Saving a pdf to a jpeg using photoshop elements II

I have been using PSE II with my pc and was able to design a simple flyer, save it as a pdf and then open it in PSE II and save it as a jpeg.
I recently got a macbook pro. I put PSE II on my mac and everything was working fine. Until I tried to save pdf as a jpeg in PSE II. When I try to do this, the thumbnail appears but when it opens, all I see is a white and gray checkerboard. This used to happen with the PSE II on a pc, but I learned to put a white text box behind the design before opening in PSE II and that solved the problem. But now on my macbook pro, even doing that doesn't help. I still get the gray and white checkerboard.
What am I doing wrong?

Open Preview (it should be in your dock if you didn't remove it--this is the icon:
and open the pdf or right click the closed pdf and choose Preview from the options for Open In.
Then go to file>duplicate and save the duplicate as a jpg. Or if you don't have forced saving turned on, use the export command in preview and choose jpg.

Using Photoshop Elements, I changed the original image and saved it with a new name. Both the original and the changed image show a .jpg file exension in the iPhoto folder.
The iPhoto application does not display the new image. It just seems not to exist unless you use Finder.

My images are not usually layered and the particular case I am about to quote, it is not. The dimensions are 10,546 x 2,790 and the image has 16.7 mbs. I use 8 bit colour. When I set up the print screens for tiff, everything is normal until I get to the last screen with the image set upon the photo paper. Then the paper size indicated with the image refuses to budge from the A4 size, so the panorama gets printed on that. I consulted the Adobe chat line and the expert could 't get it to work either. So he came to the conclusion that the tiff capability had not been extended to printing panoramas. In seeking advice, I thought someone might refer me to an updating patch!
Well done! You have confounded the system! I could not find any control that would override the setting.

When using Photoshop Elements 9 as external editor my iPhoto version does not update

I am using Photoshop Elements 9 as an external editor in iPhoto V9.4.2
My photo's are Raw and they open in Elements fine for me to edit. When I go to save or exit I have problems. I get options to choose from - I am assuming that saving them as JPEG now they are edited is the best choice. However it shows me a file location where it will be saved and this is not the iPhoto libary. Even so, I save them where PSE wants to and when I go back to them in iPhoto they are not shown as edited (either in preview thumbnail or full version and regardless of which folder I look at them from). I shut iPhoto down and re-open and still they are not changed. I have watched the Adobe lesson on this and it is identical right up to the point of 'saving'. I have read other question on this and followed some advice but not getting the desired result of showing up in iPhoto still.

Are you using PSE and saving the edit as described below?
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always. In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note: to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

I have tried to backup the pictures several times to an external drive several times. Somehow some of the pictures are saved as XML files sd opposed to jpegs. given the numbner of images, it takes about 4 hours to complete the process. I have used a 2 TB Western Digital Drive. I think I shall have to purchase a new drive and format it as you suggested. I do not want to overwrite other data stored on that drive. Thanks for the assitance.

JPG does not support transparency, so even if you create an oval with transparent background, the saved JPG will have white background. Instead, save it as a PNG, TIFF, or GIF which preserve the transparency.
Here is one of many ways to create your oval:
Create a new file the approximate size of the oval. Add the oval with the Custom Shape Ellipse tool, and simplify the shape layer.
In the Layers Palette, Ctrl-click the oval to select it and copy the selection to the clipboard (Edit > Copy).
Then do File > New from Clipboard. This creates the oval with transparent background cropped to the oval size.
Then save it as one of the file types that support transparency (and also supported by the application where you are sending the picture to).
Note: Is is not even necessary to do step 2. That is only if some reason you want the oval to be tightly cropped. It is sufficient to delete the Background layer in step 1 (or turn off its visibility) and save the file. The oval will appear correctly in the book with either version.

Once i realized to change the tick box in Camera Raw to 8 bit instead of 16 bit and Flatten image ( sometimes can flatten image if the flatten option isn't greyed out) hey presto i thought i was up and running. However after saving the photograph as a jpeg and renaming it e, after the word edit. I switched off/on my computer only for all the images i had spent time working on to have disappeared. My daughter has had her Razr for about 9 months now. About two weeks ago she picked up her phone in the morning on her way to school when she noticed two cracks, both starting at the camera lens. One goes completely to the bottom and the other goes sharply to the side. She has never dropped it and me and my husband went over it with a fine tooth comb. I went to look up why and guess what there is no case open any more for the phone. It has been wiped clean. I put in the RMA # it comes back not found, I put in the ID #, the SN# and all comes back not found. Yet a day earlier all the info was there. I know there is a lot more people like me and all of you, but they just don't want to be bothered so they pay to have it fix, just to have it do it again. Unless they have found the problem and only fixing it on a customer pay only set up. I am furious and will not be recommending this phone to anyone. And to think I was considering this phone for my next up grade! NOT!!!!

Mac or Windows?
Have you actually installed it, or just downloaded your purchased copy? If just downloaded then you need to double-click the downloaded file from wherever you saved it to. This will run the installer and ask you to enter your serial number (which you should NEVER post in a public forum such as this).
If you have installed it, and if you're using Windows, it should have placed shortcuts on the desktop. But if not click Start and type 'photo' without the quotes and you should see an entry for PSE.

Save the attachment in a folder.
From the Organizer menu choose:
File >> Get Photos & Videos >> From Files & Folders
Navigate to your image and click Open.
If the photo is embedded, make a copy or screen grab and then whilst it’s still held in memory open the Elements Editor.
From the menu click:
File >> New >> Image from clipboard
Then use File >> Save As
Then choose jpeg.

Work on a duplicate of your picture so that you will retain the unaltered original.
In full Editor, expert tab, go to File>save for web. In the dialog that comes up, GIF is the default; change that to JPEG. Under "Image size" >new size, make the longest side 800 px. Be sure that "constrain proportions" is checked. Apply. Save this as JPEG and try sending it to yourself as a test.

Sorry, but with the information you have given, the only answer I can give is "possibly".
Each camera model produces a slightly different raw format - even different models by the same manufacturer and even if they have the same extension (file type). The latest cameras will not be supported by older versions of Photoshop Elements although there is a converter which can help.
To give you a better answer, we need to know
1) The camera make and model
2) The version of Photoshop Elements that you are using
3) The operating system that you are running on.

How do I get imovie to use Photoshop Elements 12 as external editor? I am making a movie slide show with music from my Caribbean vacation photos and adding text captions to photos in PS Elements 12. I can also add some effects to photos like edge blur although I like iphotos effects better but iphoto doesn't seem to do text. The finished PS Elements photo doesn't seem to want to be shared by iphoto which is what imovie uses...
I am still learning to use PS Elements 12 for Mac (had PSE 7 for WinVista but wasn't proficient) and Mac and it's programs are new to me. I switch between my old Dell which is still amped for graphics and the new Mac mini. I started to use Movie Maker to do my vacation project but read that imovie was better but so far it doesn't seem to have as broad of file useage when it comes to imovie and photo files.

You simply need to create your stills with Photoshop Elements, save them in a suitable format (.jpg, .png, .tiff are all acceptable) then drag and drop them into your iMovie timeline. You don't have to use iPhoto.

You can't do this in PSE by itself. I'm assuming you have windows, so output your slideshow as a wmv file and then use Premiere Elements to finalize the disc, if you have that. If not, use whatever you do have (if you can burn DVDs, you have software). Even windows dvd maker will do this.
