Saving as Version 8 from Illustrator CS3/CS4..

Hi,
I am facing a problem and that is:
I have created a file with multiple indipendent paths in CS3/CS4 and saving it in Version 8, now when I open the file again in CS3 all the paths that I have renamed before loose there name.
eg: 1 turns back to <path>
Kindly suggest what to do.

Deepti Nanda,
I am afraid it is necessary to rename in 8. There is almost an abyss between CS3/CS4 and 8, and you are lucky you have not had to deal with the text engine issue (I hope).

  • Copying objects from Illustrator CS3 to FreeHand 11.0.2

Working on a Mac in OSX 10.4.11, I was able to select and copy objects in an open Illustrator CS2 file and paste them into an open FreeHand 11.0.2 file, where they would be fully editable. After migrating to OSX 10.6.2 and upgrading to CS3, this no longer works - the objects selected and copied from Illustrator either do not appear (only corner indicators are visible) or a pale version appears as an uneditable low-rez image with funny colors....
Because there are so many missing features in Illustrator, it's important for me to be able to work back and forth between the two apps.  Has anyone been able to achieve this (formerly) simple interactivity?

I got the following post from Danny Haas:
If you go to Edit>Special>Paste Special and then select AI/EPS from the list
it should paste just fine. It works well for me.
Worked for me too, although text was not imported as editable text.  To do
that had to special paste the text separately as unformatted text, and then
    reformat in FH.

I skipped AICS3, but now use AICS4 for some tasks.
The only solution I've found is to save the AI CS4 file as AI 8, open that
in FHMX and copy from there.

  • I am unable to print from Illustrator CS3 since downloading os x Mavericks

Since downlaoding OS X Mavericks, I am unable to print from Illustrator CS3. Is there a fix for this?

I fixed it! After searching I found a workaround:
The following workaround can be applied to get these older versions of Illustrator and InDesign to print on this newer operating system. Remove the following files and back them up:
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/en.lproj
    [Hard Drive]/Library/Printers/PPDs/contents/Resources/It.lproj

  • Printer dialogue box hangs when printing from Illustrator cs3

OK... I'm not sure if this is Illustrator related or mac related, but it only happens from Illustrator. In our office we have an iMac (white, flat) running Tiger (OSX 10.4.11). Whenever we try to print from Illustrator CS3 the preint goes through to the printer immediately and prints, but the actual Illustrator spooling bar/printer dialogue box remains. The only way is to wait for about half an hour for the bar to finish or force quit the application and restart (even though it does not show as "not responding" in the Force Quit window.
Now I've tried reinstalling Illustrator. I've run disk warrior. Tried the fsck command on startup. our technical outsources tell us it might be a memory problem, but I'm not tsure as this only happens in Illustrator and no other programs.... any ideas?

I can vouch for the dock hiding solution solving the problem. It worked on three Intel Macs we were having problems with. Here are some links to articles about it:

  • How to Create PDF from Illustrator CS3 by using applescript?

    Hi Guys,
Do some one knows how to create PDF from Illustrator CS3 by using apple script. If know, please give me the scripting.
    HARI

Have you tried File>Scripts>SaveDocsAsPDF? There should be a folder of sample scripts installed in your AICS3 folder and a folder of documentation which contains an Illustrator AppleScript Reference which has examples.

  • White Lines on Live Traced Artwork in PDF from Illustrator CS3

Hi,<br /><br />I've recently been using the Live Trace feature in Adobe Illustrator CS3 on my artwork so that my artwork becomes a vector image instead of a raster (I'm told it's better for Web because it works better with varying resolutions - doesn't become pixelated).  For my live trace, I use a custom preset:<br /><br />ADJUSTMENTS-<br />Mode: Color<br />Threshold: 128 (grayed out)<br />Palette: Automatic<br />Max Colors: 256<br />Output to Swatches: OFF<br />Blur: 0 px<br />Resample: 600 px<br />Fills: ON <grayed out><br />Strokes: OFF (grayed out)<br /><br />TRACE SETTINGS-<br />Max Stroke Weight: 10 px (grayed out)<br />Min Stroke Length: 20 px (grayed out)<br />Path Fitting: 1 px<br />Minimum Area: 1 px<br />Corner Angle: 1<br />Ignore White: OFF<br /><br />VIEW-<br />Raster: No Image<br />Vector Tracing Result<br /><br />The preview info, located under the dialogue bubble with the i states:<br />Paths: 4894<br />Anchors: (no number)<br />Colors: 148<br />Areas: 4822<br />Image PPI: 200<br /><br />I don't know if that helps anyone, but that's just the preset I've used to get a sharper, almost fully preserved vector version of my raster image.<br /><br />When I want to convert it to a PDF file using the File > Save As... > Save as type: PDF with the following preset:<br /><br />Adobe PDF Preset: Illustrator Default<br />Standard: None<br />Compatibility: Acrobat 8 (PDF 1.7)<br /><br />Then, my image as viewed in the Adobe Acrobat 8 Professional has several white lines, outlining areas of color.  You can see it here: <br /><br />http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y218/Mont-ImmortalSquirrel/Ai-PDF_whitelines.jpg<br /><br />The image connected to this link was captured with PrntScrn and copied into Photoshop, cropped, and saved as a jpeg.  The issue is perfectly preserved, as you can see the white lines outlining areas of color.  This problem is persistent despite the zoom level in Acrobat 8.  <br /><br />Just another little bit of information, the problem is most noticeable in the red area and not the cream/white and yellow areas.  When I was working on the original raster image in Photoshop CS3, the cream/white area was done with the Ellipse Tool, using Bevel and Emboss in the Blending Options.  The same goes for the yellow area, which was done with the Line Tool.  The red area was done manually, with the Brush Tool, Smudge, Blur, Burn, etc.<br /><br />I'm telling you guys just about everything I've done leading up to this issue.  But, if there's something you need to know more, I'll try to figure out what I could've possibly done wrong to get this result.

I too get this result when using LiveTrace. My simple solution to this problem was to just place a solid color shape behind that section of the trace where it occurs that is the same color as the trace. Simple...but it worked.

  • Illustrator CS3 & CS4 crash on launch

Have used CS4 without problems on OSX 4.11 for 9 months. After doing an Adobe Update after Xmas, Illustrator started crashing on launch. Tried Illustrator CS3 and it crashed too. InDesign crashes when I try to export or package or place anything from Illustrator. Bridge has crashed a few times. Photoshop stable but gives "quit unexpectedly" message when I close it. Have uninstalled entire Design Suite CS4 & CS3. Reinstalled CS3. Trashed Acrobat Reader 9 and all Adobe prefs and settings that I could find. When I trashed the newest Illustrator CS3 settings folder from the User Library it made Illustrator take less time to crash on launch. I am missing my deadlines. What to do?

    What to do?
Handle these things correctly. Sorry to say so, but you made your own mess.
    - Uninstall everything Adobe using the proper uninstallers as far as possible
    - Run the CS3 and CS4 Clean Scripts from the support pages
    - Delete the caps.db in Library:Application Support:Adobe:caps
    - reinstall - first CS3 + updates, then all CS4+updates

  • Modal dialog bug in Illustrator CS3, CS4 (Mac)

Using the latest point version of Illustrator CS3 and a newly installed copy of Illustrator CS4, I have noticed a consistent bug on at least two different Macs (10.5.5). This bug pops up when you have a text item with optical kerning, and you try to manually adjust the kerning between characters. The value in the kerning field of the Character Panel has parenthesis around the numbers to show that it is a calculated value. If you change the numbers, but accidentally leave the parentheses, a modal dialog pops up saying, "Invalid numeric value." It is not possible to dismiss this dialog, and it is necessary to force quit the program.
When the text is Auto-kerned, and one makes the same mistake, the parentheses are automatically removed for you.
Using Illustrator CS3 in Windows, the "Invalid numeric value" dialog pops up under the above scenario; however, one is able to dismiss this dialog and resume working.

I wasn't quite sure where to submit bug reports, which is why I posted here. However, I finally did find the bug report form on the Feedback tab of Adobe's Contact page. So I just reported this bug.

  • Creating Hi Res PDF files from Illustrator CS3 with overprints

I am trying to create a hi res PDF of an Illustrator CS3 file which has overprints included. I am creating the PDF through Acrobat 9. Once created the visual on screen does not maintain the overprint. I know that I can view the overprint in Acrobat 9 by going to Advanced-print production-output preview. Is there any way of saving this preview so it automatically activates when the PDF is opened?
I have opened the PDF in Acrobat 7 and this has a tick option next to overprint preview which stays activated. Does 9 have this anywhere?

There is a setting for overprint displays in the preferences of Acrobat 9. It's in the Page Display section, under "Page Content and Information". The options are: 1) Only for PDF/X files (which is the default setting); 2) Never; 3) Always; and 4) Automatic. I would recommend changing this to Automatic, which examines the file to see if there's any content that needs overprint preview on to display correctly.
These settings are also available in Adobe Reader 9.
You cannot save the view with the file so that it always displays with overprint (since this might require that it make a change to the user's preferences if they aren't set up to display it).  But the overprints are there and ready to be displayed if the application is set up to display them.
Is this what you were looking for?

  • Unexpected results, when creating a pdf from Illustrator (cs3)

A customer has supplied a 'print ready' pdf, created in Illustrator [cs3]. The file contains grey text [20% black], but when they have printed to pdf [using acrobat 8], the breakdown of the 'grey' changes in colour to a cmyk value [45,36,35,1) instead of 0,0,0,20 as originally created in Illustrator.
I've replicated the customers error from scratch, and have found that, when you save [save-as] the file as a pdf [using acrobat 8 settings] and resulting pdf is correct = 20% black.
These errors where generated using a pc platform. We also tried to reproduce the error on our Mac's, but the Mac system didn't generate any issues.
Does anyone know why illustrator would produce [using the same native file] two different results when producing pdf's? We've check all colour management, etc. and still can't figure out why this is happening.

I have heard of this issue, but trying to remember is an issue by itself. lol. Seams to me there is an option for true blacks 0,0,0,? and cmy blacks ?,?,?,0. I am almost positive there are a few threads on this forum about this.

  • When I try to print from Illustrator CS3 the program unexpectedly quits. I don't get anything happening other than the spinning ball and the quit message.

Is this because the application is so outdated?

Thanks for your help Monika. Yes, the printer is is supported by the system. The printer is about 2 months old and the driver were installed then. I called Canon support and they said it sounded like a problem with Illustrator. I can print the same file by saving it as a pdf and printing from Acrobat Pro, so it seems to be a problem with Illustrator. If I try to print the pdf from Illustrator it will quit.

  • Can I upgrade from Illustrator CS3 to Cs5?

    Hi,
I have an older version CS3 pack education version; I am using illustrator and photoshop; my question is, can I upgrade illustrator and photoshop CS3 to CS5 or CS5.5 directly and skip the version CS4 in the middle?  Thanks.

Educational versions are not eligible for ANY upgrade. (Read the license) So, no.
If you had the commercial version you could skip CS4 and jump straight to CS5, yes.
Realize Adobe no longer sells anything prior to CS6, upgrade or otherwise.

  • Manage multiple versions(ID CS,CS2,CS3,CS4) of INDD files Indesign proxy for PC

    Dear scripters,
I have multiple version of ID installed in my system. I have ID CS,CS2,CS3 and CS4. While I am opening (double click) the ID CS file, automatically the file opening in CS4. For solving this problem I have searched in the forums I found there is a program called INDESIGN PROXY for MAC OSX. It manages the problems well.
Now I am in the process of developing the application same like that for windows using VB. Here is my observation about Indesign proxy.
    1. While user double clicks the Indesign file the argument is not passing to the Indesign.exe, but the argument passes to the Indesign proxy. Something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS4\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    to this
    "C:\Program Files\IDproxy\proxy.exe" "%1"
    2. The proxy exe lists all the version of IDs in a dialog box. If user selects CS2, the proxy exe passes the command argument something like this
    "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS2\InDesign.exe" "%1"
    3. Now the file will open in correct version.
I am comfort with VB forums and coding but I am struck getting the file path while user double click's the file. I short need to get the file path of "%1" argument.
    I think I am detailed.
Kindly advice me how can I proceed more?
    Thanks
    regards

    I don't think it's a mistake.
    "InDesign CS4 (3.0)"
means: this is the OM for InDesign 3.0 (i.e., InDesign CS) that is contained in InDesign CS4.
Wait -- do you mean there might be a difference between "the OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS4" and, say, "OM for InDesign 4.0 (i.e., InDesign CS2) that is contained in InDesign CS5" ?
Why on earth would anyone need that? I imagine it's not because even with versioning the 'older' scripts may not behave the same -- there must be dozens of mails about versioning not working ... I mean, if Adobe knows what causes older scripts to stop working (because, if I understand you correctly, they retroactively change it in the documentation for older versions), wouldn't it be yet easier to not cause those changes?

  • Adobe Illustrator CS3, CS4, CS5, CS6 and CC failed to install. Error 7.

    Hi,
About a year ago I've updated my OS to Mountain Lion (if I remember well) and Illustrator stopped working. So I've uninstalled it and tried to install it again but it didn't worked. The installation failed every time. I've tried every Illustrator from CS3 to CC but nothing worked. And I just gave up, but now I really really need the program and I'm not good at fixing things on my Macbook, so is there someone who can give me a hand?
PS. I'm getting an "error 7" when I try to install it.
    Thank you so much!

  • Print to PDF from illustrator CS3

CS3: In the Print dialog box, with Adobe PDF 8.0, I select the Printer Setup dialog box. Under the Layout pulldown menu I have PDF Options (settings) and Printer Features. Then select the print button to Save to File and name with the option to browse where you want the file.
    The Problem:
Since I installed CS4, the PDF Options is no longer available in CS3 and Save to File does not come up, can not rename and no option to direct file. The pdf file does show up on the desktop. This is happening on 2 machines. Both running Mac OS 10.4.11. One is Mac Pro Quad-Core Intel and the other a Power Mac G5 dual. I have CS2 loaded as well on each of these.
A third PowerMac G5 Dual which is using Adobe PDF 7.0 has the pdf options, renames and can direct, but the files get stopped in the Printer List (CS3). Starting Job again does not work. This happened also after installing CS4.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Zuc,
The problem is the lousy version CS4 that conflicts with the Lousy version CS3. I believe you have to uninstall Lousy version CS3 to make Lousy version CS4 work (or vise-versa).
But you are not alone, PC users have the same experience (they are using the same lousy software):
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b7e6db/0
So you have to choose which version is less harmful. Is sad that Adobe is not longer reliable with new technology. Please let me know when CS4 gets an update. Thank you!
