Saving After Magnetic Lasso
I was wondering, how do I save a image after cropping it with the magnetic lasso tool? Everytime I save it it saves the background as well.
The magnetic lasso tool is used for making a selection of an object For example, if you have a picture of lamp, you would use the tool to lay down anchor points as you go around the lamp, and after you have made a complete loop, you will see "marching ants" indicating that the selection is complete (see help files). Now, go to Layer>new>layer via copy, and the lamp will be on its own layer, separate from the background. You can copy/paste the lamp on another picture, or a new background.
The crop tool is used to remove unwanted areas surrounding an object, or to make a picture conform in size to card stock to which you will print.
If you save a picture as a JPEG file, you will always have a background. This file type does not support transparency. PNG and GIF support transparency..

How to release selection after magnetic lasso?
PE5 - I can't release the selection after using the magnetic lasso tool and completing my edits on the selection. There is no commit/cancel icon, and clicking away from the layer, or on another layer still will not release the selection. The only thing I can do is save, close and re-open the project - then it is released. Any suggestions?

If you go to the Select menu, you'll see that, next to the Deselect command is this shortcut. -
Magnetic lasso tool doesn't work after installing Adobe extension manager update
Hi , I've just installed Extension Manager Update 6.0.5.9 yesterday and today I've get a wired problem with my bambo tablet.I've used this tablet for 3-4 years without problem. The problem I've now is when I drag lasso tool on an image to make selection it doesn't make a selection even it is showed in the history state that I've used lasso,or magnetic lasso. My machine is a Mac Pro 2010,Quad-Core Intel Xeon running on Lion 10.7.5 and my bamboo driver is the latest version 5.3.2-2. Even now I've change to use freeform path I've still cannot change form path to selection.

How do I recover a selected magnetic lassoed image?
I brought an image into Photoshop Elements 8. I used the magnetic lasso to define the portion of the image that was of interest for further work. I arrived at a really good border on the irregular object. I clicked Select and, under that, I clicked on Save Selection. It asked me to name my saved image so I called it "Magnetic Lassoed."
It was the end of my work day so I wanted to shut down. I X'd out of the image on the Photoshop edit screen. After that I could not find the defined image that I had just created, saved, and named. I clicked on the Select tab expecting to Load Selection again. But all of the entries under Select were, and remain, grayed out.
How can I recover my image? Failing that and repeating the Magnetic Lasso technique, how do I avoid having the same thing happen again? Thanks.Further to above, you may ask what is the utility of the save selection command? Here is one good use for it:
Open a picture file and make a selection, e.g. with the magnetic lasso
Go to Select>save selection, name it, ok.
Open a Levels adjustment layer above the previous layer, and you will see the selection embedded in the Layer mask (the white rectangle)
Now, go to Select>load selection, and open a hue/saturation adjustment layer above the levels adjustment layer. The selection is embedded in the layer mask here as well.
This allows access to the adjustment layer controls for both levels & h/s, independently, and the ability to paint on the masks with a black brush or a white brush to reveal or hide things as needed. -
i started my photoshop touch after some while and now i cant find the magnetic lasso tool it used to be there i used it all the time for editting but now i cant find it maybe i disabled it somehow. can anyone tell how to enable it again?
I honestly don't remember a magnetic lasso tool. (I've been using PS Touch since version 1.0.) The closest things I can think of are the Quick Selection Tool, the Scribble Selection Tool and the Magic Wand Tool, all located under the same set of tools (3rd set from the top in the tool panel).

Using Magnetic Lasso crashes Photoshop CS4
Hi,
I use the magnetic lasso to cut out product shots regularly using Photoshop CS4 and it regularly quits on me after I've lasso'd about 2-3 images.
This used to happen on my previous Macbook Pro 15" with 3GB RAM and I put it down to some system specific issue. But I've just got a new MB15" with 4GB RAM with a clean install of OSX and clean install of CS4 (didn't even migrate prefs) and it's still happening.
It seems to happen less when I have the magnetic lasso's 'frequency' set low (10-20) but the selection isn't tight enough around the object as when I have it set to 100.
The crash log reports:

I leave Activity Monitor running on my other screen and can see that I have free memory at the time of the crash.
Anyone know how to stop this from happening or should I just file a bug report? I do keep sending the crash reports to Adobe.
A quick google shows this problem has been around since CS2.

Magnetic lasso and auto sharpen not working correctly
anyone having this problem with PSE 3.0
Which operating system are you using?
What is not working with the Magnetic Lasso Tool and Auto Sharpen?
Have you tried resetting the photoshop elements 3 preferences?
To reset the preferences:
Press and hold the Shift+Alt+Ctrl (windows) or Shift+Option+Command (mac) keys just after starting the launch of the pse 3 editor.
Keep holding the keys down until you get a dialog asking if you want to delete the photoshop elements settings file

Screen flickers when using magnetic lasso
Hello,
First I want to say that my english is kinda crappy so, sorry for that.
My problem is, when i'm drawing a line with the magnetic lasso tool, after a few seconds the screen flickers one time and my line is a selection.
Same with the color picker, when I hold my left mouse button to choose a color it flickers and is "Not responding".
I'm using CS4 and Windows 7

Thank youThere were several issues with mostly the MS InteliPoint drivers, but also some of the Logitec SetPoint drivers, causing just such behavior in Adobe programs' GUI. In those cases, just removing either the InteliPoint, or SetPoint drivers, as has been mentioned, cleared things up. Going back about two years, I'd guess that three releases of the InteliPoint drivers did this horribly. It seemed to have been fixed with later releases, but recently showed back up in both the PrPro and AfterEffects fora.

Photoshop CS6 gets AppHang when using Magnetic Lasso Several Times
My operating system is a Dell Precision T3500 Windows 7 64-bit SP1 6GB RAM.
I opened a 102MB tif file which had been created in Lightroom4 by telling LR to edit in Photoshop. I already had a small .jpg open in one window -- I am using tabbed layouts.
I Used the magnetic lasso about four times to delete sections of the photo and replace them with a Pattern (grey backround). Several of the mask selections were to the border of the photo and I moved the curor for the lasso beyond the border of the photo. Then I used the polygon lasso two or three times to replace additional sections which had been left behind. I went back to the magnetic lasso. When I went outside the boundaries of the photograph this time, CS6 hung. I couldn't switch windows or do anything in Photoshop. Dead. The task manager said the program wasn't responding, and I used the task manager to kill it.You could simply reach the limit of allowed points in a path. You will have to use multiple passes/ segemnts. I don't see why this should be a problem. Selections are selections. The path is merely a temporary representation of the selection border, the actual selection is pixel based, no matter what. Maybe look up a tutorial on how to work with saved selections/ channels? Just saying... Seems to me like you're trying to outsmart the program and doing everything in one go, which arely ever works...

Magnetic Lasso Tool Question/Suggestion

I've been suing the magnetic lasso tool to make a selection of a group of people; there is a lot of going between legs and over heads, etc. But invariably when I get about half way through the selection the magnetic lasson tool acts as if I've completed the selection, i.e. I tap the image and the point of the last tap suddenly is connected with my point of origin. I have done this several times, making sure that I didn't tap too hard or anything like that, but that seems not to be the problem (I'm using CS6/Mac 10.6.8, for what it's worth).
So, my question is: is there a way to erase part of the selection? I know about the add to/subtract from the selection; but that's not getting me back to where I need. For example, the line that cuts through my group, the line going from my end point to point of origin, well, if I can delete that line and continue on from the end point that might resolve this problem.

Finish selection with magnetic lasso?
Mac CS4 question: Once I outline a figure with the magnetic lasso, how do I tell the program that I've finished the outlining and want to select the resulting image? That is, how do I actually create the selection that I can paste into another image?
I cross over the starting point with the pointer. CS4 help says that should work.
If I click once, nothing happens. If I double-click, the magnetic lasso disappears and I have to start over. If I choose "save selection" from the menu, nothing happens.
The magnetic lasso tool-pointer seems to stay in effect even after I've outlined what I want.
If anyone has an answer, I hope you can send it to my e-mail. I don't see a way to request that.

The kind of corruption in Photoshop's Preferences that you have seen are quite rare on maintained Macs. Maintenance - ie. cace cleans, scripts permissions is always a good idea - once every 2 or 3 months. -
I have around 200 images that need to be treated to make the background look better. Currently I can do this by selecting the item with the magnetic lasso tool. I then inverse the selection and apply a Gausian Blur. However it is very time consuming to do this 200 times. Is there any way that selecting the item of clothing can be put into an action so that it does not need to be carried out 200 times.
This is one of the images before and after.The Quick Selection Tool may be a little faster.

can not delete the anchor point of the magnetic lasso with the backspace key (photoshop cc)
I'm having the same problem and after much searching find that a lot of people are having the same issue with little to no communication from Adobe and no solution being offered. Magnetic Lasso is useless without the ability to delete points. Adobe please sort this out.

AndyI suppose an open lasso is a strange concept. :)
I was after something which used the magnetic properties of the lasso ie. it clings to edges, but which was open, ie. the ends are tethered and it forms a path between the two ends. The key thing is the automatic clinging to edges close to where the mouse is traced. Can Illustrator do this? -
I have a photo that's cut in two. I used the magnetic lasso tool to select the bottom half so I could move it upward to "join" the upper half of the photo for repair. I then used the free transform tool to move the selection up to meet the other part of the photo, where I wanted to join them up.
However, only the "moving ants" outline of the bottom part of the photo moved up - not the image itself. I tried hitting enter to make a change, but no dice. I know I'm doing something wrong, but I don't know what. How do I actually move the image once it's selected to "meet" the other half of this torn photo?Dr_Atomic wrote:

Without seeing the picture and the area to me moved it's hard to say but probably the Polygonal Lasso.
Just to test, I created a selection, let go of the mouse and then pressed Ctrl and click-dragged. The area move not just the outline.
If you select the Move tool after making the selection, you don't even need a keystroke.
