  • Saving down from CS5 to CS4 cross-platform

Working on a PC, I am saving down from CS5 to CS4, exporting as an idml. The client is using CS4 on a MAC. When the file opens, the Master Page content is superimposing over the content of the page. Help!

Hi Bob and thank you for your help.
The answer to your question is yes. But now I have more information:
    - I opened the idml file on my PC and I see the same thing as my client who is using a MAC.
    - It occurred to me that my client created the original ind file himself (on a MAC) then sent it to me to work on.
    - BUT my client's ind file was a originally a Quark file converted to InDesign CS4.
    - I just completed another project for the client but I created it from scratch in CS5 then saved as an idml file so his MAC could read it. He had no problem with the idml file.

  • Saving back from CC17 to CS6 changes all complicated brushes into expanded objects.

saving back from CC17 to CS6 changes all complicated brushes into expanded objects. Also brushes vanished from brush pallet

    http://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/whats-new-17-0.html#Images%20in%20brushes
Since the Brushes were rewritten for CC, backsaving them (as well as other items) will cause them to be expanded. No way around it.

  • Help on saving back from CS4 to CS3 with the crop mark issue.

I am not asking how to create crop marks I needing to know how to save back from CS4 to has already has been created in 3. See issue below.
I am the only one with CS4 in this office. I have to save back to CS3 for everyone else to read. When looking in the artboard, I can see the un-editable crop marks that were made in CS3, but when I work on the file and save it down, they can no longer call up the crop marks. Any clue as to were they might access what should be there?

These work great, thank you so much!
So long as I only work on new stuff, I guess it doesn't matter if I switch to CS3.  :-)   I'll turn down requests for major edits to long documents already done in CS4!
We have 2 feet of snow on the ground here and are expecting 10-20 more inches of snow starting around noon!  DC is basically shut down.  I live right in the middle of the District, and the roads are a mess here.  I can't imagine how bad the suburbs are.
    Thanks again!

  • How can i save a book organized files from CS5 to CS4?

I have a problem – a client has catalogues in CS5 and their translations agency work in CS4.
Catalogues are book organised and everyone contains 30-40 files so opening each one saving as idml, opening in CS4, saving in CS4, adding to book and looking for problems takes really long time.
Is there any short cut to make this faster!?
    Thank you in advance.

Sorry, it'll be impossible for any of us (the forum regulars) to post in this thread without making obvious suggestions like this; it's safe to ignore these suggestions, I understand that you are powerless here to make reasonable suggestions like "Fire the incompetent translation firm that can't keep up with its clients and retain one that actually has the licenses for the apps necessary to complete the project."  If nothing else, all of the people who search Google for the phrase "translation downsave CS5 CS4 book" will learn that the best answer is "tell your translation supplier that they will lose your business if they fail to upgrade."
But in your case - no, I know of no such script to re-save a CS4 book from IDMLs spat out of CS5. The scripting forum is thataway; maybe they know of a script someone else has already written for this purpose. Mostly because, especically in a book file, one of the steps before saving the INDDs and book in CS4 should be "a human compares the IDML opened in CS4 against the INDDs in CS5, or PDFs generated from same, before Saving As CS4 INDD."

  • Saving down from CS5.5 to CS5

I previously had CS5 and recently upgraded to CS5.5 but a lot of my partners are still working in the CS5 version. Is it necessary to save down to CS5 from CS5.5?
Additionally, if I wanted to save down from CS5.5 to CS4 would i have to save down to CS5 and then from CS5 save down again to CS4?
    Thanks for your help!

What if i want to send a packaged file that has been saved down? Do i package the file in CS5.5 then export to IDML and save it down and then place
the IDML file in with the packaged file so that when someone in a lower version opens it they are still able to access all the links and fonts?

  • Down saving from CS5 to CS4 in a batch

    Hello!
I have a large volume of CS5 files to downsave to CS4 so they can be used on another machine. Is it possible to do this in a batch? I've tried a couple ways so far and I'm definitely doing something wrong as the new files still tell me they were generated in a new version of Illustrator. That, or the entire batch just saves over the same single file for the whole action.
If anyone could give me a simple walkthrough, that would be lovely!
    Thanks.

    That, and explain
.. as the new files still tell me they were generated in a new version of Illustrator ..
    (because they are).

  • Downsaving from CS5 to CS4

I'm sure this issue has been disscussed before, I couldn't find a post or anything that solves my problem. I have CS5 and recently used it to create a file to submit to a stock site, but the item was rejected because it did not work in cs4. The thing is, I tried to "downsave" the file to CS4, before submitting it, but as usually happens when I do this, it seems that what happens is that it does not in fact actually work properly, or at all in CS4. Everytime I try to downsave something to CS4, and I try openning it with someone elses copy of CS4, I find that the file says something along the lines of "unknown shading type occured", and all the transparent gradients in my file are different (still transparent, but no longer as smooth, or well positioned). In addition, the whole image is put into layers and layers of clipping masks, which makes the file virtually un-editable. In the case where multiple artboards are used, downsaving results in only one artboard being visable. I have also encountered various other errors when using this process before. What can I do to downsave my CS5 files to CS4 without severely damaging them? Any help you can provide me with would be much appriciated.
    -Melissa

Well, it appears based on what you are saying that my files would be useless without many hours and hours of work changing all of the gradients.
I know I should use CS4 to make them, but unfortunately everytime I try to install it, it has major errors and illustrator wont run.
    Graphicriver.net accepts CS4 files.
Anyway, when I they rejected my file, they said this in their email "It is  technically possible to make files backward compatible, but it involves  getting access to a CS4 / CS3 install and 'Saving it Down'. It appears  as though users cannot view a CS5 Illustrator AI file with anything  other than CS5 without installing additional compatibility plug-ins." They didn't go into any more detail than that, but it seems to imply that if one did have both versions installed, there would be some way to save a massive amount of time spent reworking these. Does anyone know if this is possible?

  • Batch conversion from CS5 to CS4

    Hi all,
is there a way to automatically convert CS5 Illustrator files to CS4 illustrator files using Illustrator CS5: I do not want to open them one by one and save them. Thanks

ok, sorry I found it on the help menu
Play an action on a batch of files
Saving files using the Batch command options always saves the files in the same format as the original files. To create a batch process that saves files in a new format, record the Save As or Save A Copy command, followed by the Close command, as part of your original action. Then choose None for the Destination when setting up the batch process.

  • Results are different when printing from CS5 and CS4

A file that printed fine with Photoshop CS 4 printed very dark when printed with CS5, with no changes made to the settings. Has anyone else had this problem?

RE: "You don't indicate what Xerox printers you have"
In my first post I named it, is that the information you need?
    Docucolor 3535 using Splash 3535
That's interesting, so I have to find a way to turn off the printer's Color Management function? I mailed them, hope they can tell me how to do it easily. They usually just tell me to not use any profiles and so on, but that's the general rule in this area, I'm really tired of hearing it. Everybody seems to think profiles and LAB mode are nuclear science and I should stay away from it.
Anyway, the test image I'm using is a simple photograph (size A3, 300dpi), so no transparencies at all. I'm placing this image into an equally large ID file and print it from ID, then export it to PDF-X/3 and print it from Acrobat. Hope that helps.

  • Save from CS5 to CS4

So at home, I am using Photoshop CS5 but at my school they are still using CS4. Is there any way for me to convert my cs5 files to cs4 so I can work with them while I'm at school as well?

Go to:   Edit > Preferences > File handling > Maximise Compatibility.
You should really read up on PS Preferences in Help. There will be other preference settings that can improve your Photoshop usage.

  • Saving to previous versions from CS5

Checked out the launch this morning and am definitely interested in stepping up to CS5 from CS3. However, I often need to exchange native files with vendors who I'm sure won't upgrade. Is it going to be possible to save or export back to CS3 from CS5 or will I need CS4 as a step in-between??

We won't go to CS5 if Adobe has decided not to do away with this workflow obstacle. The .inx system where a CS5 document has to be saved as an exchange document, which has to be opened in CS4 and saved as an exchange doc, which has to be opened in CS3 and saved as an exchange doc in order to open in CS2 is nuts. No reason to upgrade anyone if it means more of that.

I cant seem to get the hdr image to save back to aperture from CS5 . The save as box keeps coming up .

I am exporting 3 raw images to PS CS5 , merging in ps hdr pro ( mode 16 BIT , local adaptation ), then doing all the HDR adjustments. When adjustments are done in HDR PRO I click o.k. & it goes back to PS where I do more editing. When I try to save from here , I can not save back to aperture. I have to use save as & save to desk top & then drag bacxk in to aperture
