Saving as SVG issues...

Hello fellow AI world. I design templates in Illustrator CS3 that I then upload to our design online website. The format must be SVG so I save as SVG before I do any uploading. This has been an ongoing trend for over a year with no major issues. Now I have ONE MAJOR ISSUE. My computer got a nasty virus and died. I had to re-install my programs on my new system, including the Adobe Suite (inluding Illustrator CS3). Everything seemed to be working just how it did. The first time I saved my file as an SVG, I tried to upload it to my website and got an error. Note: when searching my computer for said SVG file, the thumbnail next to it looks like the symbol for a corrupted file, as opposed to the usual IE icon an SVG usually has. The twist is that if I upload the very same SVG file from another computer (also running AI CS3) the template uploads beautifully with no error (and also has the correct SVG icon next to the file). What the ???? I have made sure all the SVG settings are the same. The two versions of AI CS3, however, are slightly different. Mine is a 13.0.0 and the other is 13.0.1 - does anyone know if this would make a difference? Or what other issues could be causing this?

Thanks for the info. I don't use an FTP client to upload these files. I log into the admin side of the website so I upload directly to it. I aplogize as I am not the programmer (obviously). I was using AI 13.0.0 for the past year with no issues but I took your advice and applied the update. After doing this, I rebuilt another template and saved it as an SVG. This is what my SVG icons are STILL looking like:
Needless to say, I got the same error. When I used the other AI running computer to upload the same file, it worked fine. Grrr....

Saving as SVG (w/out AI editability) changes artboard size ...why? ai saves the artboard dimensions as the frame, unless it decides to expand the frame to accommodate extraneous material. what is weird and disappointing is that ai does not read these frame values back in to recreate the artboard; you have to use preserve ai capability which attaches huge code. I have the same problem. When I save as AI and reopen it the graphics are crisp and align to the pixel grid. When I save as SVG and reopen it the graphics are no longer crisp and no longer align to the pixel grid. It looks like the artboard shifts .5 pixels right and down. That's just odd.

This really concerned me because I am designing SVG's for the web - so they would look crisp on the pixel grid. I tested the SVG in html and it looked crisp on 72dpi and 144dpi displays. So the problem is only how Illustrator imports the SVG, which is very weird. Any thoughts why this happens?
Also, i'm using Illustrator CS6.

Saving an SVG with Illustrator CC Not Working

I am attempting to save an SVG with the new version of Illustrator (Creative Cloud) and it's not working. It seems the code that's output is quite different than that of the old version.
Just to give you a bit of a background on my project, I'm adding a new icon to an existing AI sprite file.
I hacked a solution to the problem by pasting the new bit of code for the new icon from the creative cloud-generated svg into the old CS6 file, and added fill color code to three different places in the new icon code to set the icon color - it was showing up as black and should have been white (it is white in the AI file).
I tried saving the SVG many different ways to no avail - how I can properly save the svg file directly from Illustrator CC? Why isn't it working the same way it did in the previous version?
Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Another thing to note - I was advised previously to check the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checkbox, but that did not work for me. I have tried a number of different SVG settings and nothing seems to work.

Saving as jpeg issue

I have Elements 8
Until recently it worked fine but within the past month, whenever I edit a photo like enhancing or cropping and save it as a .jpeg it is saved as .file
I am not doing anything any different then in the past.
Your suggestions to try and solve this issue will be greatly appreciated.

Art board dimension changes on saving a SVG/SVGZ

When I save an SVG, AI seems to move the art board dimensions - I have tried various things mentioned in other forums:
Object -> Artboard -> Fit to Artboard bounds
and on save using the artboard but nothing changes, on save my art board is cropped around my image - on re-open my image is now at the bottom of an oversized artboard!

Hello Chandra,
There are two separate issues in your post.
1. Format of the header line ( yellow color).
2. Excel sheet is in a different format.
1. Looks to be more like an excel integration issue. Does this happen to all new dimensions being created? Can you try creating a dimension of type U in the AppShell and check the behaviour?
2. This is a very common message that occurs when you have other non BPC excel workbooks open. This is more of an irritant rather than an problem. You should not be seeing this error, if all other excel workbooks are closed.

Help: artboard resizes when saving to svg in illustrator cc

I am on a pc (windows 8) using illustrator cc and trying to save from an .ai file to an .svg file. I've also taken a previously saved svg and manually fixed the artboard, then saved. Still resizes the artboard. I've done this multiple times with sucess, but after updating the software last week, the artboard is expanding when I save. I thought I must have changed a setting, but don't think so. I've read lots of posts and tried all kinds of settings but here doesn't seem to be a solution out there. Wish I could go back to the older version!

I have an artboard approx: 612px by 390px. I save file as svg (w response off) and no artboards chosen (or with 1 artboard chosen). I close the file and then I open it again. The artboard is now letter size and the artwork is the same.
But now what is happening is the artboard remains the same size but the artwork is offset below (negative y) and looks like a second artboard, but it isn't. I can correct this by going to objects> artboards> fit to selected art, but it still won't save (hold the correction). I have hundreds of files to save, so fixing manually even if I could, is not an option.
Thinking these 2 problems are related?

Photoshop Elements 7 saving large files issue

I use Photoshop Elements 7, I recently bought a new camera (24 megapixels). PSE7 is not happy, I am having lots of issues saving my work. Is anyone else having these issues?

No, you have seriously misunderstood what I said. PSE will not run as a 64 bit application under Windows. Even though you have a 64 bit version of Windows, PSE will NOT run as a 64 bit application under Windows. It will run as a 32 bit application under Windows 64bit, giving it a maximum of approx 3 GB of memory to work with. I don't know if that will make your problems go away or not. Please download the 30-day free trial of PSE 12 and see if your problems go away or not before you make a purchase.
From the system requirements
all other applications run native on 32-bit operating systems and in 32-bit compatibility mode on 64-bit operating systems

Saving an SVG with opacity

I'm surprised I can't seem to find more people asking about this, maybe I've missed it:
Is there no way to export semi-transparent shapes as SVG without rasterizing them in Illustrator? The SVG format includes both opacity, fill-opacity and stroke-opacity attributes, but a simple vector shape set to, say, 50% opacity always gives me a "Transparent artwork is rasterized" message when trying to save as SVG. This basically exports the shape as a base64 bitmap within the SVG file, rather than simply giving it opacity="0.5".
Am I missing something? Anyone have a clever workaround for it? It seems bizarre that such a basic attribute can't be exported directly.

Ah, I appear to have worked it out – decided to have another go at it since clearly it was something at my end. It doesn't rasterize transparent shapes if I save as SVG 1.1 rather than 1.2 Tiny. I thought I had already tried 1.1, but I must have clicked the wrong option by accident.
Still, according to this 1.2 Tiny should also support opacity:
Rendering Model – SVG Tiny 1.2
I guess it was only ever a W3C recommendation, but still seems weird not to support opacity. But for most of my purposes it doesn't matter if I save as 1.1 so at least it's solved the issue for now.

When a certain user saves a file in Excel 2010, she gets a message: "The file <name of file> may have been changed by another user since you last saved it." She can choose to save as another file or overwrite with her changes.
This just started happening a week or so ago. She was concerned that someone else was accessing her files, but we did several tests that opened, made a change and saved in a matter of seconds, and she still gets the message. It happens on
most files, but not all – both network and local.
We already tried the QFE_Saskatchewan registry fix. I also checked the file server for Services for Macintosh.

You may be confused by the error in Excel saying “another user”. Actually Excel cannot tell who (the real human) is editing the file. Based on my research the No.1 possibility of the error is KB2626998.

For Excel 2010, follow these steps:
a. Click Start , click Run , type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK .
b. Locate and then select the following registry subkey: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Excel\Options
c. On the Edit menu, point to New , and then click Dword Value .
d. Type NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then press Enter.
e. Right-click NetworkAvailableTimeInSeconds , and then click Modify .
f. In the Value data box, click Decimal , type a number value, and then click OK .
Note This registry subkey sets the time, in seconds, that Excel waits for the network to resume. For example, if you type 15 for the number value, Excel waits 15 seconds for the network to resume. You might have to do some tests in your own environment to
determine an appropriate value. You may have to try multiple numbers.
g. Locate and then select the following registry subkey.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\office\14.0\common\Internet
h. Repeat step 2C through step 2F again. Reuse the same value that you used previously.
i. Exit Registry Editor.

Blackberry Z10 saving and uploading issue

I got my blackberry a week ago, and I haven't been able to save files from the browser. When I click save, it doesn't do anything. I can't upload files to facebook or bbm straight from in the app either, I have to share them. I can only save images straight from the facebook app, and if I try to save while in the browser, nothing happens. This also happens when I'm trying to save other files such as applications.
Any help would be appreciated

If its a genuine Blackberry battery and charger, get a replacement, if its a generic then get your money back.

Saving and exporting issue, in AI trial. Error messages. PS is fine.

I just installed the trial version of AI and PS today.
Illustrator: I can open files and work on them just fine. I cannot export or save. I receive, "The file could not be written due to an error." when exporting, and, "An uknown error has occurred." when I try to save.
PS exports and saves just fine.
PC specs are well w/in recommendations.
Please help. I plan to purchase the SW next week, but not if I can't get it to work!

You may try the following (you may have tried/done some of them already) and see whether it helps (the following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file; 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences):
1) Close down Illy and open again;
2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
4) Move the folder with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy);
Even more seriously, you may:
6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool, and reinstall.

Saved PDF file issue...

Once I create a PDF and save it to a file, I can no longer delete it by right clicking on it. Keep getting an error message saying file is open in another program. Have Adobe closed and still get the same thing. Am using x pro on a Win 8 operating system. Any ideas?

Toggling back and forth between the two views does seem to work, as long as you go slow. Hopefully Adobe can work out a patch in the future to eliminate this issue with Win 8.1.

Saving in Indesign issues.

Dear Adobe Support: We are having an issue with Adobe InDesign CS6. The product has been fully updated to the latest version with all updates installed. TECHNICAL DETAILS: Mac OS X 10.9.1 MacPro Here is the issue we are having: When you select FILE > SAVE AS the "Shared" option is missing from the "Save As" dialog box. Sometimes it doesn't. I have confirmed that on other Mac OS X 10.9.1. instances running the same InDesign version this issue does not appear. First, this is a user-to-user forum, not tech support, but we usually do a better job than they do, so welcome.
Second, was the 10.9.1 install an upgrade or clean install? OS upgrades are always a gamble.
Normally we advise uninstalling and reinstalling ID (and run the cleaner tool in between [CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3]) after an OS upgrade when strange stuff happens, but it sounds like you've already at least reinstalled. It won't hurt to trash the prefs, too (did you elect to repalce them during the uninstall?), though I really think this is an OS issue, not ID. See Replace Your Preferences
It would also be diagnostic to create a new user on the machine and try from that account. Success may not be conclusive, given you say it's intermittent, but failure would point to a problem at either the OS or application level, perhaps a conflict with some other software.

Saving/naming forms issue

Does anyone know what I can do about this? My client, a medical practice, is trying to save forms in a rather interesting way. They have charts that are divided up into different sections or tabs such as Progress Notes, Patient Info and more. These charts have been scanned, separated by tab and placed onto a shared network drive for all the employees within this practice to view.
This practice has now gotten into creating new forms using Acrobat, which obviously eliminates the need to create more paper. The problem now is that each employees is saving these forms differently, in different locations as well, and it's a huge mess.
The file name by which they'd like these chart sections to be saved follows this format:
Last Name_First Name_Date of Birth_Section of Chart_Date of Service_Initials of Person Who Created the Form
So, if the patient's name was Jeff Hansen, their date of birth was 7-30-1982, the section was Progress Notes, the date of service was 12-12-1997 and the initials were HM, the file name would look like this:
HANSEN_JEFF_07-30-1982_PN_12-12-1997_HM

What they would like is, after someone's done with a form and they click Save As, they'd like something like this to pop up:
LAST NAME:
FIRST NAME:
DOB:
TAB:
DOS:
INITIALS:
They would then be able to fill out these fields with the appropriate info, with the exception of TAB and INITIALS, which would be drop-down lists.
After these have been filled out and the file name has been created, they now want the form to be saved in a specific folder-the same folder every time. Right now, there's files all over the place on their drive and it's a mess.
Does ANYONE have ANY idea how the heck we can do this? Seriously? Any idea would be ideal! I don't know of how we can create a Save function like this using Acrobat or LiveCycle Designer. Please help!

You will need to create a special trusted function using Acrobat JavaScript and place the code in one of Acrobat's application level JavaScript folders to perform the "saveAs" method. You will then be able to call the trusted function from LiveCycle Designer. Depending upon how you write your specific function you could pass the file name or have the function query for the name. You will also will need to write some code to use the Acrobat JavaScript "Dialog" object for the pop-up and gathering the necessary data and generating the necessary file name. You might want to look at, http://www.windjack.com/products/acrodialogs.html, WindJack Solutions' AcroDialogs product to quickly and easily create the dialog pop-up.
Neither of these scripts is a simple programing task.

The whole saving message attachments issue has me ready to bail to Android!

Why has this issue not been fixed yet? I am sick of my phone constantly filling up because someone thought it would be a great idea to save attachments I send as a seperate file that I apparently can not get rid of short of restoring ti factory new everytime it gets full. I have tried Phoneclean, deleting them al then backing up and every other thing I can find. If Apple wants to have it as a feature then how hard would it be to put a selection in the settings to turn it off.

Yea, that's about the most useless information possible seeing as how they never really delete and jsut come back. Don't think read the manual is a bit useful when even Apples support don't know how to do it aside from restore to factory default.
