Saving AVI Brightness / Contrast Adjustments

Help !!!. I run lot of video clips of ultrasound images. I sometimes need to adjust contrast and brightness on the video clips to maximize image clarity. After adjusting the brightness and contrast with the AVI window option, I have tried to save the adjusted images. My problem is that the saved video does not reflect my adjustments. It is simply a duplicate of the video file before the adjustments. Can you offer advice ??
Quicktime Pro 7.0.2 / Powerbook G4 laptop/ ATI mobility Radeon 9700 graphics card / Mac OS 10 version 10.4.2.

Phillips, the color settings under QuickTime 6 can be saved with the original movie. Are you saying that you can't save the settings under QuickTime 7 or are you just unable to export the changes?
In any case, QuickTimeKirk is correct, you can use the QuickTime filters to apply contrast and brightness changes. Also, have you considered using iMovie to make the changes?

  • How do I save an edited movie with brightness, contrast adjustments

I am using Quicktime pro ver 7.6.4(518.35) and I love its editing features especially the rotation and brightness adjustment features. Is it possible to save a move with these edits so they will be view correct with the basic Quicktime player? I have a movie that I edited the contrast and brightness and resave it as its original MOV file. The new contrast and brightness setting show up when I play the video on the same computer that has my Quicktime pro on it. But, when I play it on another computer with the basic Quicktime player the movie reverts to the original Contrast and brightness. Am I doing something wrong? I even tried to export it to another format and lose the video portion of the movie.
I would hope that I could fully edit a movie save it and give it to my family so they can view it like it was edited. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Ok, after some searching, I found the export filter settings...
However, the exported video appearance does not match that of the source video with similar A/V settings.
Example 1 = Source video (.3g2) with A/V settings, recorded with screen capture software. *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezvE6sUeUb0*
Example 2 = Source video with similar export filter settings (brightness/contrast) *http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7tQYXWX17zQ*
When the video gets brighter, the brightness dims and when the video gets darker, the brightness increases... contrast settings seemed to be ignored.
All I can say is.. what the HECK?
It's pretty sad when I have to rely on screen capture software to get the desired result! Luckily the source video was taken with a cell phone, so there was no noticeable loss in video quality.

  • Flickering in clips when brightness/contrast adjustments applied

In CS3 I apply brightness and contrast changes to a clip.  When I view that clip in the preview monitor, and also when I view that clip after exporting to DVD on a television, there are intermittent random quick changes in the brightness.  Screen appears to flicker irregularly.  Any ideas as to why this is happening?  It does not seem to happen on every clip I make changes on, but it is enough of a problem to be distracting.  Thank you.

Dave, your responses are showing up blank.  Are you useing email to respond?  If so there must be a biug.
Im going to guess at you r problem based on the symptoms.  Im guessing you used the Auto Bightness/contrast filter.   The auto filter will do this because by dwfault it adjust every frame.  Ergo you will see starl adjustments being made frame by frame.   The fix is to increase the temporal smoothing parameter; that will cause the auto filter to look fwd and back in time and consider x frames before adjusting.  But this will increase render times.
The other solution is to use the manual ver of the filter and not let it auto adjust.

  • Image / Adjustments: Brightness/Contrast. Why is it crap now?

Ever since we got CS3, I have to hit the "Legacy" button in the Brightness/Contrast to get decent results. I just tried again WITHOUT using the Legacy button to enhance a scan a little. I brightened it up a few notches and then dragged the contrast bar and NOTHING happened. Whats that about? I hit the Legacy button and do my adjustments and it works as it should. Am I missing something?

What is "place" supposed to mean – open, place as Smart Object, …?
What are the image’s Color Mode and bit depth?
Could you please post a screenshot with the pertinent Panels visible?
Does Window > Adjustments not raise the Adjustments Panel?

  • BUG:  Saved Brightness/Contrast Actions Steps Interpreting "Use Legacy" Differently

Photoshop CS6 is interpreting saved Brightness/Contrast action steps differently than CS5.
The following two screen grabs were captured after double-clicking the exact same saved step in a saved action that removes banding noise.
Note that Photoshop CS5 has interpreted the step as having the [ ] Use Legacy value selected, while CS6 has not.
This could be at the root of why some folks are reporting actions compatibility issues.

Allowing this failure to remain in the release is going to mean I'm going to have customer issues with my commercial actions, many of which I have not had to change for 6 major version releases now.
    It needs to be addressed!
Other folks are getting acknowledgement and feedback from Adobe personnel, ''I have logged a bug'', etc. Could I please ask for the same courtesy?
I can supply you with an action you can use to test with if you'd like.  Matter of fact, here's one.  Run it on Photoshop CS5 and CS6 to see a major difference in results.

  • Brightness/Contrast issue

when I add the brightness/contrast filter to my footage and adjust it-the picture looks normal, until I render, in which case I get flickering multi-colored frames. I'm editing prores422HQ footage at 23.98fps. The timeline is set to the correct setting, and I've tried different render settings with no luck. Any help would be appreciated...

In support of Jim, (and I don't know what camera you are using when I say this). But pro gear, tends to record in a bigger colour space (higher colour resolution 4.2.2) therefore when adjusting (using FCP filters for example) there's greater latitude to tolerate the adjustments. In my early days of single chip, just a few minor tweaks in brightness contrast can have the image fall off really dramatically, so you do need to get the image right when you record it i.e. even a single chip will record a great image when lit well, but under-lit, it's very difficult to make adjustments using FCP filters.

  • Exposure vs. Levels vs. Brightness/Contrast Adjustment Layers?

I have some photos that are a bit underexposed and I'm trying to brighten them up a bit and I made a Levels adjustment layer and also experimented with the Exposure adjustment layer. Are these essentially doing the same thing OR are there reasons to have a Levels adjustment layer along with an exposure one and a Brightness/Contrast one?
    Thanks in advance.

The Exposure adjustment in Photoshop is primarily meant to correct tonal values of High Dynamic Range images, which are 32 bits. This command makes tonal adjustments using a linear color space or gamma instead of your image’s color space.  You can use it on 8 bit or 16 bit images too, but the adjustments may seem rather drastic.
When rescuing poorly exposed 8 bit or 16 bit images, I prefer Levels or Curves because you have greater control.  Brightness/Contrast, isn't something I use much.

  • Brightness/Contrast in CS6 - Best Method?

    Hi there,
Can anyone please tell me what is the best method for adjusting brightness and contrast in CS6? Is it by simply adjusting the Brightness/Contrast properties in an Adjustment Layer or is there a better way of going about it?
    Thanks!

The advice I have gotten is use it on an adjustment layer. It's "non-destructive", won't  permanently alter your picture and you can return to the picture  for further adjustments or delete the layer later on.
When using the brightness/contrast setting, try the Auto button first, and if you are not satisfied with that, set brightness to 100, contrast to 50 and adjust from there.
Leave the "Legacy" box unchecked. It mimics how the older versions of b/c use to behave, causing clipping.
Yes, there are better ways, like curves, but I'm assuming you want to work with b/c for now.

  • Photoshop Levels/Brightness & Contrast Problem (PS CS2)

When I try to apply Levels & or Brightness & Contrast settings to an image, it always seems to revert back to the way it was. The filters won't do anything it seems. I have Adobe Photoshop CS2. At home it did the same thing and I re-installed Photoshop only to find out it still did not work. Is there something I am forgetting to do? Your help will be much appreciated!!!
    Eric

View your image at 100% (Actual Pixels) when making adjustments.
(And I'm going to take a wild guess that you are working on a line drawing or scanned half-tone image.)

  • Brightness/contrast, normalization, etc.

Hi everybody, i just upgraded to Mavericks and now have the new iMovie. I hope this hasn't been covered elsewhere but i'm wasting A LOT of time trying to get productive again on this new iMovie version.
I can't find the brightness/contrast settings adjustments for the video and the normalization setting for the audio. Can anybody help?
Completely and totally frustrated with this thing.

The Enhance button improves both the video and audio quality of a clip with just one click, and you can also use the Adjustments Bar to make more detailed corrections. Visit the “Make manual color adjustments” and “Make automatic audio improvements” sections on the page below for more information:

  • Contrast adjustments reverted back to original

    Hi Guys
I just did a whole load of contrast adjustments on clips in my Color (FCS2) timeline, only to find that having done them, only a few of them remain changed! Any tips about how I might access autosave in Color please?
    Warm regards
    Peter

    Hi JP
    Thanks for replying.
Just using primary in room and basic light/dark contrast sliders that's all. No keyframes nothing else.
Yep had manually properly saved/archived at least once an hour throughout the entire day, but unfortunately al these have been corrupted.
Luckily the last manual save I did last night seems to have not been corrupted.
Hopefully it's just a random one-off bug in the software.
Exhausting though - have had to restart 10 hours of contrast adjustments from scratch now :o(
Had been doing contrast adjustments for 4 days prior without any problems.

  • Greyed Out Brightness/Contrast onThinkvision

I have a Lenovo LCD monitor connected to my E520 laptop. I decided against my better judgement to adjust the colour settings today and after setting the brightness up to 100% I no longer have access to the brightness control on my monitor. I've tried restarting, but the brightness/contrast button will not respond. Can anyone help?

Some additional info: the brightness button on the monitor no longer works. I can access the settings by double-clicking the screens enter button, but in that menu brightness settings are greyed out. The computer/Windows is not remembering my calibration settings. I adjusted the gamma and colours to compensate, but it forgets after a few cold starts. Several reinstalls of the drivers doesn't help, trying to update the drivers doesn't help. The brightness adjusts on my laptop, but not on the external monitor. The monitor is an L197 Wide, laptop an E520, Windows 7 sp1, all updates and patches applied. I also tried creating a new user account and switching the graphics, no luck there either.

  • Set default Settings for Brightness/Contrast Slider

I am in the throes of editing several hundred pictures. My camera has a standard tendency toward too bright and not enough contrast. While editing about a hundred pictures in Photoshop Elements 3.0 last night, the brightness/Contrast and Shadow highlight slider suddenly retained the last setting - which GREATLY enhanced my editing efficiency! Alas, today it is back to normal - the Brightness/Contrast slider default is 0 for it's associated sliders and the Shadow Highlight option is again at 50%/0/0 for the three associated sliders.
Is there a way to set a default value for the associated sliders for each of these?
(I had installed Photoshop Elements 5.0 on a trial basis up until yesterday and also have Photoshop Elements 4.0 installed, but it is such a hassle to use, I just gave up on it (and 5.0 has the same issue as 4.0 - no concurrent file browser when editing.))

Can't help you with Shadows/Highlights, but you do have an option with Brightness/Contrast. Instead of going to Enhance>Adjust Lighting>Brightness/Contrast, go to Layer>New Adjustment Layer>Brightness/Contrast instead. Once you've established the parameters you want for Brightness and Contrast, you can open up additional pictures and drag-and-drop the adjustment layer onto each new picture, retaining the settings from the first adjustment. This also allows you to quickly tweak the settings on the succeeding pictures, as adjustment layers can be readjusted ad infinitum.
If only Shadows/Highlights had an adjustment layer option...

It is not about payment of $19.95 (Igalsses) or $7.99(webcam settings). This is a very basic setting that should be available in the system settings. The automatic setting of the internal cam does not work great on low lighting as everyone is aware.
i am just amazed how users take in lying down and suggest solutions such as paying for a 3rd party paid app or improving the lighting in your room.
