Saving all your preferences?

I saw an article on this a while back but can't seem to find it anywhere. Isn't there a way to save all your preferences at once? Print presets, dictionary additions, etc.? Seems like it was an article about saving your version of InDesign (your preferences that is) on a USB drive or something.....
Thanks, Phyllis

Copy the user profile.
It used to be a little simpler, you could save just the Application Data\Adobe\Indesign\[version] folder, but since CS3 some stuff is also stored in the Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Indesign\[version] folder. I suppose you could copy just those two if you like, or the parent Adobe folders on each path to get all applications. Pick your poison.

  • Any Way To Put A Saved Watermark You Created On All Your Images At Once?

I have a whole bunch of pictures that I wanted to put a copyright watermark on.  I created the watermark I in Photoshop and saved it.  Now, I am wondering if there is any way I can apply this watermark to all my images I have?  I know how to use the "Move" tool to move the watermark from its file to the image file, but I have hundreds of images, so it is going to take forever if there is not a quicker way.  Anyone know if there is a quicker way?  Thanks.

In the Actions palette, create a new action to record yourself adding the watermark to one of your images. When it's in place, save and close the image, then stop the Action. Now go to File=>Automate=>Batch. Select the action you just created and the folder containing the images you wish the watermark to be applied to. When you confirm, Photoshop will repeat what you did and apply a watermark to all your images in that folder automatically.

  • Saving all Creative Suite Preferences and Settings

In Photoshop I like to always have the setting the allows the wheel on my mouse to scroll through the zoom on screen.
In InDesign, I like for all my measurement to be in Inches
In other CS 5.x programs I have certain preferences. Is there a way to save all preferences from all CS programs and load them whenever I have to re-install. This way I don't have to sit there and reset all my preferences again everytime I restore my computer and reinstall the Suite?
Thanks in advance for your help!

You’re likely to get far more help in each individual forum since that’s where the experts hang out.
This forum is for suite specific issues only and there is no way to save preferences across the entire suite…though I wish there was.

  • ICloud mail settings not saved in System Preferences on Mountain Lion

I note that iCloud mail settings not saved in System Preferences on Mountain Lion even if I tick mail in Icloud then close system preferences then open system preferences and it is untiked again?
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Cheers

Back up all data. Don't continue unless you're sure you can restore from a backup, even if you're unable to log in.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click the following line to select it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C):
    { sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR.. ; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_ ; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_ ; chmod -R -N ~ $_ ; } 2> /dev/null
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not  going to reset a password.
Select your boot volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • I restored from time machine but lost all my preferences

I have a late 2008 Mac Pro 2 x 2.8GHz quad core running Mountain Lion.
I have been using the 500Gig HD as my Startup Volume that came with the computer.  This drive got too full so I am upgrading to a 3TB drive that I partitioned into 1TB for my startup volume and the other 2TB for other stuff.
Using SuperDuper, I made an exact copy (at least I thought so) of my 500Gig startup volume onto the new 1TB partition.  After doing so I swapped out the 500Gig for the 3TB and re-started the computer.  Computer boots fine and all the files are there but here are the PROBLEMS:
-None of my settings and preferences are working.  My desktop, dock and settings are default.
-Under my user, most of my folders said "The folder can’t be opened because you don’t have permission to see its contents. mac pro."  I circumvented this by going to the "get info" and turning on my permissions, but it is still wierd.
-When I go to open my programs (eg Microsoft word) it welcomes me as if it is a new install and I am given a prompt to enter my serial number.
Sooooo, I tried another route, went to my backup drive, (I have another drive that has time machine of the 500 gig startup volume saved to it) and used time machine to "restore" a backup of my 500Gig startup volume onto the new 1TB partition.  After doing so and restarting, guess what.  No changes; all the same problems.
    HELP!!!
    Thanks.

  • I Lose all my preferences every time Photoshop & Illustrator crash

For me, when either Photoshop or Illustrator crashes, all of my preferences basically get trashed and when I re-open Photoshop and Illustrator, I have to go through all of my preferences and redo everything. That includes history states, file handling, etc ... All the things that I personalize. It seems like it's crashing a lot too for no real reason, like just now I was just saving a psd as a jpg and it went kaput.
It may seem like a small problem but it's happening everyday and re-creating my preferences takes time.
    I'm on a 17" MAC OSX with 2G Ram.

    Lisa,
    Photoshop saves its preferences
    only
at the time it shuts down in an orderly fashion.
If it crashes, or if you force quit the application, your preferences won't be saved at all.
Before advising you on the crashing issue, we would need a lot more details about your setup.

  • HT204150 I would to tranfer my contact number from iPhone 5 to macbook, and i have I cloud account which supposed saved all my contact on i Phone 5

    Dear,
On my macbook pro the contact does not appear for all contact, it shown only 3 of my relatives, what about other contacts why does don appear and they have I phone.
the contact already saved on the I cloud program, during any update on the i Phone the contacts is there, and I do not face any problem with the phone.
kindly feed me back to how I add or solving this issue ASAP,
    best regards,

Welcome to the Apple Community Mahar.
    Please try the following…
First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • Tabs: previous versions allowed for saving all tabs in a bookmark folder. The new tab groups do not behave this way. How can I save permanent set of tabs as a group that is available later, like the folder of bookmars was?

tabs: previous versions of firefox allowed for saving all tabs with a group name, so you could open them all again later at your convenience. The new firefox 4.0.1 has a new tab feature, but the tab groups do not seem to persist once you shut down, and are not saved as a folder in your bookmarks. What am I missing? How can I do what I want (save permanent set of tabs as a group that is available later, like the folder of bookmarks was)? Thanks

Right click one of the tabs, the "Bookmark all tabs..." option.
Does it do what you want?

  • I cannot change my default search engine, despite trying all your suggestions. A friend suggested an add on- google default but for some reason Firefox is not

I have recently had the problem of Yahoo search becoming my default search engine. I loathe Yahoo having had many problems with them in the past so refuse to use them. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing...no change. I tried all your suggested fixes and none works. There is now no mention of Yahoo when I go to change search settings, but despite this Yahoo is the default search engine. This is intolerable for me and I am seriously on the verge of removing firefox for good. Stop me!!! I am having to send this in a different search engine as in Mozilla firefox this account is inactive...work that one out! It means there is no point giving you troubleshooting info...

You may have ad / mar-ware changing your settings.
First, check the programs that are on your computer
'''Windows:''' Start > Control Panel > Uninstall Programs.
    '''Mac:''' Open the "Applications" folder.
    '''Linux:''' Check your user manual.
Go thru the list. If you find something that you don't
know what it is, use a web search.

This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and

  • My Iphone 4s automatically synced when I started ITunes. When it did this it saved all of my pictures on my computer to my phone. How do I reverse this and take the pictures back off of my iPhone?

My Iphone 4s automatically synced when I started ITunes. When it did this it saved all of my pictures on my computer to my phone. How do I reverse this and take the pictures back off of my iPhone?

Yeah, my iPhone 4S sometimes manages to connect to wifi for about 10 minutes now. I think there is a problem related with the antenna because when the phone heats up, the WIFI stops working. I had a similar experience with my older iPhone 4S which I bought from the U.S.A. (unlocked version) but after a couple of days, WIFI icon grayed out and I wasn't able to switch it on and off. Now the phone I'm using was bought in Turkey from a local carrier, (it's not locked I suppose) I'm planning on upgrading to an iPhone 6 and I will try to get my 4S repaired. I hope it is something related with software rather than hardware. Because a friend of mine sent his phone to the local Apple store to be fixed, they sent the phone back claiming that they had repaired it. But in about 2 days, the phone shut itself down and never turned off back again lol. I don't want to experience the same thing. But anyway, thanks for your answer. At least now I know that I'm not the only one that has this problem .

  • DIAdem not saving all samples from TDMS file

    Hello to all,
I have several large TDMS files (1.8Gb each) containing approx. 120 million sampels. When I try to open these fiels in Diadem it previews the correct amount of samples (120 Million), but when I try to save tha data in Matlab format it saves me only half the samples, 60 Million. Also, I have a Matlab script that opens the TDMS files and does exactly the same thing, it is not saving all samples.
Can you please advise me on this issue? Is there a way to automatically fragment large TDMS files into smaller ones?
    Best regards,
    Ion

    Hello Jean Baptiste,
It seems your TDMS file is fine since you have the correct number of data in DIAdem.
It may comes from the conversion to the MatLab format. Maybe MatLab can't accept more than 60 millions data. You should ask that to the MatLab expert on their forum.
However, if you want to fragment your TDMS file, you have to do it manually in DIAdem, when you load the file into the Data Portal, or you can automate the function by using VBScript. (Last panel in DIAdem)
An other solution would be to fragment your TDMS file directly where you write it. (In LabVIEW maybe?)
