Saving a trimmed clip as new file?

hi
i'm tring to resize clips down to just the parts i want, i'm not wanting to make a dvd or anything at this point.
in ulead i often used a feature let me save a clip that i trimmed down off as a new file. i did this to save on disc space and get rid the junk frames.  in elements i can see how to trim from the left and from the right, and to split a clip, but i can not figure out how to save off that trimmed video to a new file.  or even change the length of the original.
thanks

Once you have your trimmed clip on your timeline, just go to Share/Personal Computer/DV-AVI to output it.

  • Elements 11: saved version treated as a new file

    When I edit a picture and save the result (using either "save" or "save as" and making sure there are ticks in "Save in Elements Organiser" and "Save in version set with original"), the edited copy is often (perhaps 3 times out of 4) treated not as a new version but as a new file. When I close the edit, I am told that there is a new file in a watched folder. When I accept this, I am offered any tags which were applied to the original (which helps a bit) but then have to find my way to the edited file and the original, and manually make them into a set. This is a real pain- it adds a couple of minutes to each edit. I am using Photoshop 11 on a Windows 8 laptop with a 1000GB hard disc (with about 100GB free). My catalog is quite big- about 70,000 items. I am a long-time Elements user (since the original?). This problem is fairly new (ie months not years)- certainly since I moved to V11. This is independent of the format of the original (in my case, RAW or jpeg) or the edited file (in my case usually jpeg).
    Message was edited by: PaulRichardKingston- added a sentence about file format.

    I'm now on Elements 12, and the same problem is back only worse. When I edit a pictures and save as version set, 9 times out of 10 the edited picture is treated as a new addition to the catalogue. So I try the method that worked with Elements 11- switch off "Watch folders". When I do this the saved picture simply disappears- it isn't saved as version set, and it doesn't pop up as a new picture. After trying this with ten pictures, I retrieve the updated pictures by using file/Get photos and videos/from files and folders, pointing at the relevant folder. They are there, so I retrieve them and individually add them to a set with each original. But this is a long-winded way of doing what Elements should be doing for me automatically. I try closing Elements and re-starting, but that doesn't help.
    The curious thing is that when I switch watched folders back on, Elelements just very occasionally does the right thing- it saves the updated picture as a version set. About one time in ten, but at random.
    This does look to me like a performance-related problem.
    I'm running Elements on a Windows 8.1 system, with hardware Intel Core i5 and 8GB memory, and a one terabyte hard disc (it's a Lenova ideapad laptop). The picture folder hierarchy is big- currently 658GB. I do make efforts to prune it, and plainly if I was able to devote a solid week to doing this could bring the size down significantly. My main camera has a 24MP sensor and I often use RAW, which doesn't help (though I usually delete the RAW after my initial editing session on each group of pictures). Would it help to do a major pruning exercise? People when I raised this before thought not.
    Any ideas? This problem is a real pain- nine times out of ten when I do an edit, I have to bring the edited picture in as new, find it amongst the group with the relevant tag, and make it into a version set with the original..

  • Flash gives me an error when I compile after I 'Saved As' the FLA with new file name

    This seems weird. My code worked in the original FLA (using AS3) but when I 'Save As' as a new doc,
    It gives me a compiling error below:
    TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
    at flash_fla::MainTimeline/frame1()
    Any ideas why this happens?
    Does it have to do with path to the Library? Is there a way to reset this within Flash or do I have to copy and paste the code to a totally new AS3 file?
    Thanks

    kglad,
    It doesn't specify what line the error takes place.
    The weird thing is...
    when I copy and paste the code on a totally new AS3 document and rebuild the movie clips within that document, it works fine.
    but for some reason...when I 'Save As' to a new file name, it's like it doesn't acknowledge the MovieClips in the Library anymore..
    It's kind of frustrating...
    Not really a show stopper....but it does waste some time.
    I don't know if you run into anything like this before.

  • Saving m4a or m4v as new file at double speed

    Hi - I know I can listen to or watch an m4a or m4v file at double speed in QT7 using the A/V controls, but is there a way that I can save as or export the file at double speed? I want to be able to replay it at double speed on my ipod.
    Thanks

    A/V control settings are not saved with the file except for playback in QuickTime Player (and only that machine).
    In order to "trick" the QuickTime Player app to play the fie at double (or any other speed) you need to make a new file. You do this by adding (scaled) your source file with a "dummy" file.
    The dummy file represents the "time" you wish for the source file to display at your desired playback speed. I use audio only files to keep things simple.
    Once you add (Scaled) to a shorter duration the video and audio tracks will playback at a different speed.
    You "extract" via the Movie Properties window of QuickTime Player Pro.

  • Adobe Audition 3.0, saved a multisession, problems adding new files after re-opening

    Hello,
    I have saved a multisession track to continue another time, and now I tried to adding back more files to the multisession, but I get a message "interpret sound format as" and I have to choose the sample rate, channel and Resolution... After I let the setting as default, the track is added but it is messed up cause I don't hear the song anymore... I only hear an annoying noise throughout the whole song. Also when I click on a song to open it, in the right box it says RAW PCM or unsupported format, but I haven't had these problems before when I started to make the multisession!
    It seems something has messed up when I saved the multisession but I can not figure out.
    Does anybody know what I did wrong and how I can fix this?
    Thanks in advance

  • Premier pro, can i save multiple trimmed clips in h264 to new files.

    i have to reduce the size from 120gb to 20 gb by cutting out the unwanted but leave in seperate files.

    You certainly can do this in Premiere by importing a clip, trimming it and exporting to whatever file type and quality you desire.  However if that's all you're looking to do, it's like using a $200,000 Bentley to take your kid down the block when all you need is a wagon.
    If you are on a Mac, Quicktime Player will allow you to trim clips and resave the trimmed version, and it's free as part of the OS.

  • Merged Clips - Undo? Source Name? Create New Files

    I merged clips when I synced them which has turned out to be the worst decision ever. I'm shocked at how poorly this system works. I've been trying to find original files, use XML and a few other things but always run into issues because it's referencing a merged clip rather than the source files and it has no connection to the original files.
    I was curious is there a way to revert to the clips as separate audio / video? Is there a way to export or create new trimmed clips for the sequence to reference? I tried Media Manger but it still refered to the clips as merged. I just want to get my sequence with the video used as actual clips. Please help! Thank you!

    I'm not aware of any way to unmerge.
    You can export out new media for each clip and replace the merged clip in the sequence, but that's likely a fairly tedious task.
    Why do you need to undo the merge?

    Thanks for the follow up.
    Missing in this equation were the version of Premiere Elements that you were using and the computer operating system on which it was running. But...
    The deed is done. But.....Until now and after you went ahead and moved to version 12, we now learn what version of Premiere Elements you were using. We still do not know the computer operating system involved.
    You just said Premiere Elements 10. Premiere Elements 10 is hit by a serious known display issue if the computer uses a NVIDIA GeForce video card/graphics card. In this issue, the only remedy is to roll back the driver version to about May 2013. The description of the problem and how to do the roll back are described in one of the Announcements at the top of this forum. What video card/graphics card does your computer use?
    On another front, Adobe will be releasing a new version of Premiere Elements any day now. No one but Adobe knows the feature set for the new version. That type of information is announced at the moment of release of the new version.
    So the remedy to the problem that you presented in this thread could have been...
    1. Rolling back the NVIDIA GeForce driver version to about May 2013 if possible (Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, may not be possible)
    2. Move to another version of Premiere Elements (which you did)
    I offer the above for consideration so that you can review your decisions. We are pleased to learn that Premiere Elements 12/12.1 works for you.
    Please do not hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarifications, but remember that the answers are in the details.
    Best wishes,
    ATR

  • I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (.m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing)

    I get the error message in QuickTime "operation stopped the operation is not supported for this media" most times when I try and export an .AVI file as something else (e.g. .m4v). I have not touched the file in any way (no trimming, clipping or other editing), all I want QuickTime to do is export the file in a compressed format. Bizzarely, if I shutdown and open QuickTime many times I can occasionally export a clip as another format (maybe one in 10 times). I have seen that other users have had a similar problem after clipping files in QuickTime but this seems to be a slightly different bug in that all I do is open the file and then try and export the file as is - either way, this is a very annoying bug

    @Z_B-B, thank you for taking the time to respond to my cry for help. However, the link you supplied does not address the problem: I am not trying to export from Final Cut Pro to QuickTime, I am trying to export from QuickTime to the rest of the world (like people's iPhones and Ipads) in .m4v format (so I am not emailing my freinds such huge files).
    If I were to spend hundreds of Dollars on a copy of Final Pro I could export directly from there and not have to bother with QuickTime, but I do not take enough video clips to justify the cost. I must say that I never had any of these problems before I decided to switch from Snow Leopard to Mountai Lion.

  • Writing to specific cells of existing Excel file and saving as a new file using LV 8.6

    Hi all,
    I am new to LV and am currently tasked to create a program that can open an existing excel file, input data in the program that will be written to a specific cell in the excel file and then saving the current edited file as a new file.
    I have browsed through all the forums but I am unable to view the examples sent in them as I am using LV 8.6 which is why I am still having trouble visualizing how to create a program like this. Can anyone help me and mentor me how to write this program in this version of LV? I do not have a microsoft office toolkit hence another approach could be preferred. Thank you.

    Solved!

    Thank you for helping me on this. However I do not really understand how does ActiveEx work. I have created a Vi according to the picture that you provided but there was some error in running the file.
    Below is my own VI that I am trying to create. It consists of multiple string inputs which I am trying to input each into an existing file. I have created a separate txt file which has the cell numbers. I am trying to allocate each string into each respective cell in an existing file. I am currently having the problem of doing this "allocation" of each string as I do not have the microsoft office tool kit. Is there any other way for me to do so?
    Also, I would like to save the newly created file as a new file with the name as seen in my VI. How would I be able to do it?
    Please help me as I am stuck here but do not know how to continue

  • Link edited clips to new media files

    Hi
    In order to send my timeline from Premiere Pro to Resolve I need to convert my AVCHD-media to ProRes (Resolve won't work with AVCHD).
    My problem is, that I already edited my timeline with the original AVCHD from my FS700 (stupid - I know), and now I need to link the timeline clips to the converted ProRes media. Is there any easy way to do this is Premiere Pro? I've imported the ProRes into Premiere with the same filenames - only thing changed is the .MTS --> .mov
    Thanks in advance
    /Rune Borre-Jensen

    Assuming the ProRes clips have the same names as the originals, that only the extension changes, with Premiere Pro closed rename the folder containing the original media.  When you reopen the project, PP will ask you where the media is.  Point it to the new files.

  • Saving File with new file name

    I am subclassing JFileChooser and implementing ActionListener for being able to save and open files.
    I am using different file extensions (.ac and .ps), and when saving, I first check that the file name has the right extension.
    If it doesn't, I add the right extension.
    But for some reason it doesn't show my saved new file, even though in the debugger it goes through all the code of saving.
    Here is the main portion of my code before the code of saving (adaptee is my JFileChooser):
    File ananyaFile = adaptee.getSelectedFile();
    String name = ananyaFile.getName();
    int l = name.length();
    if (!(l >= 4 && name.charAt(l - 3) == '.' &&
    ((adaptee.getFileFilter() == adaptee.acExtensionFilter &&
    name.charAt(l - 2) == 'a' && name.charAt(l - 1) == 'c') ||
    (adaptee.getFileFilter() == adaptee.psExtensionFilter &&
    name.charAt(l - 2) == 'p' && name.charAt(l - 1) == 's'))))
    if (adaptee.getFileFilter() == adaptee.acExtensionFilter)
    name = name + ".ac";
    ananyaFile = new File(name);
    adaptee.setSelectedFile(ananyaFile);
    else if (adaptee.getFileFilter() == adaptee.psExtensionFilter)
    name = name + ".ps";
    ananyaFile = new File(name);
    adaptee.setSelectedFile(ananyaFile);
    Why does it not show my saved new file? Do I have to set it somewhere else?
    Thanks for your time!

    Ok, I put the code which adds the extension
    File ananyaFile = this.getSelectedFile();
    if (ananyaFile == null)
       return;
    String name = ananyaFile.getName();
    int l = name.length();
    if (!(l >= 4 && name.charAt(l - 3) == '.'  &&
       name.charAt(l - 2) == 'a' && name.charAt(l - 1) == 'c')
       name = name + ".ac";
       ananyaFile = new File(name);
       this.setSelectedFile(ananyaFile);
    }into the approveSelection method of my subclass of JFileChooser.
    If someone wants to open a file without writing the extension and the file with the extension (which was added in my code) exists, it does get opened.
    Also, if someone wants to save a file without writing the extension and the file with the extension (which was added in my code) exists, it does ask if you want to replace the file (as I have programmed).
    But if you say yes, or if you want to save a file without the extension that doesn't yet exists (with the extension), it doesn't save it.
    However, saving works fine if someone writes the full file name into the File name box.
    Well, I would like to allow the user not to write the extension not only for opening a file, but also for saving a file.
    Please help! I am getting pretty desperate! Thanks!

  • High sample rate data acquisition using DAQ and saving data continuously. Also I would like to chunck data into a new file in every 32M

    Hi:
      I am very new to LabView, so I need some help to come up with an idea that can help me save data continuously in real time. Also I don't want the file to be too big, so I would like to crete a new file in every 32 mega bytes, and clear the previous buffer. Now I have this code can save voltage data to TDMS file, and the sample rate is 2m Hz, so the volume of data increase very fast, and my computer only have 2G ram, so the computer will freeze after 10 seconds I start to collect data. I need some advise from you briliant people.
    Thanks very much I really appreciate that.
