Saving a secure PDF

Is there any way for a form user to save the PDF document once they have completed the form and make it secure so the data in the form can't be altered?

Hi,
Yes it is. Paul Guerette has an example for locking all fields: Re: Saving Fillable Form as non-fillable PDF
Users with Reader will only be able to save the form if it has been Reader Enabled first.
Hope that helps,
Niall

  • How to optimize a secure PDF?

I want to put a password security on a PDF document and optimize it to be backwards-compatible to Acrobat 5.0, but am having problems.
I can't optimize unless I first save the file.
But after saving the secured PDF, it won't let me optimize. It tells me if I want to change it, I have to remove the security settings.
First I create the security settings, which won't take take effect until after I save. But it saves compatible to Acrobat 7.0.
I even tried after setting the security, to do a "Save as" with the optimized option, but it won't let me do that either.
    Any suggestions?
I have Acrobat Pro version 8. Why does it automatically save to Acrobat version 7.0? Is there a way to change the default saving option? I can't find that preference anywhere.

    OK. Got it.
I had the "Run command on" "files open in Acrobat" so all the Output options were grayed out.
I changed it to "Ask..." instead, and that enabled the Output Options.
Several more steps required for the "Ask..." option, but at least I can get what I want.
    Thanks.

  • Anyone know how open "secured" pdf's downloaded and saved?

Adobe X freezes and shows "Not Responding" when attempting to open some saved pdf's.  Noticed that the pdf's which won't open show "Secured" next to the file name in the upper left corner.  These will open while still online, but cannot open the saved file later.  Windows 7.

An example of a "Secured" pdf can be found at: www.envisionreports.com/XOM/2011/08605JA11E/default.htm?voting=false.  Choose to download the Notice of Annual Meeting file.  It will open while on line.  But when saved to my computer, Adobe X will not open the file.  In the file name field, it indicates "Secured" and "Adobe Reader Not Responding".  Other pdf's that do not show "Secured" open with no problem.  Don't recall this to have been an issue in earlier versions of Adobe Reader.

  • Problems with secure PDFs in Preview

I recently saved and secured a PDF with Adobe Acrobat 9. While the document is secure when I open it with Adobe Acrobat or Reader, there is no security when I open up the same document with Preview... So much for the 256 bit encryption...
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
    Thanks,

Wow! So much for all the money Adobe put into securing PDFs...
    Thanks for your help.

  • Better Workflow for 20+ "versions" of a design, secure PDFs and Thumbs...

This will probably be a long one. Basically, I'm able to complete my tasks, but it is really time consuming and I can't help but feel like there is a better way. I'm hoping someone here can clue me in.
    THE PROJECT:
I sell digital downloads of a planner. There are several variations (with Holidays, without Holidays, weekly views, month only views etc.). Each variation is offered in several "designs". These are just different BG patterns. Once I've got them saved as a secure PDF (so no one can edit my design or copy/paste my resources) I have to create mockups of several views of each one. So right now, when I make a new background pattern that I want to intoduce to the set, I workflow ike this:
►Open 17 Indd files. One for each variation.
►Relink the BG image to the new design.
►Save 17 Indd files in a new folder with a new name indicating the new BG. (ie: Jan-13_Dec-14_Basic_Monthly_PurpleWeave.Indd)
►Export 17 indd files to PDF, going through the menu to change the security settings on each one.
This is a nightmare. It takes ~3 seconds to choose all the menus (not to mention typing in my security password twice), but then another ~5-10 to actually save the 144pg file. I can do nothing but sit and stare while it does this. I've found a couple of scripts that will export the PDFs from a whole folder for me, but since you can't save security settings in the PDF presets, I have to do it all by hand.
►Open 6-10 Photoshop Files for the mockups.
►Right Click "Edit Contents" for each smart object containing the PDF. (Usually 2 per PSD)
In order to allow the Transform>Distort for the placed PDF Smart Object, I have to place it, then "Create Smart Object". This means that the regular "Replace Contents" doesn't work. It does replace the PDF, but it loses the distortion that made it optically match with the perspective in the mock up. So, I am forced to use "Edit Contents" which opens a new window and adds steps.
►Wait for PS to open the Edit Contents in new window.
    ►File > Place new PDF.
►Save and close, return to Mockup File.
►Save As... Mockup File as Jpeg with proper name to reflect new BG.
I've been looking for a method like InDesign has, where I can easily replace all iterations of one PDF with another in the mockup. This presents a couple problems. Firstly, Photoshop doesn't really have "pages" so I'd still have to open all of the PSDs (since each one is a different view) and change them manually. I tried instead to just do it in InDesign, importing the base mockup PSD with one on each page and placing the PDF on top (So I can use the relink feature). This doesn't work because ID doesn't allow distorting of placed files, so the best I can get is a crappy shear to imitate perspective on the mockup and the mockups look rediculous. I am totally open to suggestions on this.
I have The Adobe Master Collection CS6. I feel like I must be missing something that will make this easier. Particularly in steps 4, 6, and 10 where I am doing the same repetative task over and over again, I wonder if there is a more efficient use of my time. I've thought about possible PS actions to replace the needed Smart Objects, but as far as I can tell I'd still have to place the new file, so I don't think it would save any time?
Also, I've searched the forums but haven't found a way to batch export to PDF with security. That alone would be a huge time saver. :/
Thanks for looking and I appreciate any advice!

    Peter,
I use styling to turn off Holidays in the month views. But, there are pages in the actual book that detail the year's US Holidays. So, unless I wanted to remove/re-add a page for each save they have to be in different Indd files I think. All of the variations have different content. There is a version with weekly meal planning, one with weekly lesson planning, some with week views, some with only month views. Some of the files are for add ons to the planner as well (activity pages, notes pages, optional covers etc. So, I'm probably stuck with having that many files. But I wish updating/saving as PDF was better.

  • Hyperlinks not saved correctly in PDF and Excel

    Hi,
I have a few reports with hyperlinks to other reports that contain multiple input parameters, which makes the links very long. ( greater than 400 characters )
When the reports are saved as excel, I am unable to invoke the child report on clicking the link as the link is not saved entirely ( can see that when i try to edit the hyperlink in excel ).  Therefore the child report opens but prompts for inputs as not all the inputs are passed
When saved as pdf, the link is not saved correctly and i cannot invoke the child report at all
Please can you suggest a solution/workaround? Alternately is it possible to disable the hyperlinks when saved as excel/pdf?
    Regards
    Sameer

    Hello,
I think this is a limitation in Excel where URL syntax has to be 255 characters or less
In order to prove that it's coming from excel and not BO, try in excel to create a false hyperlink which contains more than 255 characters.
A workaround might be to modify the cell as text and will not be recognized as a URL. So you should get it entirely.
Please let me know if it helps you
    Regards,
    Philippe

  • Highlighting text & adding notes to a secured pdf

    Hi,
I have a secured pdf (locked for edit) which is fine by me, but why can't I highlight the text or add notes to that PDF?
Am i missing something? I am not altering the text or anything, just highlighting it...
Other application, as well as the Windows 8 reader do allow it!
I am using Adobe PDF reader touch for Windows 8.
    Thanks

We bought a PDF book from the site that you mentioned and inspected the document restrictions.  The PDF book is encrypted.
Currently, Adobe Reader Touch does not support any changes to encrypted PDF documents, even if the document permissions allow "Changing the document" or "Commenting".
We hope to offer the capability of making changes to encrypted PDF in a future release.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • Can a JPEG be 'saved as' a PDF (or other file type)?

Can a JPEG file be saved as a PDF file?
Also, can it be saved in a file format that will allow the image to be inserted into, e.g., a WORD document? (Or can a JPEG itself simply be inserted into a WORD doc 'as is'?)
    Thanks.

You can reformat a .jpg to PDF.
No, it doesn't reformat it. The .jpg is simply embedded into the PDF file. As BDAqua noted, if it's a high resolution image, OS X's built in PDF creation module will knock it down to screen resolution.
For some reason, I was sent a chart (with numbers) as a jpeg file. Converting it to, and then printing it as, a PDF leaves the data in too small a font size.
What size is the .jpg before you place it into a PDF? Open it in Preview and press Command+I. What is the image size in pixels and image DPI (resolution)?
Is there any way to enlarge the text (via iPhoto, Preview, or some other Mac utility)?
72 dpi is low, screen resolution. 300 dpi is standard high, print resolution. So if the original is already a low res file, then there's little to nothing you can do to improve the text on a printed piece.

  • How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing.

How do i stop photoshop cs4 from quitting unexpectedly when saving a photoshop pdf? i attempted to download the adobe drive 5 but the installation keeps failing. I went through the process of clicking through the how to's and the troubleshooting and came to the conclusion that I need to install the adobe drive 5 but I can not complete the installation. I may be incorrect on this so I need immediate assistance as I have poster and ad deadlines. I also tried disabling the gatekeeper and solution 3 on the troubleshooting of slow saving on photoshop.
    Any help is much appreciated!
    Thank you!

Are you attempting to save the file to a network location instead of your local hard drive? If so, this is probably why you are encountering an issue and why Adobe Drive would be the solution. As we've documented, it is a bad idea to open from or save directly to a network source: Networks, removable media | Photoshop | CS4 and later. Drive can help you get around this by setting up an Adobe supported virtual connection to the network. Thus, if installing Adobe Drive is the solution you need and your need help with installing Drive, please post to the Downloading, Installing, Setting Up forum.
If you are not saving to a network location, then Adobe Drive is not going to be the answer. Then we'll need to know more about the file you are saving.

  • Bug Report:  "View PDF After Saving" Does Not Work When Saving as Photoshop PDF

The saved PDF file is not opening in Acrobat after saving a file as a Photoshop PDF. I noticed it happening a few times in earlier beta testing, but today it happened again.
I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.2 installed on MacPro with Lion OS 10.7.3. Photoshop public beta m415.  System info can be provided if needed.
The file I was trying to save was about 8 MB. Once it failed to open after save, I tried varied PDF settings and save locations. Also tried several different files. All were saved properly as PDF files, but would not continue to open in Acrobat as previous versions have done. The files open properly when you click on the file names in saved location.

I'm happy I could help and feel a bit proud to have found a real bug. The simplest work around is just clicking on the file list once it's done...that's certainly not a problem.

  • User can't open presentation saved as a PDF file

I sent a presentation saved as a PDF file and the user could not open it.  The error message received was that his computer needed Adobe Flash Player 16.0.  Despite installing it, he still gets the same error message.

Problem was solved by doing another installation of flash and rebooting.

  • Media file (quicktime) not playing when Pages document is saved as a pdf

I added a quicktime file (a movie trailer) to my presentation and it plays when in Pages - but when I export it to a pdf it is just a black space. 1. are these links/media files are supposed to be active when in a pdf format 2. how can I get the media file to play when it is saved as a pdf? 3. Will those who I email it to be able to play the media file when they open it up on their computer?
thanks so much in advance - I am under a tight deadline so any help would be appreciated!

Multimedia is not embedded in exported .pdf files.
You will need to relink them again in the .pdf using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

  • Adobe Reader Crashes while opening Secure PDF Documents

    Hi,
I have Adobe Reader 8.1.2. Up until today, i was able to open secure PDF documents without any issue. Suddenly, it started to give me errors, saying "Adobe Reader has encountered a problem and it needs to close. I have to tell Microsoft" and so on...
I tried re-installing 8.1.0, secure documents opened a few times and then the same problem returned. I can open normal PDF documents but the problem is with the secure ones.
    Rebooting, re-installing again didn't help.
What could be the issue and how to solve it? I have Trend Micro Antivirus s/w but i always had them all these days and everything was fine.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Can someone help me on this please?
I have tried removing Adobe Reader, re-install it but doesn't help. Secure documents do open sometimes but fail again. I have even tried removing Adobe Reader using MSI Cleanup Utility, no use.
The problem seems to be in the imapdb.dll. An error report is generated by Windows XP but it is rather large to fit in here.
I also Trend Micro Anti-Virus tool and it may have something to do with it is what i feel.
Any help on how to solve this will be great.
    Thanks

How do you make a secure pdf file editable?

The best way is to apply a digital signature to the file. Any other way can
