Saving a spreadsheet to iCloud
Any idea how I save a document to my iCloud account if someone else's ICloud user name is default on the laptop
Mountain Lion is 10.8. If you have Documents and Data selected in your iCould System Preferences, you aparently have Mountain Lion.
If you choose About This Mac from the Apple Menu, you should see this:

Saving an updated numbers spreadsheet to icloud
Hi Everybody!
I'm trying to learn how to use the icloud and numbers to seamlessly move between i-devices.
I use Numbers a lot on my ipad, and have installed it on my desktop as well.
I would like it if I could create a spreadsheet on my ipad and then update it on my laptop--and then save that updated version back to numbers in the icloud so that I can work on that same spreadsheet again on my ipad--just like on the commericials!!
How do I do that??? I cannot seem to find what is "home base" and keep ending up with various versions of the same document in different, confusing places.
How do i save that updated spreadsheet on my laptop back to the icloud???? There must be a simple solution for this that I'm just not seeing...
Thanks!!!What a mess it all is too! We have Numbers only to find you can't save spreadsheets to iCloud.
So - unbelievably for having paid a fortune for i-Pads we send them via e-mail (in Excel form nobody else but Apple understands Numbers) to our computers (also Macs but that may change if this stupidity is going to continue with Apple)
On arrival - Save to where ever - THEN we open Google Docs (who understand how to make these things simple) - drag and drop into browser of Google Docs - it is there in seconds and you can work on it in a browser both from ANY computer and the iPad (but it makes it less enjoyable because unlike Googledocs, the iPad insists YOU must click 'submit' for each line or entry you put in or edit.

Just to say, it is beyond belief that the iPad won't just connect to the ether and work simply through a browser like Google Docs does. Believe there are plans somewhere for a tablet with no apps just a connection to the ether ...... -
I accidentally deleted documents from Pages on my iphone - and now they won't show up on my mac anymore either. I must have saved them just on icloud and not on my mac, too. is there anyway to recover these documents?
On a mac, when you save docs to icloud, a local copy is also saved. It's saved at:
~/Library/Mobile Documents
Note that Library in the user's home folder is now hidden, so you'll have to set Finder to view hidden files.
The Mobile Documents folder has subfolder where copies of the doc/data files are stored.
If the file(s) are no longer there, then use your Time Machine backups to get copies back to the mac. -
I recently saved my contacts in iCloud and now all of my contacts are on my daughters phone. I only wanted them saved to my PC. Why did this happen and how can I fix it? Is it because she downloaded the update to her phone?
Your daughter must have signed into your iCloud account, perhaps when she updated her phone. You can confirm this by going to Settings>iClloud on her phone and seeing if she is using the same iCloud ID.
To fix this you would need to migrate her phone to a separate iCloud account. To do this, start by saving any photo stream photos that she wishes to keep on your phone to her camera roll by opening her my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tapping the share icon (box with upware pointing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and provide the password when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone. This only deletes the account from her phone, not from iCloud; it won't effect your device(s). When you delete the account you will be asked if you want to keep or delete the iCloud data from her phone. If she needs to migrate a copy of the data to her new account, choose Keep; otherwise, choose Delete. Then sign back in with a separate Apple ID to create her new account and if migrating data to the new account, choose Merge when prompted.
Once she is on a separate account, if she migrated a copy of the data to her new account you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into her new iCloud account and delete your data from her account. -

You need to open the documents on an iOS device before you can open them as anything other than pages documents. -
Can't Open Numbers spreadsheets in iCloud
I'm hoping someone can help me ... I have some numbers spreadsheets saved in iCloud. When I go to open them, it says that the file can't be opened, whether I try to access it from my Mac or from the Icloud website. I was able to get a preview of some of the documents so at least i can start over, but one document is password protected and I can't get it to open. I've tried saving it to my desktop, changing the extension, looking at the permissions, and no luck. This is so frustrating! I do have a time machine back up but since this is stored on the cloud I'm not sure if it would have saved a file on the machine.
Any advice appreciated, I saved things on iCloud to ensure that if my computer crashed I'd still have access and it seems that was not the right thing to do!
Thanks much.Library > Mobile Documents > com~apple~Numbers normally wouldn't show up in a Spotlight search. But you should be able to find it in Finder by holding down the option key and choosing Library from the Go menu.
If it's not there then that suggests you haven't been successful in activating iCloud sync on your Mac. You might check setttings in two places in System Preferences > iCloud.
Documents and Data must be checked:
AND, after clicking 'Option...', this Numbers.app must be checked:
If these two boxes are both checked and you're still having trouble then try signing out of iCloud and back in.

Can i back up my photos and saved files/ music using icloud?
i don't have an external hard drive right now to back up my files before i upgrade to os x snow leopard.. i know i'm behind... so if anybody could help that would be great!!
If you are upgrading TO snow leopard, then whichever version of OSX you are currently using, it is not compatible with icloud. And besides, a mac cannot back up photos and music to icloud. Few file formats can be saved there as well. icloud is not your solution.
If you are not using Time Machine to store backups to an external drive, then I don't know what to say. You can't use Dropbox since it requires the files to be stored locally as well as in their cloud. You have to get an external drive, smaller sizes are not that expensive. -
Want to travel only with my Ipad. Would like to easily upload, with one click, large 7GB folders of both Excel spreadsheets and Word documents to ICloud and then be able to view, change and create individual spreadsheets and documents using Numbers and Pages on my Ipad through the internet? Also, this would exceed the 5GB offered free, but someone said if I am only syncing and not backing up there would be no charge. Please explain.

Pages and Numbers can save to iCloud, Word and Excel can not. -
Hello!
I recently downloaded Keynote, and I am trying to save a Keynote presentation in my iCloud, but iCloud is not coming up as an option under "Where" (to save). How can I fix this? (note - this is my first time saving anything to iCloud, so perhaps I don't have it set up properly? I do have "Documents and Data" checked in System Preferences -> iCloud.)

Excel opens at the exact saved row and cell position, is there a way of saving Numbers to do this?
There lies a major problem.
OpenOffice spreadsheets and similar Office Software such as Neo exhibit the same erratic Apple Mighty Mouse behaviour, with unwanted cell moves etc my work was ruined when using these office suites.
Whereas the Apple Mighty Mouse is very stable and works very smoothly in iWorks 08 Numbers.
With the Neo Office suite installed, I was obliged to use two mice, a Microsoft mouse for Neo spreadsheet as this was stable when doing spreadsheet work and the Apple Mighty Mouse for Aperture. The Mighty Mouse is brilliant when viewing photo's in Aperture, the delicate touch of the scroll is a delight to use.
I was unable to adjust the Apple mouse operating characteristics when using the third party office software and loath to use the Microsoft mouse.
I am now free of Microsofts hardware and software, I much prefer the Apple product over all others. -
Unable to save Numbers spreadsheets to iCloud or Mac
I have created a spreadsheet in Numbers '09 version 2.3 and every time I try and save it I get a message that says "The file "Untitled.numbers-tef" couldn't be opened".
Does anybody know what I'm missing?

DJI had tried that too and it didn't work either. I ended up starting from scratch and it seems to be working now. Not sure what happened but it looked like it auto-saved with some long temp file name and then wouldn't let me do anything to it. Thanks for the help anyways.

Can I delete infromation/saved items on my iCloud account?
I would like to delete purchased books that are saved on my iCloud account. Is this possible?

From your post I understand you have some purchased items from the iTunes Store that you want to delete. You cannot delete items from iCloud, but you are able to hide them.

Saved a spreadsheet in Numbers. Opened again and all info was gone. Solution?
I did a spreadsheet that was an excel but saved it in Numbers on my desktop.
When I reopened it, all the info I had input was gone.
Is there anyway to restore it? Why didn't it save?It sounds like you imported an Excel file into Numbers (or opened it with Numbers), entered some new data, then saved it. When you reopened it in Numbers, the original data was there but not your new stuff.
First guess at the problem: You are opening the Excel file again, not the Numbers file that you edited and saved. -

Ok i have now learned a lot more about this saving a Numbers file to the cloud, in the version of Numbers i have, there is not a Save As option, i looked in the Help File and to do anything like Save As you have to first File/Duplicate and Save as from there, but this idea does not give access to the LIBRARY.
However through searching around more diligently i found that to get a Numbers file (and a Pages file as well no doubt) up onto the Cloud, so it can be edited by any of your devices, you simply need to drag the file, from the finder window onto the iiCloud/iWork/Numbers web page !, it really is as easy as that.
