Saving .ai file outside of the artboard?

Is there a way to save the whole canvas out to a .pdf and not getting content cut off at the artboards? Or do I have to specifically change the size on each artboard? I have about 400 files that the content exceededs the artboard and I need to print out things outside of the artboard as well. Please help!! I am using Illustrator CS4.

another possible solution would be to record an action that fits the artboard to all art, then saves the file to PDF. CS4 doesn't allow you to record "fit to artboard bounds" command, but I have made a script for that, you can record an action to run the script and save to PDF, then you can batch run the action on your 400 files.
you can find the script here

  • Browser showing all the outside of the artboard stuff

    Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask why the browser shows all the outside-of -the -artboard stuff I cut off in Photoshop? How to get rid of it? I cut off all the unnecesary things in Photoshop but Catalyst is showing that, and when I hit Cmnd Return so does the browser.. Anyone can help? Here's the screenshot:
    Thank you

Did you modify any of the html that embeds the Flash Catalyst swf? That might be source of the bleed.

  • ITunes moving files outside of the "music" directory.

I can't understand why, but whenever I open up iTunes it moves files outside of the "music" directory and into the "iTunes Media" directory.
The files it decides to move are random and it does not matter if I try to play or edit any of them, it happens as soon as iTunes is opened.
Any idea why this occurs and how I can prevent it?

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am asking.
Since iTunes 9 was released I have had my media "reorganized" and consolidated according to the "organize library" option in iTunes. My music library looked like this:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
What has been happening recently when I launch iTunes is that it starts moving my music to this structure:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
iTunes is moving files automatically outside of my "music" folder into the root "iTunes Media" folder even though I have asked it to keep my folder organized / consolidated and have run "organize library" several times.

Having trouble with dragging the size of the artboard window and when I save a document the top of the tab goes off the page?

Thank you for responding. Below is some info.
Please see the clipping on the "d" in Pastel Bond and White Bond and the rounded part of the "R" in 2 &3 Part NCR. We have had this happen on occasion with other files as well. Thanks for the help.

  • Packaging files outside of the classpath in the Air Install Badge

Perhaps I am just missing it, but I notice when you bundle a
Flex app into an Air container, you don't have an option to package
assets that are outside of the src classpath? I see that the
packaging process allows you to navigate to files under the /src
tree but what about files outside of that structure?
Suppose I want to distribute assets outside of the swf and
have then distributed along with the application. Is this native
functionality or will a commercial installer be a necessity?

There is an option in the project settings to add additional
source folders to the project. And if none of the built-in Flex
Builder features do what you need, you can certainly package other
assets using the underlying ADT tool (which Flex Builder uses). The
only thing you can't do is install assets outside the application
directory or run other installation programs -- although you could
copy files elsewhere on the first run of an application.

  • Deploying properties files outside of the web application in WebLogic 8.1

    Hi
I am wondering if it is possible to deploy a web application and place configuration files (properties files, log4j xml files etc...) in a folder somewhere within WebLogic that is on the Server instance classpath. This would allow me to edit the config files and restart the server without having to hack into the web application .war file and then redeploy.
I am really looking for an equivalent of the /applib folder in Oracle 10gAS (each OC4J server instance has an /applib folder which is on the classpath of the server).
Is there an equivalent for a weblogic server instance?? (i.e. not just for the entire weblogic server but for individual sever instances).
              thanks
              Will

WLS 9.2 includes pretty advanced features in this area. Both deployment plans and application libraries could be used. There's also a domain/lib directory where jar files can be placed and are visible throughout the server instance.
Unfortunately 8.1 has none of these features. In 8.1, your choices are to either add these into the $CLASSPATH, or package them in the application.

  • Saving a file back to the server

    Hi All,
Well...I have opened a .pdf file from a server (Tomcat).Typical hyperlink on which I click and the pdf opens.I make changes to it.I have the acrobat writer installed on my machine. And now I want to save these changes (or the file) back to the server from where it opened.
    How will I do it?
I hope some onez there to help me.
    Thanx a lot in advance

You can't do this directly, and for a very good reason - you wouldn't want any- and everybody writing files on your server, would you?
What you can do is to write a servlet that accepts the file as input, and saves it away in the required place. How you write that is a bit beyond a quick answer.
To get the document to the servlet, the quickest and dirtiest way is to use <input type="file" ...> from an HTML file. This will attach the document to the request. AFAIK, this only works in IE, though. Otherwise, you can write an HTTP client that posts the document. Again, this is beyond the scope of this answer.

  • Printing with trim marks AND elements outside of the artboard

hello, i am using Illustrator CS3. lets say i have a 4x6" artboard with my artwork contained in that space. i also have an adkey just outside my artboard. My goal is to be able to print both the trim marks (equal to my artboard size, 4x6) and my adkey. I cannot get the adkey to print by chaging the bleed settings, since i cant go over 1" bleed. i cant make my artboard bigger, since the trim marks wouldn't be 4x6 anymore. And i dont want to have to put trim marks by hand, since it is too time consuming.
    can anyone help?
    thank you.

Yes, pretty much the only solution is to work on a larger artboard and use the crop mark filter. Personally, if I find myself having to work to a net size document, I slap it into Indesign and proof it out from there.

  • When Saving a file finder changes the file name

After updating to Mountain Lion, every time I save a file, I put in the correct file name and after beginning to save the file the file name is changed to a file name that was saved weeks ago.  It does not matter where or with what program I save it, it begins to save under the correct name and sometime before the save is complete finder changes the file name to a file a saved weeks ago.
What library file do I have to delete this time to make this stupid thing stop doing that?!?

It's the level of compression. Lower number, more aggressive compression, more visual artifacts.
Aside from that you should never use jpeg as a working format. The compression is destructive and cumulative, and the file deteriorates every time you resave it.
Use TIFF or PSD, and if you need jpeg save out a copy as a single final step.

  • When saving MHTML files I get the IE icon instead of Mozilla.

When using Mozilla/Firefox, I cannot save new MHTML files with Firefox icon-the icon appears to be the same as "Text icon". Also, I cannot use the "Opens With" to change existing MHTML files from IE icons to the Firefox icon. Some FF icons are correct, such as FF startup icon on desktop and in "Start" button menu. All other HTML files on desktop and in folders still show the original IE icons. By deep Googling, I find suggestions to delete "defaulticon" and other tweaks to the registry. None of these seem to work and make the problem worse.
    Using XP Pro, SP3.

What kind of file extension do those files have?
I would assume that that file extension is associated with IE because Firefox can't handle such files and IE can.
You would need to change the default icon for that file extension in Control Panel > Folder Options > File Types

  • Saving a PDF crops to artwork and not the artboard

I have read a few posts on the web regarding this issue and was wondering if anybody here has a solution.
Since upgrading to CC, when saving our PDFs they now crop to the boundaries of the artwork and not to the artbord like in previous versions. I work in a PDF enviroment and we have a program that relies heavily on XMP data - one of which is the X and Y co-ordinates of the artwork in relation to the top-left corner of the artboard, however now, when artwork goes outside of the artboard or doesn't fill the artboard, the resulting PDF crops to the artwork thus changing the X and Y co-ordinates of where artwork is positioned on the page.
Is this a bug that is likely to be fixed or has a feature changed that I don't know about.

This is in Illustrator CC Version 17. It is fine when you open them back in Illustrator.  I have also noticed that from Illustrator if you do a 'Save As', select PDF, then select one of the PDF presets (I use 'Press Quality) the resulting PDF when opened in Reader displays how I want it, with the artwork as it was positioned on the Illustrator artboard (not cropped). If I then open in Illustrator again, make a change to the artwork, and select 'Save' (not 'Save As') when opened back in Reader the file is cropped again.

  • How can I publish artwork inside the artboard only?

How can I publish artwork inside the artboard only?
As I don't want to show anything outside the artboard when I publish it.
Also, how can I make the published swf file fit to the artboard size? As I don't want to show the white area outside the artboard.
Hope someone could help! Many thanks!

One thing I have noticed is that when you embed the .swf, if you don't designate the widht and height, sometimes you will see some of the extra outside the artboard. For example:
I uploaded my published files to www.website.com/flash and my .swf is at www.website.com/flash/Main.swf. If I just use that url I will see the extra from Main.swf. However, if I create a page where I embed the .swf, like www.website.com/main.html, I no longer see it.

  • Deploying a .war file - outside of Tomcat default webapps?

I would like to deploy a war file outside of the [tomcat]/webapps directory.
How can I get tomact to recognize AND unpack a war file in a location other then the default webapps directory?
    I have tried the following;
    altering server.xml -
added context pointing directly to .war in other directory.
adding context.xml entry to my war -
added context.xml to META-INF of my war file, indicating that the docBase should be in outside directory.
Neither of these created the desired result.
    Any suggestions?

The following is from tomcat docs
    - http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-5.5-doc/config/host.html
appBase : The Application Base directory for this virtual host. This is the pathname of a directory that may contain web applications to be deployed on this virtual host. You may specify an absolute pathname for this directory, or a pathname that is relative to the $CATALINA_BASE directory. Going by that. try making the change as below in your server.xml
    <Host name="localhost" appBase="your_directory"
           unpackWARs="true" autoDeploy="true"
xmlValidation="false" xmlNamespaceAware="false" deployXML="true">I am going by what the doc says.
I havent tried it out myself, so do let us know if that worked.
    cheers,

  • File download from the server

I have this page(in a distributive application) that checks the status of files on the server. These are hyperlinked and I am trying to allow the users to download the files. I can see the files, and the links but can't download a file or "save target as.." option.
I have added an .xml file in the configuration directory of my application server(JBoss). I can download the files on the same computer, but if I can't do that from other computer. I got this .xml file from online search, someone suggested to use this in order to allow for download option.

  • How to recover artwork saved outside the artboard from CS5?

To put it simply, I worked on some logo designs at home using CS6.
The next day at my friends office I opened the file up in CS5.
Now it read the Document as a PDF form (not sure why). I had 3 pages of Artwork that I had to open seperately.
I saved 2 of the Docs as new CS5 docs and cotinued working on my logo development on the original CS6 doc opened in CS5.
I continued to work off the original file outside the artboard parameters without 'saving as'.
I have spent 5 hours working on designs and kept saving the file until home time.
When I then tried to open the same file that had registered the save (time shown) and file size increased I was left with 1 Artboard and no surrounding designs.
I know illustrator very well however this process has stumped me.
I know my work is in there somewhere due to the file size and fonts it keeps asking for that I used outside the artboard.
    Please help.

Thank guys. I know there was only a slim chance but I was hoping for a miracle.
    Cheers
