Saving / backing up iphoto albums.

We are using iphoto 08 and backup using time machine.
Our query is, if things were to go pear shaped, and we had to restore iphoto, would all our albums be still in tact and able to restore.
ie. we have 42,000 photos, with over 80 albums sorting out the photos. If we ever had to restore iphoto, i know we would get the photos back but how about the albums.
I know in itunes you can export playlists which is essentially what albums are in iphoto.
Can anyone advise if time machine backs up the albums or if we can save them somehow.
Many thanks

Yes, a restore of your library would keep everything intact. You can restore individual photos, which will be added to iPhoto in a new event, but a restore of the entire library restores everything.
Occasionally there can be an interruption while iPhoto is writing to it's database file, Library6.iPhoto, which can damage/corrupt that file. When that happens you may open iPhoto to an empty library. If you have a current backup copy of the database file it can be used to replace the damaged one and get you back to where you were before the problem. See the tip at the end of my signature for how to make and keep current a backup of that file.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Can't see iPhoto pics that are edited in PS and saved back to iPhoto

Photos that are edited in Photoshop and saved back into iPhoto don't show up in the iPhoto window. Only the originals show up. When I do a search, I see that they are saved in a "modified" folder inside iPhoto. How can I see them in the iPhoto window? I would like to "trash" some of them. Can I just drag them to the trash from the "modified" folder or will that foul up the iPhoto database?

    Maybe this will help:
Using Photoshop (or Photoshop Elements) as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop. When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file. You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements 9 the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.
In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
NOTE: If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and PS without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected PS as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". That will let you either edit in iPhoto (double click on the thumbnail) or in PS (Control-click on the thumbnail and seledt "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu). This way you get the best of both worlds.

  • Is there a cloud backup service that backs up iPhoto albums?

I know you can use cloud services to back up iPhoto but drop box only seems to back up your library into events.
I have spent hours making albums with sub folders and would like a cloud service that replicates this.

Nope - wrong on all points
You can not use any known cloud service to backup iPhoto.
You can not use DropBox to backup your iPhoto library
you can not have albums with sub folders
Any backup that can backup the iPhoto library sucessfully will backup up everything - photos, events, albums, projects, everything -  in a default (and very strongly recommended enviorment) the iPhtoo library is a self contained entity and has everything in it
You can make folders which contain albums or contain subfolders whcn can contain albums in iPhoto
For a backup you must have a local hard drive formatted aMac OS extended - and at least copy the iPhoto library intact to it - a better way is to run TImeMachine so you have hlurly backups available to go to if needed

  • Bring back the iPhoto album

Strange, I posted this question about 6 hours ago, but I can not find it in the forum.....
When I was on the road, I needed space on my hdd on the MBP. I transferred all big files to an other hdd.
Now back home, I deleted the video files and want to bring my iPhoto files back.
In order that iPhoto will read those files like before, in which directory will I need to copy all photos again?

    Hi,
To change the background and color in Office 2013, in any Office Application, we can go to FILE -> Options -> General -> Personalize your copy of Microsoft Office, select Office Theme -> OK.
It's true the fact is we only have White, Light Gray and Dark Gray in Office 2013, which is complained about by some of our customers. I feel really sorry if this has brought you any inconvenience. So far I haven't heard whether more colors will be added
to Office 2013, but please be assured that any improvements in the product are based on users' requirements. Our developers strive to capture Microsoft users' ideas and are working hard to create a more powerful and easy-to-use product.

  • How can I simplify or Automate saving Photoshop edits back to iPhoto

I am using Photoshop CS3 as my external editor for iPhoto. I am looking for a way to Automate saving the edited pictures back to iPhoto. Currently I use Command W, Click Save, in "Save As" window I change the format from Photoshop to JPEG, click Save, then click Replace, then click OK for my JPEG options window and my edited file is saved back into iPhoto. I know there must be an easier way to do this. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Have you set PS as an external editor?
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically.
What format are the original files?

  • I have saved a photo project as a pdf document. The album is no longer in iPhoto. Can I move the album back to iPhoto ?

How do I move a saved photo book project back into iPhoto. I saved my project as a pdf document before sending to Apple for publishing. Now it is not in iPhoto projects page. ??

sorry, no, you cannot import a pdf-file as a book project.
Have you hidden your books in iPhoto? What is your iPhoto version?
In iPhoto '11 you could try to hover with the mouse to the right of the "Projects" headline to reveal the Show/Hide button.

  • Saving pictures edited in Elements 6 back to iPhoto

  • Saving photos edited in PS Elements back  into iPhoto

I'm new to PS Elements and love it but am having trouble saving photos. I have set my preferences in iPhoto to open in PS elements for editing. So far that's great. My question is when I'm finished editing in PS Elements how do I save the edited photo back into iPhoto?? I'm sure there's an easy solution but beyond saving into PhotoLibrary in Finder then trying to find in within the many many folders and dragging into iPhoto - I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

    Jodeth,
That's great. Yup, it's those little things!
You can always do a "save as" and save to the desktop. This will not change the image within iPhoto which is sometimes a way to go if you don't want the image changed within iPhoto but want to use the edited image for something else.

  • Lost my iPhoto Albums (MY LIFE) How do I get them back?

Downloaded the latest OS X 10.9.4 Mavericks and lost my iPhoto Albums (MY LIFE) How do I get them back?

Can you explain in a little more detail.
Two things can and have happened that might help.
    1) iPhoto needs to be updated. Go to the App Store, Updates, and update iPhoto.
    2) You created a new account and logged into that. Log out, then see if your old account is there.

  • Saving edited images back to iPhoto

I'm having problems saving images in PSE back to iPhoto.
I have set up the preferences in iPhoto (11-for Mac) to use PSE 10 as the editting software.  I have also followed Barbara B's guidance on setting the file saving options in PSE10 to 'One first Save' - 'Save over current file'. - but once I have editted an image and I wish to save it (back to iPhoto) I am instead given the usual choices associated with a 'save as...' option.  To minimise effort, I then save the changed image to the Desktop and then drag it back to iPhoto.
I know this have been covered before I have read the solutions, but it seems that the changed image it not automatically being imported back to iPhoto.
Perhaps I have not set up the Preferences correctly - any suggestions?

If you start the process in iPhoto by hitting the edit button near bottom right, then any changes made in the external editor should update automatically after you save in Elements (Cmd+S) and close (Cmd+W)
The process is not always smooth with raw files but should work with jpegs.
Note, you cant use the editing tool in iPhoto once you set up Elements editor as the external editing app.
    See this Adobe tech note:

  • Restore saved photobook back to iphoto?

    Hi,
Please help. A while back I created a photobook of my holidays and saved it as a pdf file. Since then I must've deleted the photobook in iphoto (thinking "it's ok, I've got the pdf file") but I never actually ordered the book. Now I want to order it. How can I get the pdf book back into iphoto? It took some time to create so I'd rather not have to do it again.
    Thanks in advance.
    Lee

    Hi iLee,
You cannot get it back into iPhoto. Luckily you have the PDF so you can open it and use it as a reference when you build your new book.
There is an online site called SharedInk.com that allows you to upload a PDF for a book. check it out and do a search in these forums for SharedInk.com.

  • Saving edited shot back to iPhoto

    Hi everyone,
First time poster here, so hoping someone can help!
I just made the move to Photoshop, and for a whole load of reasons I want to continue to use iPhoto to organise my photos. At least until I get more proficient in PS. Importing shots into PS from iPhoto is totally fine, no problems there. But I'd ideally like to have the edited photo save back into the same iPhoto event the original photo's in.
Does anyone have a good workflow for this? Or a way of tweaking preferences in PS so that it happens automatically?
    Cheers!
    Simon

I just recently started trying to use my Photoshop CS3, after acquiring it 3 years ago, and never quite getting around to tackling it, since I was still using good old PS v.7.0. I finally made the leap. What a shock! The CreativeSuites version is entirely different from the old versions, and, so far, impossible for me to figure out. Most of the functions I was used to are drastically reconfigured from standard PS's. (I'm going to have to get a Users' Manual or take another class.)
One thing I DID figure out is the function you are questioning. Export a downloaded iPhoto shot - from your iPhoto - to the desktop; Open Photoshop and open the iPhoto shot (will be in the Preview mode) in Photoshop, save as a Photoshop tiff,  and do whatever editing, retouching, etc. in Photoshop. Save, and then from iPhoto, import - fom desktop - back into iPhoto Library.
If anyone know where i can get a comprehensive (beginners") manual on how to use the CreativeSuite version of Photoshop, please communicate! (After 3 years, I can't locate any manual that may have come with the software and there is no PDF version that I can find on line. I am completely mystified.)

  • 2 things: iPhoto isn't automatically copying all my imported photos into an iPhoto album folder AND ever since i upgraded my MacBook 120GB to Snow Leopard, iTunes won't recognize my iPhone.

So i have a 120GB MacBook that's about 4 years old (just updated to Snow Leopard--been working in Iraq, i'm a little behind).
Never had a problem with it.
I also have an iPhone 4 which i've had for about a year (up-to-date software as of about a month ago).
Never had a problem with it.
I've had iTunes for years of course (up-to-date).
    Never had a problem.
    1.
Now my iTunes won't recognize my iPhone since the Snow Leopard update.
iPhoto will recognize my phone, but iTunes won't.
Went through all the preferrences and i can't find anything that isn't set properly.
iTunes Helper is used during startup.
    Everything seems fine.
    Any help?
    2.
I use a WD external hard drive to back my Mac up every week or so.
I recently realized that half of my pictures from iPhoto are not copied to the external.
    They haven't been transfering over.
So i snooped through my folders and as it turns out, iPhoto hasn't been copying the pictures i import from my iPhone to iPhoto and saving them as .jpg files in the pictures folder (or iPhoto album or whatever) like i think it's supposed to.
My pictures folder has approx half of all my pictures in it, meaning at some point (probably 2 years ago) iPhoto stopped making the file copies of my imported pictures.
    I do not know why.
No idea how to fix it.
If i were able to fix that (with your help), would all the pictures that haven't been copied automatically copy to my pictures folder once i had the issue resolved or would there be a lot of dragging and dropping?
I've been clumsily and sloppily copying all my pictures to a new folder on my desktop and manually transferring that folder to a thumb drive (which i keep in my pocket) and my external (just so i have them in some form) in case my computer crashes or a mortar shell lands on my room and blows my computer up.
Can anyone please help me with any of this?
I can't just stoll down to the Apple store to ask the Genius Bar (I'm in Baghdad) and i don't have Apple Care so no one will help me on the phone when i call Apple.
    Thanks so much.

    hey mill1640,
Did you ever get your iPhone to register with iTunes? I just upgraded as well to Snow Leopard, and my my isn't recognized at all also.
If you did get this resolved, I would appreciate a little suggestion in the right direction.
    Many thanks,
    Josh
