Saving Actions

How does one save actions? The 'save' option is greyed out in the actions dropdown panel.

You highlight the action set the action is in in the Actions Palette. Then you use the Action Palette's fly-out menu item save action. The fly-out menu pops up when you click on the little icon in the top right corner in the Actions palette. Save the actions sets into a folder like My Photoshop Actions.  So you know where you keep them. When you upgrade to the next version of Photoshop you know where to load them from...

  • ____CS3 Glitch when saving Actions

When I save an action onto my hard drive, it says it saves but doesn't seem to appear. However, when I make a new folder when I'm saving, it appears to save okay. - Has anyone else experienced this Bug?

Same things is happening to me.

  • Saving actions before reinstalling CS3

I intend to do a full new install of vista 64 bit thereby causing the reinstallation of CS3. Is there any way to save my actions so that i can use them again after reinstallation rather than having to recreate them?
Secondly, is there any information whether CS4 will support more than 4 gb of ram?
    Thanks
    Roger Lieberman

Just back them up from the actions folder. Copy them back when you're
done. And don't forget to deactivate the software first.
And yes, Photoshop CS4 will be available as native 64 bit as well as the
    Dave Milbut 32 bit edition.

  • Customer Exit or BADI for PP61 (Shift Planning) for Saving action

I have a requirement to enhance PP61 (shift planning). First of all this program accepts any update of attendance for values before than current date, i think it should not happen by default.  Thus we have to disable editing or display an error message when any user updates values for previous dates than today. I tried HRBAS00INFTY Badi but didn't get solution. Please give any Customer Exit or BADI name for this purpose.

i have tried BADI - HRPAD00INFTY but it does not have sufficient parameters for this requirement. And i don't understand EXIT_SAPFP50M_001 or 002 use...can you expalin me how it will help out my problem?

  • Win 7 won't allow saving a new action in CS4 (32bit side)

One would think that a clean install of CS4 under Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit would set the program to allow saving actions and presets.  I'm working in the 32 bit side (x86 Programs) because some of the filters I use aren't 64 bit compatible.  I created a new action in an action set that I had dragged over into the x86 version Presets > Actions folder and the program / system won't let me save it.  When I try I just get a Program "error". If I shift to a new file name, I get a dialog that says I don't have permission to save in that folder.  This isn't making a lot of sense since I had adequate permission to install the program on the drive and in  the programs and (x86) programs folders, I had adequate permission to drag the old action set into the Presets > Actions folder (and they work fine), but now I don't have the ability to save an action??
Has anyone run into this or anything like it?  I really don't want to get into the idiocy of saving it to the desktop and then copying it into the Presets > Actions folder so it will overwrite and let me get on with things.
    Thanks
    Rick

Thanks.  I finally resolved the issue by allowing the security category
Users / Owner-PC full authority.  Actions now save as they should.  Its not
my preferred option, but since this is a one person machine I can get away
with it.  I suspect that your HD was set to allow Administrators full
control (as mine was) and that running the program as an Administrator let
the desired security permissions to work.

  • BUG:  Saved Brightness/Contrast Actions Steps Interpreting "Use Legacy" Differently

Photoshop CS6 is interpreting saved Brightness/Contrast action steps differently than CS5.
The following two screen grabs were captured after double-clicking the exact same saved step in a saved action that removes banding noise.
Note that Photoshop CS5 has interpreted the step as having the [ ] Use Legacy value selected, while CS6 has not.
This could be at the root of why some folks are reporting actions compatibility issues.

Allowing this failure to remain in the release is going to mean I'm going to have customer issues with my commercial actions, many of which I have not had to change for 6 major version releases now.
    It needs to be addressed!
Other folks are getting acknowledgement and feedback from Adobe personnel, ''I have logged a bug'', etc. Could I please ask for the same courtesy?
I can supply you with an action you can use to test with if you'd like.  Matter of fact, here's one.  Run it on Photoshop CS5 and CS6 to see a major difference in results.

  • I used to use PS "actions" are they in PSE 8 for Mac?

I have been using an old version of Photoshop for Mac. Under  the Windows heading there was an Actions option where I could "record" some actions to edit photos and the"play" it to perfrom the same actions on different photos.
In PSE 8 for Mac I see that under Guided Edit there is an Action player with 4 presets, none of which suit my purposes. It says that I can add (from where I don't know) or create my own actions sets by referring to the Help menu. When I search the help menu for " Create Action set" I get 15 topics and none of them seem to be about creating actions sets.
I'd like to be able to record a set of acttions such as OPEN FILE- SIZE IMAGE-UNSHARP MASK-SAVE-CLOSE- and then play it back.
    Help appreciated.
    thanks,
    Rob

When you save an action from photoshop 7, you should be able to
choose the place for saving (i.e. desktop).
The default place for saving actions is very often in the ps7 application folders.
    Something like: Applications>Photoshop 7>Presets>Photoshop Actions.
As far as what actions from ps7 work in pse8, try to record steps in your
action that are available in pse8. Something like unsharp mask will work,
but not a command such as convert to cmyk. There are alot of commands
that are not on the pse8 menus that do work such as a layer mask or trim.
It would be good idea to test your actions in pse8, before installing a whole bunch and
finding that half of them don't work.
You could make test action for this purpose. In ps7, record an action
    such as Image>Trim.
Name this action set Test (you can name the actual actions anything you want)
and put it in your pse8 photo creations>photo effects folder.
Then delete (move to your desktop) the MediaDatabase.db3 and start pse7
(this will take a while to rebuild the effects panel).
The Test action should be visable in the effects panel after selecting
photo effects and show all. It wiil just be a black thumbnail named Test.
From now on when you want to test an action, just replace the Test action
with another action named Test, but with the action steps your testing
and no need to delete any files (database).
By testing your actions in this way, you avoid the hassle of making a
xml file and a png thumbnail for an action that may not work.
When installing actions that have been tested, you also need a xml file
and a png thumbnail file in addition to the action. (look at xml and png
files already in the photo effects folder for examples).
You don't have worry about the jpeg files, as elements generates these itself.
It's a good idea to delete (move to desktop) the the MediaDatabase.db3
and the ThumbDatabase.db3 anytime you install actions other than the Test action.
After you start pse8 and everything works, you can delete those files from your desktop.
There is also an action player in pse8 under guided edit>automated actions.
As tempting as it may be to test actions with the actions player, i would avoid that.
One very good reason is that some of commands that are in pse8 don't work with
the actions player, for example, any of the transform commands.
In addition to texaschicksblog mentioned above, you may also want to read this pdf:
    http://www.camner.net/files/actions_in_PSE_8_for_mac.pdf
    Hope some of this helps.

this is my set of saved actions...i was told to paste it in here...is this what you ment?

Who told you to post in the scripting forum…? To be honest you a talking to a pretty small selection of AI users here… Actions would be better discussed in the General Fourm where more users use them… That and I don't know a user who posts in this little community who uses CC yet…
    #target illustrator
    var aiActions = File( Folder.desktop + '/YourActionsNameHere.aia' );
    if ( aiActions.exists ) {
              app.loadAction( aiActions );
    } else {
              alert( 'Could NOT locate your Actions' );
I've no idea if the above works Im using CS5 so can't test… You could try adding to a Startup Scripts folder in your app folder…

  • Data Set Save As Action

I'm working on learning how to use variables in AI so I can do variable pieces with fancier design layouts than I can do in InDesign.  I've gotten through creating XML files, learning how to run scripts, writing a script to convert an excel XML file to an Illustrator Data Set, and loading and reviewing the multiple sets.  One last problem.  When I create the Save As action, even though I select the Data Set name as the naming convention, it keeps saving each data set as the same file name I created the action with (causing me to have only one file output).  If I select the Override Action commands button, it does save with the proper names, but errors out if I've set it to save as PDF, and if I've got it set to save as EPS, the output files don't have an extension, so I would have to go through each one and add the extension before I can open or combine into a multi page pdf.
Any ideas on where I'm going wrong?  I just created a new action, recorded going to Save As, and saved the file, which is sweet since it saves with all the proper settings (bleed etc.).  I've tried setting the action by using the Insert Menu Item command, but that just runs an action where I would have to name each file and select the Save As options.

You can use "Save Copy" instead of "Save As", which will keep your extension, but you must take care not to rename the file in any way when it is saved using this method for the purpose of recording a saving action.

  • Problem with 'action' attriubte when using 'rendered'

    I have something really strange;
I have a JSF page used to insert a record and when inserting is successful, I set a REQUEST scope parameter called 'saved' with a value of 'true' as following:
FacesContext.getCurrentInstance().getExternalContext().getRequestMap().put("saved",true);Now, in the JSF page I already have a <h:commandButton ...> on the SAME previous JSF page used to collect the data :
<h:commandButton rendered="#{requestScope.saved}" action="#{insertionBean.displayNew}" value="Create another"/>As it is shown, the rendering of this button is conditional ONLY after complete inserting. Until now every thing is OK, and the button rendered only as expected, but what is not expected is that when I click on the button the page only reloads and the method in the action attribute is never fired.
Does the attribute rendered have something to do with RestoreView at the server side? Becasue when I DELETE it, the button fires the method, the problem is only when I use it in this scope.
How I can accomplish this goal?!
    Thanks for helpful people

The value of the rendered attribue is re-evaluated during apply request values phase. So you need to transfer it to the next request using h:inputHidden or, better, t:saveState (so that it also survives validations).

  • Automator pdf reduce file size action

I have a saved action to reduce file size  for pdfs and want to change the resolution, but it's grayed out. Can someone tell me how I can do this?
    Thank you!

    Cathy,
You have posted your question in a forum dedicated to the Final Cut Studio application Color. It is a very specialized program to grade (adjust) the color in video/film images. We know nothing regarding PDFs.
Have you tried posting this on an Adobe support site?
    Good luck,
    x

  • Installing 3rd party actions where (CS4)

    Mac, osx 10.5.6; CS4
WHERE do I put (install, add) third party atn and asl files?
    I see some in root>application?CS4>presets>actions
    also
    User>lib>applicationsupport>adobe>CS4>presets
    Thanks a bunch.

CS4 seems to prefer to install User-created Actions, Styles etc., in:
    User/Library/Application Support/Adobe/ Adobe Photoshop CS4/Presets/.
I don't know if the reason for doing this is so that we don't lose our personal Actions etc. if the Application itself is un-installed but it might be.
If you are the only User of Photoshop on your machine you might choose to put your own saved Actions and Styles in the equivalent folder in your Application/Photoshop folder as we did in earlier versions but it does seem that Photoshop can find them in either location but looks first in the User location by default; but subsequently goes to the last location to which you navigated.
I think that having Adobe-installed Presets in one place; and User-saved Presets elsewhere is confusing.

  • Setting artboard size in an action CS4

I'm converting large numbers of emf files to svg files.
In CS3 I can do this simply by recording, open, save as , close.
In CS3 it doesn't take account of the artbord in this process so It doesn't matter what the size of the original graphic is, the SVG always matches.
When I do exactly the same thing in CS4 the emf open on a letter size artboard, then the saved SVG is letter size not the original size.
The action wont save the steps of going to the artbord menu and setting as 'fit artboard to artword bounds'
Does anyone know how to ignore the artboard when saving as, or setting the artboard size to fit as default?
    Thanks

Thanks for the steps, but when I follow your steps by hand it works, but they don't  work in an action.
In the action  list recorced I see
    open
    select all
    copy
    paste in front
    [blank line]
    save as
    close
and when I try and run this saved action, whne it get to the blank line I get a message box pop up saying 'To create Artboard, select non-rotated rectangles that are not clipping marsks.'
And since the action list doesn't list each action recorded I ca nt see what is happening.
    Any ideas?
I have attched my .aia file with my original action in and the new one suggested.

  • Recover photoshop actions after application crash

Can actions be rocovered after a Photoshop CS6 application crash?

If you recorded and saved you actions you can load them. I you never saved actions you recorded or modified and you have a system backup you may be able to recover them from your backup.  Photoshop saves Actions you record or modify into you user ID Photoshop preference file "Actions Palette.psp"
