Saving a PDF in Acrobat 9 with comments enabled for viewer

Hi,
Is there a quicker way to enable comments for Reader than actually having to choose to do so? I have maybe 30-40 files saved as a PDF but they do not have comments enabled so I have to open each one and click on enable comments for Reader. That takes a lot of time and sometime you can make a mistake.
Any work around? A macro?
Thanks!
Luke

Ha ha ha.
I saw that and, of course, my company would never get into this but I wanted to thank you for your response.

  • How to create a PDF with markup enabled for Reader users?

    I have a bunch of Word 2007 documents containing project specs. I would like to be able to turn them into PDF documents that other people can markup using Reader. Is this possible?
    I tried using the built-in PDF output module. It creates a PDF document, but it is not enabled for comments.
    About halfway down on this comparison page,
         http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html
    there is a row that says,
         "Review documents using familiar commenting tools such as sticky
         notes, highlighting, lines, shapes, and stamps"
    In the Reader column, there is a symbol in the Reader column that I guess is
    supposed to be some sort of half-full container or something. At the
    bottom, it says
         "When enabled by Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Pro Extended."
    This seems to indicate that Acrobat Standard cannot create comment-enabled PDF documents, but either Pro or Pro Extended can. Is that correct?
    If I buy Acrobat Pro, will I be able to use it to create comment-enabled PDF documents from my Word 2007 documents?
    If so, how does it work? Will it convert the Word document? Will it convert the PDF document I create using the Word add-in? Can I invoke it from inside Word?
    Thanks

    Yes and yes.

    Thanks
    It's very simple. Create your PDF from Word, open in Acrobat and use the Comments>Enable for commenting and analysis in Adobe Reader. You cannot invoke it from within Word no.

  • How can PDFs be distilled with narrow margins for optimized viewing on iPad?

    I am not reporting a serious issue. I am seeking to expand my understanding of PDF creating.
    Using Adobe Acrobat XI version 11.0.10 on MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 GB DDR3), I have been creating PDF files of music charts optimized for viewing on iPad using Acrobat Distiller XI version 11.0.10. I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.2). Music charts are designed using Pages 5.5.2 using Page Setup for HP LaserJet 1012 and a custom page size (7.75 in. x 10.25) with four 0.06 inch margins. This allows me to replicate exact content of a PDF file optimized for printing [Page Setup for HP LaserJet 1012 with US Letter page size (8.5 in. x 11) having four 0.5 inch margins] on a  PDF file optimized for viewing on an iPad. The iPad PDF has reduced white space in margins allowing the music chart to have the largest print viewable when looking at an iPad while performing.
    I am creating a PDF by distilling a Postscript file and using Acrobat Distiller [PDF/A-1b:2005 (RGB)]. "Save as an Adobe PDF" does not work; it only generates "Error An error occurred while saving the PDF file." Moreover, "Save as an Adobe PDF" never works for any circumstance.
    The issue is iPad PDFs no longer have 0.06 inch margins. A PDF file is created, but there is more white space in margins. I have determined the PDF production is being affected by the HP LaserJet 1012 0.167 inch minimal margins. The outcome does not change if I select Any Printer from Page Setup.
    However, a PDF with 0.06 inch margins is created if I use the MacOS PDF generator (MacOS X 10.10.2 Quartz PDF Context).
    Is there any thing I can do to use Adobe Acrobat XI to make charts optimized iPad like I could before I upgraded to Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)? Just curious…
    Kind regards, –John
    P.S. I am attaching 3 screen shots of sample files (PDF with 0.5 print margins, PDF using Distiller, and PDF using MacOS Quartz)

    Howdy Sukrit,
    Thank you for taking time to respond to my query.
    I tried your suggestion for resizing the size of the pages. Unfortunately, the PDF was created from a document that did not designate headers and footers. The Add Header and Footer tool did not recognize the existence of any header of footer, thus I could not use this method to resize the document.
    Your suggestion did prompt me to realize I could hand crop each page of a PDF, but this would be a tedious but functional process.
    I am convinced this issue is more a product of the Mac OS 10.10.x than an Acrobat issue. (I was creating properly sized PDFs with Acrobat XI and Mountain Lion Mac OS 10.9.x.)
    I tried setting up a virtual PostScript printer with a generic PostScript in System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. [Ref: Set up a default printer in the Print Center (Mac OS X) <https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/set-default-printer-print-center.html>]
    That produced the same results.
    I tried using all available presets including Oversized Pages as well as editing Adobe PDF some default settings for Distiller.
    I tried setting the printer to EPSON Stylus Photo R280 inkjet printer using Page Setup. Although this printer has minimum margins set to 0.12 inch, the result was a poorly oriented PDF on letter-size page.
    I have been distilling quality PDFs for years using Acrobat 4, Acrobat 5, Acrobat 6, Instant PDF 3, Acrobat 7, Instant PDF 4, Acrobat 8, Acrobat 9, Acrobat X. I once could create PDFs using a virtual Adobe Distiller printer with generic PostScripts and specific Laserjet PostScripts, but all my PDF had margins of 0.5 inch or greater. The need for me to limit white space margins PDFs used on iPad only came about in the last year.
    Something seems to have changed after upgrading to Yosemite Mac OS 10.10.2. Now PDF creation using Adobe Acrobat seems to be tied to my HP LaserJet 1012 preferences having 0.167 minimum margins whereas the Mac OS X 10.10.2 Quartz PDFContext is not restricted in default margins. This has piqued my curiosity, and I want to learn more about this.
    I appreciate your help and expertise.
    Kind regards,
    –John P. Zannini

    Goto the view definition (SE11), and set the attribute of the required field (column 'P'), and make it as Subset 'S'. This ensures that you cannot goto the display of view data without first entering the value for this field.
    The values displayed are also filtered for the selected value of this subset field.

  • Problems with comments-enabled PDF: I can't see my client's comments

    Hello,
    I really hope somebody can help me.
    THE SITUATION: I have a comments-enabled PDF. The comments repository is located on my externally hosted webdav server. Both my client and I have local copies of the PDF, and up until today, my client was able to post comments on the PDF.
    THE PROBLEM:
    - Today, my client suddenly noticed that the review had "expired" and she can't post her comments.
    - I am able to see and post my own comments in the PDF, but I can't see my client's comments in the PDF.
    - My client can see her own comments. (I don't know if she can see mine.)
    - If I log into my webdav site with FTP, I can see my client's XML file which contains all her comments. I can also see my own XML file which contains my comments, and it is indeed updating each time I add a new comment.
    I thought it would be possible to import the XML file containing all her comments into the PDF. However XML is not a format that Acrobat allows you to import!!! It only will accept FDF, XFDF, or PDF!
    Phone tech support was spectacularly unhelpful. I seriously doubt "Nelson" from Bombay has ever used Acrobat in his life. He asked me to send the file to him, which I did, but I haven't heard back.
    So my question is:
    1) How can I get my Acrobat file to view the comments which are sitting on the comments server in an xml file? Why would it see mine but ignore hers?
    2) If I can't get the comments to show up, then can I at least import my client's comments, which are currently sitting in an XML file, into my PDF?
    bonus question: Why is there so little documentation about dealing with webdav comments repositories? Is it considered better to use acrobat.com instead of our own webdav server or something?
    This is Acrobat 9.1.0 Pro for Leopard.

    Thanks for your reply, Steve. Yes, she did say that there was an end date, but when I go there, I don't see one. Baffling.
    I have decided to go over to her office, create an archive of her PDF, then try to pull those comments into a new PDF.
    This is a GIANT PAIN. And egg in my face, after I've sold this client on the ease and convenience of a PDF workflow!
    So is there any way to get xml comments back into a PDF???

  • Acrobat 9 Std - Comments- 'Enable for Commenting And Analysis In Reader' option Missing

    Hi,
    We've purchased a copy of Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard, and need to enable comments in Reader for PDFs that we create in Acrobat.  The option to "Enable For Commenting And Analysis In Reader" seems to be missing from the "comments" menu, even though all the videos/tutorials insist it's there.
    I haven't found any threads about this yet, and searched google for the missing option + "missing" along with other things.  Nothing related came up.
    Any ideas on what we could try?  Or why this is happening?
    Thanks!

    I don't think Standard has this option. Acrobat Pro does.
    This page confirms it: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/matrix.html

  • Saving a PDF file without the comments

    In Acrobat Reader, is it possible to save a copy of a PDF file without the comments.
    I'm doing a PhD, and would like to be able to send some scientific papers to colleagues without the annotation I may have added. Of course, manually removing all the comments is not a good solution.

    In the Comment panel, go to the Comments List, press Ctrl+A and then Delete.

  • Why is my search 1000% slower after re-saving a PDF? (Acrobat 9 Pro Extended)

    I purchased and downloaded the PDF version of "Javascript: the Definitive Guide" (Flanagan, David, O'Reilly Press, 5th Ed., 2006).
    When I first started using the PDF, searches would yield results instantaneously. After making some notations and highlighting some text, I saved the PDF.
    Now searches are ridiculously slow.
    Luckily, I had a backup copy of the PDF in another folder. I re-opened the original and tried my save again: voila! Same instananeous results.
    I thought maybe there had been an embedded index in the PDF, and that re-saving the PDF somehow corrupted or removed it. However, in the original version of the PDF, I can't find anything that indicates why searching is so much faster.
    Any ideas?

    Also, look at your Search preferences. For example, try Ctrl + K > Search > Fast Find

  • PDFs Crashing Acrobat 9.3.4 for seemingly no reason

    We're having a big problem with commented PDFs (made in Indesign) crashing at seemingly random points. Have tried re-saving the PDFs, opening in different locations (both local and network drives), changing view options, etc...
    The crashes occur on on both our MacMinis and iMacs, sometimes at the same point in a PDF, sometimes not.
    I have saved several of the crash logs, if they're of any help.
    OS X 10.6.4, Acrobat 9.3.4.
    EDIT: I need to do some more testing, but our problem sounds an awful lot like the one reported in http://forums.adobe.com/message/2951011 . I've only recently started using Two-Up view and the crashes only started after that. Unfortantely, using Single Page view is not much of a solution. Laying out double pages is much easier when both pages can be seen at the same time!

    Another thread that looks very similar:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/719838
    This bug definitely seems to be linked to using Two-Up page view and having multiple comments on a PDF.
    It was suggested that the problem might lie with the fact that the PDFs we're working with were created in Indesign CS3, but we've now replicated the problem with PDFs from Indesign CS5.

  • ADF BC connection to SQL Server with parameterized variable for View Object

    Hi everyone
    I'm developing a BPM Application using Oracle BPM 11.1.1.5.0 and JDeveloper 11.1.1.5.0
    Following the thread from the link below, since this is a new topic, I decided to open a new thread.
    Re: ADF method call to fetch data from DB before the initiator page loads
    what I'm trying to do is to get a record from a database and show it to the user on the initiator UI using ADF BC and not the Database Adapter.
    I have been able to work with ADF BC and View Objects to get all the rows and show them to the user in a table.
    However, when I try to run the same query in the parameterized form to just return a single row, I hit a wall.
    In short, My problem is like this:
    I have an Application Module which has an entity object and a view object.
    My database is SQL Server 2008.
    when I try to create a new read only view object to return a single row I face the problem.
    The query I have in the query section of my View Object is like this:
    select *
    from dbo.Employee
    where EmployeeCode= 99which works fine.
    However when I define a bind variable, input_code for example, and change the query to the following it won't validate.
    select *
    from dbo.Employee
    where EmployeeCode= :input_codeIt just keeps saying
    >
    incorrect syntax near ":"
    >
    I don't know if this has to do with my DB not being Oracle or I'm doing something wrong.
    Can someone help me with this problem please?
    thanks in advance

    Hi
    This all seems complicated to me so I think my simplest way would be to use the java code in the aformentioned thread by Sudipto:
    public String getUserLogin() throws WorkflowException,
    BPMIdentityException,
    BPMUnsupportedAttributeException {
    String userId = "";
    IWorkflowServiceClient wfSvcClient;
    ITaskQueryService queryService;
    IWorkflowContext wfContext;
    // Get username of User Login
    String contextStr = ADFWorklistBeanUtil.getWorklistContextId();
    wfSvcClient = WorkflowService.getWorkflowServiceClient();
    queryService = wfSvcClient.getTaskQueryService();
    wfContext = queryService.getWorkflowContext(contextStr);
    userId = wfContext.getUser();
    return userId;
    } I don't know where and how I should put the code to be called when the view object loads though.
    I have created a class in the java class section of my view object which has two methods related to the bind variable input_empCode:
    getinput_empcode and setinput_empcode , as expected.
    however any code i try to put in those two would not be called at all!
    for example:
        public Integer getinput_empCode() {
            //return (Integer)getNamedWhereClauseParam("input_empCode");
            return 1444;
        }and
        public void setinput_empCode(Integer value) {
            //setNamedWhereClauseParam("input_empCode", value);
            setNamedWhereClauseParam("input_empCode", 666);
        }It just keeps filled with the values in the bind variable section.
    I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.
    would you show me the way?
    Thanks again

  • Drawing Markup and Annotations using Reader with Commenting-Enabled PDFs

    I recently purchased Acrobat Standard to produce commentable PDFs for my contributors who use Acrobat Reader.
    The page linked below says that I can use Acrobat Standard to "Manage shared reviews, collecting everyone's feedback in one PDF and letting reviewers build on one another's comments‡"
    Adobe Acrobat XI
    I have used these features in the past with Acrobat Pro, but there wasn't any documentation that hinted at what appear to be limitations.  For example, using Acrobat Standard I can send a PDF for email review, but the only tools that my contributors can use with Reader are the sticky note and highlighter.  In the past, when I used Pro,  the whole suite of markup capabilities including Drawing Markup and annotations like strikethrough were available.
    I have looked everywhere for information about how to enable these other commenting tools, but can't find anything.  Am I missing something or is this some misleading marketing materials that have led me astray.

    You either need to upgrade to Acrobat Pro or the users need to upgrade to
    Reader XI, where all of the commenting tools are available by default.

  • How to automate extraction of chapters then saving them with comments enabled

    Hi,
    I have a lot of PDF documents that need there chapters extracted into separate PDF documents. At the moment I am having to find the beginning of a chapter (Page begins at 1 for every chapter) then find the end of that chapter and highlight that page. Then to extract it I using Alt + D + X, then save the new document by pressing Alt + C + F. I then close it using Ctrl + W and look for the next chapter.
    I was just wondering if it was possible to automate this process at all?
    Any ideas of suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Graeme. It might be possible, but it depends on how the chapters are defined. If, for example, they can be defined using the bookmarks or a special piece of text that appears in the begining of each chapter, then the answer is Yes, it can be automated. If you're interested in purchasing such a custom-made automation tool, send me an email (click on my user name for the address).

  • Opening files automatically in VBA and saving to PDF, Adobe Acrobat XI Pro

    Hello,
    I have Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and I want to ask if there is any possibility to open automatically files in Adobe by VBA (Word files, Excel, etc.) and save them to PDF?  Or maybe it is a possibility to print them with Adobe PDF Printer?  If there is something like that can you give me a sample of code?
    Thank for your help.
    Best regards,
    Robert

    Thank you for your advices.
    I already download Acrobat SDK before, but it's really complicated for someone who know only VBA at intermediate level.
    I really plan to learn javascripts and COM in future, but I was thinking that if I ask you for I guess easy think (opening files and saving them to pdf) you will help by giving similar code or some clues.
    Anyway I found  this two methods in documentation: PDDoc.Save and PDDoc.Open and I believe that a combination of them can finally help me. Do you know how I can connect them to one part?

  • AES256 encrypted PDF crashes Acrobat X but works for 9.x

    Hi,
    i've encrypted a PDF with AES-256 (Acrobat 9) encryption with a selfwritten PDF library.
    It opens fine in Acrobat 9.x but Acrobat X crashes a few seconds after opening.
    Here's the problematic PDF:

    Opening password is "2850" (just the number without quotes)
    Preflight 9.x tool doesn't report any syntax error, Preflight X cannot be tested because of crash.
    I'm sure there is a syntax problem, can your help me?
    When i replace the /StructTreeRoot entry in Catalog dictionary with spaces in a hex-editor Acrobat doesn't crash but
    some Contents is still missing..
    Any idea what's going wrong?
    Thanks in advance and best regards
    Dirk Carstensen

    Interesting. I was able to confirm that the test ran with Acrobat 9.x on a Mac, but crashes with Acrobat X on a PC. And I made sure my Acrobat X had latest upgrades.
    The test seems valid since it was able to run on PDF Interpreter software I work on. This software does support 256 bit encryption, with output matching Acrobat 9.
