Saving AIF as AIF in STP3?

Last week I upgraded from STP 1 to STP 3. Lots of changes and I'm not sure that STP 3 works all that well with Snow Leopard. Anyhow, I'm wondering if there's some setting I've missed that allows me to automatically save an .aif file as an .aif file? When I click on save, what used to happen with an .aif file is that it just saved. Now it wants, by default, to save as an .stap file, which then I have to change the .stap to .aif and it will save. A minor extra step, OK, but I'd much prefer the file to save automatically in the format that's it's in, like it used to. Is that possible??
Thanks in advance for any help.

I can see where some of the changes are refinements or, perhaps more properly, refocusing the purpose of particular processes. Enabling or disabling tracks, for example, was new to me and I do find it useful, though it was initially confusing, different as it is from the early STP.
And, to my ear, STP 3 sounds slightly better.
It's also much slower. About 25-30% slower than the earlier version (I may have had 1.5, not sure), both on Snow Leopard.
But, just to take my previous example, you think that after saving a file the program should repeat the immediately previous operation to that file, regardless what the operation was? Save should be save. Period. Repeating an operation takes time and what's so necessary about it? And if it's necessary, then shouldn't the file be saved, again? And then why does the operation re-repeat, ad infinitum? This is improperly designed software that demonstrates many failings, not least the presence of a senior engineer who would check for basic operational flaws.
As I said, Professional software? I think not.

  • Error using aif

I have a completely working system in my laptop and i wanted to install arch on a usb drive.
    For this, i installed aif
    extra/aif 2011.10.09-2 [installed]
        The ArchLinux Installation Framework
I boot my kde, login with y user and open a terminal and run:
    sudo aif -p interactive
the menu appears, but just in the same moment i try to enter the first submenu
    "1  Select source"
I get kicked back to the shell with this error message:
"ERROR: ask_checklist makes only sense if you specify at least 1 thing (tag, item and ON/OFF switch)"
I already performed a search with no luck.... what can be the problem?
    Thanks!

But even though.... its strange, isn't it? Its the very same installation framework used by the live cds when you install arch.... should work.... kind of strange it does not... specially when i use this live usb for using wherever i go,... and if i can use aif directly from my console to leave a sistem installed when i go, it would be wonderful...... is there a way i report this or research it a bit more?...sorry for insisting..... i think its a pretty important part of the system.... god, its the arch installation framework.....
    Thanks!

  • AIF question: USELVM="yes" not set during configuration

Just installed Arch from the new (2010.05) install images on a new laptop.  Everything working brilliantly, but I have one question.  I set up my system to use LVM on top of dm-crypt, and the AIF tool did a splendid job of auto-configuring everything: /etc/fstab, the hooks in order in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf, and the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst were all automatically configured just right.  The only thing that wasn't automatically set was the value for USELVM in /etc/rc.conf.  I set it to "yes" during the installation, and everything has been working great (with the exception of an error message about file locking initialisation on boot, but elsewhere on the forum I've read that that is a harmless message).
But I was curious why this value wasn't set automatically by AIF: does AIF simply not mess with /etc/rc.conf at all, is it impossible or unadvisable to do this?  Alternatively, it is actually unnecessary to set USELVM="yes" if you've got LVM on top of dm-crypt?
I am really just curious, since AIF did such a great job of auto-configuring everything else.  I almost second-guessed myself setting USELVM="yes" manually, but as I say, everything is working as it should.
Thanks for any info on this, and thanks devs for an awesome distro and a great installer (even better than my last install a few years ago!)

In my experience, you are correct.  AIF does not change rc.conf EXCEPT for altering the configuration with network interfaces during installation.  And as you brought up, since the programming is there to parse rc.conf and modify the networking settings in-line with text, why doesn't it set things like LVM automatically in rc.conf?  I believe it is because the code simply isn't there for the LVM creation.  And I think requesting it from Arch is a reasonable request.
As to your question, I would definitely use USELVM="yes" because I have had problems before when I didn't.  I'm not exactly sure where the setting is actually applied, but I know that rc.conf is parsed during boot right after the initial ramdisk and getting that setting in there at the lowest level during boot is best.

  • Shrink my wav?

I think I made a wav file that is too big to import into my dinky website.
It's a 16 bit 44.1 stmp, that I saved as an aif, then saved as a wav - I think...
Is there a simple way to shrink it? Right now it's about 256 megs.
I have compressor, and a flash encoder:
I got it down to 2 megs using flash, but because there was no video, it wouldn't run (I think).
I got it down to 20 megs using compressor and turning it into an aac128kbps.mp4
It was a wild guess. Is there a best practice here? It's just supposed to be a simple audio file to click and listen to some simple narration.
    thanks!

I would use QuickTime Pro to encode the aiff file. It has presets for web, speech, etc.,
Export - Movie to QuickTime Movie - Broadband Low should be a good starting point for narration.
Click the Options button to adjust settings. Make sure Fast Start is enabled so the file plays before downloading.
Here's a tutorial that might help.

  • Reaktor 5 Ensembles and Logic

I've just started using Reaktor 5 but need someone to explain to me how I get an ensemble into the arrange window of Logic Pro 7.
I have used the stand alone set up and recorded the ensemble and saved as an aif audio file and this works no problem when placed in an audio track but I cannot work out how to use it as a plug in. I have set up Reaktor as an audio Inst and everything works fine as far as playback and controls are concered but is it possible to enter this ensemble directly into the arrange window from the plugin. At the moment when I play the ensemble and press record everything is fine but no data is enetered in the arrange window
What is the best way to use an ensemble with Logic

is it possible to enter this ensemble directly into
the arrange window from the plugin.
You can use Reaktor as and audio FX (Reaktor 5 FX), or as a Midi instrument (Reaktor 5). For example: If you have an audio track already recorded in the Logic's arrange window, you can add a Reaktor FX. Inserts>Mono>Audio Units>Native Instruments>Reaktor 5 FX. Now open a new ensemble and add an Effect (e.g., Space Master.ism, Pitch+Flanger.ism, etc...) Be sure to wire the audio in to the inputs of *.ism, and the outs to Audio outs.
For Synths, Grooveboxes or other midi instruments, you'll need to use a Midi instrument in Logic. This sends Reaktor midi data and therefore will sends audio to Logic. Inserts>Stereo>AU Instruments>Native Instruments>Reaktor 5 Create an New Ensemble, then add an *.ism. Now when you record midi data in Logic's arrange window, it will be sent to that Reaktor instrument. If you are using an Ens with more than one Ism, it's better to use a Multi Channel instance of Reaktor.
    At the moment
when I play the ensemble and press record everything
is fine but no data is enetered in the arrange
    window
Are you talking about audio or midi?
    good luck.

  • Apps won't open, or crash after launch

OK so I updated to OS X 10.9.1 and since then, my Adobe Apps won't open, or they crash after launch.
Photoshop CC for instance opens, then immediately crashes with a crash report. On the other hand, Illustrator simply doesn't even open. No crash report.
    I'm on a 2009 Mac Pro 8 Core 2.93Ghz with a non-efi nVidia GeForce 660Ti GPU. It's been working like a charm until 10.9.1.
I also tried logging out then in again with Creative Cloud. First time I did this, Photoshop simply stopped crashing, and simply refused to load like Illustrator. After a reboot, Photoshop is back to crashing.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'm unable to finish my projects currently.

There seems to be a similar problem on Windows. I'm on a
GeForce 4 MX, which does not seem to be supported either (I don't
think it supports GLSL). When I try to launch newIDE, nothing
happens, i.e. I don't get an error message or anything, the program
    just terminates.
I tried to fix the problem by putting a mesa opengl32.dll
(which I found online) into the AIR directory, but all that did was
it made the application loader complain that the mesa opengl32.dll
had no entry point for wglSwapMultipleBuffers(), so I don' t think
it's possible to get newIDE to run on older cards that way.

  • EXS 24 Logical end-of-file reached during read operation Result code = -39

EXS kit Trip Hop Remix will not completely load. Upon trying to load it I get the error, Logical end-of-file reached during read operation Result code = -39. The kit ends up lacking samples. It worked at one time but now it will not load up. To try and fix I extracted two kits with the same name but oddly they are slightly different sizes and have different creation dates, one 2004 the other 2007 hmmm (one goes in Garage band for remix tools the other gets placed in 02 Electronic Drum kits) from the install disks using Pacifist hoping to replace corrupted files. NG. I also reinstalled all the samples from the LP8 install disk, still NG. Anybody have a solution. THanks.

To further clarify, the samples are all located in the folder Garage band/.../.../.../Sampler Files/Treated Percussion Sets/Perc-DnB+Triphop. They are used in the EXS24 Trip Hop Remix kit.exs. The 3 samples that seem to be causing the error are, YT2BGLRHTX02_3ue.aif, YT2BGLRHTX03_3ue.aif, YT2BGLRHTX04_3ue.aif. The kit is useless and my song is screwed up now that the kit will not load. Any ideas for a fix out there ?

  • Export from final cut 4.5 to soundtrack pro

I cannot seem to get my audio to export correctly to soundtrack pro 1.0.1 from final cut 4.5.HD. It is bounced out as a stereo file.
when i export to STP it mixes the audio.
can some one share a work flow for getting audio tracks into STP from FCP 4.5 and keep the tracks seperate?
    TIA - Jeremy

maybe i am doing something wrong. i went to the sequence. i cntrl-click the seq and select export aif(s). i did not choose stereo mix.. it still made only one track of audio and left the other 3 alone. maybe it was a mix of all, but i did not test since i only saw one file in the folder. i am new to this concept. i have only mixed music (not sound for video). i saw in the manual for final cut 4 that there is a section in the sequence settings that you could change the numbers of outputs for the sequence. so i set to 1-2, 3-4 since i have a delta 44 (not the best i know). i did the export the same as before. i now have blah1_2.aif and blah3_4.aif. blah1_2.aif has sound (do not know if it is stereo mix or just the audio 1 and audio 2 of the dv file, but blah3_4.aif has nothing. it is a blank file. i am totally confused.

  • SD2 files with Quicktime Windows XP

I have a SD2 file I need to play. I have tried to play it through Quicktime but I get the error message "Error -39 end-of-file-was-reached"
Does anyone know what the problem is or is there any other program I can use?

I've seen things like this happen a couple times, and for different reasons. One reason was straight up file corruption. I was able to fix this in the Terminal. Find the bad file, then cat it to a new file name.
In the Terminal, the command would look something like this:
    cat badfile.aif > newfile.aif
You can drag the badfile into the Terminal window as an argument. By default, files will be written into your home directory. If you're really feeling brave, you can open the audio file in a text editor like pico (in the Terminal) and see if there's any gunk that Windows appended to the file's start or end. Compare it to an unblemished OS X audio file. BACK UP the files before you try making any sort of text edit like this, because the liklihood of this method actually working is low... it's about as likely as me being able to successfully repair a VCR with a screwdriver and a hammer.
The other thing I have seen was the dreaded resource fork problems. When an OS X drive is mounted by a Windows machine, they will see the resource forks -- they have the identical file names, but they are all preceded by ._ -- eg. ._badfile.aif. If the guy was trying to work with those files and renamed them that would cause problems, but you'd think he'd notice that they were only a few K in size. Try deleting his file extensions from the files and you can hold down opt apple and drag the files onto an app's icon to force an open.
This brings me to another thing that has both corrupted and fixed different files: it seems that different programs have different degrees of success when writing to different formats. If you are able to play the song in iTunes or QuickTime Pro or iMovie or Peak or whatever, try forcing a convert of the file from there. I remember that the first version of Tracktion used to write bum aif files... they'd play fine in QuickTime, but not in Peak, so we had to convert the files in QuickTime.
    Good luck.

  • Not able to activate web server in exe

    Hello,
I have a problem with starting a web server. I have Vi that feeds the address of the directory to publish and after that it makes the server enable. And in the directory there are a few html files and a few jpg files. And the jpg files are attached to the html files. And then there are a few vi that appends other Vi:s front panels to images. And as the program runs the the image files in the server directory are over written (updated). So the point is to access via Web browser to the site where is some hyper links and behind he links are the photos of the few front panels. And my applications automatically updates the images.
Problem is that the server won't go on when I built and run the application. In development environment this works perfect. I tried this on a different PC also but the exe won't connect the server on either of the computers.
    Need help, thanks
There is the web server start file attached.

    Hi,
The instructions points out that some modification must be made to the .ini file. But that instruction page is made with labview 8.6 and I have version 8.2. There are a few differences like:
postScriptLevel2=False   <---- My configuration file misses that part
WebServer.Enabled=True   <----  That one is a bit different
This got me thinking though. Is the configuration file written in the stone? I mean that my application programmatically sets the server directory and then enables the server. This is because the directory changes when the application is installed in to another PC. And I checked that Both the server directory and server activation function work in stand alone application as quote
    Remarks
The following table lists the characteristics of this property.
    Remote access disallowed
    Yes
Available in Run-Time Engine and Real-Time Operating System
    Yes
    Permissions

So do I have to separately and programmatically overwrite the configuration file?

  • XML Forms vs. Sharepoint Forms

    Hello,
How do XML Forms created with Form Builder compare to forms created in Sharepoint?  Is there anything we lose with Form Builder?  Can we enable an approval process?  How about digital signatures?
I'm think of this for HR forms, so a user would fill out the form and submit it.  Then only their supervisor would have access to the filled out form, and the form would be put in a queue for them to approve.  Is this possible?
    Thanks,
    Owen

    Hi,
if you want to compare InfoPath (client, server, SharePoint, workflow) with SAP forms, you should compare InfoPath with Adobe Interactive Forms (AIF).
AIF offers a deep SAP integration (ABAP, Java, Portal), allows online / offline formulars, generates PDF, can be used via eMail, browser, etc.

  • ERPi (ODI) EBS to HFM

I need help, I am able to configure EBS with HFM using ERPi (ODI), I followed all the steps mentioned to configure like creating dataserver, physical and logical connections and configuration is successful. • Comparision matrix of Webdynpro Java and Adobe Interactive form

    Hi Experts,
In our project we have to choose the GUI between Webdynpro Java and Adobe Interactive forms. Can anyone help me out with strong comparision parameter's in order to select the right technology.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi ,
Depends on your project requirement : if you project is simple and want to use  less UI controls  then use Adobe Interactive Forms (AIF).
But In your project needs large number of UI controls and to show huge amount of data then best option is  Web Dynpro Java.
Web Dynpro provides wide varieties of UI controls for designing your web application . Adobe Interactive Forms have limited controls .
Web Dynpro take care of your Client side eventing which is not possible in AIF . AIF Developers needs to know Adobe scripting too.
If your Client data is huge AIF take so much of time to render your content and also this depends on your reader version installed on the end user too . Web Dynpro Java is Client neutral & it won't take much time to render the content.
Use AIF  to show/process Business data in any Web application. ideally it is not suited for complete GUI of your project  .

    Rakesh Kumar
