Saving as Disc Image hangs/freezes and must force quit to exit
Hi,
I've always been able to Save as Disc Image in order to make multiple copies. Now, it runs fine all the way until it gets to "Burn - Current Operation: Writing" where it freezes indefinitely. The beachball turns so I eventually have to force-quit.
I have tried going to the .plist file as suggested in this forum, restarting my computer, but it doesn't work. The film is 25 minutes long, so I've also tried both Best Quality and Best Performance, with encoding checked and without encoding checked.
I have also completely re-created the project from scratch after removing the .plist file, but it still hangs each time after "Processing Movies" is finished and right when "Burn" begins.
This does not happen when I burn the iDVD project directly to an inserted disc. Only when saving as disc image.
This never happened before... any suggestions out there?
Thank you,
Lisette
FYI, After you asked me how much free space my hard drive had, I freed up some space and had about 38 gb left and tried to burn disc as image again. This time it worked!
So I think you were on to something there, and that must have been the problem - not enough space on my hard drive.
Thank you!!
-Lisette

Will not upgrade mail database....freezes and must force quit
downloaded lion and mail requires upgrade mail database. Freezes and does not upgrade and must force quit. Try again and same thing happens.
I can get mail from icloud but not thru mail icon on dock. Help!I think it's safe to say that FCPX wasn't tested throroughly for use on anything.
with that out of the way, there are many variables as to what might cause your problems, but I don't think it's the mac mini as long as it meets the specified minimum requirements (especially the graphics card).
You might try creating a camera archive first and then importing from that.
The other issue might be the file format itself; you might need to use Clipwrap first. Maybe someone who has the same camera can chime in. -
I am using FCP X on both a MacMini (10.7 with 4 Gig memory) and an iMac (10.6 with 4 gig memory). The files are ACVHD files imported from a Canon G10 camcorder. FCP is constantly freezing and requiring a forced quit. Could it be that FCP X was not tested thoroughly for use on a Mac Mini?

One thing to try/check - in System Preferences, General. Check the box "Close windows..."

Using Mavericks' Spelling and Grammar in a Pages document causes Pages to freeze, Must Force Quit. How can I fix this problem?
Mavericlks Spelling and Grammar works in Pages when used manually. And it works automatically in Text and email.Another autocorrect bug:
I type a lot of lyrics, which tend to cotain words like ’cause and ’em instead of because and them.
I've set up autocorrect instances to change a plain apostrophe with an ending, single curly quote for these words, but they are invariably changed to a beginning, single curly quote mark by Pages. The only way I can get the correct curly quote is to type over the wrong quote manually and hope that I don't have to edit the rest of the word again, as this would cause autocorrect to kick in again and change the quote to the wrong, beginning curly mark again.
Does anyone know how to get around this tedious problem? -
ITunes freezes, I must force quit
I updated this week to the latest ITunes version.
Today I tried to open the SW and it freezes on the Itunes store page although my connection to Internet is on through Airport, I cannot change to the Library or anything else. It also seems to have lost the Airport connection options at the bottom right.
I must do a forced quit, but I cannot solve it out.
What happened? Many ppl have experienced problems sync/adding contacts/calendar entries to their ipod... me included - I never solved the problem but I found a work around, I downloaded Outpod (http://www.tucows.com/preview/396266) and all my troubles were over. It's a little utility which imports your contact/cal entries to your ipod... works really well although I know you should be able to do it directly through itunes.

After Lion install, tried to change wallpaper in "system preferences"->"desktop & screensaver" appeared but immediatly freeze, so force quit.
Then System preference pane as it immediatly freezes if I try to open it. Have to "force quit" each time.
Found many people have the exact issue and highly likely it's the bug of lion.
Anybody found a solution? Thx.It has to do with a problem accessing the images on the home>images folder. To solve it, just move its content (iphoto library included) to another place. Then, restart System Preferences. Moving your iPhoto library to another location seems to fix the problem. I am sure Apple will issue an update to correct this problem. But, for now this seems to work for me.

Imac freezing and cannot force quit
Imac keeps freezing upon startup and I cannot force quit anything. It just sits and wheel of death. Is this a hardware failure?
How large is your HD & how much space do you have left?
Care to share which OS you are using?

Things Freezing and not Force Quitting
Lately, some of my applications are freezing up. One is Final Cut Pro, but my MS Word also has in the last few days. When I force quit, the application closes, but if you look on the dock, it still has a white dot next to it like it is open so in order to restart I have to shut down/restart the computer.
Also, I thought I would use Disk Utility to see if there were permission problems but when I try to verify permissions it takes forever and then it says it takes 15 minutes but an hour later it is still going with no sign of progress -- it appears to have frozen but the computer doesn't say that "application is not responding."
Please help!! Am on deadline!!!2. I don't have disk warrior but I assume I just buy the general package online? Then once I have it on my computer I assume its obvious as to how to run it from my external drive?
First run the Disk Repair I linked to in my last post. Tell us what errors it reports. Permission Errors are relatively unimportant right now.
Then if you need to, Just buy the latest version they make..which is DiskWarrior 4.1.
If Disk Utility can't repair your drives directory, this is the way to go (It would help us to report the errors DU says though!).
DiskWarrior can be run by booting up on it's disk and repairing from it. Beware, it takes a long time to bootup....hold the c key till it comes up.
It runs faster if you install it on one drive and use it on another that has OSX on it.Don't worry, it's easy to run.
At any rate, anyone who wants a dependable Mac should own a copy of DiskWarrior!

LOTS of spinning wheels in Mountain Lion--multiple applications, ALL the time
Sep 6, 2012 1:55 AM (in response to teacher24_70)
Having the exact same issue. Also, on right click, many apps freeze/beachball and must force close. Additionally, uTorrent and Transmission are not operating correctly-uTorrent constantly beachballing and unresponsive. Right-click freezes with everything from Word to iMovie. Takes way too much time to do anything, and lots of cursor freezing, here is a sys log excerpt:

That killed the hard drive, so I got a new hard drive and had the Apple Store install Lion on it, then used Migration Assistant to bring files over. Since then I've upgraded to Mountain Lion and have been experiencing lots of beach balls, freezes, etc. They're so bad that I've had to forcibly shut down 3 times, and each time can't restart. Each time I've erased and done a clean install of Mountain Lion from a USB, then used migration assistant and time machine to bring files back. Just did this last night and am still getting tons of beach balls and freezes. Help please! Here's what Etresoft says.

Every time firefox is launched, the spinning beach ball appears, sometimes immediately, sometimes within a minute or two, every time. Must force quit. I have re-installed Firefox and also have refreshed with no change. Unless this is fixed, Firefox is unusable. I am running OSX 10.9.5 on a 17" MacBook Pro.
I cannot access any information through Firefox, because t always hangs.Could you test in Firefox's Safe Mode? That's a standard diagnostic tool to deactivate extensions and some advanced features of Firefox. More info: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]].
''If Firefox is not running:'' Hold down the option key when starting Firefox.
''If Firefox is running:'' You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
* Help menu > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
and OK the restart.
''Both scenarios:'' A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (''not'' Refresh).
Any less crashy? -
I have a MacBook Pro running mavericks. Sometimes the screen glitches out, gray lines appear on it then my computer freezes and must be restarted sometimes it will beep 3 times when restarting and other times it won't. Is this a virus, software issue, water damage, etc? An error message usually appears after being restarted. It does it all the time please help.
No Virus. You have a Hardware Problem. 3 Beeps means a RAM problem. You could try Reseating the RAM is its sockets.
But that wouldn't necessarily cause the screen to Glitch Out, as you say. -
ok, i am not terribly familiar with the program premiere elements 12 as of yet, i am having some difficulty at times, current issues...when in play mode, the timeline marker? hiccups backwards then forward as it plays, some of my image clips freeze and don't play while the marker keeps going, this also happens when on full screen mode...what do i need to do to correct this problem...currently i am working this on my mackbook 2009. thankyou for your reply.

Upgraded from 10.5.8 all the way to 10.6.8 via combo update.
The only app that has been adversely affected is Logic 9.1.4 in both 32-bit and 64-bit modes.
It's really only two items regarding closing and quitting.
Frankly, it seems only the shortcuts and functions under the "File" menu are causing it to either crash or have no effect at all.
All other key commands and menu functions work as expected. AND this is the only app where it happens.
In summary:
cmd+W will not close a window and neither will clicking the X button at the top left of the window. cmd+Q will not quit the app. I must force quit.
cmd+N will make a new project and use the other shortcuts it seems.
I've removed all audio units and any other plugins.
Details:
At first, it would launch and pause for a few seconds. The screen would softly flash white and the app would quit.
I then tried to repair permissions, and attempt the methods discussed here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2375
Logic would launch and function -- except that I couldn't close a project and required a force quit to exit the app.
So I removed the app and prefs again and went into var/db/receipts and removed the Logic associated items (.bom and .plist) which forced a complete re-install but it was to no avail.
Now, as before, it crashes with the soft white screen blink before I can do anything.
I would like to avoid a complete blow-away since Logic appears to be the only app on my system causing any problems in 10.6.8.
Is this a symptom any of you are familiar with?No solution but there are at least two others reporting problems after the last OS update...
https://discussions.apple.com/message/15484085#15484085
Hopefully someone will post a solution.
