form with Acrobat Reader X

According to Acrobat Reader X site under "Can I save an Adobe PDF form in Adobe Reader after I have filled it out?", the following answer is given:
"Yes, you can fill in and save forms provided the form author has enabled the "local save" capability within Adobe Acrobat or LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2." Further information reveals that Acrobat 9 Pro (which is what I have) includes LiveCycle Reader Extensions ES2. I cannot locate on Help how to enable the "local save" facility.

Look under the "Advance" menu bar item for "Enable Extended Reader Rights".

  • Saving pdf form with extended Reader rights

    Hello,
I want to save form changes without further confirmations in Reader version X ("Save" and not "Save as...").
    - If you use a pdf form with enabled Reader rights, you should be able to save any changes made in form field by using the Reader.
    - To save changes use "File / Safe" or press CRTL+S
    Result:
    - Save-as window will appear
    - After choosing save button you will be asked to overwrite existing file.
    Expected results:
File should be saved without further confirmations! In Reader version 9 there was no problem with that.
Does anybody had the same problem and found a solution?
    Regards,
    Christian

OK, it seems to be a typical "it's-not-a-bug-it's-a-feature"-problem. But I found no way to avoid the overwrite question during saving. I noticed that the question appears only the first time when you click on the save button. If you do further changes in form fiels and click a second time on the save button the document will be overwritten without additional warnings. Maybe it's a feature to prevent users from overwriting empty forms by asking for a new filename and so on..
However, we are using the reader in conjunction with a document management software and the overwrite warning disturbs our enterprise workflow. So the only insufficient solution for my problem is to downgrade all users to version 9 again.
Hope next version of reader will be better in disabling unwanted features ;-)
    Regards, Christian

  • I want to prevent users from saving a PDF form with the data filled in

I am using Adobe Acrobat X Pro to create a fillable PDF form.  When I open my form in Acrobat Reader XI, it says right at the top "You can save data typed into this form."  I have NOT saved it as Reader Extended PDF. This is a form that will be emailed to recipients or available to download from our website as a PDF so they can fill it out on their office computer, print with the data filled, and then fax or snail mail to us. (No online or email submissions.)  We do not want them to accidentally save confidential information on the form that will be visible to the next user when they close it, or to Save As and keep the filled form.
I know there are still ways to do it if someone really wants to, like printing it to PDF or using a PDF software other than Reader, but these are not folks who would have time or intention to do such a thing.  99% of them will be using some version of Reader, probably a much older one than mine.  Thank you for any advice!

Thank you Gilad and George for trying. I just discovered both of you have replied to this issue here - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5881211#5881211 - which is my exact same situation; I am also a regional health care agency trying to provide forms for health care providers! (It's a small world.) I just didn't find this thread the first time I searched for answers.  I will investigate the JavaScript reset Form statement. Thanks!

  • Win7 Pdf print with acrobat reader

I have a problem with the printer's list,
if install a printer... it does appear in the list.
if i change or remove a printer it disappear...
The problem is verified with acrobat 10 and 11, with the version 9 the printer's list is blank.
With acrobat reader 9 i can't print because "no printer is installed"...

Make sure you update to the lastest available version of Acrobat/Reader (these are two different things, by the way)... Only versions 9.2 or higher are compatible with Windows 7.

  • HOW TO save PDF Forms in Acrobat Reader

    Hi,
I have made a timesheet form in Acrobat Professional. The idea with this is to put it on our intranet site and let my collegues register their working hours there (today we have an excel form).
The big advantage in using the PDF Form instead of the excel is the digital signatures function. This makes it possible for signing also when not in house - perfect in every aspect but....
...my collegues would like to save the timesheet before sending it. Printing is of no option since they are out on the road most of the time.
In Adobe Professional this is no problem but in Acrobat Reader you cannot save anything but an empty form. I have searched for security levels in the form but I cannot find anything. Howcome can't you save the document you have made as a copy in Reader? Is there a way of getting around this issue? I cannot put all collegues on the Adobe Professional program, it would be too expensive.
Please help! I hate having to go back to excel because of this malfunction.
    Best regards from Sweden
    Annika

Sorry, I was wrong, we don't have the professional suite. We purchased the Creative Suite 3 Design standard. However the Adobe Acrobat program itself is version 8 professional.
From what I understand the only way to make the form savable in Adobe reader for my collegues is that I buy also the Adobe LiveCycle Reader Extensions.
The price for this extension is 1500 USD.
To try to explain once more what I want to be done...
I am making forms for my collegues, where they can fill in their travelling costs, their working hours etc etc. This they have to do once an month and then send to their boss. BUT my collegues have only Adobe Acrobat reader, and with that program you can only save an empty form, ie the form empties itself when saving. But of course my collegues wants a copy of their working hours, travelling costs saved on their own computer. Prints are not acceptable.
Please help, I can't figure out how to open up the saving rights for my collegues in my adobe professional program...
Sorry for beeing so dumb, but I don't understand...

  • Cannot display pdf form with Adobe Reader 9.1.3

Since the last update of my Reader (last version is 9.1.3), I can't display pdf form in the workspace. I got a blank page.
Is anybody have the same problem?

    -  Go to the registry HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Software > Adobe >Acrobat> delete any older version that is older than the one you just updated to make sure it contains only the current one you have for both Acrobat Reader and/or Pro version since it did not removed when you uninstall or update.
    - Also go the installed directory where you installed the Acrobat and delete any folder that contains older version, same here with the registry, it did not remove when you uninstall/update acrobat reader or pro.
The above steps also solve the problem of can not open pdf file within Internet Explorer or browser as well.

  • Cannot save filled forms with Acrobat Reader

I have installed on my Windows XP, Acrobat Reader 9.5. I get a pdf file from Internet that has in it some forms that I must fill in and send back to pdf creator. The problem is that when I open this file, I have posted a message on the upper left side: "Please fill out the following form. You cannot save data typed into this form. Please print your completed form if you would like a copy for your records." But of course, I must be able to save this file with filled data in form. Is that possible? Can you explain me what happens? I'm a newbie to this topic (in fact I'm a linux user. I'm trying to solve some of my sister issues).
    Thanks in advance!

Prior to Reader 11, Reader was unable to save a filled-in form unless the document was Reader-enabled. This is something that the creator of the form does with either Acrobat or LiveCycle Reader Extensions. If your document is not Reader-enabled, you will see the message that you're getting. Unfortunately, Reader 11 is not available for Linux.

  • Saving a PDF-form with nested forms and tables

I created a multiplaged form with a couple JS-functions to add table-instances and complete tables and a few more. I saved the form with additional rights to make sure my users can save the form and its content using Adobe Reader. Now whenever the form is saved, some - but only some - information disappears, respectively isn't saved but replaced through the default content. I created quite some forms before and never ever had this problem. I'm using LiveCycle Designer ES 2 )but experienced the same problem when using ES 3) and Adobe Reader X.

  • Problem saving annotated PDF files with windows reader app

It has happened to more than one of my files. After I read it, and jotted some notes on it, when I was trying to save, it tells me I couldn't. At first, l thought it was a problem of my file. However, it has happened to every file I tried. When I opened
the file with another PDF app, it opens and saves fine.
Is there anything I am missing that causes the problem?

    Hi,
I just made a test using Windows Reader, it works fine without problem. For your problem, I doubt there is a problem with this app and you can try to reinstall this Reader app trough Windows Store.
On the other hand, you can access to the link below to download the pdf file to make a test. I already made a test using this pdf file on my system, Windows 8.1 Pro. Reader app works fine:

  • FF 19 for Mac. changed preferences to open PDFs with Acrobat Reader. Now when I click on a pdf link, an about:blank FF window opens (pdf then opens)

The change in preferences opens the pdf appropriately with Acrobat Reader, as desired, but before it does, FF opens a brand new blank window (about:blank). How can that action be stopped?

Yes, I mean the eternal application.
Ctrl-click does open the dialog, but that does not cause new/blank FF window to show up.....however shift-click opens the new/blank window, then opens another FF window with a "New Tab" heading, then opens the pdf with Acrobat Reader.....
If open the dialog and select "open in new tab" (open in Acrobat Reader is not an option), a new tab is opened, and the the pdf come up in Reader (without opening a new FF window). In earlier FF, it just opened directly in Reader (or acrobat) without opening a new tab or window.

  • Is possible to save a form using Acrobat Reader? How to?

    Hi all,
I designed a static pdf form using Livecycle. I want to send it to the form recipients, and I need they return me the pdf form filled. I can do this without problems on Adobe Acrobat Pro, but my mates that are using Adobe Reader can't save the filled form. Adobe Reader offers them to save a blank copy of the form or print it filled. But this isn't what I need. I need to have x copies of the form (of the pdf file) filled by my x recipients. Is there any option in Livecycle to allow saving the filled form on Acrobat Reader?
    Thanks in advance,
    Enrique Llorens
P.D. Apologies for my awful english...

    Hi Enrique,
In order for users with Reader to be able to save your form, it has to be 'Reader Enabled' before you send it out.
    You have three choices:
Reader enable the form with LC Reader Extensions ES2, which is a server based component of the enterprise suite. This is intended for processing large volumes of forms/data and is an additional cost per form.
Reader enable the form using Acrobat Standard v9 (or Acrobat Pro v7 to v8). This has license restrictions to less than 500 users per form.
Instead of users with Reader sending the form back as a PDF. You could set up a 'Submit as XML' button. This does not require the users with Reader to Save the form.
I have a summary of features (functions that are available/restricted) depending on whether the form is enabled and how it was enabled on our blog: http://assurehsc.ie/blog/index.php/2010/05/using-livecycle-forms-in-acrobat-and-reader/
When you open the sample at the end of the post, if you hover over the question marks, you will see screenshots of the enabling process.
    Hope that helps,
    Niall
